Greulich's Auto Repair Reviews (45)

Be careful taking your car in here, very dishonest people. They told me multiple lies. They caused damage to my car and gave a bunch of excuses and never offered to help with additional repairs. The VP of customer service (John) does not properly investigate issues and just comes up with a bunch excuses and what if scenarios.

I had taken my car in for a battery swap on July 21st, 2016 . I was there for nearly 3 hours waiting for the swap to be done, but was told there was an issue starting the car after the battery was changed out. Afterwards, the manager Stan told me to call a tow truck and take it to a Chevy dealership to see what the issue was since they could not figure it out.

I was able to get the car started on a remote start (not the ignition), but still could not start the car through push button when I got home. I ended taking the car into a Chevy dealer and they said the steering column lock sensor was damaged. They said this could happen if battery was hooked up wrong or if the car was improperly jumped to start it.

No remorse from Greulich's, no apologies, just a bunch of excuses. They have my car for 3 hours on a battery swap and say they caused no damage? Give me a brake. Take your car elsewhere.

In response to the complaint we will be happy to reinstall the customers catalytic converters we still have the old parts. However the customer must understand the vehicle will not run properly the catalytic converters are plugged up and won't let exhaust pass through them properly. We would be...

happy to show the customer, and if he's not completely satisfied the units are bad we will reinstall them and refund his money.

thanks [redacted]

I've already sent them emails which they have...

ignored requesting reimbursement.  If he agrees to refund my payment just have him send a check to my home address which I've previously provided and will do so again.  My home address is [redacted].  I don't want to go through the process of trying to get a hold of him again only to have my attempts ignored.
Thanks,

We will send a check to the listed address.
Thanks John J[redacted]

The catalytic converter was definitely bad, the test we use is an exhaust back pressure test. Over time converters fall apart causing the small passages to clog with debris. This restricts the exhaust system not letting exhaust gases easily flow-through the exhaust system. In most cases you should not have had over 1 1/2 pounds per square inch of exhaust back pressure. When the exhaust back pressure gauge was installed in your engine was it operating temperature your vehicle pegged the gauge. There was no doubt catalytic converter was plugged.

Distributors provide spark, a malfunctioning distributor can lead to a catalytic converter failing. Excessive hydrocarbons can overheat the catalytic converter causing the breakdown of the catalyst inside and leading to high exhaust back pressure, this was more than likely the cause of the catalytic converter failure. Initially or distributor was bad, which led to the catalytic converter failing.

I hope this helps you understand.

In some cases when we move the hose to replace the compressor they leak after the repair it's an 11-year-old piece of rubber and sometimes they crack on the inside. Unfortunately when you replace the compressor there's no way to not move the hose. MSRP list on the hose is $300 I will be happy to replace the hose at $223 plus tax we will do the labor at no charge and not charge for refrigerant.
We hope this will resolve this issue please contact me if you have any questions at [redacted]. Thanks John

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The converter was not the cause of the problem as was shown on the third visit where it states that the distributer from the first visit was faulty. The second visit I was told it was the converter that was the problem. But, the car had the same problem immediately after it was installed. The car broke down again on the freeway and had to be towed back to them. after repairing the faulty distributer the car ran fine. They were told to only fix the sputtering problem and not to repair every worn part in the car.

Be careful! Cheap price for oil change, is a big trap. I had gone here for a basic oil change. They recommended, to change alternator and serpentine belts immediately (as the belts were dried out) and overcharged me 190$ (includes tax + parts + labor). Literally rip me off. Split-up of 190$, (1) Labor per hour $100 + (2) Parts $80$ + (3) Tax. When inquired with other auto service providers, the avg cost of alternator and serpentine belts replacement with labor, parts & tax came around 120$ Their markup prices of parts are 110% more than the retail price. Alternator and serpentine belts on [redacted] ~35$, but charged me for $80. Be careful with these guys (especially if you are going to deal with Mr.[redacted]). If they sense you are novice, then they will definitely try to rip you off. Strategy is to, offer oil change for comparatively cheap price to trap the customers. Just do the oil change, would not recommend for any other service.

As loyal customer of almost "4 years" (Scott the manager was quick to point out) I'm writing this review today to warn you of the shady work done at this shop as well as the dishonesty of well you guessed it, Scott himself!

Our first experience here was with our Escape when we took it in for an oil change. My husband having met Scott believed he was of good trustworthy character and so we decided this was our go to mechanic.

After buying an Explorer that just had the transmission replaced a couple months prior to purchase we had a few issues. We take it up to Greulichs where low and behold we have to replace the transmission, hmmm should have been our first clue. Let's just say this shop is in no hurry to get your car back to you. Scott had us bring him "cash" only to buy the used transmission. After two weeks without having our car Scott was just so gracious to supply us with a rental vehicle for 3 days which barely fit our family of 5. Finally after picking up our Explorer we're told we need to replace hoses, harmonic balancer, bearings, radiator and God only knows what else. Well several hundreds of dollars later we've replaced everything this shop has suggested needed replaced. Go figure that after every repair something else was broken. Oh let me just say we sold this vehicle still needing repairs suggested from this shady mechanic.

Later. We purchased an RV that needed a new ignition. Oh figure the steering column had to be replaced as well. Guess again what Scott wanted us to bring. Yep, you guessed it! Cash to purchase parts. While the RV sits in the hood awaiting repairs we get the phone call that they cannot release the vehicle because the hoses and radiator have to be replaced. They cannot release the vehicle until it's done because it's too dangerous. Sound familiar? We'll stop there with the RV complaints, dishonest diagnoses and lies from Scott.

We took our Escape back up to the shop for an oil change. Here we get a whole list of mechanical issues on a car that has never had any issues. Two of the issues were a brake booster and o2 sensors. As usual we were able to supply the parts or I'm sure cash would have been happily accepted. Needless to say, the brake booster was put in half assed and by gully the 02 sensors were incorrect. However this didn't stop the shop from charging us full labor for replacing both parts.

Now our cruise control doesn't work along with a list of incomplete work that should have been done while replacing the brake booster.

We contacted the shop and were told by Scott to bring the car up to be checked. Upon arrival we were told they could no longer afford us as customers, they aren't refunding any money they incorrectly charged and they are not fixing the issues. Quoted out of Scott's mouth..." We don't know the cruise control wasn't working. We don't drive the cars to check". Well that's a little scary you don't drive the cars to check for your own errors. Or is it because it's easier to rape your customers for more money in the already poor job you've done.

Luckily for us, I was smart enough to keep those hand written receipts from Scott for cash we've brought there and all my maintenance receipts. So upon being told we've spent less than $300 there in "almost 4" years is a load of BS!

Don't think the VP is of any help. He's full of hot smoke too. I'll happily be writing to the Revdex.com and leaving my review on every possible site to help future victims of this dirty, lying and over all crooked shop!

I have personally visited the shop where this faulty work was done in January 2016. They have all of the required documents including...

copies of our receipts from World Ford in Pensacola where the repair work was accomplished.

Please email me the receipt for the work done at the dealer so I can possibly help you with charges.

Review: In November 2012 I had my Honda CR-V towed to Greulichs Automotive on Ina Road in Tucson Arizona because it was the closes autoshop to me. It took them a day and a half to inspect it and determine I needed the timing belt, component kit and water pump replaced and promised it would be as good as new, so I gave the go ahead. Two days later they call me back and told I need to replace the head gasket and have a valve job done due to low compression in cylinder #3 and again promised this would guarantee my car would be as good as new because after this would be done I would basically have a new engine. Again, because I trusted them to be honest mechanics, I gave the go ahead.

Well they were not honest people and my car has done nothing but given me trouble since they "fixed" it. It has heated up continuously and the check engine light comes on all the time. I have taken it back in to Greulichs Automotive 2 - 3 times for these issues and they still are not fixed. I called [redacted] at Greulichs corporate office before filing a complaint through the Revdex.com. He had my car towed to his Golflinks location to take a look at it and all they did was change the thermostat (for the third time, this fix only would last about one week before it heated up again). When I called him back the next day, he asked if the car heated up on my way home. I said no, but the check engine light was still on. He said "As long as they fixed the heating problem that was his main concern, as for the check engine light, I should take it into an autozone to have a diagnostic done on it". I told him I had, many times and the errors were cylinder misfires. The guys at autozone told me to take it back to the Greulichs because it had to do with the work they did. [redacted], basically told me there was nothing they could do because the warranty was now expired.

I had no choice but to take it to another mechanic, the car still heats up and the check engine light still comes on. Upon his inspection, the new mechanic told me that it looks as if they did not actually replace the head gasket. It looks to him like they tried to just seal it instead of replacing it. After I told the mechanic how long I have been dealing with these same issues and Greulichs Automotive, the mechanic called [redacted] to discuss his findings and Mr. [redacted] wouldn't even listen or discuss it with him, he said the warranty was up and that was it.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of everything I have paid them ($2,292.73) so I can pay an honest mechanic to do the job that Greulichs Automotive obviously didn't do. I am a single mother of two and do not have the kind of money they were asking for, but because they guaranteed the car would be fixed, I took out an extremely high interst rate title loan on the car to pay for these repairs because I need a reliable car to get me to work and the kids to school.

Response:

[redacted] my district manager contacted [redacted] to get the vehicle back in she agreed. We always try to the best we can to accommodate every customer even when the vehicle is out of warranty. The customer is having an engine light issue for reasons unknown at this time. We will attempt to satisfy [redacted]. Thanks [redacted] ###-###-####

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.1. I did not agree to take my car back to Greulich’s, I told Mr. [redacted] I wasn’t sure and he was insisting that I take the car back and he gave me his number to call him when I planned on doing so.2. It is almost a year since Greulich’s first worked on my car, and since then I have had continuous issues with it due to the work they performed. Since Greulich’s worked on my car, the check engine light comes on and off, it over heats if I don’t add water and coolant every day, and if I have been driving it for a while and turn it off it won’t turn on for a half an hour to an hour. I tried numerous times to get a number to Greulich’s Corporate office from the Ina and Golflink’s locations. They gave me the run around by transferring me to the other store (if I called the Ina location I was transferred to Golflink’s location and vice versa). I did not get the corporate office number until I went online to file a complaint with the Revdex.com, it was listed there and that’s when I finally got in contact with Mr. [redacted].3. Greulich’s had many opportunities to do the job and make it right, but they chose otherwise. Mr. [redacted] speaks as though he had never heard of the issues I have been having with the check light engine, but I told him just as I told Mr. [redacted] that the check engine light was due to misfiring’s in the second and third cylinders, a direct result of the work performed on the car.4. I don’t believe Greulich’s is a reputable company as Mr. [redacted] repeatedly kept saying during our conversation. I do not trust Greulich’s will do the work that was guaranteed almost a year ago. 5. See attached letter from ** Auto regarding his findings.

Response:

1. In a phone conversation with [redacted] did agree to bring the car back. As a reputable company we agreed to work on the vehicle at no charge even though it's out of warranty. The vehicle has exceeded 12,000 miles since the original repair. We initially worked on the vehicle at 162,310 miles. The last time we worked on the vehicle it was that 175,092 miles the vehicle has been driven 12,782 miles since the initial repair.2. As for her check engine light, the check engine light can go on for many reasons we are working on a 2001 Honda approaching 180,000 miles. As vehicles get older they become more problematic. Our offer stands we will look at the vehicle at no charge to correct anything we've done wrong. Our company strives to accommodate every customer. Last time [redacted] had an issue we tow the vehicle from her house free of charge and repaired it. Our company if given the chance will correct any issues with her car pertaining to the repairs performed by Greulichs.3. Our offer stands, if you [redacted] brings the car back we will attempt to correct any issues with our repair at no charge. We have two locations in the Tucson area. As it stands the vehicle is out of warranty. However, the vehicle would have to be repaired at a Greulichs facility moving forward. As a company in good standing with the Revdex.com for many years we do try to correct situations with unsatisfied customers. I hope you [redacted] will work with us to correct this issue. Thanks [redacted] VP Greulichs automotive ###-###-####

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

First of all, I am 100% certain I did not agree to take my car back to Greulich’s. If you look back and review my initial complaint, it clearly states:“Desired Settlement: RefundI would like a full refund of everything I have paid them ($2,292.73) so I can pay an honest mechanic to do the job that Greulichs Automotive obviously didn't do….” From the very beginning of this process, it has never been my intention to take my car back to Gruelich’s. My car does have a lot of miles on it, but I have never had the problems I have had since Gruelich’s worked on it. As previously stated and backed up by a letter from another auto shop, the check engine light is a direct result of the work performed by your “reputable” company, nothing else is causing the check engine light to turn on.Second, you did have my car towed at your expense to your other location, but only after you (Mr. [redacted]) asked me if I had Triple A towing service so that you can get a better rate. What does that say for your reputable company? Taking my money for shoddy work wasn’t enough that you also wanted me to get you a discount on the towing? Have I requested reimbursement for the continued inconvenience your company has caused me because of the horrible work your “best guy” did to my car? A reputable company would accept responsibility not pass it off to the customer.Third, Mr. [redacted] both you and [redacted] continually say Greulich’s a “reputable company”, I’m not sure if you are trying to convince me or yourselves but reputable companies don’t have to keep repeating over and over that they are a reputable company, the work reputable companies produce speaks for itself and in this particular case the work performed by Gruelich’s definitely says otherwise. It is sad that a company has blinders and do not hold their employees accountable for their actions. Not only do you Mr. [redacted] have to worry about the shoddy work your “best guys” at your Tucson shop locations are producing in Gruelich’s “good” name, but you also needs to worry about the dishonestly of your district manager.Regards,[redacted]

Review: I got my AC fixed and had a complete replacement of the entire unit . I paid over 1000 for it and am still paying it off . After they replaced this they guaranteed it would fix my problem . This got done right before winter so shortly after the fix I wasn't using the AC . I then check it now to find it is not working again . I brought it into another greulichs ( the one in MESA ) to check on why . Now they say its another hose leak that is not " covered " under the warranty from the kit I got beforehand and need to pay another 250 on top of the additional amount I am already paying ? They had tested the leak with dye before the fix and did not find this ? This should have been found the first time around when they were checking and been fixed when I asked for it the first time . Not I am not sure if I need the 1000+ fix at all from beforehand .Desired Settlement: I want the part replaced and AC COMPLETELY fixed free of charge since I have already paid a lot of money to get it fixed the first time around . The Greulichs I went to today offered to put in the part for me if I bought it directly but that is still TOO MUCH MONEY . I want my AC fixed .

I took my car in for a window regulator. First they quoted 270 but when I picked up the car they tried to charge me 500. I would not pay and somehow the price dropped again. They even added some charges to the bill they could not explain.

Then I got into my car and the power steering was shot. I could not even turn the steering wheel. I told them about it and they accused me of trying to get free service.

Avoid these guys they are gonna break thing on your car so you go back to them for repairs.

Review: My car was taken there for engine light issue. They repaired my car and said it was all fixed. No it wasn't cause my engine came back on. Took it back and they said okay it is fine now. Nope it was not not, my engine light came back on again. So I took it in again. This time they said I need a new manifold and admitted they didn't fix the problem the 1st time. The manager Jay Aroyya said he would refund me the labor $409.00. I called 2 weeks later to check on the check, and the new manager Chris Boling said he will take care of it. He talked to the VP of Greulich's. I never heard back from him. Called him 3 days later and said why didn't you call me back? Well we are not refunding your money, but we want to make you a deal on the part you need for your car. That was hurtful and sad cause I charged that repair on my mother's credit card, and they knew the car didn't get fixed in the 1st place. I want my refund.Desired Settlement: I went to this place before and spent $800.00 on a repair. Then to go back thinking I can trust them by being a repeat customer. No, they go and do me wrong!!!

On November 2 [redacted] brought his 2005 Chrysler 300 to Greulichs due to engine running rough and a check engine light. We found the system to be lean and a P0174 code system to lean. After checking it with a smoke machine we found several very large leaks the EGR gasket was leaking and the crankcase hose was split. These are leaks that had to be fixed on this model the intake was removed to gain access to the leaking components. The vehicle ran much better after these leaks were repaired. The vehicle still needs a new intake manifold assembly. There are components in this manifold that are starting to fail due to the high mileage of the vehicle 194,000 miles were on the vehicle when we made this repair. Due to all the vacuum leaks and high mileage we follow best practice and repaired the leaks we could find first. We were unaware of this bad component during the time of repair. After re-inspecting the vehicle for a check engine light we found the manifold needed to be replaced. We offer to do the job at no cost labor and our cost on the part. This part failed due to high mileage not negligence on our part and we feel this is a fair offer. The car does run much better than when it came in. The only thing we did wrong in this case was not recommend the manifold when we had it off to replace the leaking gaskets that were causing the engine to run rough. We would be happy to replace the manifold at no charge labor and sell the part at our cost. Please feel free to contact me at ###-###-#### thanks [redacted]

Review: Hello,

I had my car in the Greulich's [redacted] location for the first time on 4/3/2014 for a engine "surging" issue which occurred when traveling at over 50 MPH. The problem was not diagnosed and I was charged $106.32 when I picked up the car on 4/8/2014. The problem continued and I brought it back on 4/17/2014 and was told it was a clogged catalytic converter system which I was charged $1231.31 for when I finally was able to pick up the car on 4/23/2014. The problem continued after $1337.63 in charges so I took it to another shop and they fixed the problem with an $88 part in about 2 hours. Since the repair by the other shop the car is running normally again. I did not need the $1231.31 repair so I am unwilling to pay for this.Desired Settlement: $1231.31 credit on card used on 4/23/2014.

The vehicle did not operated properly after the new catalytic converter system was installed so how does Gruelich's want to explain that? The entire problem was solved with a new TPS sensor which was supposed to be tested by the business and obviously was not.

Response:

The catalytic converter was installed because it failed a back pressure test. Your vehicle had almost 5 pounds of back pressure before the converter, this indicates the catalytic converter is plugged. My staff showed you your-old catalytic converter. We will be happy to reinstall your old converter. We will then refund you for the part not the labor. Your old converter is definitely bad you can come down to our store and we will be happy to show you. [redacted] and I both left messages for you to call us. I have not received a phone call.

If you have any questions please call [redacted] at [redacted]
