Grand Canyon University Reviews (655)

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Mr. [redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond. The issues have been reviewed by the Cohort Student Services Director Alicia B[redacted] and based on that review; GCU has determined that Mr. [redacted] complaint was...

appropriately resolved. This determination is based on the following information:In March 2015 Mr. [redacted] completed an Enrollment Agreement to enroll in GCU’s Master of Science in Nursing: Family Nurse Practitioner program and began his program in May 2015.  By signing his enrollment agreement, Mr. [redacted] acknowledged that his program of study required 53 credits.  In addition, Mr. [redacted] also acknowledged his understanding that tuition rates were outlined in the University Policy Handbook which was available to him at the website www.gcu.edu/Admissions/Admissions.php.    On April 28, 2015; prior to the start of Mr. [redacted] first course, Student Services Counselor Samy Carlon L[redacted] completed a Welcome Call with Mr. [redacted].  During this call financial aid information was discussed such as method of payment, how financial aid works, payment periods, billing cycles and statements.  However, GCU can find no records which indicate that Mr. [redacted] was told his program would cost $20,000.  In fact, Mr. [redacted] receives an award letter each academic year that lists how much financial aid he is borrowing for that specific period.  Moreover, all students have access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website which is where all student loan information is stored.  Students can access this website at any time to see information on how much funding they have used to date, how much funding they have left and information on their lender.   Furthermore, during Mr. [redacted] enrollment period to date he was charged tuition and fees in the amount of $18,747.86 for eleven (11) courses and received $27,194 in financial aid loans.  Once his loans were applied to his tuition charges, Mr. [redacted] was issued a total of $6,920 in stipend checks.  Mr. [redacted] has the opportunity at any time to return his stipends rather than keep the money in order to reduce the cost of his attendance.  Once Mr. [redacted] has successfully completed the two courses that he is currently enrolled in, he will need six (6) more courses to complete his degree.  As mentioned above, tuition rates are outlined in GCU’s University Policy Handbook available to Mr. [redacted] at the above website.  In regards to Mr. [redacted] complaint that GCU did not approve the transfer of a course he had completed in a previous degree, GCU’s capstone course is different content from the course Mr. [redacted] completed in his previous master’s degree program.  Along with different content the capstone course also has different objectives that need to be met for Mr. [redacted] current program of study.  GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,Alicia B[redacted]Cohort Student Services DirectorGrand Canyon University

It is not that I reject the response. I am just reluctant to close this as my educational endeavors are at stake. I have not received advise on a plan of action if indeed a practicum has not been secured. I have found that Grand Canyon University is not highly rated, with other brick and mortar schools in my area of residence, are taking in and accepting practicum students. Online schools such as University of Phoenix, Capella, and others are having better success in obtaining Practicum sites. It is true that Ms. T[redacted] has reached out to me and received many zip codes for sites. This is something that was done by myself and my many requests for Practicum including resumes, etc. Only one site responded, and then reneged on the offer at the last minute.Perhaps the lesser known online universities owe their students extra support during the transition from brick and mortar to virtual. It is difficult enough for a student to obtain a degree on line without study groups, etc, and it is a great accomplishment. To get to the end and be stymied by politics is a slap in the face to the student and does not say much for the school.I would like to keep the issue open for further observation and consideration. I also have issue with being charged for "buying" a book (95.00 each class) when in reality, one is renting an e-book.Thank you

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms. [redacted]’s rebuttal complaintand we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by Dan S[redacted](Regional Director of Operations – College of Education) and, based on that review, GCU hasdetermined that Ms. [redacted]’s complaint was appropriately resolved. This determination isbased on the following information:On August 11, 2017 I attempted to contact Ms. [redacted] regarding her complaint but wasunable to reach her so I left her a voicemail. Ms. [redacted] called me back on Friday August 18,2017 and left me a voicemail. I was able to return her call Monday morning of August 21, 2017. Irecapped again her situation and proceeded to help explain her $1,351 balance owed to GCU. Ialso informed her that I would have her assigned Student Service Counselor walk her throughher balance in more detail, and provide an email containing a breakdown of her balance alongwith a ledger. I also reminded Ms. [redacted] that she can log onto her student portal to reviewher balance with the breakdown. She did speak with her assigned SSC but she wants anadditional bill stating the balance is a result of receiving a stipend.Ms. [redacted] called back on August 22, 2017 and requested her transcripts for her employer. My SSC and Student Service Manager explained to her that she will need to resolve herbalance in order to receive her transcripts per University policy. Ms. [redacted] requested toappeal getting her transcripts.I called Ms. [redacted] shortly after the above mentioned conversation on August 22, 2017. I alsoincluded my SSM in the conversation so we could all be on the same page. I recapped hersituation and read back to her the appeal denial letter she received back in April, 2017. Thisbreaks everything down along with the fact that I also provided a customer write off $1,000bringing her balance from $2,351 down to $1,351. This letter was mailed to Ms. [redacted] backin April, 2017. I also again informed Ms. [redacted] that she can see her balance with a breakdown on the student portal and in her full ledger which I previously emailed to her. Ms. [redacted]stated she wants an additional bill with an official statement of what her balance is a result of.Ms. [redacted] then requested to appeal to obtain her transcripts for her employer. I reinforcedwhat my SSC team previously communicated that she would need to resolve her balance first inorder to receive her transcripts. I also explained that this is not something that can be appealedsince her previous appeals regarding this situation were denied. She requested a copy of herdenial letter from April because she stated she never received it. I told her we could send her acopy of the letter and again we could arrange a flexible payment plan. While I was speaking withMs. [redacted], she hung up and disconnected the call.GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in anamicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to asatisfactory conclusion. Sincerely,Dan S[redacted]Regional Director of Operations – College of EducationGrand Canyon University

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms. [redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by Chris K[redacted], the College of Theology Regional Director of Operations and, based on that review, GCU has determined that Ms. [redacted] complaint was appropriately handled. This determination is based on the following information:With the request we were given from Ms. [redacted], we were unable to discern the difference in a class vs University withdrawal. The verbal request made by Ms. [redacted] to withdraw was interpreted as a request to fully withdraw from GCU. That being said, if Ms. [redacted] wishes to remain with GCU, our previous offer is still valid for assistance in offsetting any out of pocket costs, as long as Ms. [redacted] meets date parameters that exist for the offer she was made which are outlined below. In the event that Ms. [redacted] chooses to continue on her path with GCU, we are still able to offer the same non-passing grade credit to her account to assist in her ability to continue with her studies. The credit can only be applied for up to 120 days from the last attendance date, so Ms. [redacted] will have to be back in attendance by 2/19/2016.  If this does not happen, we will have to continue to rely on her agreement to pay the balance in full by 2/26/2016.  Otherwise, Ms. [redacted] file will be moved to GCU’s internal collections team at which time they will attempt to make other arrangements with her in the event that she does not fulfill the commitment to either return to the program, or pay her balance in full by 2/26/2016.  Ms. [redacted] can contact Brianna T[redacted] Student Services Manager, at [redacted] in order to assist with her return to GCU.GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,Chris K[redacted]College of TheologyGrand Canyon University

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of [redacted] rebuttal complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by [redacted], Dean of the College of Doctoral Studies, and based on that review, GCU has determined that Mr. [redacted] complaint was appropriately resolved. This determination is based on the following information:GCU is unable to determine which two courses Mr. [redacted] is referring to in the above referenced complaint without actual course numbers.  However, GCU records indicate that he took his first RES course in 2011, his second RES course in 2012 and his third RES course in 2013.  All of these RES courses discussed research methodology in some manner, as do the RSD Residency courses, so it is unclear which courses are of concern.  Additionally two courses would not have cost Mr. [redacted] $9000 as GCU’s non-residency doctoral program courses cost $1890 per course; $630 per credit.  This price per credit hour puts GCU in the lower range of doctoral programs available to students who need the flexibility of an online modality.  GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,[redacted]DeanCollege of Doctoral StudiesGrand Canyon University

Dear Revdex.com,
Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms. [redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by the [redacted], [redacted] and, based on that review; GCU has determined that Ms....

[redacted] complaint was appropriately resolved. This determination is based on the following information:
Upon a review of Ms. [redacted] account, it was determined that her account balance is valid.  Ms. [redacted]’s account balance in the amount of $4,014.00 is due to her receiving three non-passing grades ([redacted] on May 21, 2012, [redacted] on July 30, 2012, and [redacted] on September 24, 2012).  After Ms. [redacted] received the non-passing grade in [redacted] on May 21, 2012, she was offered a one-time waiver of the tuition balance which was contingent on Ms. [redacted] successfully completing the retake.  Ms. [redacted] then attempted the retake; however on July 30, 2012 she received another non-passing grade. Thus the credit was voided and created an additional balance.  Ms. [redacted] then attempted a third class; PSY-452 but again did not complete it successfully.
Per University records, on September 20, 2012 Ms. [redacted] spoke to a finance counselor and was going to make a payment on her account balance. However, she did not make that payment.  On December 12, 2012 Ms. [redacted] stated that she could not afford to make a payment and as a result her account was sent to Internal collections.  Ms. [redacted] did make a few collections payments between May 2013 and January 2014, totaling $850.00.  However, as of January 8, 2014 Ms. [redacted] has not made any further payments towards her account balance.  This brings Ms. [redacted]’s remaining account balance to $3,164.00 still owed.
In regards to Ms. [redacted]’s transcript, per University policy, a Finance hold will prohibit any future class registration as well as prohibit the purchase and distribution of any official Grand Canyon University transcripts or diploma. Any students who have a hold placed on their account will be subject to Grand Canyon University’s Collection Policy. Failure to comply with the stated policies of the University may result in an administrative withdrawal from classes and/or submission to an outside collection agency, with the student assuming all additional costs.  On March 18, 2010 Ms. [redacted] signed her Enrollment Application and acknowledged having access to the University Policy Handbook which contains these policies.
GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.
Sincerely,

This determination is based on the following information:The information requested by Ms. [redacted] is already available for Ms. [redacted] online at [redacted].  Ms. [redacted] award letter is also available online on her student portal under “My Financial Aid.”  Nonetheless, GCU will mail physical copies of her financial aid documents to the address on her account including the [redacted] (Free Application for [redacted]), the MPN (Master Promissory Note), EI (Entrance Interview), and the award letter. GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,[redacted], MBARegional Director of OperationsGrand Canyon University

Dear [redacted],
Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Mr. [redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by [redacted], Assistant Vice President [redacted] and, based on that review; GCU has determined that Mr....

[redacted] complaint requires no further action. This determination is based on the following information:
Per University records, on September 25, 2014 Mr. [redacted] submitted a document for GCU to complete regarding his state licensing; however the form was submitted incomplete.  On October 2, 2014 Mr. [redacted] resubmitted the form.  On November 12, 2014, the form was completed by GCU and was mailed via [redacted] to Mr. [redacted] at GCU’s expense.  GCU also noticed that although it was not requested by Mr., [redacted] when he submitted his form, an official transcript was needed along with the completed form.  As such, on November 13, 2014 GCU sent the completed form along with an official transcript to Mr. [redacted].  In addition, [redacted], Student Services Manager, contacted Mr. [redacted] to address his complaint and to provide him with this information.  As well, Mr. [redacted] sent an electronic version of the documents via email to Mr. [redacted] and also provided the [redacted] tracking number. Mr. [redacted] appreciated the call and getting the documentation completed.  GCU apologizes for any inconvenience this delay has caused.

Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Mr. [redacted]’s complaint and we value the opportunity to respond. The issue has been reviewed by the Associate Vice President, College of Education, [redacted] and, based on that review; GCU has determined that Mr. [redacted]’s complaint was...

appropriately resolved. This determination is based on the following information: By signing his Enrollment Agreement Mr. [redacted] acknowledged having received Grand Canyon University’s Policy Handbook, Academic Catalog and Student Handbook available to him at the website: www.gcu.edu/Admissions/Admissions/php and that he understood he could receive the most up-to-date information at the above site regarding all University policies, including cancellation and refund policies. Per University policy, students who drop a course during or after week 2 are not eligible for a refund. On May 29, 2014, Mr. [redacted] spoke with his Enrollment Counselor and expressed concerns with his online course. During this call, Mr. [redacted]’s Enrollment Counselor reviewed GCU’s drop/refund policy with Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] indicated he was not aware of the policy but stated that while he did not want to drop his class, he did want to think about it as at that point in time, Mr. [redacted] would have been responsible for 25% of the cost of his course if he chose to drop it. On June 2, 2014 Mr. [redacted] spoke with his Enrollment Counselor again and stated that he had decided not to drop his course and that he wanted to continue in his program. However, soon after, Mr. [redacted] stopped attending his course and became less responsive to multiple attempts from GCU staff to contact him regarding his course and his intentions. As Mr. [redacted] was already in week 2 of his course and never dropped his course he is responsible for 100% of the tuition cost for his course. In addition to the above information, per University records, Mr. [redacted] did contact GCU technical support. However, this was prior to his complaints that he was unable to submit his assignments. Based upon the above information, Mr. [redacted] is responsible for the cost of his course. However, GCU is open to working with Mr. [redacted] on a possible resolution although Mr. [redacted] will simply not return any calls from GCU. He is more than welcome to contact me at ###-###-#### in order to discuss a possible resolution regarding his account balance. GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner. I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion. Sincerely, [redacted] College of Education SE Division Grand Canyon University

Dear Revdex.com,Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms. [redacted] rebuttal comments and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by the Regional Director of Operations, Kenneth A** and, based on that review, GCU has determined that Ms. [redacted] complaint was appropriately resolved. This determination is based on the following information:Ms. [redacted] had been advised that the Office of Field Experience will continue to assist her in finding a site. She is requesting a plan of action should she not find a site. The requirements for Ms. [redacted] degree include a practicum, the plan is to continue assisting her to the best of our ability until she has an approved practicum site. Ms. [redacted] has been concerned with possible program changes to her degree, to this we have advised her that she will only need to complete practicum. There is no other course of action than to continue working on locating a practicum site. In regards to the Canyon Connect fee that is associated with the courses in Ms. [redacted] program, she was advised appropriately and in a timely manner concerning this fee. On September 25, 2013, she spoke with her Student Service Advisor, Albert C[redacted] and he explained the cost and fees of the program. Ms. [redacted] then began the program on November 7, 2013. Per the Grand Canyon University Student Policy handbook which Ms. [redacted] acknowledged she had access to (and which all students have access to) when she signed her enrollment agreement, the Canyon Connect fee is assessed as follows:“Any course where digital materials are provided will be charged the course materials fee. Digital course materials include but are not limited to, simulations, multimedia content, eBooks and/or custom created content. Some courses will include electronic textbooks for which students will be charged a Canyon Connect fee.” GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,Kenneth A**Regional Director of OperationsGrand Canyon University

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
At this point, my complaint is no longer about the debt.  My complaint has more to do with their collection practices.  First of all their response to my request comes too little too late.  According to [redacted] Grand Canyon University had 30 days to respond to my request for investigation.  I contacted the Revdex.com because they did not respond to my request in the specified time frame.  Furthermore, if account was sent to collections as they stated, why then is this account reporting a balance instead of reporting to the bureau "transferred" zero balance?  I think its high time Grand Canyon University cease reporting this item as they have violated consumer protection laws in the process.  I am making every effort to resolve this matter through the Revdex.com, rather than report this matter to the [redacted], [redacted] or take legal action in a courtroom before a jury.  I suggest they make themselves familiar with [redacted]) Ability of consumer to dispute information directly with furnisher.

Dear Revdex.com,
Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms[redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by the [redacted] Regional Director of Operations, [redacted] and, based on that review; GCU has determined that Ms. [redacted] complaint was appropriately resolved.
It is Ms. [redacted] contention that she recently requested to drop her housing for the Spring 2015 semester at her [redacted] student housing location due to her recent marriage and that she did not discover until after doing so that the [redacted] housing location is charged on an academic year (Fall & Spring) rather than a term basis.  On October 16, 2014 Ms. [redacted] completed a withdraw form and acknowledged that she had read and understood GCU’s Housing Reimbursement Policy.  See Attached.  Per GCU’s housing policy this was well past the July 1, 2014 deadline to receive 100% reimbursement of rent charges.  In addition, [redacted] residents are charged by the academic year and will be reimbursed accordingly.

In addition to the above information, GCU provides students ample housing notifications regarding deadlines, timelines, and information around reimbursements. GCU Housing policies to include the policy for [redacted] housing is located in the GCU Housing Application and the Student Policy Handbook.  As well, supporting emails are provided to students prior to cancelation deadlines.  See Attached
GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.

resolved. This determination is based on the following information:Per University records, on February 20, 2008 Ms. [redacted] completed an application to attend GCU and on March 14, 2008 as part of the application process, GCU’s Office of Academic Records (“OAR”) received Ms. [redacted] Lindenwood college transcripts.  Upon Ms. [redacted] enrollment, she  participated in the 2008 Spring2 and Summer2 semesters between March and August 2008.  Additionally, on June 25, 2008 GCU was notified that Ms. [redacted] changed her GCU program to MBA leadership.  On June 30, 2008 Ms. [redacted] was awarded Federal student loans in the amount of $11,305.66 in subsidized loans as well as $11,985.96 in unsubsidized loans.  These loans were applied to Ms. [redacted] tuition charges here at GCU and the credit that was created in the amount of $7,051.32 was issued in a stipend check to Ms. [redacted] on July 10, 2008.  On August 25, 2008 Ms. [redacted] faxed a Loan Clearance letter to GCU that stated “I am no longer enrolled in your school. I originally sent this to you on August 12, 2008 and you sent it to my school saying I was still enrolled.”  On August 20, 2008 GCU then processed a complete withdrawal in response to Ms. [redacted] letter.  In addition to the above information, Ms. [redacted] was enrolled in a total of 4 courses at GCU and she received a grade of WF in three of those courses and an F in the fourth course.  With these non-passing grades on September 4, 2008 GCU was required to return both the Federal Subsidized and Federal Unsubsidized loans that Ms. [redacted] had not earned to the lender.  As a result, this created a $1,399.96 balance owed to GCU by Ms. [redacted] for her non-passing grades and for not earning the Federal financial aid.  Ms. [redacted] could have returned this portion of the $7,051.32 stipend amount that was sent to her to GCU in order to pay her account balance; however she chose to keep this money instead.GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,[redacted], Regional Director of OperationsGrand Canyon University

Dear Revdex.com, Grand Canyon University (“GCU”) is in receipt of Ms. [redacted] complaint and we value the opportunity to respond.  The issue has been reviewed by Danielle R[redacted], Regional Director of the College of Nursing and Health Care.  Based on that review, GCU has determined that...

Ms. [redacted] complaint was appropriately resolved.  This determination is based on the following information:Ms. [redacted] enrolled with GCU in November 2012 and attended until October 2013 at which time she was automatically withdrawn for lack of attendance.  During this enrollment period Ms. [redacted] was charged tuition and fees in the amount of $8,535 for five courses and received $15,004 in Financial Aid loans and grants.  Once her loans and grants were applied to her tuition charges, Ms. [redacted] was issued a total of $4,649 in stipend checks.  However, because Ms. [redacted] stopped attending, GCU was required per Federal regulations to complete a return of funds calculation for the unearned funds.  This resulted in $3,962 being returned to Ms. [redacted] lender which left Ms. [redacted] with an account balance in the amount of $2,142.  Had Ms. [redacted] returned that portion of her stipends rather than keep the money she would have had a zero balance on her account.  Nonetheless, on September 1, 2015 GCU wrote off Ms. [redacted] $2,142 account balance.  However, it should be noted that although Ms. [redacted] had a bankruptcy case, her balance with GCU was non-dischargeable.  Therefore GCU was not required to write off her balance, it was simply done in good faith. On November 4, 2015 Ms. [redacted] signed an Enrollment Agreement to return to her program and started a course on November 30, 2015.  However, on January 25, 2016 Ms. [redacted] was once again automatically withdrawn from her course for lack of attendance as she had not attended class for thirty eight days.  During this time, GCU notified Ms. [redacted] numerous times via email that if she did not post into her course she would be removed from class for lack of participation and that this may negatively impact her finances as well as her academic progress.  Per GCU’s refund policy, which was outlined on the agreement that Ms. [redacted] signed, since the withdrawal occurred after the first week of class, Ms. [redacted] was 100% financially responsible for the cost of her course in the amount of $1,840.  During this enrollment period Ms. [redacted] also received $8,082 in Financial Aid loans and grants.  Once her loans and grants were applied to her tuition charges, Ms. [redacted] was issued a stipend check in the amount of $2,647.  However, because Ms. [redacted] stopped attending, GCU was required per Federal regulations to complete a return of funds calculation for the unearned funds.  This resulted in $7,039 being returned to Ms. [redacted] lender which left Ms. [redacted] with an account balance in the amount of $3,444.  Again had Ms. [redacted] returned her stipend check it would have reduced her balance to $797.  In addition to the above information, GCU made twelve attempts to reach out to Ms. [redacted] via telephone and sent Ms. [redacted] eleven emails between January 7, 2016 and March 14, 2016 but was unsuccessful in reaching Ms. [redacted].  The email communication informed Ms. [redacted] that our attempts to resolve her outstanding balance have not been successful, and stated that we would appreciate an opportunity to speak with her to prevent her account from being moved to collections.  However, Ms. [redacted] did not reach out to GCU in order to resolve her account balance.  Therefore, on March 15, 2016 she was notified that her account had been turned over to GCU’s Internal Collections department.  Internal Collections sent letters to Ms. [redacted] on March 16, 2016 and on May 4, 2016 informing her that her account would be sent to external collections if she did not resolve her account balance.  Additional attempts were also made to reach Ms. [redacted] via email and telephone between April 5, 2016 and April 28, 2016.  However, Mr. [redacted] was unresponsive.  She can contact GCU’s Internal Collections Department at ###-###-#### to discuss her account balance which is due and owing.  Further, Ms. [redacted] can also view her student records by completing a Student Request to Inspect and Review Educational Records form and mailing it to the following address:Office of Academic RecordsGrand Canyon University[redacted]Phoenix, Arizona 85017GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.Sincerely, Danielle R[redacted]Regional DirectorGrand Canyon University

resolved.  This determination is based on the following information:Mr. [redacted] started an MBA program with GCU on 11/26/15.  His first course was UNV-504, in which he successfully passed the course and earned 2 credits. Financial aid funds posted to Mr. [redacted] account on 12/4/15 and once applied to his account balance, a stipend in the amount of $2,019.33 for the remaining amount was mailed out to Mr. [redacted] on 12/10/15. His second course was MGT-605 that began on 1/07/17, in which a failing grade was earned by Mr. [redacted] and therefore zero credits were earned.  Mr. [redacted] fell inactive after this course and sat out for a period of 3 months.  Per federal financial aid guidelines a return of funds for his financial aid was calculated and returned to Mr. [redacted] lender, which resulted in a balance on his account in the amount of $1,122.11.  Mr. [redacted] then returned to class on 6/30/16 and re-took MGT-605, in where the funds that had been returned to the lender were able to be returned to his account.  However, Mr. [redacted] received another F in the re-take of MGT-605 and fell inactive again. Upon falling out of attendance, another return to lender was calculated and processed, which resulted in a balance on Mr. [redacted] account in the amount of $2,648.28.  In Academic Year 1, Payment Period 1, Mr. [redacted] only ended up earning 2 credits out of the 10 credits he attempted, therefore since he didn’t earn all of his funding, it has resulted in a balance on his account in the amount of $2,648.28.   The total institutional cost for Academic Year 1, Payment Period 1 starting on 11/26/15 was $5,908.95. Mr. [redacted] was disbursed $7,493.00.  Once the return for funds was calculated by our Office of Financial Aid, it was determined Mr. [redacted] earned $4,136.14. Therefore a return was completed in the amount of $3,356.86 ($2,648 which is due to the school and $709 that is due from Mr. [redacted]).  The $709 is the portion of unearned funds that were sent to Mr. [redacted] in the form of a stipend on 12/10/15.Our counseling and management staff reached out to Mr. [redacted] multiple times over the course of a few months in efforts to speak with him about the balance and put a plan in place to resolve the balance and continue with his program of study.  Unfortunately, all of these attempts were not responded to and therefore Mr. [redacted] account was transitioned to GCU’s internal collections department.  However, since receiving this compliant, we have attempted to reach out to Mr. [redacted] again in efforts to further explain the balance and answer any questions he may have.  In addition to reaching out via telephone, on March 2, 2017 GCU emailed Mr. [redacted] and provided him a copy of his loan history which included a breakdown of the above information.  Mr. [redacted] responded and stated that he preferred to communicate via email and had some questions.  GCU is in the process of responding to Mr. [redacted] questions via email per his request. We have been more than willing to work with Mr. [redacted] to further explain his account balance, as well as discuss a plan that would allow him to resolve the balance and finish his program.  Although Mr. [redacted] indicated he would like to communicate via email, he is welcome to contact Student Service Manager, Becca D[redacted] at ###-###-#### in order to discuss his balance and a plan to resolve his balance and complete his program.  Otherwise GCU will continue to communicate with Mr. [redacted] via email per his request.GCU takes student complaints very seriously and does everything it can to resolve them in an amicable manner.  I hope the aforementioned information/actions will bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion.  Sincerely,Jaime L[redacted]COE- Southeast Division Grand Canyon University

I have confirmed with the [redacted] Department of Education that they NEVER accepted Special Education Framework 529 N course to their education requirements.  The course that they accept is 526 SPED Educating Diverse Learners for meeting the Special Education Prerequisite requirement.  You are welcomed to get further information about this from [redacted], Licensure Specialist, ###-###-#### I sent over a letter from came from the [redacted] of Education stating what course they would accept. I know several students that went to GCU from 2012 onward that had to take another course just to even get a provisional license in the [redacted] because the [redacted] of Education DOES NOT accept 529N.   I have two co-workers that had to pay additional money to meet the [redacted] of Education requirement just to even get a provisional license.   I sent documents verifying what I claimed to Dr[redacted] and never heard back.  I along with other former students related this program had issues with the  529N acceptance which led to other issues with gaining a Special Education Credential in the State of Virginia. I sent several emails to Dr[redacted] and members of the student services team and haven't heard back.  If you have been hired to teach Special Education and you have never held a Virginia Special Education Teaching License you will need to go through the initial license process to be issued a 5-year renewable license if you have met all requirements for licensure or a 3- year non-renewable Special Education Provisional License if you hold at least a Bachelors degree and you have completed and passed the Intro to Special Education Students/Characteristics and Legal Aspects of Special Education course(s).  Again 529N has never met this requirement. (Introduction to Special Education) course through [redacted] University– which meets the Virginia
requirement for provisional licensure in special education –  this one course at [redacted] University allows for a provisional license.  The 529N doesn't cover the same topics.   There is courses from [redacted] University or [redacted] University that meets the requirements.   I want GCU give me a scholarship to finish out my program.  I shouldn't have to pay for additional courses.   What is the harm to help me finish out my degree?  GCU has already failed me as an institution.
