4/2/2016: The club cancelled my already scheduled personal training session only hours before the scheduled time, because the trainer was no longer with themDid they not know the trainer quit the day before? 4/6/2016: I signed up for a year of personal training, but the club took extra month of training cost, because the first month was prorated per the clubThe club charged me $less than the full amount on the first month, because I signed the contract on the 3rd of May, not the 1st of the monthAs a result, I did not realize, but in fact, I signed up for months of training, not just months, which was a surprise to meSince the period of the training was up on the contract as of May after paying for the whole month of May, I wanted to make sure they stop automatic withdrawal from my credit card on June 1, The general manager of the club told me that I had to cancel the contract by calling a Billing companyWhen I called the billing company with the phone number supplied by the general manager of the club, I was told that the club manager is the only one who can cancel my contractI called the club manager and he refused to talk to me on the phoneWhen I asked to speak to the person the general manger is reporting to, he came on the phoneI told him what Laura at [redacted] billing told me, that he was the one who has to cancel my contract to stop the automatic withdrawal of monthly fee, then he said he would cancel my contract and charge me for May in advance that very dayI told him that that would be fine and just stop/cancel whatever is necessary to end this contract! He said that he would cancel my contract and send me an email confirmation within days or lessI also asked him for the name and contact information of the person he reports toHe gave me the name of the person and that person would be contacting me within a day or so4/9/2016: They re-schedule someone to train me the following week on 4/9/2016, but they cancelled again and informed me that the club no longer can provide training on Saturdays, which is only day of the week that I can train due to my work scheduleI went down to the club and there was someone who told me that they could schedule training sessions on Saturdays, though it has not happened yet4/13/2016: Still no email or call from the clubI went back to the club and asked the general manager to cancel the contract again and he said, he could not, because I can only cancel on the 1st day of the month, not before, for the next month of billingHe said, he could not absolutely cancel anything more than days in advance! I demanded he cancel my contract on the computer while I was standing and watching him do itHe said it would not workThen, later that day, the general manager told me that he had in fact cancelled my contract last week and had taken the money for the month of May in advanceThen, he told me that I have until the end of May to complete training sessionsWhen I signed up for a year of personal training, the club promised me once weekly training on SaturdaysThe club still owes me training sessions and I was told, I had to take them all by the end of MayI have a tentative training session scheduled for Monday, as I am in between jobs for the week of 4/18/and hopefully, I can work with the assigned trainer to schedule Saturday sessions for the remainder of the timeIt is the club that cancelled my Saturday training sessions, but I may lose a couple of sessions even though they are all paid for nowPeople I had to deal with at Fitness Connection located at Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC definitely have a flavor of con-artists and make it difficult for me to sign anything ever again

Their cancellation policy is ridiculousIn the contract, it says that you must send a letter to cancelI did not see anywhere that it stated that it HAS to be certifiedSeveral months later I received a letter from a collections agency that I owed them $This shocked me not only because it was months later, but also because they were willing to attempt to ruin a young adult's credit for a measly $The collections agencies usually take a hefty percentage of that anyways, so their "profit" would have been even lessAnyways, I called the collections agency to find out why I had this debt that I should not haveThey informed me that the letter should have been certifiedTherefore, I had to pay the debtI will never restore my membership here, and I will warn others from joining as well

Fitness Connection has been a terrible experience I was only a member for month and in that time frame came a great load of disappointments None of the staff seemed to every know what was going on Upon signing up, we were told there were bootcamp classes there three times a week when come to find out bootcamp is actually offered once a week at the location I was consistently misinformed by staff about policies and procedures clearly they knew nothing about including services offered, cancelation policy, and how to actually go about canceling your account I tried to cancel my policy within the days notice and was told I had to come in to cancel when in fact was informed by the billing company that I can cancel online Fit Connection then tried to bill me for another month because I was not within the day cancellation policy Trying to get this situation taken care of was an absolute nightmare I am a very patient and understanding person when it comes to these types of things The only other company I can't stand is [redacted] due to terrible customer service as well No one could even tell me who I needed to contact or give me a correct contact number It took me people and two days to get to the right one I emailed her and requested a call due to my concerns She emailed me and said I waived the fee and that was it Thank you for waving the unnecessary fee but how about some concern and gusto to fix the pieces of your company that I had a problem with in the first placeAbsolutely terrible experience!

From: [redacted] Sent: Tuesday, February... **, 2014 3:16 PMTo: drteamSubject: Business Response Case # [redacted] BBB Houston 1333 West Loop South, Ste 1200 Houston, TX 77027 RE: Case # [redacted] We are very sorry to hear that [redacted] disagrees with the policies/procedures of Fitness Connection, a private members only facility. When she became a member [redacted] agreed to provide a 30 day written notice which is required to discontinue the services that she purchased, and is clearly explained in the agreement that she signed on November **, 2013. The purpose of our membership agreement is to inform members of their obligation as well as provide information to them. [redacted] emphasizes several times “no contract” which is absolutely correct; in purchasing services from Fitness Connection our members are not obligated/locked in to a [redacted] **, etc. month contract. Our members can very simply give written notice at any time to discontinue the services they purchased. The 30 day notice is standard business practice which ensures any billing returns are received prior to termination as well as allowing all requests sent are processed in order of receipt. The only fee, in addition to the monthly service fees, found on [redacted] payment history is the Maintenance fee which is an annual fee and also explained on the membership agreement. The fee was billed to her account in April 2013 in the amount of $27.00 ($25.00 + tax), as it is not an “UNEXPECTED large fee” we are not certain if this is the fee that [redacted] is referring to in her complaint. This fee is an annual, not bi-annual fee and even has to be initialed during the enrollment process, therefore while she may not have remembered the fee she was informed at the time she joined. In reference to [redacted] displeasure with our guest policy; as a private members only facility we offer guest passes to local residents who are interested in trying out our facility prior to purchasing a membership with us. We also offer a per day guest fee to individuals who are not local residents and will not be joining our facility. If we were to allow all of our members the ability to bring in any guest at any time our facility would be much too crowded and our paying members would not have access to much of our equipment and/or amenities. We find nothing in our research indicating any violation by Fitness Connection to warrant a negative rating based on this case; however in the interest of customer service and under no legal obligation to do so we have terminated her account as of this date with no further billing obligation. Unfortunately we, nor any other business, are able to confirm or deny comments reported that we were not present for, therefore our research and report to the BBB must be based on the terms of the agreement (tangible evidence) that all of our members sign at the time they become a member of our facility. Fitness Connection has made every effort to resolve this consumers concern however no business can be held responsible for a consumers not wishing to follow the terms of the services that they purchased, therefore we respectfully request that any negative mark be removed and the case be closed as resolved. Respectfully, Fitness Connection

I joined the gym in March. I love the gym and the classes. But in June when I went for a class I was told my membership dues of $10 were not paid and I had to contact customer service to solve the problem. My credit card was showing that not only had the $10 been charged to my account, but they also charged me $64 five days prior. After leaving over 163 messages, customer service called me back. I explained my account was showing they had taken the money, as well a $64 charge. Long story short, it’s now October. I get charged $10 and $64 every month. I’ve sent in numerous statements by both email and certified mail to prove the fees are coming out of my account. They conveniently have never received them. I have not been able to go to the gym since May because they say my fees haven’t been paid since May. Ive tried to cancel my membership 29 times using the online form, and 7 times via certified mail. I’ve received email confirmation that my cancellation notice was received. And yet they still charge me and still claim they haven’t received it. I have mailed and emailed proof of the cancellation, and they don’t receive that either. The customer support staff is condescending and abusive. They know the company is fraudulent and they think it’s fun watching people suffer. I’ve submitted all of my recorded emails, phone calls, proof of mailing, proof of receipt, and statements to every news station in Nevada and Texas. As well as to the BBB and an attorney. This company is unethical and practices illegal and predatory billing practices. Furthermore, Fitness Connection is Golds Gym. They changed the name after they lost a class action lawsuit for predatory billing practices that they still practice today.

Revdex.com: This letter is to inform you that Fitness Connection has carried out to my satisfaction the resolution it proposed for my complaint, filed on 5/19/11:38:PM and assigned ID [redacted] Regards, [redacted]

Fitness Connection does apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, our records do not show a request for termination on Ms [redacted] ’s accountIf Ms [redacted] is able to provide proof that termination was sent we would be more than happy to correct any issueThe acceptable proof would be the certified letter tracking number or an email confirmation if done online At this time Fitness Connection respectfully ask that this case be closed as resolved

I am writing my first Revdex.com complaint due to an absolutely horrible experience I have had with this companyTo summarize: I was offered personal training sessions for freeUpon finishing them, my trainer asked me if I liked the experience and I politely told him I didHe then sat me down with his manager and told me to sign up for months of trainingHe didn't bother letting me read what was on the dotted line and made me sign, so I did and I take full responsibility for itAt first, my sessions were going well but I was struggling on my days I came in on my own because the environment was so over-crowded it was hard to get my workout inIn addition to that, the place started to get more and more hostileThere are a lot of big, meaty judgmental people who work thereI continued to do my training sessions and eventually found myself in a tight financial situationI asked the personal training manager to cancel my training and she told me she couldn't/wouldn't but she could put a freeze on itI opted into the temporary freeze, then went back to paying for it as regularly scheduledI understood I signed a contractFinally, I found out that the personal trainer I was going to stopped working there, so instead of going to someone new, I opted into paying without goingIt wasn't ideal, but I didn't want to work with any of the beefy, judgmental guys I mentioned beforeMy original trainer was my friend and I started to get anxiety just walking into the place every dayThat's no way to feel about a place that's supposed to help youA few months later, my grandmother who lives out of state was diagnosed with stage cancer and I was recruited to go take care of her as she took on chemo, radiology and surgeries to remove masses in her uterusI cancelled my Fitness Connection gym membership successfully, as I was on a month to month program and I was able toThen I inquired about cancelling my personal training once and for allI was told to submit two separate requests, which I didIt took the personal training representative weeks to get back to me before I had to call in and ask them to cancel itThat specific rep was not available to talk to me, but the man I spoke with promised to not only cancel my membership, but also refund me the amount I had already paid for the monthLater, the original personal training rep I spoke with told me there was nothing more I needed to do to cancel, but I would not be receiving a refundI responded, upset, but never heard backA few days later, I got an email from Fitness Connection advising me that they made a mistake and my membership had been reinstated because I had to have a membership for as long as I had a personal training account openI called them to let them know I had already successfully cancelled both and that it was unacceptable for them to just reinstate it due to "their mistake" and continue to take money from meThey told me there was nothing they could do to help meSo, I emailed the rep I had originally asked to cancel my account again and asked him what more I needed to doHe told me I needed to submit a proof of relocation (ie, a bill at my new address)I am moving temporarily to take care of my incredibly sick grandmotherI will not be paying bills there, and I will not be receiving mail there, as anyone in their right mind can understand! Is Fitness Connection so money hungry that they cannot exemplify basic human empathy? I expressed all of this to the personal training rep working with me and he has not responded or helped in any wayI work in customer serviceI understand that you have to be a good customer to receive good customer serviceI have been the best customer I possibly can beI have jumped through all the hoops asked of me and I am frustratedTruth be told, after this experience I will be sure to tell everyone I know in Nevada, in Texas and any other states Fitness Connection has locations that I HIGHLY recommend they seek out other gym optionsThey are money hungry, unapologetic and they will do everything in their power to squeeze every dime out of you, regardless of your personal situationThis is not a nice placeIt's not a nice experienceIt doesn't feel good to workout hereYou will be judged and you will be heckledI have never been the type to seek pity for my personal situation, but I do expect empathy when I am asking for helpI have explained my situation to over people and not one of them has made an effort to help me in my situationThey don't want to help you reach your fitness goalsThey don't want to help you feel good about yourselfYou're just a dollar signDO NOT GO TO THIS GYMI will be sure to tell everyone I know how poorly I've been treated
