Review: my daughter is a member of The Edge in [redacted], for her birthday in July, I purchased and have a receipt for 8 private classes ONLY !!! They continued to charge my credit card for August, September and October. I NEVER authorized recurring charges and they refuse to credit my account back for the FULL amount only half. I should NOT have to pay any more than what I agreed to in July! 8 classes ONLY !!Desired Settlement: immediate refund to my credit card for the FULL amount of the unauthorized charges

[redacted] signed up her daughter [redacted] and it was explained to her that this is a reoccurring service. [redacted] came to her appts

and mom continued to get billed. Since the original 8, [redacted] has worked with her trainer almost 20 more times. She got in touch with the management and they explained

everything. When they tried to call her again, she said she did not want to talk on the

phone. She had 15 sessions that were billed that were not used, she was coming

2xweek. We offered her to refund those unused sessions and she stopped

communication which was about a week ago. We can't refund sessions that were already paid to the trainer.

Review: I signed up for The Fitness Edge in [redacted], CT and visited that club and the one in [redacted], CT when I lived in [redacted], CT. I recently purchased a home in [redacted], CT and visited the [redacted], CT club expecting for the same amenities and level of service I received in the [redacted] and [redacted] locations. I am extremely unhappy with this club and do not wish to continue any type of membership and after speaking with customer service I was told it did not matter if I was happy or not, I was unable to cancel. After being a member of this club for several years, this is a terrible way to treat a customer who is unhappy.

Product_Or_Service: MembershipDesired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

I would like to cancel my membership. There is no way I wish to visit this club for the next 2 years and I should not have to pay for it. If the Fitness Edge expects members to pay for memberships even after they move than all club locations should be identical.

Business

This member has been notified and their membership has been cancelled.

Review: I was turned over to the collection agency on July 2,2013 for the amount of $263.23.I have given them a letter from my doctor stating that I am not able to exercise due to a disability. I had broken my pelvis last June and it is still very uncomfortable to exercise. I did not receive any letters or notifications from the Fitness Edge till I received a call from the collection agency. I contacted both corporate office and local branch yet they were non receptive to my issue.

on 7/11, [redacted] contacted the Edge corporate office and was taken care of immediately. She was emailed a confirmation that day.

Review: The edge fitness of [redacted] signed a contract with a minor my son with out parental or legal guardian consent/signature, he was 16 years old when they signed him. I went to club for assistance and was referred to [redacted] who handles contracts. His agreement number is [redacted] sent proof of age awaiting cancellation with no additional fees.Desired Settlement: Cancellation without further fees and hassles

Business

Response:

I have cancelled your son's membership immediately with nothing further due. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. As your son is a minor, the club or the company should have immediately cancelled his membership.

Sincerely,

Review: I quit the gym because of their billing practices and overcharging issues. After I finished out the contract, they owed me 5 sessions. I was told I would get refunded the money but now they are saying they won't do it even though I am finished with all training sessions and no longer want to be part of this gym.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive a refund for the extra sessions.

Business

Response:

The client claimed that she was promised a refund but we do not do refunds on personal training. We tried to correct the situation and get her with another trainer, however she declined that option. We are more than willing do offer her service for the sessions that she paid for and do what we can to make her happy

Consumer

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I already have a trainer and due to medical issues, it is not wise to see anyone else. I also do not trust these people as they have already tried to steal money from me twice before. If I reject the training sessions, they are essentially stealing the money they have already collected. Not only are their trainers not competent but they barely train and are not able to meet the client where they are. Getting my money back is the only thing I will accept at this point. I do not think it says in the contract you cannot get your money back. I have no desire to work this out with a gym who had tried to steal from me for the last three years.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

Nothing was stolen from the complainant, her contract was fulfilled with all of her signatures authorizing us to take the payments out of the account. The statements she keeps making about us "stealing" from her are not true.

Review: Every month my dues for my gym membership at the Edge Fitness are deducted from my checking account by a third party company [redacted]. If the transaction is declined the billing company charges an additional fee for the charge being declined. My dues are always charged to my account on the 21st of every month. I didn't have any money in the account yesterday so naturally the charge was declined. The billing company called me and I gave them a payment on a credit card. This all occurred on the same day the fee was due. The operator informed me that I was being charged an additional fee of $20 for an "Unsuccessful Charge." After disputing this with the rep, he agreed to waive it as a "One time courtesy." However this fee has been applied to my account several times in the past without any notification sent to me. My original contract states that if the membership fee is late more than 10 days THAN a fee could be applied.Desired Settlement: My first question is:Is this billing practice legal? Can they just charge someone additional money because the charge didn't go thru the first attempt? This isn't a matter of a returned check. If it is not, then do they owe money to everyone they have done this to in the past?If it is not legal, will something be done to stop future charges from being applied?CAN MY INFORMATION BE LEFT ANONYMOUS? I fear that the gym may cancel my membership in retaliation for my complaint.

Business

Response:

There was no late fee applied in this case. I have looked and [redacted] has not had a late fee.

The contract states that an additional service fee will be charged for any draft returned for insufficient funds or any other reason. So he did pay a service fee back in 2012.

Thank you.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I had to move out of state for work with a relatively short notice. I have been trying to cancel my personal training for the past couple of weeks and the customer service has been rather poor. I clearly cannot walk into a gym in person since I am longer in Connecticut. After dealing with more people than I should have, I was told someone would contact me and when I asked for a window of time to make sure I was available, the club rep. I spoke to was hesitant to provide one. I just tried calling the fitness club back, but the phone line isn't currently working. I've already been charged for an additional month of training that I won't be using because I'm out of the state. All I originally wanted to do was cancel the training, I could have dealt with paying the monthly membership fees until I returned to Connecticut in the summer of 2016, but now I want to cancel my relationship with the Edge all together.
I advise any working adult who travels for work to not bother with signing up for the Edge because I'm paying for a product I'm not using and they don't seem to care.

Review: It all first started when I cancelled my gym membership on November 2014, I had to send an email to cancel the membership, and so I did. By late February, I received a phone call that I was in collections for over $100, including the monthly gym membership fee, late fees, annual fee, overdraft fees, etc., you name it. When I went into the gym, early March, I spoke to Morgan, the gym manager, I paid my last responsible payment and per Morgan my account was closed, paid for, resolved, I didn’t owe any more money. I kept getting emails once every other month about being in collections; I figured it was an automated email, so I didn’t call. Today, December 16, 2015, when I got to work, I had, yet, another email about being in collections; I called the gym and spoke to the responsible person in charge of the email I received, Kailey F[redacted], sales manager, & I told her I received an email from her that I was in collections, I asked her what was the amount for and I let her speak. She stated I was in collections for $275.30 since January 15, 2015 through October 15, 215; that I could re-join the gym with $49 down & my old account would erase, or have a zero balance. She also stated that the last time they tried to contact me was in December, I asked; “December when?” She stated; “December 2014.” I said, “Last year??!!!” She stated yes. Then I proceeded to tell her that I had already paid my balance and I owed nothing, I took care of that. She “looked” into the notes in my account and stated, “Oh yes, it looks like you made your last responsible payment back in March, and you spoke to our old manager Morgan, she no longer works here.”

My frustration is the following: I took care of my balance, I’m NO longer in collections, I’m NOT supposed to be in collections, YET, I’m still receiving email AT WORK that I’m still in collections, when I call I still “have a balance”. So, not only is the gym trying to scam me out of paying a hoax amount of money because “I’m still in collections”, they still have my account open and are trying to withdraw money from my card, since I no longer have that card, it continues to bounce back & doesn’t get paid, thus incurring in extra fees at the gym. Not to mention its being reported to my credit, it’s affecting my credit score. I’ve been told plenty of times before, over and over again, that it has been taken care of, even Kailey stated, I took care of it, I removed you from our automated emails; Let me call BT!! I already spoke to Morgan prior her leaving the gym, & she said the same thing! I’m not removed from the emails, but my main concern is that even if I’m “removed” from the automated emails, I still fear that they’ll continue to have me in collections.

I want this problem resolved, once and for all! It’s been a year, & I’m still dealing with these people.

I want: 1. a billing adjustment showing a zero balance and a confirmation stating so in the form of a formal letter mailed and emailed; 2. contact by the business in the form of a formal letter stating no further communications/contact (email, phone, etc.) will be made by the business or any personnel from the business; 3. correction to my credit reporting; and 4. discontinuance of the "advertised" claim (no more email to re-join the gym).Desired Settlement: I believe the business is responsible for well managing the books & when someone pays off their past due balance, or the collection balance that it be honored and do not harass the clients or ask them to re-join the gym for $49 down and the old collection/balance. account would be resolved. Honor what is being asked for; in this case, honor my requests to leave me alone, and stop sending me emails about being in collections when I'm not, and REMOVE me from collections!

Business

Response:

I do apologize for the misunderstanding. Looking back I do see that my sales manager Morgan cleared [redacted]'s account from collections and collected the final payment. It should have been cancelled and removed from our system so there may have been confusion during the process. [redacted] will no longer receive emails or calls about her account from The Edge Fitness Clubs. I am personally making sure her account is cancelled and cleared of any debt. We will compose an official letter stating this and have it sent to [redacted].

Review: I had purchased private pilates sessions package of 10 in November of 2012, because of an injury in December of 2012 I have not been able to continue at that time. I contacted the club today and was told by [redacted]l, Manager at the Shelton location, that the session have expired and there is nothing they can do for me. I was never informed that the prepaid sessions would expired, nor did the purchase agreement state there was an expiration.Desired Settlement: Would like my credit for the unused session to be applied to session I would like to sign up for.

Business

Response:

We have resolved the issue with this member and she was allowed to use the credits at one of our locations. We have spoken to the customer and she was satisfied with the outcome of this matter.

Review: At the time I joined the edge club, I was told by the representative at the gym that I was not locked into the actual membership just the price for 12 months and that at any time I could give written 30 days notice to cancel my membership. I was not given the "agreement" to read, we verbally discussed it before I signed. When I wanted to cancel, I called and a representative told me she was unsure of why he told me that I could do that but advised me to send the letter in. I spend the time and money to write and mail a letter and am still being denied the ability to end my contract. The customer service and miscommunication between staff members is absolutely ridiculous.

Product_Or_Service: Gym membership

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Refund

I would like my membership to be terminated, I have mailed in my written 30 day notice (as I was told I could do by the man when I signed up and by the service rep on the phone) and would no longer like to be a member. I especially no longer wish to pay or be a part of a company that is so disorganized and lies to members.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2013/05/29) */

BUYER RIGHT TO CANCEL: If you wish to cancel this contract, you may cancel by mailing a written notice by certified or registered mail to the address specified below. The notice must say that you do not wish to be bound by this contract and must be delivered or mailed before midnight of the third business day after you sign this contract. After you cancel, the health club may request the return of all contracts, membership cards, and other documents as evidence of membership. The notice must be delivered or mailed to:

I understand that after 12 payments my membership rate will increase to $12.99 plus tax ($13.81 a month. My membership will continue for successive 30 day periods until written notice of termination of said agreement is received by ABC Financial services, Inc. I understand that I must give 30 days written notice prior to the charge date of the month I wish to discontinue. Writen notice must be mailed by certified mail to ABC Financial Services, Inc., PO Box 6800, Sherwood AR XXXXX

- The contract also clearly stated that this contract is for a minimum of 12 months.

- This is all very clearly stated in the contract that [redacted] agreed too.

Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2013/05/31) */

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

The contract I "agreed" to was never physically shown to me. The club representative verbally told me what the contract was and then asked me to sign an electronic pad. I very specifically asked if I was being locked into the actual membership for 12 months and he said that it was just the price I was being locked into but that at any time I could send a written 30 day notice to terminate. Now you are claiming it was very clearly stated to me, which is impossible considering I was told I could cancel with 30 day written notice by 2 people.

Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2013/06/19) */

The membership agreement that was signed clearly stated that the term is 12 months and that the membership could be cancelled with proof of movement 15 miles away from anyone of our locations. When someone signs up all of the terms of the contract are clear and stated and should be read before agreed upon.

Review: I had joined Fitness Edge while out of work but since working again, and commuting long distance, I wanted to cancel my membership. Fitness Edge and their biller, [redacted] Financial, make it extremely difficult to do so and now, many months later after several phone calls and even going in to the gym to cancel, I am still being charged.

Additionally, I am being double charged: $21.26 by [redacted] Financial (###-###-####) on the last day of the month, and $21.27 Club Charge (###-###-####) on the first day of the month.

When I have called to get the dupe payment cancelled and reimbursed, they have repeatedly denied they are charging me twice.

It surely cannot be legal, or bordering on legality, to make it impossible for your clients to cancel their membership, and to double bill them. I have become so frustrated in dealing with them that I am now resorting to Revdex.com and am heartened (and disheartened) to see there are many such complaints.Desired Settlement: I would like to have Fitness Edge cancel all my monthly payments to them going forward as I no longer use their service, nor do I wish to use their services ever again.

Also, ideally, I would like to be reimbursed from May 3 through Jan 1, 2015 for duplicate payments for the same service. That is 9 x 21.27 = $191.43.

Thank you

Review: I signed a one year agreement with Edge Fitness over five years ago. In March of this year, the credit card that I had on file with them expired so I stopped using their facilities and requested that my membership be cancelled. Today October 13, 2015 I received a call from a collections agency on behalf of Edge Fitness saying that I owe them in excess of $300. I have never received a bill in the mail. Since I do not have a contract with Edge Fitness I do not owe them for the time period when I am not using their facilities. am hoping that the Revdex.com will help me resolve this situation.Desired Settlement: I would like this unfounded debt to be cancelled and to receive no further contact from this business or its partners.

Business

Response:

After researching this complaint, it looks like he never actually tried to cancel until the account went delinquent. At the time he tried to cancel, he was still past due which is why it went to collections. To retain good customer relations, I will have him removed from collections.

Review: Fitness Edge uses deceptive sales practices. I signed up for 4 training sessions when the club was advertising a special deal of $179.99. In signing me up for that, they failed to accuurately explain that they will be billing me every month if I did not cancel. I did inform the trainer that I was no longer interested after 3 sessions, but when I received my credit card statement they have billed me a second time, now for $223.00! When I complained an asked for a credit they refused. This place is a rip off business. Just try to cancel your membership with them. You can only do it on a website through a third party billing company. This company needs to be investigated for it's practices, their personnel need to be trained to explain thier programs etc.Desired Settlement: I want a credit on my credit card for the $223.00 for the sessions that I never intended to purchase. I am in the process of canceling my entire family's memberships.

Business

Response:

[redacted]

I have already notfied [redacted] Financial of the cancellation of 3 memberships. An accomodation would have been nice as we all would have retained our memberships. To stand so hard an fast on a regular member shows a lack of customer care. So instead of crediting me for my mistake, your club just lost the membership fees for 3 individuals. Which would add up to over $1000.00 in membership fees to your club. Not a smart business move on your part.

The agreement I made was never properly explained as I only wanted to sign up for your initial promotion of 4 session for $179.99. I actually told my trainer [redacted] that I was unable to finish due to my doctor's advise based upon an injury. Yet you kept on billing me. **

In a message dated 3/31/2014 12:31:54 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [redacted] writes:

Hi [redacted]

I received your email to my aol account.

As all personal training sales are final, I’d be happy to apply the monies you did pay towards PT towards membership or another service in the club. We would like to come to a mutual agreement as we wouldn’t want to see you cancel your membership.

Best,

Review: On 10/19/2015, the edge took two automatic drafts of $73.29 from my account for my bill. They were only due a single payment of $73.29. I contacted them and advise of them of their error. The first contact 10/19/2015, again on 10/20 and I was advised that I could come in on 10/21 and receive cash . When I arrived at the gym to receive my money, they indicated that it was already in process and they could give me cash. I then asked when will I have my money back in my account. Initially I was told that it would only take 2-6 business days and the person discussing the issue said that he would leave the information for the manager to call me back. Once the 6 days were up and I didn't have my money back, I called again and they said 2-10 business days. Once again, I check my account and the money is not there. Manager, Steve has not yet called. I called back on the 11th day, which is today 10/30 and a message was being left for Steve to call. He hasn't called. When I contact him again, I'm told that he is in a meeting and that I wouldn't be able to speak to him. I communicated that I'm a student and need my money put back into my account. It seems as though these people are giving me the run around for a mistake that they made in taking too much money. I'm beginning to wonder if it was a mistake at all. Looking at other complaints, billing issues are on top of the list for this business.Desired Settlement: I want my money back in my account immediately.

Business

Response:

The Edge Fitness Clubs has refunded Will $73.29 and apologizes for any inconvenience.

Review: I began attending The Edge in June of 2013. During the winter months, I was noticing an increased number of members and by the spring of 2014 I was unable to access equipment during my typical workout hours. I found this situation worsened and I was without any access to equipment at all during my available workout period. In May 2014, I confronted the management regarding my situation. They replied that my contract was not to expire until 12 months from the day I complained. Both the manager and the billing company replied that they did not possess the authority to cancel my subscription. I have since found alternate means for my work out rather than go to this establishment that could not accommodate my needs. They continue to deduct the monthly fee from my account. I requested a cancellation and a refund for months of membership from May to July. I feel this is reasonable since, upon my signing, there was ample access to equipment yet this changed soon after I signed a two-year contract. I simply am not getting the service that I signed up for!Desired Settlement: I am requesting a refund of $100 and the contract to be voided

Business

Response:

The gym in Hamden is over 35,000 square feel. It is large with lots of equipment. This is the first I have ever heard this complaint.

But at this time, I will cancel his membership with nothing further due as he is at the end of the terms of his agreement.

Consumer

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: Although in the response, the edge offered to cancel my membership, I was still charged on august 13th and have not yet canceled my membership. I would like to clarify what my complaint is. It is not that the gym is to small, the gym is very large but the amount of members allowed to sign up and flood the gym everyday is unexceptable. It is a very different experience than what I agreed to when signing up to the gym over a year ago.

Sincerely,

Business

Response:

We cancelled [redacted] while he was still within the terms of his agreement. As the request to cancel came after the bill date, there will be no refund.

Review: My wife and I joined the fitness center at the end of August, 2012, at a cost of about $21.50 each per month plus some other charges. This was at my wife's request (I already belonged to another gym, which I prefer). Unfortunately, shortly after joining, my wife developed serious balance problems together with severe hearing problems and we never used Edge once.Once we determined that she was not likely to improve significantly, I attempted to terminate the membership and was told: (1) the place that sold us the membership did not deal with termination, (2) something called ABC Financial should be contacted. Upon contacting them by phone, I was told that I was stuck for a year--until Sept. 30, 2013 unless I could produce a doctor's letter, on the doctor's letterhead with a phone number and an address certifying that my wife was permanently disabled. Without that certification, I would be required to continue to pay $42.50 per month for the next 5 months (more than $200). My complaint is twofold: (1) I was never told that I was stuck for a year. Had I been told, I would not have joined (Neither,I think, would anyone else). After all, they charged us a fee for joining in addition to the monthly fee. (2) The requirement is a virtual impossibility and totally unreasonable. I can't expect a doctor to write such a letter (without charging me, in any event) and Edge and ABC know that. The place stinks.

Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

l. I would like for them to terminate my and my wife's membership immediately, 2. I would like for them to change the requirement that members are stuck for a year or, alternatively, they should specify that requirement in bold, distinct lettering in their contract.

I will need[redacted] wife's name so that I may research her account. In looking at[redacted] account, I do show by authorization of his signature in 2 seperate areas that he realizes that this is a 12 month agreement.

Review: Although I stated the complaint type as "Billing or Collection Issues". I believe multiple issue types apply in this case.I have not used the gym for over a year because of the uncomfortable atmosphere and I thought my membership had been canceled and/or expired. When I realized it was not, I tried to cancel and was told I need to notify them in writing 30 days in advance and pay any membership fees during that month. When I provided them the notice in writing, they raised the rate for that thirty days and also added a cancellation fee which they advertized that they would not do at the time I signed up.Please assist.Desired Settlement: and immediate cancellation of service and waiving of all fees.

Business

Response:

We do not assess cancellation charges on members like [redacted] who is out of contract. [redacted] can cancel at any time, with 30 day notice. ABC Financial, the third party billing company, explained the charges in several emails to [redacted]. His account was past due and they were trying to collect the past due charges, and the dues within the 30 days and then cancel his membership.

At this time, I have cancelled [redacted]'s membership with nothing further due.

Consumer

On September 3, [redacted] called [redacted]. They explained he needed to send an email to client services to cancel his membership. His agreement is open ended and noone has told him he needs to pay for 2 more years. The conversation is documented. He sent his email and his membership is already cancelled. There is no issue here.
