Maaco Auto Painting & Bodyworks Reviews (91)

Review: originaly wen to maco on 2/10/2015 to get an estimate on painting my 1966 chevrolet c20 pickup truck. they gave me 3 estimates (1. no body work just pant $400 2. just body work no paint $800 3. all the body work and new paint $1800.) when the estimates were written I read them and questioned [redacted] who was writing the estimate "it only says here certain parts of the vehicle like left bed behind wheel opening? does this mean the whole bedside would be fixed or just what you mentioned?" to wich he replied "don't to worry it would all be fixed". I removed the bumper the grill and all of the outside trim to make it a little easier on them. I returned on 2/17/2015 and ageed on option number 3. I instructed the gentleman (mike) that I had just installed brand new wood in the bed and new parts inside the engine bay and I did not want it to get damaged and have any paint on those spots. he said no problem and left notes in the paperwork. I was given a date of 2/27/2015 when the truck should be done. I called a week before and asked how work was progressing I again talked to mike who had informed me that the body work was done and that it would be going in to prep soon. I asked if there was any surprises which he replied there was not. I called again on 2/24/2015 to see if it was going to be ready on the date mentioned before. I was greated by [redacted] who told me I needed to come in and disccus what they had found. I came in the next day. when I arrived I talked to [redacted] who showed me my car and he told me there was more damage on the vehicle and it was now going to cost more than what he quoted. I told him that I didnt think I should have to pay more for was already estimated. he told me that these areas were not in the estimate and that he would only fix the areas he specifically typed in the estimate. I told him I couldnt afford that much and that it seemed like he was squeezing me for more money. I also noticed the exhaust had been covered with primer and I didnt want them painted and informed [redacted]. he told me that if I didnt pain the door jams he would use that money to do the rest of the body work. I agreed and he suggested changing the color of the car and I agreed and changed from black to blue and adding 2 tone to the estimate. we agreed on the $200 charge on the 2 tone upgrade. I was told that I should be ready around the 26 th I agreed. I called on the 26th and was told it was almost done it just needed to be detailed they said it would be done on the 27th I called on the 27th I was told it was almost done and it would be done and it just needed to be detailed they said it would be ready on the 28th and they would call me when it was ready. I called on the 28th nobody answered I called several more times with no answer. so I left a voicemail.

I was contacted on 3/16/2015 nd told the truck was ready. I walked down and talked with mike he said my car was ready. I went outside to inspect my vehicle and was greeted by [redacted] who told me that the battery was dead and it needed to be jump started. he then hooked up a jump starter and instructed me to turn the vehicle on. I turned the key and it started and imedietly went backwards and I tripped and nearly got ran over. I then jumped in the truck and slammed on the brakes and stopped the vehicle. a gentleman who works at that location, whos name I later learned to be rudy then said "you are lucky there was no car behind your car." this made me upset after inspecting the vehicle I noticed paint on the seat, the exhaust had been painted over and the engine bay was covered with overspray. rudy then took the vehicle back several times and tried to clean these areas. after he was done I drove the vehicle home. once I got home I started to notice more and more problems all over the vehicle. there was paint that could not be removed all over the engine bay still. the places where rudy had cleaned had been ruined (some of the lettering had been smeared and faded) paint chipped off and places where it had not been sanded before paint was aplied. there is dents all over the vehicle even on the panels that were written on the estimate. my shifter no longer worked properly.

I called and was instructed by mike that rudy woud help me out. I began to talk to rudy I explained that I was still pretty upset about what happened this morning. he said it was my own fault and didnt understand that I was upset about what he had said. before I could complete any sentence about my complaints he continously interupted me with an excuse why this was not their fault. he then said I should be happy I didnt have to pay a lot. I told him that I did not like to be talked over and if he wasnt going to let me talk I would leave. he then instructed me that [redacted] would come out and talk to me. I then talked to [redacted]. I explained to him what happened and I was still upset about the incident that happened this morning. I went over all of the problems that I saw and explained that I wasnt happy. [redacted] denaied any fault and I didnt pay a lot of money so I should just take it and be happy. I even pointed out the chipped paint and he said he would fill that in with a brush and refused to sand the area. and I should be happy with that. I told him I would not and after deliberating for a while he finally agreed to fix only some of the issues. I told him this was still not enough but I still wanted these issues to be fixed. I gave him the keys and refused said that he couldnt do it right now. I asked why not he said he had customers that have been waiting. I told him this wasnt fair and that your putting new customers over someone who already paid. I then told him a majority of these issues could have been fixed before I picked up the car and I probably wouldnt have been so unhappy. he then agreed to take it that day and fix the pain chips (not propperly) and the overspray.

when I got home I called maaco corperate and filled a complaint about all of the issues I had with this location. they took down everything I said and told me I should here back within 48 hours. shortly after I was contacted by [redacted]. he said that he just received information that I had filed a complaint I said yes I did. he then said "i thought you were going to be a big boy about this?" I told him I had to protect myself. he said " I thought you were a man" and "since your not going to stand by your word im not going to fix anything." I asked why he said it was in corperate now and they will take care of it. he kept saying that I wasnt a man and I didnt stand by my word. he then said "i could do anything I could just leave your car on the street." I then asked if he was threatning me and my vehicle he replied no to wich ii responded by tellin him that was a threat. he replied "i could leave your car on the street I could do a lot of things" I told him not to threaten me or my vehicle and I would be by tomorrow to pick it up. I called maaco corperate again to report what he had said to me.

3/17/2015 I went to maaco to pick up my truck. was told that the owner did some touch ups to the paint and against my wishes used solvent on the wood bed to clean off the overspray.Desired Settlement: Because the owner already threatened my vehicle I cannot have any repairs done there. I would like maaco to pay for the parts that can be replaced. for the parts that cannot be replaced I would like them to pay for the reconditioning/repair.

I am sorry that Mr. [redacted], left the email complaint that he did. Mr. [redacted] came in to this shop several times, first to get a quote. At that time, I asked him what he wanted to do with the truck. He said wanted to clean up the truck, because he just wanted to sell it. The truck was in primer and very difficult to see all the bodywork that it needed. My first thought and I told Mr [redacted] that this truck needed well over $1000 worth of bodywork just to begin with. Not including any prep or paint work.We finalized an estimate with our most inexpensive (enamel) paint and with some of the bodywork listed that I could "see," with the truck in primer as it was... I mentioned then, that once the truck was in primer, that I would call him in to look at it before we painted it. Mr [redacted] came in and I showed him the body areas that he paid to have repaired and there was a lot more work to be done. He wasn't too happy about that, but that's what I told him from the beginning. He agreed to a few hundred dollars worth of additional bodywork, but not nearly all the work he needed to make the truck perfect. Mr [redacted] also added a two tone charge (of $150) more to paint the roof white. He also, at my urging, changed his color choice from Black to Blue Metallic. This would show less body imperfections than the blue would, with my experience. So then Mr [redacted] came back in to pick up the truck. He mentioned there were a few, fairly minor items, of overspray (exhaust, bed wood, on the radiator and air cleaner areas, and on the seat). Mr [redacted] did not want to pay his bill until he reviewed the truck when we had it cleaned up. When the truck was done, about 15 mins later, Mr [redacted] looked at it and was happy at that time to pay his bill in full, with cash. He signed off on our completion form and drove off.About two hours later, Mr [redacted] pulled back into the lot, with a friend of his and they both were not at all happy with a number of things that he mentioned below. (His friend works at a custom cycle shop, by the way, where they do high-end, top dollar custom paint jobs on cycles.)Anyhow, how we left it was this. We did the work that he paid for. We did our most inexpensive paint and charged him only approximately $500 for the paint work on his bill. I did agree with Mr [redacted] to address his overspray issues and would be glad to clean up those areas for him. I also agreed to touch up several areas of paint that were on the body seam on the tailgate area and roof rain gutter, that were very difficult to sand to his liking. He wanted to drop off the truck that day and I said we couldn't finish up the work yet that week. (I believe it was on a Thursday.) I said it would take a couple days and he decided to leave the truck anyhow. Then he went back and called Maaco Corp about the (poor?) service he had received from my shop, after I said we would address his overspray concerns. The other complaints he had were not anything that we could take care of, without having to charge him extra money. He was absolutely not willing to pay any more money for his job. I called him back and asked him why he went to Maaco Corp, after we shook hands and I agreed to take care of specific concerns that we already agreed to. He was not happy about that, and neither was I and I told him to take his truck, because I would not deal with a man who can't keep his word.He said he'd pick up the truck first thing the next day and be done with us... So I thought, to do the right thing and to honor our agreement, that I would take care of his areas of concern on overspray, before he got in the next day. Well, Mr [redacted] didn't show up to pick up his truck till that afternoon. We had addressed his concerns that we had agreed to and he was not happy that we even worked on the truck at that point. He picked up the truck, put the truck on Craig's List to sell - looks pretty darn good and he's asking a high dollar price for this truck. Then Mr [redacted] proceeded to post derogatory posts on our FaceBook page and went here to the Revdex.com and thus, this response...I really cannot do any more for Mr [redacted]. He is requesting all new parts and in all my dealings with thousands of customers over 10 years, I have never met such an unreasonable person. Sorry that he is so upset, but outside of any minor overspray issues and clean up, we are not able to do anything more at this time. This should suffice to state our side of the story.Regards,[redacted] K [redacted]owner - Maaco Stanton[redacted]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Response:

Sorry to hear that. I am more than happy to provide the agreed upon and hand shake agreement items that we had when the customer returned with the vehicle. Actually, most of these issues that we had agreed to have already been completed. Unfortunately the customer was not happy and is somehow requesting new parts. I have been in this business now in my 10th year and have never had a customer so far out on his request.Respectfully submitted.Owner Maaco Stanton

Review: I got in an accident, took my vehicle to maaco. They advised me to repair my bumper due to the damage of the accident instead of replacing it. They dida terrible job in doing so. They told me the work is under a 5 year warranty. I took it back to be done correctly and I picked it up looking worse than it already was. They said that was the best they can do. They left it at that. Needless to say my car looks terrible.Desired Settlement: I am requesting the money I paid to them back so I can take my car to another place to be fixed correctly.

[redacted],

Review: Maaco is advertising a sale get you car painted for $249. The advertisement is on TV and Google. We took our car to Maaco in [redacted] NJ 3/28/14 and was told that the $249 paint job would cost $1380. I have the written estimate given to us by the manager [redacted] who also told us that it wasn't worth the cost to paint our car. Another potential victim called while we were in the store and he told them that they were offering a $249 paint job plus tax. We took the car to another Maaco shop and that manager told us that the $249 paint job only covered "cheap paint" and quoted us a price of $550 plus tax.Desired Settlement: Honesty!!! I would also appreciate having the car painted for the $249 offered in the ad and would be willing to pay a little more for the better paint

Review: I had minor rust back drivers side back panel of my vehicle. Took to Maaco to get rust removed and match paint. [redacted], gave my husband and me, 2 estimates 1) rust removed and back quarter painted -or- 2) remove rust | bondo, repair minor dings, and repaint entire car to match for $1,284. We opted for fix rust and repaint entire car the same for $1,284.

Opted for the 2. Macco called about 5 days later to pick up car. Went to pick car up and 'Maaco' put a golf ball size dent in passenger side front of car. The paint job was bad: orange peel, drips, and place on bumper (painter scuffed with pants) had smeared the paint and it dried that way. [redacted] appoligized and said they were sorry and he would have them fix the worse of the paint spots and fix the new dent. And he would call when car was done.

Car was done on December 19th. We picked up and paid for car on December 20. The paint job is still awful. But my husband said, what are we supposed to do. It is our belief that they may not be capable of doing a good job.

Called Maaco and spoke with [redacted] at the end of March 2015. Told [redacted] the paint has flaked and bubbled over the rust spot that was supposed to have been removed, bondo and painted. That it hasn't even been 3 months of the 5 year warranty. He told me rust is not covered, e v e n if I came to them to fix the rust spot and repaint the car. He stated, rust comes back. I said rust does not come back in the same spot it was removed w/i 60 days. Why would I pay to have the rust removed and the car repainted? You said that the job you guys performed on my car was warranty for 5 years. You did not exclude rust return in same spot.

We went to them to remove the rust. He now says rust isn't covered. Please help me. I spent almost $1300 removing the small rust spot, and they painted over it. And [redacted] said your beat, you can go to Revdex.com or anyone else. It doesn't matter. We will do nothing.Desired Settlement: I would like my car repaired and a different Maaco - not [redacted].

They are awful.

. My car is black and chrome with custom mud flaps. The mud flaps have design and logo on front. They put them on backwards and the wrong sides.

Review: I took my 1985 El Camino to Maaco on July 22 2015 for a paint job. [redacted] walked quickly around car & gave me a price of $2362. Called me back in a few days and said there are many dents and needed more money. I told him he should have noticed them the first time and agreed to give him $1000 more to fix dents. A week and a half later called to pic up car - they never put moldings back on so I left car and told them call me when they were done Three days later I was called. This is the worst paint job I have ever seen. They not only did a bad job -my new radio doesn't work, my power windows didn't work and they ruined my new tint on my windows and said I brought it to them like that. I would never recommend or bring another car there again. Something has to be done. I know I am not the only customer with a complant. Please look into this matter ASAPDesired Settlement: Compensation for my radio windows and tint on my car

Review: On 5/15/14 we got an estimate on painting our trailer from Maaco in [redacted] NJ. We wanted the sale, but agreed to add sanding and a sealer at an additional cost. The trailer was already pre-sold at $2,200.00. We dropped it off approximately 10 days later. We were told it would take about a week. After 2 weeks we called to see if it was ready, they said it was and they had left a message. We never received a message. The next day we went to get it and upon inspection found runs and over spray. And bottom front was gray not white as ordered , but we weren't concerned about the color change. They offered to deduct a ridiculously small amount from the bill. We declined an insisted the runs and over spray be corrected. After about a week we called, it was not finished. Another several days past, we called again, they said it was done. The next day, 6/25/14, we went to pick it up. (This being the 4th trip to Maaco, a 25 minute drive and $20 in diesel fuel each trip.) Upon a 2nd inspection we found the runs were fixed but not the over spray. With their less than to be desired attitude ,they deducted $25! Due to the pre-sale we had to accept it! It was dark when we arrived home, so we inspected it the next day. There is a 2ft dent on left front, (it had existing dent on right front) We found over spray all over the inside, and on the back ramp (which couldn't be seen at Maaco cause it was backed into thick brush, maybe on purpose? ). Ramp was not to be painted. There are runs on left fender and ??? on right fender. And then we saw the roof, it was not painted! Have to question if the sealer was ever used, cause the paint has already started to chip! They had the trailer for almost a month vrs a week, made a mess of the job and failed to correct it, it's cost us lost time from work and extra fuel, and worst of all they cost us the loss of the sale of $2,200.00. !!! We have pictures of all issues stated above. Thankyou.Desired Settlement: To be compensated for the cost of the lost sale of the trailer , and lost money caused by this experience. Not only were we ripped off but we were treated poorly.

Review: I went in and pre paid my hood for my 2013 Hyundai elantra for a repair they were doing on my car. I needed a new hood and bumper repaired and both painted. I dropped my car off after hours the associate [redacted] told me where to leave it and the paper work. I called around noon the following day and they had no idea my car was there. Poor communication on their part so my car sat there and had I not called god knows how long until they realized. We made arrangements that the car would be done Saturday after being told it was a three day job. I spoke to them about a coupon that I saw on the website and they said they would not honor it because they already cut me a deal on parts and materials that I was unaware of. Saturday marked the fourth day. I went in Saturday to pay the remaining balance expecting my car to be done at some point that day. I pulled in and my car was parked in their lot UNTOUCHED! I was fuming, we spoke with [redacted] and he explained he has 63 cars taken in and he is trying to keep everyone happy. He assured me it would be done Monday. Here we are and I called around 2:45 to check in and I was told by [redacted] that the hood was just put on and still has to get painted and it may not be done today. I called corporate flipping out and I just want my car back I have been lied to and jerked around for almost a week. When I spoke with corporate they addressed the shop and they will not honor the coupon since they already cut me a deal. I think the least that this shop could have done was honored the coupon after leaving a single mom with a four year old starting school and has orientations without a car for nearly a week just to have it sit in their lot. They refused, regardless of the deal that they gave me and I was unaware of they should have done something to acknowledge their wrong doings and maybe even apologize. I am livid and will never return there or recommend that shop to anyone. They could have tried to make a bad situation and didn't.Desired Settlement: All I am asking for since this is the second car we brought to that shop and was going to be bringing a third that they try to turn this situation around. Honoring a 10% and apologizing is not much to ask. Its very minimal and the right thing to do considering I was promised over and over again and all of them came untrue or I was lied to. This coupon comes to like 97.00 and I had a job done that was 965.00. This store is more concerned with money than fixing the issues they created by taking a car in when they had over 60 cars on the lot. Problem could have been avoided if they told me they were to busy but instead they took my car in and were not able to live by the time frame and the promises that were made.

Review: I contracted [redacted] at Maaco to paint my 2000 BMW Wagon for $1,162.00. I put $600 down and the balance was $582.69. The car was ready to be picked up on 9/18/13. Before driving the car home I asked [redacted] if he could repair two power windows that were not working. [redacted] told me the labor would be $150 per window with my supplied parts for a total of $300. I decided to pay for the work in advance and leave my car with [redacted]. I added the $300 for a total of $862.69 written on check #1202 on 9/18/13. After a week he said it needed a motor and he can order one for $75. I picked up my car and we made an appointment for Friday 9/27 for the repair. I dropped off the car early 9/27. That day [redacted] explained his installer called out sick and the work did not get done. I finally picked up my car on Tuesday 10/1 at 5PM just before the Maaco shop closed. One window was done, one was not and my interior console and the door were partially disassembled with parts everywhere. [redacted] gave me a phone number for his installers wife [redacted]? The installer finally called back on Friday 10/4 and made an appointment for Monday 10/7. He never showed up or called on 10/7. I called [redacted] at Maaco that afternoon and asked if he could just refund my $150 for the unrepaired window. He then told me the motor cost $100 and he was stuck with it but he would have the refund check ready. Today 10/9 I called before going to Maaco about my refund. [redacted] told me the motor cost was $125. When I asked him about the rising price of the motor and if he had a receipt for it, he stuttered and said he couldn't find it and that motor was actually much more than any of the prices he gave me. After I got there, he tried to hand me a parts box and said, "we're even". He then told me he couldn't write a check because the secretary was not in (2PM on Wednesday). I have been there and called there numerous times and never met any secretary. I left with no refund and more of [redacted]'s lies and double talk.Desired Settlement: I just want my $150. I paid to have my window repaired. The window was never repaired. My interior is still disassembled. I know the next mechanic I hire for the repair will have to put it back together anyway so I just want my $150. Please mail it to me.

Customer supplied own parts for window repairs. Repairs to right front door were completed. Upon dismantling and attempting to repair rear right door Maaco discovered that the power motor for regulator was missing. [redacted] gave customer estimated cost for part. Customer ok'd order of motor. This repair was to be sublet since customer had picked up his vehicle from Maaco. Customer contacted subcontractor. Sub contractor was unavailable 10/7. Sub contractor contacted Customer

several times, customer would not return subcontractors calls. Customer then notified [redacted] he no longer wanted repairs

made. Maaco paid out labor to complete front door repairs, dismantle rear door and paid for motor that is not returnable. In good faith Maaco will issue $150.00 refund to customer.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:

[redacted]n and Maaco Auto Body and [redacted] in Toms River, NJ told me months ago they had a refund check waiting for me. I went down there as explained in my original complaint and there was no check. Ample opportunity has been made for Maaco to make this right and return my money. Their delinquent response to the Revdex.com complaint is far from truthful. I had two appointments with the subcontractor to repair the window. He never showed up or called both times! I called the subcontractor and his girlfriend many times with no response and no call back. My interior was partially disassembled and unsafe for my children. I was very eager to get it repaired. Interior panels and trim pieces were never reinstalled. Bare metal and electrical wires remain exposed and unsafe for my children to this day. I called [redacted] at Maaco and he refused to help and told me to keep calling the girlfriend. The fact remains Maaco Auto Body and [redacted] Toms River, NJ managed by [redacted] had a contract with me to repair two windows at $150 each for $300. The rate was fair and I happily agreed to pay for any additional parts needed. One window was repaired and one was not. They kept $150 and left my rear door and console disassembled after their man could not keep the appointments or return my calls. I can not agree to resolve this matter with the Revdex.com until the refund is received. My money was wrongfully kept by Maaco South Toms River and my refund is deserved. If there is any good faith in the company as explained in their response, they would put my interior back together too. -

Review: I have a 1970 Chevelle that was contracted to strip and paint with bodywork repairs. After several months and additional expense for additional work the car was returned. The "new paint" had fish-eyes, and scratches on both the hood and trunk lid. Additionally the new trunk I had installed was not correctly lined up for it was reinstalled, and the very first time I opened the trunk lid it dented. Macco took the car back after [redacted] inspected it, and after over a month and a-half the car was finally returned late in the day on Monday October 21st. When [redacted] dropped off the car he noticed a nick in the rear quarter panel and said he would be back on Tuesday to buff it out. Later in the afternoon on Monday I went over the car and found over 40 areas that were either scratched deeply or where fish-eyes in the paint were still present. I put non-stick paint on the damage and took pictures [which I have]. I called Macco on Tuesday morning October 22nd, to discuss my dissatisfaction withe the "repairs", and was told by [redacted] there was nothing wrong with the car, and I never mentioned about the additional scratches on the sides of the car [remember they just painted the car and there should not be any scratches or fisheyes anywhere for a job that cost me over $5,000.00]. With excuses, etc from [redacted] I did in fact lose my patience and did use language to convey my extreme disgust and displeasure with the results.

[redacted] mumbled something about coming down to review my claims. At this point they have wasted considerable time in the first repair as I planned on selling the car in September to someone who is no longer willing to wait.Desired Settlement: I would like a partial refund for the time wasted, and the fact that I must have the car fixed for all the existing damage [flaws in the paint, and scratches that must be repaired to bring the car to the point of sale]. It will cost at least 1500.00 to make the car right.

Review: MY CAR HAD RUST STARTING AT REAR LEFT & RIGHT QUARTER PANELS .ALSO I ASK THAT THE ENTIRE HOOD BE PAINTED & YELLOW LINE PAINT BE REMOVED FROM THE ROCKER PANEL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I ASKED TO TOUCH-UP THE REAR BUMPER. I HAD TO RETURN TO MAACO 4 TIMES BEFORE THE JOB WAS DONE PROPERLY. MY CAR WAS IN THE SHOP THE 1ST TIME OCT 22,2012. IT TOOK NEARLY 3 WEEKS . ON FEB 9TH 2013 IS WHEN I NOTICED THE RUST HAD RETURNED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT QUARTER PANELS. I FAXED MY RECIEPT TO MAACO WITH AMESSGE WRITTEN ON IT STATING THAT THE RUST HAD COME BACK. TO THIS DAY I HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED BY MAACO.Desired Settlement: THAT MY CAR WILL BE PROPERLY REPAIRED WITHOUT ANY HASSLE OR COST TO ME!

I recently went here to get my truck painted and had some fenders and doors aligned on my 1985 ford pickup. after two weeks, I went to pick it up and the paint was bubbling on the drivers side door, hood, and passenger side fender. there is no paint on the bottom right hand side of my truck bed. I paid an extra fee for a fender when they said the new one I put on there 3 weeks before I took it to them, was dented. if it were dented, I obviously wouldn't want to put it on there to begin with. then they charged me more because they said the new one they ordered could not align with the hood and they wanted to weld a section into the fender to extend it. when addressed this, they gave me the old fender, which I still have, no dents. they said the primer I put on the truck had a chemical reaction with the paint they put on the truck to create the bubbling. why is it that I put the same primer all over the truck and its only in some spots that the paint bubbles? and when they ordered the new fender, it has bubbling on it, so, they didn't prep that fender correctly either. I asked a few other body shops and they said it looks like it was done in a dirty environment. not in a paint booth. they supposedly aligned my doors, but when I open them, they fall out of alignment.
