Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: As I told GAF, when we had the roof repaired the roofer threw out the damaged shingles because at that time we did not know this was going to be a class action lawsuit I sent photos of the replaced shingles on the roof and that should be more than enough proof that we had to replace the defective materials Why would I have saved the defective shingles Regards, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:the shingles failed to stick Regards, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: a foreign object did not strike the roofThere is no evidence to support your theoryThere are no foreign objects in the roof and no objects in atticAlso, you make no reference to the leak at the back of the house that the inspector was aware of because I brought it up but decided not to inspect itThere is a 3rd leak that I've reported as well You have to support your product and cover my roof under the expensive warranty that I paid forAnother option is to completely refund $3,for the warranty that you're choosing not to honorThis is the difference in price between the quotes obtained with and without the Golden Pledge WarrantyI'd rather have this settled with the full refund paid for the warranty that you're not honoring so that I can have my roof repaired and not have to deal with you anymore

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Yes I was denied an email address to send photos on separate times months agoNow they have an email address I will send the photos to the email address It clearly shows that it takes a complaint to the Revdex.com to get this company to be reasonable The company just wants to make it hard for consumers so they don't have to pay legitimate claims The company is in violation of the terms of the settlement agreement and asks for unreasonable acts froms the consumer Note: The company, by its email to the Revdex.com has already forseen without looking at the digital photos that I will be moving on to the mediator They want to make it as difficult as possible to put in a warranty claim Regards, [redacted]

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response If you wish, you may update it before sending it.] Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that even though they have reopened the claim that we tried to submit last year, we have yet to come to an agreement with the business The ten days you have given to either accept for decline the business's response is not enough time because we don't know at this point whether the complaint will be settled or not If the business continues to work with us regarding this complaint to get the issue settled I will be more than willing to update my complaint in the near future to indicate that the complaint is settled and whether the outcome is positive or not Regards, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: GAF does not stand behind their warranty on year shinglesIt was determined that the shingles still had 73% warranty left and we were only offered 1/of the cost to replace shingles on the original roofWe built a porch on our home and PURCHASED the needed shingles from the home store where we redeemed our voucher from GAF for the replacement shinglesSo, we have a bigger area to replace now and GAF doesn't feel its good customer service to offer the full 73% of the warrantyGAF has google-mapped our home and is trying to tell us that we're trying to get shingles for our garage and storage buildingThose buildings have [redacted] shingles on themWhy would we put substandard shingles on two more structures? Who has the time and money to replace a roof every years? In our opinion, GAF's warranty is as worthless as their products AND customer service Regards, [redacted]

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID [redacted] Claimant filed a claim with GAF in October, GAF requested additional information in order to fully investigate the claim, specifically, photographs and samples of the affected shingles This requirement is expressly set forth in the Limited Warranty on GAF Materials Corporation Fiberglass Asphalt Shingles in effect in when the subject shingles were installed This practice is standard in the roofing industry, and the reason for the requirement is two-fold GAF must identify the product at issue and confirm that it is, in fact, a GAF product Additionally, GAF must examine the shingles to determine whether the shingles suffer from a manufacturing defect Without the shingles, GAF cannot conduct a thorough investigation, nor determine whether the product in question has failed to perform as intended due to a manufacturing defect Claimant suggests that her roofer's statements concerning the condition of the shingles should be sufficient Please understand that many factors can reduce the useful life of roofing shingles The quality of the installation, construction details of the house (such as proper ventilation and decking materials), weather conditions, etccan all adversely affect the performance of roofing shingles Claimant has not provided any evidence to support a claim for defective manufacture As a result, no relief can be provided

[redacted] contacted GAF and reported a roof leak We received photographs of [redacted] roof and they illustrated severe ice and snow buildup on the roof [redacted] , [redacted] , and GAF recommend the installation of an ice and water barrier; such as GAF WeatherWatch and Stormguard, which is installed at the eave and should extend at least inches past the warm side of the exterior wall to prevent leaking within the house It will not prevent leaking into the house if the ice buildup rises above the leak barrier, which may occur with severe weather conditions Ice Daming is the result of ice buildup at the edge of the roof caused by extraordinary winter weather conditions, “Acts of God” and is not due to a manufacturing defect A combination of problems cause ice dams to form When the heat from inside the building rises through the roof and melts the snow and the outside temperatures turn the melted snow to ice When the outside temperature rises to 32° F, the snow starts to melt and when the temperature drops it turns to ice When either of these conditions occur, the ice will slide down the roof and form at the eave causing a backup Ice buildup at the eaves creates a dam that continually builds and backs water up the roof, which can cause damage to the roofing system and leaking into the interior To avoid the buildup of snow and ice, homeowners should remove the ice buildup from the gutters and the roof edge carefully to avoid damage to the gutters and roofing system and to contact a local contractor to carefully remove the snow from the roofing system to avoid additional ice buildupKeeping the gutters and roof edges free from ice is strongly recommended As this is the result of severe weather conditions and not an issue with the product, we have no basis for a claim

This is being written in response to BBB Complaint ID # [redacted] . The claimant is disputing this matter because they are not satisfied with the dollar amount in the offer of settlement. That dollar amount was calculated based on the terms and conditions of the applicable... warranty. Claimant is seeking compensation that is above and beyond the warranty terms. As we have fulfilled our obligations under the written warranty, no additional relief can be added to the existing offer of settlement.

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: complaint [redacted] Immediately after my original complaint was filed with Revdex.com, I was contacted by GAF's representative promising to fix the roof leakageAs usual, I have not heard anything further from anyone since (probably because Revdex.com complaint was dropped) After all this delay, I just received a letter from GAF indicating that the leakage is not due to the shingles or the roofing system and are not covered under the "Golden Pledge" warranty which I purchase I am very confident that the GAF's argument is completely wrong and misleading My old roof did not leak for over years prior to replacing it with GAFIt has been leaking ever since the replacement of entire roof with GAFAlthough GAF would like to blame the leak to poor design of my roof, the roof was just fine prior to their workOnly reason we replaced the roof was for the cosmetic reason I would like to re-open my complain and prevent any other other consumers from unprofessional and unethical company like GAF Regards, [redacted] ***

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response If you wish, you may update it before sending it.] Revdex.com:I realize we have to accept or not accept the decision on this matterWe are not happy to accept the decison GAF and their requirements considering the state in which we live and knowing it is impossible to remove shingles in the dead of winter after purposely dragging this out for months with request after request wanting more information, more picturesWe will rely on the Attorney General to make the next decisonThank you for your help I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me Regards, [redacted]

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted] In the complaint, claimant states that GAF is responsible for the workmanship on the shingle installation, which took place in August In her complaint, claimant states that GAF is obligated to provide Workmanship Coverage under the GAF Golden Pledge Limited WarrantyIt is true that the GAF Golden Pledge Limited Warranty does have a provision for Workmanship That said, the claimant does not have a Golden Pledge Limited Warranty In fact, the claimant has not paid the roofer, in full, for the work performed and is withholding $(Eight Thousand Dollars)As a result, the roofer is under no obligation to register the Golden Pledge Warranty with GAF The Golden Pledge Warranty (copy attached) expressly states, under the “Effectiveness” clause – “This limited warranty will not take effect unless all eligibility requirements have been satisfied, this warranty is registered to you, and your roofing contractor has been paid in full.” In this situation, the warranty has not been registered, GAF has not been paid the Registration Fee and the roofer, who is under no obligation to register the warranty, has not been paid in full There is no Golden Pledge Warranty in effect and claimant does not have Workmanship Coverage under the warranty The Claimant has a standard GAF Shingle and Accessory Warranty, which expressly excludes Workmanship Any Workmanship coverage would have to come directly from the installing rooferClaimant also alleges that GAF is refusing to honor our verbal commitment to supervise the repair work GAF did offer, as a matter of Customer Goodwill, to supervise any repair work performed by the installing contractor After extending that offer to the claimant, the claimant stated that they no longer wanted the roofer to perform the repairsBy that point, GAF had already dispatched an inspector to perform a detailed, roof-top inspection We have provided the content from that report to the claimant The report lists both homeowner responsibility and roofer responsibility items in need of repair The homeowner and roofer must now reach an accord as to the scope of work for repairs and provide GAF with a plan of action and the scheduled date for the repair work We are still willing to supervise the repair work, but can only do so if the homeowner and roofer come to an agreement regarding what work needs to be done, reach an accord regarding unpaid monies and schedule a date for the repairsWhen that is done, GAF will provide assistance in the form of supervision and a post-installation inspectionTo summarize – Claimant does not have a GAF Golden Pledge Limited Warranty GAF is not responsible for any Workmanship defects The manufacturer’s warranty is for defective product only The contractor has expressed their willingness to cooperate and perform all necessary repairs The homeowner rejected that approach and stated that they did not want the roofer on their property Further to that, claimant did not want GAF to conduct any dialogue with the roofer again regarding this situation Despite those impediments, GAF dispatched an inspector to the site and identified all areas of concern We then shared those findings with the homeowner This was all done in an effort to get the homeowner and roofer moving in a direction that would bring about a mutually satisfactory conclusion That said, if the homeowner and roofer reach an agreement on how to proceed, GAF will gladly assist both parties If they cannot reach an accord, GAF can offer no further assistance with this dispute

This is being written in response to claimant's rejection of GAF's initial reply to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted] In the response, claimant states that the GAF Brand Name and shingle style are listed on the roofer's invoice That is not the case Claimant states that they had GAF Woodline shingles on their roofThere is no reference to GAF (brand name) or Woodline (shingle name) on the invoice we received from the claimant The "original GAF Warranty" that is referenced is, in fact, a registration card that is completed by the homeowner and/or contractor Regarding the weather conditions - we ran a weather report for the claimant's addressThere were a number of "damaging weather" incidents listed for that location during the years the GAF shingles were installed on the roof The top were listed on our report, including two in 2012, when the claimant made repairs to their roof The first event, in March 2012, had hail stones measuring 2" (larger than golf balls) The second event took place on July 23, The repair invoice submitted by the claimant is dated July 31, (days after the damaging weather event involving hail) As stated in our initial response, many factors can reduce the useful life of a roofing shingle Notwithstanding any of the above, even if GAF were to concede the possibility that GAF shingles were purchased and installed on claimant's home, there is no evidence to support a claim for defective manufacture under the GAF Limited Warranty The photographs submitted, which have been reviewed by our Quality Assurance personnel, exhibit no identifiable manufacturing defects No samples of the affected product have been made available for review and/or testing We do not have any evidence to support a claim While it is regrettable that the claimant disagrees with our disposition of their claim, GAF is abiding by the terms and conditions of the Limited Warranty If the claimant can produce any evidence to support a claim under the warranty, GAF will gladly review it Unfortunately, due to the absence of evidence, GAF cannot provide relief, under the warranty, for this claim

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because I have clear proof that the shingles were GAF shingles1) Roofer's invoice that specifies the brand name and style of the shingles2) The original GAF warranty; they have copies with my husband's signature in placesWould we have a Warranty for their product if the shingles weren't made by them? 3.) Due to mold under the old shingles, new pieces of decking had to be installed by new roofer4) GAF states that various conditions can affect the wear of the shinglesI sent them a copy of a housing inspector's report re the roof:: CONSTRUCTION a) Design: Gable; Flashings: Drip-edge, Wall, Chimney, Vent pipe; (c) Covering: Asphalt composition shingles; (d) Age (estimated): Newer 4-yrs; (e) Life Expectancy: 18-yrs5) INSULATION and VENTILATION SYSTEM---attic entered (a) Insulation: Fiberglass, loose; approximate depth, 10+ in., 7-in.; (b) Attic fan, Whole-house fan, Soffit Vents, Gable Vents; (c) OTHER ENERGY CONSERVATION: Duct insulation, Fiberglass Batts in crawl space; STRUCTURE: a) Foundation, Block; (b) Exterior Walls, Wood, Frame; (c) Roof Framing: Conventional, Trusses Engineered, Sheathing; (d) BEAMS and GIRDERS: Wood Beams; ((e) COLUMNS, PIERS and POSTS: Masonry; (f) FLOORS: Sub-flooring, Conventional Wood Floor Framing; 5) North Carolina has moderate weather year-round, and Cary, Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding cities are in the middle of the State and don't get the Hurricanes and heavy rains associated with the severe storms that plague the East Coast and Outer Banks of North Carolina Regards, [redacted] ***

GAF's policies regarding warranty transfers are clearly outlined in our warranties The reference to the bundle wrappers was made to illustrate the fact that we try to provide high visibility of the warranty terms and conditions by printing them on the bundle wrappers Unfortunately, in this case, we were notified too late (when the claimant was attempting to file a claim under the warranty) We're sorry for the inconvenience, but our initial decision still stands

Complaint [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: As GAF advertises [redacted] on their website as a "GAF Master Elite Contractor" they are wholly responsible for the content of their site as well as the contractors that they certify as able to install their roofing materials as well as provide these "enhanced" warrantiesI contacted [redacted] via email through the GAF website and was thereby called by [redacted] through that contact email [redacted] also uses the "GAF Master Elite Contractor" logo on their contractsAdditionally, GAF makes claims on advertisements such as [redacted] (May 2014) that "Choosing a GAF Master Elite roofing contractor is your assurance that you'll be dealing with a quality, reputable, and dependable professional contractor - not some "fly-by-nighter""This statement is as [redacted] tried to gain additional monies from me in violation of my contract between them and did not correctly complete the roofing jobThe contractors I have had out in the past month to look at my roof have all pointed out the issues with installation of the roofing shingles and flashing and are all aware of [redacted] and it's president/owner, Brian Sliva, and the shoddy work he doesThey have had calls by multiple customers to repair issues caused by Roof RestorationsMaybe that is why there are complaints against [redacted] on the Western PA Revdex.com site, countless reviews I have found online of [redacted] doing poor work and in some cases taking deposits for work they never ended up doing, as well as several magisterial court fillings against [redacted] in the state of [redacted] all of which I can provide to the GAF corporationI have filed a complaint with the [redacted] ** Revdex.com against [redacted] and did not receive a response from [redacted] to my complaint Keep in mind, I am not simply asking for an "enhanced" warrantyI am demanding that my roof be properly repaired and installed per codeI could care less about the different levels of warranties offered by GAF as I now know the corporation is unwilling to back it's warranty claims or solve conflicts cause by the contractors they back and advertiseThe only proper resolution to this issue is to have GAF properly repair my roof and stop the leaking As a consumer, I am more than willing to pass the word on that hiring a GAF Master Elite Contractor is essentially worthless and there is no enhancement to this product over having any other roofer with great ratings from customers, installing another manufacturer's roofing products Without resolution on repairing my roof, I will be filing additional complaints with the [redacted] Attorney General's office Bureau of Consumer Protection as well as a federal complaint in violation of the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act Again, I am asking for my roof to be properly installed and repaired as resolution to my complaintPlease arrange through the Revdex.com to have this matter resolved Regards, [redacted] ***

This response pertains to Revdex.com Case # [redacted] Consumer is requesting that GAF waive certain claim submittal requirements Consumer requests that we settle the claim based on the information provided GAF is seeking additional information from the claimant in order to properly evaluate the claim During the claim intake process, the claimant’s representative stated that the shingles were brittle or “crunchy” The claim was opened and the claim procedures for brittle material were followed Upon receipt of the shingle samples, GAF discovered that the claimant was an eligible class member under the [redacted] e Class Action parameters As a result of this discovery, the claim process and corresponding requirements had to be modified to meet the criteria for claims that fall under the class action It is not always possible to identify the shingle type, date of manufacture or manufacturing plant during claim intake The nature of the reported problem is often generic as well We are better able to assess the nature of the problem, along with the shingle type, after we’ve evaluated the shingle samples and reviewed the submitted claim documents In this particular case, the information uncovered during our claim analysis revealed that this claim had to be re-classified As a result, we require additional information to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that our findings are accurate

I have reviewed this claim and found that we had previously denied this claim due to improper application. The GAF standard limited warranty does not provide workmanship cover; however, as a measure of goodwill, we assisted [redacted] with the repairs. GAF... went beyond the terms and conditions of this limited warranty by offering support for an issue that was not covered under the warranty and we therefore cannot provide any additional assistance. I suggest that [redacted] contact his roofing contractor for assistance with this matter.

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID [redacted] Claimant originally contacted GAF to open a claim on 11/10/ That claim was closed, two years later, on 10/8/2012, due to inactivity, as GAF had not received any of the required submittals or evidence to support a warranty claim Claimant opened a second claim on 4/29/ GAF approved the claim for settlement and an offer was sent to the claimant The offer was then increased due to GAF back-dating the settlement calculation to the date of the original (inactive) claim This was done as a courtesy to the claimant As a result of this adjustment, the offer of settlement was increased from $to Claimant is demanding compensation that far exceeds the amount due under the warranty A copy of the applicable warranty has been attached for your reference GAF has fulfilled all obligations under the limited warranty

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted] GAF has conducted an onsite inspection of the claimant's roof and has determined that post application damage to the shingles is the reason for the leak reported in the initial claim The inspector observed a hole in the roof that was allowing water to leak into the houseAdditionally, our inspector observed a damaged gable vent and solar panels bolted through the shingles Any issues resulting from damage caused by "impact of foreign objects" are expressly excluded from warranty coverage Our inspector noted and photographed a hole through the roofing shingles as well as other penetrations that could adversely affect the performance of the roofing shinglesAs a result, the claim was denied On 1/25/2016, the homeowner contacted GAF to re-open this claim In response, GAF is sending an inspector to the home to perform another inspection to determine the cause of this newly reported leak
