Review: I went to Honda City in Levittown on Sunday July **, 2015 for an appraisal on my wife’s 2008 Honda Civic. James T[redacted], a manager, sat down with me. He went on to describe how they are an honest dealership and they would make it a quick and easy transaction. After looking at the car and completing the appraisal, James came back and said they are willing to give me $8,000 - $8,500. I thanked him and left.

Later that day, I called him back and said I am ready to accept his offer of $8,500. He said he would call me right back. I never heard back from him and called him again on Monday, July **, 2015. He said I will call you right back. After not calling me back again, I sent him an email on Tuesday, July **, 2015 which was not returned. I called again on Wednesday, July **, 2015 and spoke to James and he said that they are willing to do $8,000, not $8,500. I asked if he would split the difference and do $8,250. He said he would call me right back after speaking with his boss. After not hearing back from him for a few hours, I decided to text him. He said they would do $8,000 in writing via text. I also accepted the $8,000 and we then worked on setting up a time to come down.

James said I needed to come down between Monday and Friday before noon in order to get a check the same day. Both my wife who is 7 months pregnant and I took time off from our jobs on Friday, July **, 2015 to go down to Honda to sell the car.

We got to Honda City at 10am as requested by James. He had a co-worker take the plates off of the car and make copies of my wife’s license, title, and loan pay off letter. After waiting about 35 minutes, James came over and had a question about the trim around the car doors. I went outside with him and his manager. The manager never introduced himself, but I believe it may have been the general manager Dennis B[redacted]. The manager asked me what was wrong with the trim around the door. I told him that the trim was fading and it has been like this for many years. He said he does not remember seeing that last Sunday. I told him the nothing has changed with the car since it was appraised 5 days ago. I even kept the car garaged to make sure it stayed in the same condition. He then got extremely defensive and angry for no reason. He then stormed off saying I don’t need to buy this car. I was completely shocked at his behavior and the lack of respect. I went back inside and I asked James what is going on? I said the car was already appraised on Sunday and the price was agreed to in writing. He also got very defensive and told me to get out of his store. I told him that I will be filing complaints and he replied sarcastically, “Ooh I am scared”. An associate put my plates back on the car.

Both my wife and I left extremely upset and confused by their unprofessional behavior and misleading sales tactics.Desired Settlement: I would like Honda City to honor their price and financially compensate us for taking time off of work. I would also like other potential customers to be aware of their misleading sales tactics.

Response:

[redacted] Dear [redacted], I am in receipt of the complaint made by [redacted].After questioning the employees involved and others who were a witness to theexchange I feel I can comment on the events described in the complaint.[redacted] came to Honda City to sell his car. The car wasappraised and we made an offer to purchase the car. [redacted] chose not toaccept the offer and left. There was some on the phone negotiating with ourstaff by [redacted] and eventually [redacted] decided to accept the originaloffer of $8,000 for his vehicle. The policy is that prior to purchasing a vehicle the carmust be reappraised. We do this to insure that the car is exactly as it waswhen we made our original offer. This of course only happens when a customer isnot accepting the original offer and selling us the car at the time theoriginal offer is made. This is done to protect the dealership from a car thathas sustained damage and/or has been physically changed from the time of theoriginal appraisal. For instance, an upgraded radio that is swapped out ormissing trim or wheels that are taken off. We never will blindly buy thevehicle without doing an appraisal at the time of sale. The appraiser felt that [redacted]’s vehicle was nowmissing some trim pieces that were there at the time of the original appraisal. When the appraisers were focusing their inspection on this area of the car [redacted] became very upset and when asked about the missing trim told theappraiser (Keith A[redacted], General Sales Manager) and told us that was ourproblem now.I do apologize if [redacted] was unhappy with anytreatment from our staff members. I have had a meeting to instruct them to makesure they are always clear and transparent with the purchase process withanyone who is trying to sell us a vehicle. But I also feel our policy on reappraisingany purchase at the time of sale is a fair policy. Consumers often do notrealize that the equipment on a vehicle, even equipment that is non-oem doesmake a difference as to the value of the car. A car needs to be exactly as weoriginally saw the car. A change in condition, equipment, miles or market conditionscan change the value of a vehicle. We would still be happy to purchase [redacted]’s vehicle, however we would need to appraise it again at the time of purchase. If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitateto contact me.Sincerely, Dennis B[redacted]General ManagerHonda City

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The statements made from Honda City about the missing trim (it is faded from the sun) and my comments when asked about it are inaccurate. There were absolutely no changes in the condition of the car during the 5 days from the original appraisal. Why didn’t Honda City take pictures of the car during the initial appraisal as other dealerships do? If this was done, there would have been no questions about the condition of the car changing. After thinking about my visit to Honda City, I believe they never had any intentions of giving me $8,000 for the car. According to several websites that give you your car’s value, this is the price I would expect to get for the car from a private party. My only regret through this process was not checking review websites like [redacted] When you search for negative reviews, you see the first 4 out of 5 negative reviews are about James T[redacted]. There is not even one positive review about him. It will now be the first 5 out of 6 reviews once I post my own.At this point I think going back and forth will not be productive if they continue with their inaccurate statements. My complaint should be posted on your website so educated consumers can decide for themselves if they want to do business with this dealership.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.Sincerely,[redacted] %

Review: I leased a 2015 Honda Civic from Honda City for my daughter(Katelyn Kearney). I gave them a check for $500.00 to cover taxes, DMV charges etc and was due a small refund($131.03). When I got the check and tried to cash it, the check bounced and was no good. The bank explained to me their account was hacked and that I had a bad check from Honda city.I tried to go back to the dealer to get an explanation and they didn't want to know me. They bounced an dpassed me from person to person and each one of them didn't want to even talk to me. The salesman(Rich and the Finance manager Jose) were terrible. They pretend to be your friend during the sale, then thy don't want to know you when you have a problem. Jose in particular was very mean spirited to me. They finally got me to a manager, who I must add, reeked from cigarette smoke. After he couldn't help me I left without a new check very disappointed. They all made this into a terrible experience. I called Honda Customer service in California who swore up and down on the dealer's side defending their actions. and said that they could not assist me against one of their privatley owned dealerships. They instructed me to go back to Honda and talk to the owner. I really do not want to go back there in person because of the way I was mistreated and abused by their staff.Desired Settlement: I would like Honda City to MAIL me a GOOD check (to my daughter Katelyn Kearney) for $1*1.0*. The date of the incident was Saturday October *,2015. I still have the bad check in my possession along with a copy. I have all financial records if you need to see them.

Response:

[redacted]Dear [redacted],I am in receipt of the complaint from [redacted]. Most of the facts stated by [redacted] are true. Honda

City was the victim of fraud on our checking account. The process with our bank

in this case is to close the account and reopen a new account. The check written

to [redacted] did not bounce but it is true the bank refused the check and

directed him back to the dealership. While our staff does not recall him coming

in about a check, it is possible that they were not all aware of the fraud on

the account as this is something that would be handled through the accounting

department. [redacted] did contact the vehicle manufacturer who

contacted us and directed the customer to bring in the refused check and we

will replace it with a new check. Possible they did not relay this to him. But have him come

in anytime Monday to Friday, 9am to 4 pm and we will cut a new check on the

spot for him.Sorry for the inconvenienceIf I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate

to contact me.[redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Review: I brought my vehicle in due to a no start issue which there is a recall on vehicle. When I go pick the vehicle up the service rep [redacted] stated we tested your battery and every thing passed . I told him I'm sure the battery is bad but he stated it was fine. When left the Honda City I checked the battery and the positive battery cable was half way off the battery. I went back in to [redacted] and told him my battery cable is loose He came out looked at it and stated we did not do that. I told him you had my vehicle for several hrs checking the battery at honda city damaged my vehicle. After that I left with them doing nothing for me and drove about 2 miles and I shut the vehicle off to go to the store. When I went to start the vehicle would not start. There was a gas station across the street and they came over and tested the battery and stated the battery was bad and the positive terminal needs to be replaced. This was not even 5 min. After leaving the dealership where they told me everything is fine. I was able with help to push the vehicle across the street to the gas station and was charged $234.75 for a new battery and positive terminal. This vehicle is under warranty plus I also have the extended warranty. The battery and the terminal that was broken by them should have been covered.Desired Settlement: I would like my $234.75 that I should never had to pay when this vehicle is under warranty

Response:

[redacted] I have reviewed the complaint from [redacted] and want toaddress his concerns. He states that he brought his car to Honda City becausehe had a no start condition with the battery. However, since he did drive thecar in I am assuming this was a condition that only happened sometimes. Honda Citydid test the battery and found that the battery was in good health. A batterytest is done by placing a clip on both the positive and negative terminals andgetting a read out from the Honda Battery test machine. The machine then willtell of the batteries health and strength. This is a factory testing devisethat is designed for the Honda vehicles. The test for this car came back as agood battery. At no time in doing this test did we remove or disconnect thebattery from the vehicle. [redacted] then claims that after leaving with the car heparked it and it would not start at all. It sounds like this battery has acracked or bad inner terminal. I can’t obviously tell for sure without seeingit but for a battery to start fine when he picked up the car, and then have ano start condition it must be that there is no electrical current. [redacted] states that he was 2 miles away from the servicecenter when this no start condition occurred. I am not sure why he did notcontact us so that we could have examined the car as it was having the problem.Instead, he went to a gas station. He had the vehicle looked at by non-Hondatrained mechanics and purchased a new battery. While the new car warranty andextended service contracts specifically do not cover batteries, if there was adefect in the battery we would have contacted Honda on his behalf to see if an exceptioncould be made. We would have then held the battery and returned it to Honda, sothey could see the defect and approve the warranty repair. Since the intermittent no start condition was the reason [redacted] brought the car to us originally, there is no way we could have causedthe problem as he states. Honda City certainly did not break the battery whichapparently had problems before we even looked at the car. When the problemoccurred almost immediately after picking up the car only 2 miles from theservice center, we were neither contacted norgiven the opportunity to try and help him with a warranty claim with AmericanHonda. Therefore this is not a cost that we would be able to reimburse. If you have any other questions on this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact me.Sincerely,

On ** November I was shopping for a car at Honda City.

A "Finance Manager" tried the slam dunk type of sales pitch on me. He refused to give me a copy of his price quote. I took a picture of the price quote. The mannerism of the Fiance Manager was unprofessional so I walked out and told the sales folks that they need to teach him how to speak to customers. The supposedly Finance Manager said to me" [redacted]".

This is the most vulgar experience in all my years of shopping.

The behavior was objectionable abominable, disgusting, repulsive, repellent, repugnant, revolting, abhorrent, loathsome, detestable, odious, vile, foul, sickening and nauseating.

Honda City Management and owners can do well with recruiting the proper people to work there.

Review: I received a phone call from a Honda City [redacted] about doing a key to key exchange of my 2012 Honda Accord to a new 2015 Honda Accord. He said they would make the final payments left on my lease if I did a deal before the end of the month. I told him that sounded great but I was over the mileage on my present lease and if they paid that I would do the new car agreement. I asked my brother to call to make sure that this was accurate. My brother spoke to [redacted] and then I agreed to go in to the dealership and have them check out my car and see the agreement for the new 2015. I signed a Customer declaration page and odometer disclosure page claiming that the car was not damaged and that the mileage was accurate. The understanding and agreement was that this was a key to key exchange and that there were no additional charges since I explained to them I only wanted to do a new car deal if there were no additional charges on my mileage. They deceived me. They were very dishonest and took advantage of me. I have purchased 7 cars from them over the years and now live on a small pension and social security. I fee; cheated.

I received a bill from honda for $3,079.77 which includes over mileage and lease payments, which both were supposed to be taken care of.

I called the dealership and they said there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to the [redacted] and response I got was that they were a billion dollar car dealership and the [redacted] was on a yacht somewhere. They they immediately dropped what I owed to $2000.00. This is not a settlement it is shut up money for their deceptive practices. I asked to have the [redacted] call me and the [redacted] said he doesn't talk with customers. I am very upset and considered my self a good customer of this dealership. I have also recommended other people to purchase form this dealership in the past. Not sure what happened to Honda city but their sales practices are horrible and they dont tell the truth.Desired Settlement: I want them to live up to the agreement and take care of my payments and mileage.

Review: I purchased a 2007 Honda civic sedan for my daughter who is a college student, wtithin a month of purchasing the car the driver side speaker completely went dead, was promised by [redacted] that this would be taken care of, did not hear from him for almost a month, called back since I realized so much time had passed and the situation changed, he said they were not going to fix it anymore, than I asked to speak to a manager and that's when [redacted] got on the line and pretty much told me that there is no way they were fixing the speaker even though it went dead within a month of buying the car and that it was promised by [redacted] almost prior, the professionalism went out the window and was given a really rude attitude as if we did not even purchase the car from the dealership .Desired Settlement: All I want is for my daughters speaker to be changed, this is her first car and she has been really upset about it, it is a simple fix but it is also the principle as to why this large dealership cannot honor something that was promised. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Business

Response:

[redacted] did purchase a 2007 Honda on May **, 2013. The car was delivered with everything in working order, and was delivered with a standard 60 day and 3,000 mile limited warranty. The customer of this vehicle was provided this on the delivery of the vehicle.

The radio speaker, which was working when the vehicle was delivered, is not a covered part on the limited warranty. A speaker does not have any moving parts and the only way a speaker can become damaged is through some sort of physical damage to the speaker itself.

I have spoken to the salesperson, and no promise of repair was made. What was said was that they would check with their manager. When the customer's father spoke with the sales manager, the customer was hostel and used profane language to the manager. when the sales manager was explaining what was or was not covered under the limited warranty.

There is not any coverage for this repair.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

It is unbeleivable that a manager of such a large establishment would blantantly lie, this was promised to me by the sales person, in his own words "since this is under $100 they will be able to fix thie without any issues", then he stated I used profanity, what a bold face lie, they were rude to me and if anything by me refraining from using profanity should be applauded. I will not except this. I insist the sales person honor his word.

Sincerely,

I went in interested in a Honda Pilot. Discussed all details with the salesperson Rich. We left b/c they didn't have the car I wanted, couldn't agree on price and I wanted to see other cars before I made a decision. I started getting calls the following week from a bunch of people other than Rich asking me why I left and telling me they can now meet our price and that they are bringing in a car from NJ for me. I was getting calls on a daily basis. Then we had a blizzard and everything was shut down. I called after the blizzard and left a message for Rich and never got a call back. So we went into the dealership to see the car they brought in for me. It was a busy day for the dealership so Rich referred us to James, who introduced himself as one of the managers. We told James the situation and he apologized for no one returning my call and proceeds to tell us the silver car they brought in has been sold. Which didn't really matter because they brought in a silver car but at no point did we tell them we wanted silver. He then says that he will call us tomorrow to go over details and that he has a black one coming in from NJ. We thought great black is the color we prefer. Well that was about 2 weeks ago and we NEVER heard back from James. This place offers terrible customer service.
