GAF Warranty Dept Reviews (164)

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Claim ID # [redacted].  The claimant has expressed their dissatisfaction with the required submittals to support their warranty claim.  Unfortunately, GAF cannot properly investigate this claim without photos and samples that display the...

reported problem.  As our laboratory equipment is not portable, we are unable to provide the field inspection requested by the claimant.  In most cases, an onsite inspection would not be beneficial to the claimant.  While certain application defects can be identified by an inspector, the same cannot be said of most manufacturing defects.  In order to ensure that our evaluation is thorough and accurate, we need to examine the affected shingles in our laboratory.  This requirement is expressly worded in our warranties and is consistent with industry standards and policies.  We regret that the claimant is unhappy with these requirements.  There is, however, no other responsible way to move forward with the claim investigation.  This is especially true in claims pertaining to discoloration as many factors can affect the appearance of a roof.  Please understand that our goal, in all claim investigations, is to arrive at the correct conclusion.  To that end, we urge the claimant to solicit assistance to collect the required evidence for proper evaluation.

GAF's policies regarding warranty transfers are clearly outlined in our warranties.  The reference to the bundle wrappers was made to illustrate the fact that we try to provide high visibility of the warranty terms and conditions by printing them on the bundle wrappers.  Unfortunately, in...

this case, we were notified too late (when the claimant was attempting to file a claim under the warranty).  We're sorry for the inconvenience, but our initial decision still stands.

settlement offer sheet.  Claimant is seeking compensation above and beyond the warranty terms.  GAF is honoring the warranty and the settlement offer is based on the specific terms of the warranty.

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted].  In his complaint, claimant states that he does not feel he should be required to submit a shingle sample to GAF for evaluation.  The claimant filed a claim pursuant to a Class Action Settlement Agreement reached in the...

matter entitled In re: Building Material Corp. of America Asphalt Roofing Shingle Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 8:11-mn-0200 (D.S.C.).  The Settlement Agreements, which were fully vetted by the Court prior to receiving final approval, include detailed claims procedures and requirements, all of which apply to this claim.  GAF is obligated to abide by the terms and conditions of the Settlement Agreements in evaluating claims filed by Class Members.  The Settlement Agreements provide detailed claim requirements which claimants are obligated to comply with in order to be eligible for compensation.  The requests for information sent to claimant are consistent with the requirements set forth in Section 7.4, specifically:The Claim Kit will require a Settlement Class Member to provide the following:     (g) - One full size complete and intact Cracked Timberline Shingle (measuring approximately 12" by 36") certified by Claimant to be from the structure. While GAF regrets that this claimant is frustrated with this request, GAF is fully within its' rights to request the shingle sample.  In fact, it is an explicit claim requirement set forth in the Settlement Agreements.  We strongly urge the claimant to review the Settlement Agreements, which can be found at [redacted] to better understand his obligations as a Class Member.  It is our hope that this response properly addresses the concerns of the NJ Revdex.com.

GAF is not Revdex.com accredited because their product is cheap garbage, do not honor their warranty and will lie to get out of paying a claim. If you have their shingles installed, you can eat them if anything goes wrong. We had GAF shingles installed in January and the asphalt is already coming off and the roof is discolored in large segments. Do not buy anything from this company.

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted].  GAF has reviewed the customer's complaint.  We have contacted the claimant and are in the process of arranging a second visit to the site.  We are in agreement with the claimant that this claim should be re-evaluated...

and we will be dispatching an inspector to meet with the homeowner to review his concerns.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I have been trying to get GAF  to take care of this for 5.5. Months. When the roof is replaced and interior leaks have stopped I will let you know. Until that time I have no confidence GAF will follow through.

Good Afternoon [redacted]

This is being written in response to Revdex.com ID # [redacted].  The homeowner states that they have rejected our initial response because the Golden Pledge Limited Warranty covers misapplication.  This is true, however, the Golden Pledge Warranty on this home only covers the 15 squares of Steep Slope roofing materials.  The contractor did not register or pay GAF for the Low Slope (flat) roof.  Only the shingles are covered by the warranty, not the flat roof.   It might be beneficial for the homeowner to contact the installing contractor regarding both the warranty registration and the application defects.

This response pertains to Revdex.com Case # [redacted].  Consumer is requesting that GAF waive certain claim submittal requirements.  Consumer requests that we settle the claim based on the information provided.  GAF is seeking additional information from the claimant in order to properly...

evaluate the claim.
During the claim intake process, the claimant’s representative stated that the shingles were brittle or “crunchy”.  The claim was opened and the claim procedures for brittle material were followed.  Upon receipt of the shingle samples, GAF discovered that the claimant was an eligible class member under the [redacted]e Class Action parameters.  As a result of this discovery, the claim process and corresponding requirements had to be modified to meet the criteria for claims that fall under the class action.
It is not always possible to identify the shingle type, date of manufacture or manufacturing plant during claim intake.  The nature of the reported problem is often generic as well.  We are better able to assess the nature of the problem, along with the shingle type, after we’ve evaluated the shingle samples and reviewed the submitted claim documents.  In this particular case, the information uncovered during our claim analysis revealed that this claim had to be re-classified.  As a result, we require additional information to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that our findings are accurate.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
[redacted] —at long last— visited my house last week (fully six weeks after we reported the problem). They pulled up roof shingles to determine where ice and water shielding was placed (fortunately I had some leftover shingles so they could repair the damage caused by their inspection)  and came to no conclusions, but told me to let them know if I noticed further leaking. The configuration of our house is such that I won't know it's leaking until significant damage has occurred. (We're already past the $10,000. mark in insurance claims for repairs due to the last incident.) The inspectors left scratching their heads having no idea where the leakage occurred, and I still have no "Peace of Mind" with respect to my warranty and no confidence that it will not leak again in the future.  I have zero confidence in this roof.
Regards,
[redacted]

I have reviewed this claim and found that we had previously denied this claim due to improper application.  The GAF standard limited warranty does not provide workmanship cover; however, as a measure of goodwill, we assisted [redacted] with the repairs.  GAF...

went beyond the terms and conditions of this limited warranty by offering support for an issue that was not covered under the warranty and we therefore cannot provide any additional assistance.  I suggest that [redacted] contact his roofing contractor for assistance with this matter.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I purchased an integrated roofing system (not just shingles), installed by a joint program with [redacted] and GAF with a warranty written by GAF to cover materials for 50 years and craftsmanship for 20+ years.  Under "what's not covered", my warranty only excludes damage caused by "ice damming above the area covered by leak barriers or above flashings."  All of the leakage occurred around skylights and at slope changes in the roof, which should have been covered by the leak barrier advertised as part of the roofing system.  If this material failed or was not installed properly, then it should be covered by the warranty.  Failure two and a half years into a 50 year warranty is thoroughly unacceptable.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:That is an acceptable response up to certain point as it does not make reference to our calls to GAF and their regional representative without obtaining a satisfactory response or the additional clarifications we needed under the circumstances wnhich made me susplicious that we were given the "running around."  I will withdraw the compllaint as soon as the problem with my roof is resolved to my satisfaction (don't forget that I am the customer).
Regards,

This is being written in response to Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted].  GAF has been in contact with both the homeowner (claimant) and the repair contractor [redacted]).  [redacted] has ordered the materials and they will be replacing the roof on November 21st (weather...

permitting).  The claimant has been notified.  We hope this satisfactorily addresses the claimant's concerns.

We were not complaining about GAF not honoring their warranty, we are complaining that the warranty is unfair to consumer's.   Since we have no other options, we have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
complaint [redacted] Immediately after my original complaint was filed with Revdex.com, I was contacted by GAF's representative promising to fix the roof leakage. As usual, I have not heard anything further from anyone since.  (probably because Revdex.com complaint was dropped)After all this delay, I just received a letter from GAF indicating that the leakage is not due to the shingles or the roofing system and are not covered under the "Golden Pledge" warranty which I purchase. I am very confident that the GAF's argument is completely wrong and misleading. My old roof did not leak for over 18 years prior to replacing it with GAF.It has been leaking ever since the replacement of entire roof with GAF.Although GAF would like to blame the leak to poor design of my roof, the roof was just fine prior to their work.Only reason we replaced the roof was for the cosmetic reason. I would like to re-open my complain and prevent any other other consumers from unprofessional and unethical company like GAF. Regards, [redacted]

Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: I was never told to get warranty. They are defective tiles. A warranty should not be a factor. If a company sells defective items they should replace or give the money back regardless of a warranty. If I purchase an item and it doesn't work I am able to take it back. The tiles are defective and are coming apart on my 8 year old roof.
