Highway Toll Administration Reviews (54)

Review: I rented a car from [redacted] Rent a Car on a recent trip in January 2015 to [redacted] and that was a fine experience. In reviewing my recent credit card statement I see charges from [redacted] Rent A Car Tolls for $18.12 and $1.50. I called [redacted] Rent A Car and they weren't aware of these charges but refer me to [redacted]. I see that [redacted] is affiliated with a company called Highway Toll Administration,LLC out of [redacted]. I sent an email to them to inquire about the charges and ask about a credit. A gentlemen by the name of [redacted] sends me a nasty response almost talking down to me referencing the rental agreement saying that I agreed to use the etoll machine in the rental car and there is nothing they can do but apologize for the inconvenience. I didnt use the etoll machine in fact I paid all tolls with coins and cash. Why would I do that if I was using this service I mean scam. I did encounter a unmanned toll booth when I first got off the highway and instead of running the toll I backed up on the shoulder and reentered the highway and went down the road and found a toll booth with live human beings and paid the toll and obtained $5.00 in quarters to avoid any future problems. I also called [redacted] and explained the situation and they marked the file and said that they didnt see any charge as I didnt go thru the unmanned booth. I am a law abiding citizen who is a responsible person and pays my bills but I refuse to pay this charge for services I didn't not want or authorize. This company conveniently doesn't have email addresses or phone extensions for the employees who respond as they are hoping to take advantage of people. The funny thing in the rude email I received from [redacted] he references these charges in the rental terms and conditions. I still have the rental terms and conditions from [redacted] and there is no reference of these charges or this scam of a service. This company are predators and look to take advantage of people and I am not going to be taken advantage of. As a lifelong resident of [redacted], I am appalled by there business practices and sad to see they are from [redacted] as well because they give the State of ** a bad name. By reading other complaints I see I am not alone in my frustration with this company.Desired Settlement: I want my credit card credited the $19.67 and for this company to stop taking advantage of hard working people.

Response:

[redacted], Thank you for taking the time to contact [redacted], it is always a pleasure to serve you.We show that the toll(s) in question were incurred on a cashless toll road. On cashless toll roads there is no area to pay by cash, all toll booths have been removed. Instead, there is an overhead gantry which scans the vehicle as you pass underneath, and charges the account registered to the vehicle. As a courtesy for this miscommunication we have issued a credit in the amount of $19.67 to your account. Unfortunately, since a dispute by your bank has been applied I am unable to complete the credit request.Once your bank removes the dispute I can complete the credit transaction.I have also shared your concerns with [redacted] and reviewed the appropriate manner in which he should correspond with customers.I am sorry that you have been inconvenienced, and I sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.Thank you for choosing [redacted] for your rental needs.Sincerely,[redacted]Highway Toll Administration, LLC

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved. While I don't agree with there business practices and still believe it to be a scam I will accept the response and move on. I have warned people about this experience and told the story many times. I am still disgusted they are a [redacted] company and give [redacted] a bad name.

Sincerely,

This place is lame and should be investigated by Revdex.com. They have a lousy website to pay (it doesn't work) and when you call they say their computers are down and the would call back when they were back up again. They never called.

So looking on [redacted] I see others who have experienced the same thing. It's a very misleading company and they just try to stall your payment so they can charge more.

Awful and the face they proudly show your Revdex.com logo at the bottom doesn't make Revdex.com all that trustworthy if you can't even monitor this sort of scamming.

Review: I rented a car from Avis in San Francisco. When I inquired about payment of tolls, the agent verbally informed me they offered a $2.95 convenience fee plus the $7.00 Golden Gate Toll. I verbally agreed to this amount. I received an itemized receipt from Avis Etolls which states the toll fee is $7.00 for the Golden Gate Bridge and the toll convenience fee is now $15.80 which is $3.95 per rental day. I rented the car for 4 days so they charged me $15.80 for a toll covenience fee. I emailed Avis Etolls to inquire about the discrepancy between the amount explained to me by the Avis agent in San Francisco and the amount listed on the receipt. Upon closer inspection of the Avis Etoll website it said the convenience fee is $2.95/rental day. To the customer ( in this case me) there is an obvious discrepancy between the amount that was stated to me by the Avis agent in San Francisco and the amount that is listed on the Avis Etoll website and also the amount listed on my itemized receipt. After enquiring with Avis etolls about the discrepancy, they apologized for the misinformation and stated their toll information was listed in the rental jacket. I have reviewed the rental jacket and I see no information in it stating the convenience fee is actually $3.95/rental day. If I had known this was the amount I was to be charged, then I would have refused this service and purchased the toll another way.Desired Settlement: I request Avis to honor the original verbal agreement that was made between myself and the agent in San Francisco. I agreed to the $7.00 Golden Gate Bridge toll and a $2.95 convenience fee. The total should have been $9.95. I am requesting a refund in the amount of $12.85 for the convenience fee that I consider to be a hidden charge and misleading. There was no clear, written information provided to me at the time of rental that said what the rental convenience charge really should have been.

Response:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me, it is always a pleasure to serve you.

After careful review of your e-toll account history as a one-time courtesy I have issued a credit in the amount of $15.80 (entire service fee) to your account.

You can expect to see this credit back on your credit card within the next 5-7 business days.

As seen on the E-toll website [redacted]

In the state of California simply drive through a designated Fastrak transponder based lane, and swing open the transponder box located on the windshield. If you use e-Toll, you will be charged a $3.95 convenience fee for each day of the rental, including any day on which e-Toll is not used, up to a maximum of $16.75 per rental month, plus incurred tolls at the cash rate. Toll charges will be billed separately to the same credit card used for the rental. There is no charge for Avis e-Toll unless you use it.

This rate change took affect on 12/**/13 after your September rental when the fee was $2.95.

I am sorry that you have been inconvenienced, and I sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while I reviewed your concerns.

Should you require any additional information please feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks,

Review: Basically this company has placed inaccurate charges on my credit card that was used to charge a rental car from Budget Rental Car Services. I know for a fact that this is a lie bieng that I rented the car from March **, to April **, 2014. I stayed in New Orleans the entire time the route you take is I-10 all the way there and back, I've rented numerous cars in the past from Budget and went the same route and never have I veered off to some unknown highway called [redacted] , I researched this company and other customers have filed a number of complaints against this company for the exact same isssue which is inaccurate winding up on your credit card statement . I tried speaking with someone at Budget car rental however due to this company that bills for the tolls, being a third party they cannt do anything about the charges.Desired Settlement: I just want a refund, being that it should have never been there in the fist place.

Sincerely,

Review: My problem is that this "Highway Toll Administration", which sounds like it's some government entity, has charged me through [redacted] a fee of which I was not made aware. I was charged $3.95 for every day up to a maximum of $16.75 for using a toll ONCE. It appears that there have been lawsuits regarding this activity in the past and I can see why. I was not made aware that the use of tolls would incur fees beyond that of the use of the toll. I called [redacted] and "[redacted]" said that their representatives are supposed to tell their customers, but no such awareness was made to me. This has all of the markings of fleecing the customer for more money and burying any indication of the charges in fine print.Desired Settlement: I request that the fee be refunded to me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: When I saw this charge on my recent CC statement, I called the company and spoke with [redacted] on the morning of August [redacted], 2014. I learned these charges were associated with a [redacted] car rental over the period of December**-**, 2013. I informed [redacted] that I did not use the tolls they have advised on these dates. I requested that [redacted] provide me the contract # and specific section of the signed contract showing my agreement to this service. I also requested evidentiary proof that my rental car was used the toll service they have claimed. [redacted] responded with the email attached on August **, 2014. In the email she cannot provide my signed agreement to this service, merely mentioning that it is on the rental jacket that “should” have been provided to me. This jacket, if even provided to me, is given AFTER the rental contract has been signed and in itself does not meet the “meeting of the minds” element of contractual law, and does not indicate acceptance of those terms. She did not provide any evidence of my use of the tolls, suggesting I contact the toll company directly. I called [redacted] and received the actual signed contract, there is clearly no mention of the [redacted] service or explanation of charges or my acceptance of any such service. I called the toll company ([redacted]) in [redacted] and they could not provide evidence I used the toll from 2013 as it was “too old”. In addition, the [redacted]’s own service guidelines state that [redacted] charges will be collected up to 30 days past the rental. I assume this time frame is necessary so users can investigate the charges and respond appropriately. These charges are over 8 months old! I have also noted the numerous complaints from other renters indicating incorrect or even fraudulent charges associated with this company.Desired Settlement: Refund. This business should contact renters within 30 days of the end of rental period and give them an opportunity to dispute and/or research the charges. This business should also make sure that customers understand the terms of this service and fees/charges with their rental car company partners.

Review: This company made fraudulent charges on my credit card for rental car tolls that were not incurred by me. The itemized charges started before I picked up the car and also continued after I returned the car.Desired Settlement: Refund. An investigation into this company for what appears to be continued fraudulent credit card charges.

Sincerely,

Review: I received a charge on my credit card of $18.50 for toll activity in Florida. The toll was $1.75 and Budget etolls added a convenience fee of $16.75. In their explanation they indicate $3.95 per rental day, max $16.75 per rental month. I realize that this most likely is somewhere in the Contract fine print and probably nothing can be done at this point, but I think a reasonable set convenience is a better way to do it. I find a convenience charge of 960% to be gouging.Desired Settlement: A Refund in the amount of $12.80 as the per rental day rate is $3.95. ($18.50-$1.75-3.95=$12.80).

Review: On Novemeber 2013, I rented a car in Denver, CO from Fox Car Rentals to drive from Denver to my home in Orange County, CA. I was not advised or otherwise notified that there would be any sort of automatic toll charge, otherwise I would have taken a different route to avoid such unauthorized charges. On December **, 2013 I was charged $18.30 by the Highway Toll Administration, LLC.Desired Settlement: Because it was an unauthorized and unadvised charge, I seek a refund of $18.30 charge to my [redacted]s Card.

Review: I rented a vehicle from Budget rental car May 2015 from Thursday to Sunday. I was never told by Budget I would accumulate any toll fees. It is now August [redacted] and every two weeks I am getting fees for tolls that I have no proof of that were made by me. This has caused issues to my account and also caused me a huge headache. I need this isue resolved. It appers to be fraud unless I can be provided with pictures of the vehicle with those toll roads I believe it's fraud. there is no way I went through 5 tolls in one day. Worst customer service ever. What's really interesting is I can get a receipt after my account has been charged but unable to get a receipt prior to billing or notification. I have spoken with several reps who assured that was the last toll. This is the 4 time unknownly my account has been hit this is ridiculous and need to be researched.Desired Settlement: I want all my money back for the poor customer service, miss communication and errors caused to my account.

Response:

Hi, We have looked into this complaint and apologize to the customer for any inconvenience she has endured. We are issuing an additional credit of $3.95 for the convenience fees the customer was billed on the service. She had called our offices and received a prior credit of $7.90 on June *, 2015. The $3.95 is the difference for the convenience fees she was billed. We have also reached out to the toll road and requested for images of the vehicle going through the tolls. We will provide this to the customer as soon as we receive it. To clarify, we do not have control of when the toll roads send us the toll data. We bill the customer as soon as we receive the data from the toll road. Very rarely, there are delays in us receiving the information all together and that is why the customer got billed a few times.Highway Toll Administration

Review: I rented an [redacted] car Rental Agreement Number [redacted], Resrevation# - [redacted] picked up at [redacted] on ** July 2015, Sales Rep – ANNIE. I travelled I-95 from North Carolina to New York and return. I paid all Toll Charges with CASH. [redacted] billing showed that I was charged for EZPASS Tolls on The Virginia Prince Charles Pkwy, to include [redacted] e-Toll Convenience Fee. How am I, as an [redacted] customer, to protect myself when [redacted] rent-a-car person does not respect my wishes when renting an [redacted] car and provides a device on the [redacted] car that forces EZPASS to collect illegitimate charges, charges which should have not been incurred – since I paid CASH? I told the sales-person that I did not want the EZPASS device. That salesperson did not listen and still provided a car with the device. [redacted] is fostering illegitimate EZPASS charges when forcing a customer to rent a car with the unwanted active device.I addressed this issue to [redacted] on ** Aug 15 and received Case # [redacted]. A recent email (([redacted] Escalation Case # [redacted]))) stated ""Your Toll charges must be disputed through the issuing Toll Authority. No further action is to be taken by [redacted] Car Rental.""Desired Settlement: [redacted] caused this problem by keeping an unwanted device / accessory in the rental car. [redacted] should take action to have illegitimate charges Removed from my credit card

Review: Unauthorized visa card charge of $78.98 for tolls on a renter car that I did not have. I used my visa card for a one time payment on a return rental of one hundred eighty five dollars and some change on Oct.**,2013. In Nov.2013 my account was charged for tolls. I disputed the charges with Chase bank, Alamo sent Chase a copy of the contract which does not have my name on it. What Alamo did was put my visa card information on the chargeback notification, they did not have my name, address, or any other information only because I made a one time payment agreement by swiping my card. All of the information on that contract is under the name [redacted]. Not [redacted].Desired Settlement: I would like my $78.98 and the $34.00 NSF because I only had the money to pay what I had coming in on that account.

Review: I received a notice in the mail on 1/**/2015 from HTA due to the fact that they could not automatically charge my credit card. They claimed that I had received a toll violation on 7/*/2014 from a car that I had rented from FOX rental car. I had rented the car from 7/*/2014-7/**/2014. When I had called about the violation, they claimed that it happened at 4:29pm right after I had rented the car which was at 1:28pm. They said I received a fine for driving in a [redacted] which I came to find out are only on two freeways in LA, the 10 and the 101. The only freeway I had driven on that day was the 134 to go to [redacted]. HTA could not give me any proof of this violation other than the document they sent me in the mail, no photo of the plate or make of the car, nothing. I believe this is a bogus claim and that they are trying to extrapolate money from customers that have rented cars from FOX to make an extra fees. They not only waited over 6 months to send me the notice, so that I might forget, but also charged an $11.80 convenience on a .45¢ fine, which is a 26% markup. Because they automatically deduct this from your credit card without your knowledge and most people do not check their credit card statements, this is very easy to get away with. In order to protect my credit I am being forced to pay this fee and avoid any additional accumulative "late fees" of $10 per month. I have made numerous attempts to resolve this issue with both FOX and HTA, but haven't had any resolution in the matter.Desired Settlement: I would like HTA to waive this charge or be able to show me proof of the violation in question. Thank you.
