Grand Canyon University Reviews (655)

I was told that my Masters program would cost $20,for the programI also recently requested an approval for placing out of a course due to previous educationI found out that they would not honor a previous degree excepting me from a course nor was the education $20,

As been stated before, this college is a shamAfter receiving a "D" in my most recent class (which is considered failing and no credit is given), I was essentially charged twice for the courseI was charged for the course and after final grades, the charge was reversedBut the difference did not show up in my student loansThis left me with an outstanding balance of nearly $After going back and forth with my student service counselor (who was not helpful at all), he simply stated he could not help me and my only option was to get an outside loan or pay the balance out of pocketAside from having an outstanding balance, I also wanted to change my course of studyI originally chose to get a teaching degree in Secondary EducationAs time went on, I wanted to switch to General Educational Studies (which is in the same college)My previous SSC handle all the paperwork and said that would be no problem to switchI was then assigned a new SSC who stated I had to finish my original degree plan and then I could start on my new degree planThat course of action would have me take several unnecessary classes and cost me several thousands extraI would not recommend this school to anybodyThere are simply interested in their own pocketbook and not the welfare and wishes of the students(if possible to have given zero stars, I would have)

I withdrew from Grand Canyon in June of I transferred to a different school that JulyI was told by my new school that they could not give me any financial aid until my pending Pell Grant from GCU had been cancelledI eventually paid for my first semester out of pocketI had contacted GCU multiple times (over 10) to get this taken care ofIt is still considered pendingI think it is ridiculous that I have been trying for months to get MY money to pay for MY schoolingI have tried being nice and understandingBut they are refusing to help and "refund" my money to meIt is now going to affect my schooling this semesterI have absolutely no idea what else I can doI am filing to hopefully get them to push this through, as I need this pending financial aid by March 20th cancelledI have been told every excuse in the book and nothing, NOTHING is being done about it

This university is a jokeAfter deciding I wanted to go back to school after many years of working in the IT field, I chose GCU because I chose to go into ministryThe first two years of this school was greatSince then, the school has grown to a point they are unable to manage the staffFurthermore, the majority of the instructors I get are adjunct professors who either don't grade on time or give very inadequate feedbackWhen you contact student services, all they do is try to appease you and do very little to address or discipline the instructorsI have become so stressed out with this university that it makes it difficult to even care anymore

The only option is at least one star but if I could I would give NO stars! I enrolled in school at GCU and the admissions counselor was completely incompetent and never could answer my questions about the programShe was never available to speak and would only send TEXT MESSAGE which is completely inappropriate! All she kept asking about was my financial aid paper work and told me I couldn’t speak to my financial aid counselor without a scheduled appointmentI called her anyway and MICHELE W*** was the most ignorant and petty person I ever came in contact withMICHELE W*** had a dog barking in the background while we were speaking and I found out that my file wasn’t even complete and this school allows you to attend without being verified which means you could end up owing GCU after the first class! I emailed her the info required to complete my verification that I didn’t know I needed and I added in the email that they should do a better job at communication and keeping their student notifiedMICHELE W*** continued to send Petty emails trying to defend their incompetence and even tried to get me to withdraw my application with the school, pretty much trying to kick me out of school before I even startedSo unbelievably unprofessional!!!! And her manager MERCEDES S*** was copied on all emails and never stepped inI had to ask MICHELE to stop emailing me because she wouldn’t stop attacking me until I demanded she not contact me until she had valuable infoI reported them to the school and fwd the emails to JORDAN J***, their Director who completely ignored my phone calls and my emailsHe did absolutely nothing and every time I called I was told he was the only one I could speak toJORDAN J*** is allegedly the director and he is completely unreliable and unwilling to assistThen I finally get a call back from MERCEDES S*** and she was rude and spoke to me as if I was bothering herShe continued to defend the unprofessional emails and just like her co worker, she tried to get me to withdraw my applicationI also sent the correspondence to ***@GCU.EDU and they too ignored my request for a call back and never got back to meThis place is filled with people in positions that they don’t deserve because they are unprofessional and have no customer service skillsIf you have an issue you will NEVER get a hold of management because all they want is your money and don’t care AT ALL about their studentsI seems as though the staff is trained to me ignorant and nasty like MERCEDES S*** AND MICHELE W***I am going to make sure I tell everyone I know about my encounter and I would never recommend this school to ANYONEThere are other school who actually want to help studentsGCU has the worst reviews of any online school and for good reasonDo not waste your time or money here!!!

I am filing this complaint regarding Grand Canyon University and the financial aid office and specifically Roman R*** due to collection practices and inconsistent information being given
MrR*** has contacted me on three occasions February 27, 2016, May 31, 2016, and June 10,
The call on February 27, 2016, I inquired regarding my financial aid as I am aware I was researching the maximum aid I could receiveI asked MrR*** several different ways how much I was going to be responsible as tuition was raised and I was told upon enrollment it was not going to increase, but it hasI told him I knew at that time it was prior to the increaseI was told that my out of pocket including residency was going to be
MrR*** called me again on May 31, 2016, and told me I was going to owe the school 10, and how was I going to pay that? I asked him what was he talking about at last we talked he stated 3,He began to laugh and stated, “I never told

Back in Jan I attended GCU on campusI lived on Campus for the semester for four months Jan-April, but planned on finishing my education from homeOverall g*** experience, but my complaint started when my debit account was charged $for a housing application I never filled outGrand Canyon Housing charged my Debit account for an application to stay on campus, but I never filled any applications out to remain on campusDue to the $being unauthorized my bank reversed the moneyNow my problem is I’ve been out of school for a year and some, going back and forth with Grand Canyon University about my situationI’ve contacted supervisors to get my situation resolved so I can continue my education, but of course no one in higher power has contacted me back what so everWhen I spoke with my Counselor “Jeff T***” he stated the only ones who can take care of my problem would be housingI strongly believe I SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for $I didn’t authorizeI strong

School is mishandling financial aid, pell ***, and GI bill money also charging inappropriately taking advantage of a veteran I've not only tried communicating with the financial adviser who told me several times my account would be cleared after taking and passing my class I asked several times on a "recorded line" and I was told that it would indeed clear me, there was nothing else I needed to do since I receive GI Bill and I have a very high GPAHowever over the past several weeks I have noticed that my account information has greatly changedFrom owing the school $to $and now to $That $came after my VA payment and then the $came after a PELL *** came inMy account should be at a zero balanceI was told after completing the Organizational Behavior and Management class I would be completely cleared and yes this was expressed to me several times even in the last week of the class when I informed my adviser that I still had two weeks to do assignments

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
There was no resolution that was offered, The litany of emails only showed that their have been many emails sent and received I agree that many emails have been traded I have dozens where I am asking to receive information that I am still waiting on I believe that if someone could review the multitude of phone calls a pattern of deception and obfuscation would be seen To help in resolving my issues I am once again requesting physical copies of every single financial aid document that I filled out, and that GCU sent to the Department of Education, what they in turn received, and the Award Letter which has never been made availableI will then match this up with every email the notes from my phone conversations I to this date have not received this information which I am entitled to and has been withheld intentionally to extend enrollment to the point that a customer will owe something to GCU.

I have attended virtual and traditional universities, and graduated With Honors, for over years with the exception of Grand Canyon University I am HIGHLY dissatisfied with them for a variety of reasons When I first contacted them, it took three phone calls on different occasions before I finally got a phone call back When I did received that phone call, they transferred me to the International department, which required yet another phone call The initial counselor I spoke with seemed very knowledgeable and described my program of study and the institution as being superior to others and, since it was online, courses were very conducive to full-time employment and raising a family Because I had an extensive familiarity with online courses, I was fast-tracked past the initial courses that describe how to be successful in an online course It sounded great at the time, but as time went on, mounting frustrations resulted in missed information, policies, and a plethora of other pertinent information My struggles included navigating through their ridiculous online platform, locating necessary information vital to successful course completion, and a ridiculous coursework load that required extensively more time to complete than I was led to believe initially, to name a few Then I was transferred to different counselors whom were not near as helpful or knowledgeable as I would expect from such a prestigious institution I found myself increasingly frustrated with the lack of information and lack of communication The last course I attended I failed on two occasions due to a lack of communication and, after I appealed the decision, was denied Apparently unforeseen immediate health complications is not reason enough to approve an appeal, so the lesson is, do not have a medical emergency or you will fail the course Naturally, as in typical fashion with GCU, I was informed after the fact that I could have contacted yet another department to inform them of an immediate health issue and could have been afforded the request that I needed (a one day extension with the understanding that I would receive a penalty for submitting late) No wonder their graduation rate is sub par I would NEVER recommend this university to anyone

I had been attending Grand Canyon University for a year and a few monthsI ran into an issue this last year with financial aid numerous times where it had delayed my continuance with my classesI told my advisor that I had wanted to wait until I knew for sure that the financial aid had gone through with out an issue before I was enrolled into my next coursesUnfortunately, my advisor had said that my financial aid had gone through with no issues and I was able to start my next courseAfter a few weeks which was too late for my to withdraw from the course, I had never received an emailUp until after the completion of the course, an email was received after two monthsThe email disclosed that my financial aid had an issue and I was not able to receive the funds which had stuck me with the billThe same incident happened once again a few months down the line with a separate course which again was timed to where I could not withdraw from the classI have done everything in my powe

I was told that if I enrolled in Grand Canyon University's education program and agreed to work years in the district I was employed in after I graduated, my loans would be forgivenGCU said they had a contract with my district that's why they were able to offer me this dealThey also said if I did not fulfil the year commitment, my loans would become due
This was not true as the district has no such contract with Grand Canyon University and now my loans are due

I enrolled in classes at GCU I started ONE class and withdrew at end of first week I was having problems at home and was asked to move out I notified the school and explained why I was withdrawing After that, I received a $1,check from school They told me to deposit it and pay the school approximately $from that money Then the next day (I deposited the check) I paid the school the $out of my pocket on my credit card I also paid the school back $1,that was sent to me Yesterday (two months later) I find that the school redeposited those funds in my account I called the school and was quite nastily told I had to pay the financial aid lender So I find out who the lender is (I've never received any billing notifications from the school or any accounting of any kind in the mail) and called the lender I discover that the lender has an outstanding balance of $(approximately) on the student loan So doing the math $+ $= $3,owed

I am enrolled in my final class at Grand Canyon UniversityThe class is a week course with initial teaching certification included in the courseFor the past weeks I have been continuously misguided in advisement from the school, the faculty and professorsThey did not review my information and failed to issue to correct path for certification only to inform me weeks into the course that I was incorrect and requiring me to complete weeks of work in weeks in order to complete the information required to graduate and become certified

EMAIL I WROTE TO THEM IN OCTOBER, STILL NO ANSWERI WISH I WOULDVE LISTENED TO THE REVIEWS POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET
To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter to express my concern and to question the balance that I have on account with your schoolWhen I received this bill, I did a little research and came to find that this isn't the first billing issue your school has had in the past, and several this year alone with the Revdex.com and other school review sitesI would've never enrolled if I would have read the reviews first, and the warnings were exactly the situation I'm in nowI've seen that alot of other people's issues were reviewed and/or resolvedSo I decided to contact you, and go over my optionsI will now detail you the events that took place during my day enrollment with your school
February
-Showed interest online about the program, and received a phone call from an enrollment counselor named Victor PalafoxHe let me know about the school, asked about my interests and what I expect to get out of the program or the overall continuing of my educationBy the end of the conversation I was emailed, signed up, and sent the application, scholarship form(scholarship was present for undergraduates, and he wanted me to apply quickly to obtain this scholarship), promissory note, entrance interview, and transcript request form
-He seemed really interested in my future enrollment in this school and wanted to have the paperwork filed, and me registered immediatelyThis was the first of many daily emails or phone conversations between us
February 12,
-Accepted with specifications, and asked to fill out fasfa
February 18,
-Victor contacted me to advise me that my previous school loans were in default in collections, and let me know the steps to take to get the issue resolved
March 4,
-Loan wait gameVictor called or emailed 1-times a week to see if there was any updates
May 24,
-Finally received approval letter of loans out of defaultSent Victor a copyHe filed it and began the next stepI was very limited to phone and email access since I has been away for the holiday weekend and for my husbands graduation from the military, and as a gift I was taking him to Miami for the week
-Victor was aware of my hectic schedule but still enrolled me that weekend anyway with a class start date of the 25th
-By the 27th I already had my first assignment, which I could barely complete because not only did I have limited internet access with my wifi only tablet, I was on vacation!
June 14,
-Been back from vacation a couple of weeks, but that week away but a strain on my assignments and I just couldn't keep up, I was behind and with only relying on a tablet and crazy work schedule, it just wasn't going to work for me
-By then end of this day, I had informed Victor I was no longer going to be able to continue forward and that I was withdrawing, and my "so-called counselor " stated he was sorry to hear that, and I never heard from him again
-A week or so prior to my decision to withdraw I received a bill from the school for $2125.95, I immediately emailed Victor and stated if this is the bill then withdraw me immediately because I can't afford that, he stated for me to ignore it, as it is just automatically generated until financial aid kicks inI feel now I was told that as a ploy to keep me on the roster longer, so I can be accountable for this amount I'm getting billed for now
June 15,
-Contacted by Alyssa Schultz, the student services advisorI stated that I was confused about such high charges for so little days of classes and if she could break down the charges, so I can understand how barely attending a school would cost over $2,000, and she told me to review the welcome letter and student policy handbook, both which I told her I NEVER received
-I told her I would contact my attorney regarding the matter, and his advice to me has been to attempt to resolve as much of the issue on my own by all means, if not to check back in with him
Present Day:
This letter should've been written and sent immediately months ago, but I was away a lot for work, and didn't really have until now to get the dates and emails in orderI'm hoping to come to an understanding and arrangement with your help on this issue, and hope to come to a resolution we can both agree onThank you for your time and prompt attention to this matter

I would give GCU zero stars if I could Let me start by saying I have attended GCU's online for a year and have a GPA, so I am not a disgruntled student I also am an adult who graduated from High School over years ago I am providing this review because I didn't see anything in my research prior to signing up for the school that would have lead me to not enroll The online program requires you to do "busy" work, such as post twice to discussion questions, then you must have days worth of posts where you respond to your fellow students Now in theory, this is great Since we are online students, we need to interact with our classmates, but when the responses are simply, "Great Job", or, "I liked your post on....", there is no educational benefit to this I also asked different times to take more than one class and was brushed off each time I feel this For-Profit College is all about their profits and not about what is best for the student
I would never recommend this school to anyone At least the online program is horrible I even question if the professors were real teachers FYI, the math courses require you to sign up for another website and pay money to use that forum I have no problem doing this, but it would have been nice to know that my already expensive tuition didn't cover this I also don't understand why the homework on that math site had over questions each I had assignments of over questions due per week I get that we are in college, but I am also a full time employee and a husband and father I don't understand how answering college level math problems in a class that is supposedly designed to help me teach math to elementary kids is helpful RUN AWAY from this school quickly There are plenty of other options that are better and less expensive

Grand Canyon is inaccurately reporting my account as a charge offThen they reported it as a collectionThey provided a statement saying the account was settled for less than owed, but will not verify the collection agency where the “proposed payment” was madeI did not have a balance with GCU to settle in the first place

Love this school Our daughter is receiving a top notch education Better than any CA State school had to.offer

The named business is charging me for a class due to stating that I am not a matriculated student who can not receive approved financial aidI was told by this business that my official transcript can be sent by my employerI explained to the admission counselor that I was not able to get transcripts from the college where I received my undergraduate degreeI explained that my employer had a copy and would send itI was told that this was acceptable and admitted into the school's graduate programOnce they received my transcripts from my employer (the board of education) I received an email stating that my transcripts could not be accepted due to them not coming from my college where I graduatedI sent an email and called explaining that I was told they could be
sent by my employerThey later sent me a bill and stated they told me the transcripts had to be sealed, from my employerWhich makes no sense and they are being dishonest and deceitfulIf the school had a criteria th

I applied to Grand Canyon University (GCU) for an online Master's Program in Criminal Justice I was not enrolled when the class started on 5/26/ I emailed the enrollment counselor to confirm that I would not be enrolled on the starting date of 5/26/16, as she had told me on the telephone, and to inquire of the exact date that the next class started, later in June I did not receive a response to this email, but instead received a response saying that I was in the class that had started on 5/26/ I did not have access to the class, and emailed to verify this information I was subsequently put into the class after it had already started and was told to quick post something to the class wall, and work on the assignments, as I was behind since I was not in the class when it started This situation was not working according to how it was represented and in connection with my current personal situation at that time On Saturday, 5/28/16, I submitted the formal withdrawal form
