Local Motion Reviews (%countItem)

They gave me an estimate but then charged more than double the amount that was estimated and they charged me random amounts over a three day span. They also broke several items, chipped up my door, had a hole in their truck so my t.v., mattresses, box springs and several other items were ruined, and some items never to be found (or stolen). They had me file a claim on each item only to tell me they would only refund me $157.00 for all the items that were damaged and stolen. Then they charged more fees to my card again.

Local Motion Response • Apr 02, 2019

To Whom It May Concern:

Local Motion understands that there were numerous issues on this customers move. We have spoken to the customer and acknowledged the damages as well as the other issues that were presented on the move. After the discussion Local Motion did see a service error in the performance and did refund an agreed upon compensation to the customers card on 3-26-19. I have attached a copy of the statement for you to be able to see that this credit has occurred.

Customer Response • Apr 02, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:While I appreciate that they acknowledge there were issues and errors with this service. The $1000.00 "credit" they say they gave me was for overcharging my debit card by almost $1500.00. The terms and pricing were set for the number of storages I had and what was to be moved out of the house which was estimated at $899.00, so I could understand if there were a few more items that were labeled as a "heavy items" which would lead to extra charges (these items cost $20.00 per heavy item and the driver said there was only 2 additional items that should be classified as that) so I am not sure how an additional $1500.00 was charged? They charged my debit card $2470.00 for a move that was estimated at $899.00 and then the gm called and said that should be a reasonable credit for the situation. I let him know I will accept that for now as this is a start but it's far from over for me. All of that was just for the excessive charges then you get to the damaged and stolen items such as a 52 inch t.v., rain soaked mattresses and box springs since there was a hole in the roof of the truck along with several other expensive items that were damaged or taken and they tell me they could only refund me $157.00 for all of it. Their reasoning for this was they cannot pay more than the state statue or they can get in trouble. I am not happy with the credit as this only compensated part of the overcharges to my card so in total they have received $1570.00 for a move that was to cost $899.00. They are only giving me $157.00 for items damaged or stolen that will cost me well over $1000.00 to replace. This business is not someone I would recommend as there are several issues going on in several different departments in this company and my family paid the price for it.

Local Motion Response • Apr 24, 2019

Business response to consumer rejection:

The compensation offered was based on the coverage that was chosen with the move. This was the state standard coverage provided at no additional cost with the move. Th compensation has been credited back to the customers card.

There was not an “overcharge”. The cost was greater because there was a lot more items to be moved than we had originally been made aware of. This excessive amount beyond led to additional days and costs to complete the move. We understand that there was also issues on this move and therefore settled on compensation for the service issues. The claims are a sperate issue and have been handled accordingly. I have attached copy of our BOL for proof of coverage options. Covered in shaded area with details on back. The Team Leader covers the entire BOL with the customer and the customer is responsible for writing in the chosen coverage themselves for assurance.

Customer Response • Apr 24, 2019

I am rejecting this response because: This statement is false. I had to go over in detail how full my storage was and what items needed to be moved and list all heavy items to complete the estimate. The additional days that had to be added onto the move were because one of the trucks broke down so we had to reschedule when the second truck could deliver my items. Tony the rep. on the phone told me that I had to sign off on the paperwork in order for them to give me my items. I called Tony right away because they kept having me sign for additional charges and he assured me that we would straighten it out and get the charges refunded after the movers left and I had possession of my items. They have not given me any compensation for the hassle and have only refunded a portion of my overcharges. They also said they would refund me the measly $152.00 for the damaged and stolen items that they keep saying they have refunded which still have not. The staff members from the top down have lied, deceived, and stolen from me and I will continue to post reviews of why this company is not decent nor a legitimate company that people should use. I don't want anyone else to have to go through what I did to have them shrug off that someones property is worth nothing along with thinking they can over charge people and get away with it. I just recently had to purchase a new bed for my daughter since pieces were missing and home depot, lowes, nor ACE Hardware had items that would put this bed back together. This is just one example of what I am dealing with.

While moving my belongings from my one bedroom condo, Local Motion movers damaged furniture and their inexperienced crew took 12 hours to complete the move.
When I notified Local Motion sales rep Tony *** he offered to reduce the amount by 1.5 mover hours. He also directed me to damage manger Bill ***.

Mr., after receiving photos of damage and their completed damage forms agreed to reimburse me $180.00 for the damage. I mentioned the overage of hours and he sent me to Nate ***, their customer complaint officer. Nate promised to have both payments to me within 2 weeks.

My move was in July of 2018 - I have been contacting them repeatedly, first Mr ***, then Mr ***, then Mr ***. now all of them by email and phone. I also spoke with their HR representative regarding their lack of action.

Horrible customer service. They damaged my property on my move in August if 2018. After emails and phone calls not being returned, I was able to contact someone who could process the damage in March of 2019. 7 months of waiting and time wasted. I wouldn’t use them again. Additionally, stuff has gone missing from the move, but there is no way for me to prove it. So I chalk that up to a loss.

They were hired to move everything they left all my wife's clothes all the winter coats heavyweight silverware damaged electric blankets and mattress pads other items damaged did $1500 worth of damage and only going to pay us $42 unacceptable.

Local Motion Response • Apr 02, 2019

To Whom It May Concern:

Local Motion has reviewed the claims that were presented to us by Mr.. After reviewing the documentation it was determined that the Local Motion team cannot be held liable for many of the allegations presented to us. We apologize for the issue that occurred on Mr. move. However, we have statutes we must follow. The compensation that was offered are the appropriate amounts for the damages that were caused by the Local Motion crew. The team made him aware that they couldn't fit everything into the truck and some items would have to be left behind unless he wanted the crew to return to get the remaining items which he declined. Local Motion cannot be held liable for any items that we did not move nor can we compensate the customer when he chose to not have us return to get the items.

Customer Response • Apr 02, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:
this was not bought out by the time of the bid or the size of the truck you were hired to move everything your response is unacceptable pay me $700

you offered to go back and get the rest of the stuff that you would charge me extra money that is unacceptable you charge me is $1000 to move 30 miles

I will not recommend you to anybody you did a terrible job.

thank you *** and

Local Motion Response • Apr 24, 2019

Business response to consumer rejection:

We cannot be held liable for items that were not moved. The crew had offered to make a second trip or get another truck to move the remaining items and the customer denied this offer. Compensation has been offered based on the coverage for the item(s) that were caused during this move.

When we provide an estimate for a move, it is based on the number of items the customer informs us needs to be moved. If the actual number of items exceeds the original amount discussed, the move would then use more space and take a longer time as was the case here.

Yes, the extra trip would be extra cost as it would incur additional time. Had the number of items to be moved been communicated to us correctly, we could have sent an additional truck from the start to avoid this issue.

Customer Response • Apr 24, 2019

I am rejecting this response becautthey destroythose items before they were put on the truck so they are responsible also I gave the pitter all the information so that is a lie also you should a bought a semi-not a small truck you do not move a household with a small truck. You are hired to move everything no excuses.

also there should've been a supervisor, there was no one to supervise the people that were doing the work. They did $1200 worth of damage I would not recommend this company to anyone.you owe me $1200 no other offer will be accepted.

Don't use this company! They damaged every piece of furniture they moved of mine. Very unprofessional! One of the movers showed up in flip flops. They through my Box Spring down the steps damaging it too, but will not pay for that damage which I feel was done deliberately. I moved on 11-15-2018 and still haven't been paid the lousy $126.00 for all the damages. I get I only took out standard insurance. But this company is stalling in paying me the $126.00. I have a transit slip from sending pictures and claims in on December 6, 2018. I had sent previously by email and said they never got the email. On December 6, 2018 at 11:38a.m. they signed for the claims and photos. All I get from them is their sob story how short of staff they are. Buck up and pay me. When you short staff you work harder and get done. Local Motion is giving me a date of filing this claim in mid January. The transit slip proves they are stalling! They told me I will not see a check until March 15, 2019 or later. Really we are going out four months since the move date?

We hired Local Motion to move us on 12/01/2018. The movers were late, they sent 3 young boys to move a houseful of furniture less than 0.1 mile away (literally around the block). The boys were 19 and inexperienced. It took them way too long, they took their 15 minute break during the move. They damaged my refrigerator which was one year old and they broke the base of my kitchen table, the table was less than one year old. They gave me a figure of around $204 they would refund as compensation for the damage (replacing just the table cost close to $1000). In any case I was promised the refund in 30 business days. January 30, 2019 was 30 business days. I’ve been in contact with the merchant and now they say their office is down to 1 person and they have not processed my compensation. I am getting the run around. I definitely will never use this company again.

Local Motion Response • Apr 23, 2019

This compensation has been credited back to the customers card and these claims are now closed.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 13374963, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I received less than satisfactory service from this company on 11/30/2018 that resulted in an overcharge. After contacting the business via email on 12/3/18 regarding the issues, I received no response. It wasn't until I posted a public review on the company's Facebook page that they took action. A customer service rep contacted me on 12/5/2018 and agreed that the service was unsatisfactory and that a refund was due to me in the amount of $483.75. The rep stated that refund would hit my account soon, but it may be delayed due to the holiday season and that I may not see it until after 1/1/19. Since the first week of January I have attempted to contact the rep to inquire about my refund. I have received minimal response. On two occasions the rep told me viam email (once on 1/25/19 and again on 1/31/19) that it was delayed because the refund personnel was out of office for various reasons. On 1/31 the rep told me that I would receive word regarding my refund on 2/1. I did not receive any communication on 2/1. As of 2/4 the company has stopped responding. It has been 2 months since my initial communication with the company and I have yet to receive the refund that was promised to me totalling nearly $500.00.

Local Motion quotes to move my home at an estimated price of $265.00 Clock started when movers left their shop. Posted time is 7:30 a.m. I have time cell phone calls with movers at 9:15 A.M. Trip should have taken thirty minutes. Movers damaged my new home, walls & doors in several areas. Also claimed they didn't do the damage in a heated argument. My credit was used to place a deposit of $50.00 to hold my reservation date. My card was charged before I signed off on the Bill Of Lading & was told by the movers I would be contacted by their manager for damages & questions on the total price. I was not contacted that day (Saturday). I had to follow up & call Local Motion on the following Monday. Finley got in contact Tony Upton who could not help with my claims & sent me to Bill Whiteis. I sent pictures & claim forms to Bill. In a email reply from Bill, he said He could compensate my damages to my home $150.00 as that is their policy. I agreed. Bill couldn't help with my inal billing and sent my to Del Maos who I have trie to contact & have not received a reply. I sent an email asking Bill to confirm my agreement of compensation of damage & asked Del to contact me to discuss Bill Of Lading. Have not received any correspondence from either Bill or Del to date. Also, the mover that did all the damage was hurt, complaining of his back. these two movers two breaks during this move, one was always smoking, the other was resting his back.

If you are planning a move in the twin cities and surrounding area, DO NOT use Local Motion Moving Company of Maple Grove, MN. We used them 4 years ago to move us from our house into a temporary apartment and they were wonderful. We referred Local motion to many people.
We used Local Motion this September to move to our new Condo, this move was awful, the moving team was 3 hours late, which caused our move to be late into the condo building, and we received a large fine from the condo assn. for going past the elevator time. Now the move was only 2 blocks from our apartment.
The moving team was very careless with our possessions, many of which were antiques and expensive items. Our items were just thrown into large boxes which resulted in damage. 5 of our 6 solid cherry Queen Anne Dining chairs had there finish scraped off. One tiffany lamp base broken, a Waterford lamp broken, an antique side chair leg was broken off, an antique armoire had one of the inlaid wood panels broken, a Bombay chest had the finish scraped off, our new couch of 6 months had a large grease stain plus the welting on the back was torn, a gouge in our dining table, a large chuck of wood on our side boy taken off, our new wall to wall carpet of 3 days had 5 damage areas from sliding furniture across it.
We contacted Local Motion within 4 days and they sent there adjuster out, and after many calls they sent out there repair person, to look at the items.
To date, as of January 15th, Local Motion, has not responded or made compensation, after many unanswered calls.
Again DO NOT USE LOCAL MOTION moving company of Maple Grove, MN for your next move.

Please avoid using this company. I used them for a small local move and besides damaging our walls and our exercise equipment, they cracked our new cement driveway. I filed a claim and they blew it off. I thought they were a more reputable company vs all the others, but they are not. I could go into more negative details. I tried to work and reason with their claims department but to no avail. Now I see that their website has changed. Seems even more shady now. I treated their workers with respect, helped them carry stuff, bought them lunch and gave them a tip. Then when I noticed they cracked our driveway with their truck, I went through the claim process and they did nothing. Again, don't trust them and don't trust that if they damage your stuff that they will cover it, apparently they won't. Thanks.

Local Motion Response • Jan 03, 2019

To whom it may concern:
We never received claims for walls or exercise equipment from this move. Please submit these claims for review so we can handle them appropriately. We did receive a claim for a cracked driveway about 5 days after the move was completed. After review of this claim, it was determined we could not assume liability as we can not be sure the damage was caused by Local Motion. I apologize for any inconvenience.

The moving company caused damage to furniture and stole and/or misplaced our personal tools. Payment for these issues was agreed upon but never paid.

Local Motion Response • Jan 07, 2019

We here at Local Motion apologize for the delay in compensation and will work to get this taken care of as soon as possible. Thank You for your time and patience on this matter.

Customer Response • Jan 14, 2019

I am rejecting this response because:the last communication I have received from Local Motion was on 11/12/2018. They have not responded to any of my messages since that time. I do not believe that they are making any effort to take care of this situation.

We used this company in the past & they were great. So when moving our business, we used them again.
The furniture was not protected properly during the move, resulting into scratches, breakage & damages. In addition a strap broke that was securing the furniture adding further damage.
Prior to the move, Local Motion offered insurance in case of accidental damage. We did go ahead with this insurance to protect our expensive office furniture. The policy is for $25,000.00
We filed the documents as requested to initiate the claim process. This was time intensive as the claim form has many questions and an individual form needed to be filled out for each item, in total 42. Eventually a representative of the repair shop stopped by to inspect the damages . Some of the pieces we showed him (same kind of damage) were not documented on his end. The representative agreed that our conference room table was especially badly damaged. As the conference table surfaces are damaged/missing material, the only feasible course of action is replacement.
Other coffee tables that were in perfect condition previously have deep surface scratches.
In the meantime we had contacted an authorized repair shop for Herman Miller (most of the furniture) and a vastly different number was provided to us. The repair estimates of Local motion are absolutely unrealistic - it cannot be fixed properly for the allotted amount.
From August to coming up with an estimate for repair it took until November (to be fair it did take us a couple of weeks to provide all the documentation requested by them).
After receiving the settlement document from them, I contacted Local Motion to ask for an re-assement of this claim. After deductible, we would receive a total $498 for the entire claim - conference room table alone is $5,000. They resubmitted the same amount. I pointed out to them my disappointment and what step I will take next - Revdex.com being one of them. They have not tried to reach out to me - dissapointing

To whom it may concern,

First off, I would like to apologize for the matter in front of us. We here at Local Motion strive to exceed our customers expectations but we have followed our processes and procedures to the appropriate resolution for this situation. Our licensed repair vendor was sent out to assess the claims/damage. Based on his findings the determination for settlement was compensation based on repair estimates. The total compensation was offered to close this matter after the deductible was met. Thank You

I am rejecting this response because: No definitive course of action was provided. Please provide me with a time frame. Thanks

Local Motion over charged us by 156%.We were quoted a price of $1429 based on two truckloads and taking 7.5 hours for the loading and unloading of our items. Our possessions amounted to exactly two truckloads of space, however,it took the movers a total of 17 hours to load and unload our items. The volume of the load was appropriately estimated,Local Motion either grossly underestimated the time it would take to gain our business or the crew took advantage of work being based on hours. The crew that came to load our items into the trucks showed up one hour late(9:15am) and charged us for the showing up late.We packed all of our belongings in boxes prior to the move,so the crew only needed to take the boxes and furniture and load them into the trucks. The crew worked very slowly. This caused our closing to be delayed and extra costs incurred(hotel stays, extra days off of work).Once we realized the crew was working extremely slow my family started to carry most of the items outside to help speed the process which we were never compensated for.In addition, we paid the movers extra cash to encourage them to speed things along to no avail. The second crew had to unload and reload the first crew’s job, basically redo the first crew’s job which we were charged for. After being assured on the moving day that we would receive a reduction of the overcharged amount we signed the papers feeling the company would honor their word.We contacted the salesman to get a refund on the overcharged amount and were repeatedly ignored. We sent numerous emails and left several messages with both the salesman and then the quality assurance person. We were finally told we would be getting some money back but it was a small portion of what we were lead to believe on our moving day.Now 4 months later and we still haven't received those funds. It got to the point that Local Motion’s own quality assurance person we were in communication with advised us to take additional action due to lack of mgmt response

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

My packing service (8/23/18) and moving service (8/24) experience with Local Motion was horrible. The packers were unprofessional and packed many loose items (like jewelry) in boxes without securing the items, leading to many broken items. They packed the items in boxes that weren’t sealed on the bottom (they were folded) so items were lost through the bottom of the boxes. They packed open, unsealed water bottles in boxes. Random items from multiple rooms were packed together. They didn’t label the boxes accurately (or remove old labels) so boxes were put in the wrong rooms in the second house. I estimate 75% of the boxes were mislabeled. When this was discovered I had to go room to room, open all of the boxes, and have the moving team move the boxes again to the correct room. This led to a much longer time onsite for the moving team, and increased expense to me.

The moving team damaged many items, including putting holes through the kitchen floor in my new house. I filed a claim on 8/24/18 and as of 10/2/18 I still hadn’t received a response from Local Motion.

I was billed $2966.82 for their services, incurred approximately $3000.00 in damage due to their incompetence, and yet Local Motion is only willing to compensate me $181. 20, which is unfair. At this point as a customer I have no recourse, and that is unjust.

Local Motion Response • Jan 04, 2019

We here at Local Motion apologize for the delay in getting this resolved! However we can not refund the amount requested due to our tariff registered with the State of Minnesota and MNDot/MTSA as a household goods carrier. We will however work with our customers' on a compromise amount for the damage done to, from what I understand, is still a functioning furniture item/items with minor damage. We have a protocol we follow within the guidelines of our tariff and appreciate your patience as we try to find common ground on this matter. Thank You!

I would like to work with Local Motion on coming to a mutual agreement. Local Motion had previously offered $181.20, which is not acceptable for the amount of damage incurred. I am rejecting this response because:

I am contesting the offered payment of $180. They are basing their claim on trucking laws, but the damage occurred in my houses, not in the moving van.

1. The company's insufficient packing services caused major damage. I paid nearly $1500 for packing fees I'd like refunded.

2. The movers damaged both homes, including putting holes in the kitchen floor of the new house (a $2000.00 repair). Again these were not issues caused by a moving truck so that law isn't applicable. I paid nearly $1500 for moving fees I'd like refunded.

I hired Local Motion on 7/23/18 to move my home from Brooklyn Park to Champlin MN. I was quoted $1400. I was charged $3300. I was refunded $300. However, that making me livid in itself is not the reason for my complaint. I went thru the 'claims' filing process and had 14 claims to fill out for items they lost or damaged. This process took until 10/4 to finalize. I have emails from the company stating all my claims were finalized and processed and we agreed to a payment of $920 on 10/4. I have still not received payment for these claims and numerous phone calls and emails have been ignored and not responded to. I've called and emailed daily and have not gotten a return phone call or email with an update. I've left messages for three different people, including the owner of the company with no response or acknowledgement of me.

I will not accept further 'looking in to' as acceptable. Nothing will be acceptable until I receive the $920 payment.

Moving day:
2 trucks - 1 Ryder, one U-Haul- show up
3 people show up, but one of them is a small lady who said she is just the driver.
Two additional people trickle in over time to help.
The moving lead was great! The remainder of the team and their operation left much to be desired.
Damage to walls and floor at original residence. Damage to our household goods that were moved to the new home. Damage to new home.
Several voice mails left with Bill A *t Local Motion on the day of and subsequent to the move, but he never returned the calls.
Several emails to Bill A *nd Bill W along with claim forms sent. Never a response back. Faxed claim forms to Bill W. Never hear back.
This operation is flaky at best. DO NOT USE!

Local Motion Response • Nov 21, 2018

Hi Bob,
I apologize for the delayed response. I had missed your fax. I have gone back and retrieved it and I will contact you later today after I review.

We had a great experience with Local Motion! Our team leader (Evodius) did everything with a smile and was quick to address all of my concerns for my mothers move. As a single lady, with an elderly mother, this was very stressful for me, but the movers placed all of her belongings where they were supposed to, and gave us a few extra minutes off the clock to rearrange some of my living room furniture. They truly went the extra mile! I will definitely refer this company to all of my friends and family!

I moved to my current location on October 5th. A number of weeks before I called around to obtain quotes as to what I could expect to pay for my pending move. Local Motion came in at a much lower rate and I had heard a neighbour had good things to say about their experience, so I locked in the estimate. On moving day I met the crew of two at my storage unit before proceeding to the home. The interaction was quick as I had to check out of the storage unit. Nothing was offered to me as for any other coverages or services nor was to told during my estimate call of anything else. This is very important as you will find in the rest of my complaint.
I had to leave to go to my closing at 1pm and the guys thought they would be done around 2 and would meet me at the new address. It was 3pm and I headed back to the old house to see they were still not done and were stacking in a very strange way and still had my mattress and boxspring to put in. My neighbor came over to check on the progress and pulled me aside and said this was all wrong (she had been in moving for 25 years). I knew things were bad when my mattress was the last thing to be loaded and without covering was rubbed up against the dirty sliding door. They then left and when to eat before meeting at new house.

As they were unloading, I didn't think much of anything as they were working hard but then the issues started appearing, my mattress was stained, the box spring was stained. then some newer bathroom storage units (you put together) came out broken. as they were unloading they were using my recliner as a staging area to carry off the truck and set in the recliner before moving to final destination. It turns out my recliner had a huge oil slick stain and is now unusable along with the bathroom storage pieces. The chair stinks of oil and is stuck in my basement with no way out. on top of this, I was charged almost double my estimate as it took so long. No extra coverage was ever offered. Ever

I went to ***'s home to assess situation and took care of a couple of items and will continue to work on getting the situation resolved! I picked up the recliner for cleaning and will be ready by next week! We here at Local Motion are truly sorry for the time it has taken to resolve the issues but do what we can for our customers' in the order in which they are received. We will continue to stay on top of these issues and hope our customers' stay patient with the process and thank them for their understanding going forward. All Our Best!

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

They broke our 80 inch curved TV ($8,000 Purchase value) and told us that we didn't complete our paperwork correctly to select the upgraded insurance coverage and as a result they offered us $90 for the TV.
We were never informed about purchasing extra insurance coverage by their employee who barely spoke English.
When my husband tried to work through customer service he was told by an employee that they just disregarded his claim because their was nothing he could do about it and didn't care whatsoever about our issue.
My husband also sent emails to numerous individuals in upper level management sharing our poor experience and no reply or acknowledgement was sent back.
Not only did they break an item, they were late showing up, went to the wrong location and damaged the interior of our brand new home.
What a horrendous experience with lack of respectful service and general business acumen.
We hope no one uses them!

Contracted with Local Motion to move my belongings/furniture from my apartment in St. Cloud on 5/19/18. Some damage was incurred to my leather sectional couch. A claim was filed and I was given an amount due me for the damages based on my contract with Local Motion. I have never been paid for the damage claim. I have made numerous calls to Local Motion with no results. Talked to Bill *** at Local Motion on 9/28/18 and he assured me he would look into the claim and get back to me. Have heard nothing from him since. Numerous calls have resulted in no contact, only voice mails and no returned calls.
