Curves For Women Reviews (302)

Review: My name is [redacted] and I am currently a member at the Curves in [redacted] located at [redacted]. I've been a member since April 1st 2014. When I joined, I was excited to start my journey to a healthier me....looking forward to working out AND following the Curves Complete program for meal planning and coaching. However, I was faced with some personal circumstances that hindered me from the level of commitment I was planning. I have 5 children...ages 2,3,4,5 and 7. And my husband's work schedule was changed so that he worked 12 hour night shifts six days a week. Getting to Curves became nearly impossible as my stress level increased drastically. But my health IS very important to me. I only made it into curves 3-4 times a month, but I wanted more. That is why when I planned to have my first coaching session with [redacted] on July 11th, I was excited to tell her about the couch to 5K program I had started on the days I couldn't make it to Curves. And to show her a protein shake I had found and see what her opinion was. But when I stepped on that scale and had gained 20lbs over the last 4 months (I ALWAYS gain like crazy when I'm stressed so while disappointed I wasn't shocked) [redacted]'s reaction shocked and rattled me. I was ready to just recommit and start from the beginning. But as we sat down for "coaching" she proceeded to humiliate and berate me over my weight gain. She said "what happened" and I proceeded to tell her what was going on in my life. She proceeded to interrupt me telling me I was full of excuses. That I was messing up my children's lives because I could be a better mother if I weighed less. That obviously I didn't care about my family if I didn't get control. And this was all in front of another Curves member. I had expected "coaching" to be encouraging, not berating. If this was supposed to be "tough love", she should have seen immediately that it wasn't working. I calmly left. My husband asked how my workout was, so I told him what happened. He left a business meeting to stop in and talk with [redacted]. He told her that it was unprofessional, no one deserves to be humiliated like that and that we would like to terminate our membership. She told him that wasn't an option.I decided not to let this get the best of me so the following week I went in to work out. After all, I didn't do anything wrong, and if we are having to pay, I might as well work out when I can. [redacted] did not make eye contact with me or speak at all the entire workout..... it was quite awkward. Then I showed up Friday for my coaching session. She obviously had to talk to me, but it was extremely strained and uncomfortable. She has not once mentioned the incident or apologized, though it is obvious she feels uncomfortable around me. Today I called and asked to speak with [redacted], the owner. I really would like to terminate the membership. But [redacted] said there was no way I could talk to her until next week. This wasn't a rash decision, I tried to go anyway. But the truth is that it's so incredibly uncomfortable. I feel judged, humiliated and not the least bit encouraged. I would never recommend this gym at all. I would like my auto payment canceled.I know I'm more than a number on a scale. I do not dismiss the importance of health, and I am constantly working towards being fit. But this level of humiliation is toxic, and I believe the right thing for you to do would be to release me from the contract.Desired Settlement: This was identified on July 11th and has been an issue since then. I would like all fees refunded from then on and for the contract to be nullified. A detailed receipt showing all charges that were taken out and refunded since entering into a contract with this establishment is requested as well.

Review: Signed up for a 1 year membership. I advised owner by phone and by letter I would not renew at the end of the year membership.. She then charged my credit card with a $50 feel for ending the contract early. I did not. She received payment for the full year in May of 2014.

I tried to tell her that I did not end contract early. She said extra money due. I disagreed. by phone contact and by letter.

Please note that dates of contact in April of 2015 is not exact, but it was toward the end of April.Desired Settlement: Refund the credit card charge.... It is in dispute.with card company to avoid interest and late payment.
