Mae Fence Company Reviews (%countItem)

Had a cedar fence installed about two weeks ago. Waited to write a review immediately because, even though the fence looked beautiful, I wanted another gate put on the east end of the house and wanted to see how it would go.
Dealing with them was pleasant. The company is obviously knowledgeable about what the do and very friendly. Can tell they are family owned in how they dealt with me.
They came on out and slapped the additional gate on a few days ago and we're happy as can be. They'll be doing a fence for my parents come spring.

Had a fence installed by Mae 2 weeks ago. The men worked right throw a rain storm and it looks amazing!

What a great team! Whitney is a gem, Adam is a hoot and Tim is as a straight a shooter as they come. These guys care about what you want, getting the job done, doing the job right! AND - they'll make you smile every step of the way. Real People helping Real People. I love them to pieces and they do GREAT work! I can't recommend them enough!!

I had a cedar fence put up by Mae Fence last fall. I was told I had an instillation date a little later than I expected because they were very busy, but in the end it was well worth the wait.
The crew showed up early and got the job done a little after noon. I didn't expect the job to be done in one day, but it was!
It's a gorgeous fence.
After some winter weather we had some issues with our gate, I called Whitney in the office and she had someone out there the next day while I was at work. Great Service!!

I had an aluminum fence installed last week by Mae Fence. I tried to get them to come to come out before the installation, but they resisted and said they would come with extra material and could change things in the field if needed. The foreman that they sent was not programmed to do that. There was a language barrier and a cultural barrier. They came out and just started digging holes without discussing the plan. The owner(Tim) told me they were paid by the foot which makes sense. The less time, the more profit! They didn't seem to care about how well the job was done; only that it was done quickly! They hit our drain pipe 4 times, but I don't think they punctured it This could have been avoided with a crew that was not incentivized to get it done quickly! I would not recommend this company!!

The workers were fast and efficient and the end result looks amazing!

I just had my 5ft pool fence installed 22 October. From start to finish this company makes it easy. Kevin was great to get the project information and quote. The quote I received was very reasonable after receiving several others. Jeanette scheduled the install and let me know everything I need before the install. The install team was knowledgeable and professional. I had a few challenges with underground pool lines and irrigation lines in the same backyard. Not one line was damaged and my fence passed inspection and looks great! I would recommend Mae Fence if you want the job done right!

Mae Fence is a great place to find your fencing and gate needs. I have used them for both and do not regret anything for service or installs. I have 2 gates and 100 feet of cedar rail I am glad I own their fencing

From beginning to end, the folks at were very professional and did a great job. Matt came a few days after calling for a review of the yard and a quote. He was on time, and the review was quick and easy. I told him I was still looking around and would get back to him shortly. After deciding to go with Mae due to cost and what I believed to be great quality, we had our date scheduled and only had to wait around 6-7 weeks. Day of installation only took ~4-5 hours, They showed up right around 9:00am and got straight to work. I had a few questions on gate placement, the crew answered that. About an hour in, the post hole digger cut my internet line (minor disruption), that wasn't the best, but they had it repaired within 30 minutes and I was back online. After installation, we walked the fence, everything looked great. There was still some dirt around the post holes (to be expected), but they had removed the large mounds of dirt, which was great. They cleaned up and headed out, and we are very happy with our fence!

I communicated several times with Kevin, my sales guy, before installation began. Crew of 3 showed up promptly. I stayed around the day so that I could discreetly monitor progress, so there would be no miscommunication. The workers were great, adding an inside lock, a few hooks on my gate( that I had purchased) and replacing a slanted section in the corner that I had added. I’m happy with my fence.

Great company and so glad we hired Mae Fence. They were very Professional at all levels. They delivered on time and on budget. Best part is the finished product looks perfect- we love our new fence. Would definitely recommend Mae Fence.

In July, 2018, we had Mae Fence come and install a split rail fence in one section of our yard and in another area a six foot privacy fence. The fence has a 3 year warranty. This Spring we discovered several sections of the split rail had warped, some worse than others. We believe this was the result of the installers nailing the split rail to the posts. Also, we had one post on the privacy fence that had warped. We contacted Mae Fence company and explained the problem to Ms. L. Per her request, we emailed pictures of the warped rails and post to her on June 24th. Shortly there after, we met with a Mae Fence representative at our home. This gentlemen agreed that there was a problem and that time was scheduled for this gentleman to come back and make the necessary repairs, but on the day and time he was to arrive, he never showed. We contacted this gentleman and he said that he had been taken off this job and they would send someone else, but no one showed up. We contacted the office and they said they would get back with us and they never did. We have tried to reach the company and now we get an answering machine and no one is calling us back. We also had the owners cell phone number and left a message with him, and he hasn't called us back! We spent over $9192 for this fence and are very disappointed. We need the Revdex.coms help in reaching this company. We would even be willing to just fix it ourselves, if they would be willing to give us the materials. Please help us.

Mae Fence Company Response • Sep 30, 2019

We typically use only cedar posts for our fence installation but this customer wanted a treated post that does not carry the same warranty as the cedar. We will make an exception and replace the bowed material.

Revdex.com:

I reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and find the resolution is satisfactory to me.

Although, we accept the company's response to replace the bowed post, we would like to note that no way in the contract does it state that treated wood was not covered. We were verbally told it had a three (3) year warranty.

On June 19, 2019 we paid Mae Fence 3600.00 as a down payment on fence installation. This was half of the total cost of 7200.00 which included the cost to have Mae Fence obtain HOA permits and Sunbury Permits. On 7/16/19 (10 days prior to our given install date of 7/26/19) Jeanette called and said she had emailed us in June for a copy of our plot. We did not receive the email. I immediately emailed the plot copy on 7/16/19 and asked if we would still have our install date of 7/26/19 and was told yes that the permits should go quickly. After many emails due to lack of communication from Mae Fence and many conflicting call/emails (Were told we would not have our fence installed on the 26th due to no permits - then received a call from someone else at Mae Fence saying that they could installed Sat the 27th - we asked if they received permits and the person said they weren't aware that we didn't have them). I made many follow up emails to Jeanette asking on status and asked over the course of the next few weeks what options I had to cancel the order since I had lost my confidence in their ability to complete the project. I also asked to have the owner call us and received no response to cancelling the order or a call from Tim, the owner. We finally received an install date of after I received and disputed our HOA permit and cleared that up. Note- we PAID an extra 250.00 per Mae Fence to take care of our permits. Crew arrived on 8/14/19 to install fence and we reminded them of the 5" water easement that Sunbury required on the permit. The crew said that was too high. Install proceeded but was not able to be completed due to pickets being cut incorrectly. We were told they would come back Sunday to complete. We also told them of a dent in gate that was not acceptable and they said they would fix it. They arrived Saturday with no notice and installed the pickets but were not able to once again complete because they ran out of picket caps and had no post caps. We were told they would come back sometime 'next week'. On Tuesday 8/20 Mae Fence calls to have us pay the balance of our fence. We told them that it wasn't complete - they responded that the crew had turned it in complete. We said we have no post caps and missing some picket caps and had a couple of concerns with loose panels. On 8/21 a person comes to complete the caps. We point out the loose panels and he states he will have to put screws in but he doesn't have the tools. He comes back later and installs screws in loose panels. The gate that was repaired from the original dent now has extra holes in and a hole in a picket as well as a very uneven cut on the bottom. We said that it was unacceptable. During this time, I have emailed Jeanette on other flaws (chunks out of pickets and our concern with the water easement, as well as the gate). We received no communication from the owner even thought we requested a couple more times. A second crew came out to view the fence and one even said of the gate 'I'm not paying for that". Sunbury Zoning came out to inspect and said the 5" easement was not maintained as outlined in the permit and two sections of the fence would need to be raised. I emailed his letter outlining this to Whitney. Prior to that, Whitney has called and asked if we could be home on Saturday the 24th so that the repair crew could come out. We needed to be there to show them the defects, even thought two other crews had already been shown. She couldn't give me a time and the CREW NEVER SHOWED UP, after we waiting all day and took time off work. I then emailed her that I wanted Tim to call. Again, he didn't bother to call. Our desired outcome if the complete fix of the defects in the fence - and a refund of our time waiting for a crew that never showed, as well as the $250.00 for permits (less the actual fee for the permits). If they can't do that I request a full refund of the $3600 paid so that we can pay a reputable company to fix our fence and get us in compliance. The absolute lack of communication and professionalism with this company has caused great stress. The defects still not corrected include - chunks out of 3 pickets, some pickets caps that are loose or not glued, the gate has many defects and there are now at least two sections of fence that need to be raised to allow for the water easement that Mae Fence was 100% aware of that Sunbury requested on the permits. Any time we have a complaint the company just ceases to respond to our emails and or phone calls. I have a detailed written timeline of all of the emails and phone calls with conflicting information.

Revdex.com called business spoke to Whitney. She said consumer's complaint has been resolved.

I had one of their sales at my house on July 16 to give me a quote to replace 33 rails and 5 pickets in my privacy fence. He gave me a quote of $1900. I agreed with the quote and gave him a check for $1000 with the balance due upon completion which was to be August 6. I got a call from Mae asking if they could change the date to the 7th and I agreed. A worker showed up with the wrong supplies to do the job....said he would return the same day and did not return. I called the next morning and left a message, no return call...called later that same day left another msg no return call...callled ***....told them the story...they called Mae left a msg,,,the nest morning Mae called me and said that they would refund my $1000 because the work was more than they expected...What a poor way to do business...they took my $1000 and then decided not to do the job and didn't have the courtesy to return my call. Kevin is the salesperson that came to my house...I own a real estate marketing company and needless to say they will never get a referral from me...they claim my refund check is in the mail......

Multiple issues with installation of cedar privacy fence. Improper installation, shotty workmanship, lack of concern for correction, pricing not as quoted. Damage to property and complete dissatisfaction with product, materials and lack of.customer service.

Customer is very happy with the finished product, and the repair work is done.

Hi ***, I reached an agreement with Mae Fence in regards to the many issues with my fence install. I've been yelled at for submitting a Revdex.com complaint and updating it; I've burnt numerous hours of vacation waiting on no call no show crews; I've been told by Tim- the owner, that the install was sloppy at best and that the crew sent to complete it was not competent to install my fence....they were better suited for a small picket fence. I was told by the Quality Control Person-Whitney that it was a "***" install job. This experience from day 1 of install through the end --well over 60 days later, was pure hell. Please understand some items from my initial complaint were repaired and repaired well I might add. Unfortunately... others were not. The repair of some items would have caused Mae to tear down my fence and start over...not an option for me. I have an inground pool and could not be without a fence due to insurance, city code and my very own ethics and morals, I couldnt risk someone getting injured or worse due to an incompetent install crew,I will say that Tim S although very avoident was pleasant to deal with and seemingly accommodating, he was willing to try to correct or attempt to correct the issues, unfortunately his crews were not able to live up to all of his promises. After slightly over 2 months of torn up yard, dead grass and many frustrations, I was just done! Done with stories and wasting vacation hours as well as the mess and this whole issue hanging over my head...I was quick to respond to the offers of discounts.Am I 100% happy...NOPE! Can I live with it...YEP! My nightmare is over, unfortunately...I imagine someone else's is just beginning.

Amazing Company, very good quality, install was done very well. Would recommend Mae Fence to anyone!

Thank you for the kind review!

I contracted Mae fence to install a fence for 2100.00 dollars. It was installed on the 15 of May but they forgot to install my gate. Later that day I discovered they didn’t pay attention to the oops ground markings and cut my phone line , so I was without a phone for 2 days. I called them and they said they would be out again to install my gate however they never showed up. I called them back the next day and they said they would come on Saturday to install my gate. Saturday a guy came out at 9 am said he would go get what he needed and be right back, well he never came back and I still don’t have my gate. I’m *** and they didn’t even have the decency to call me with an apology. This lack of ethics on there part should warrant a discount of some kind. This is not good business at all !!! Thanks

I am sorry about the cut telecommunication line and communication issues. Sometimes this does happen, especially having to dig so close to these line to put the fence where you want it. The Gate was not drawn on the contract so it was not installed on the initial installation. The fence is totally complete with a new gate.

We had our fence installed by Mae Fence five years ago around September of 2014. Mae Fence stated that they took care of all HOA approvals and permits required to build the fence. Additionally, we were happy with the overall experience from the beginning to the completion of the fence build.

Fast forwarding five years later to April of 2019, we received a letter in the mail from Genoa Township telling us that the application submitted by a *** at Mae Fence was denied due to the fact that our fence would be built within a no built/no disturb area. This denial letter from Genoa Township was sent to Mae Fence on September 9, 2014. With that, the letter from Genoa Township stated that we had three options:

1) Remove the fence, or
2) Remove the fence, apply for a permit for placement of the fence in a compliant location and reinstall the fence after receiving the zoning permit, or
3) Apply for a variance to allow for a fence within a No Built/No Disturb Area.

After receiving this letter I immediately contacted Mae Fence, who stated that they would work with me on this and help to apply for a variance so we could keep the fence. I began working with Jeanette F at Mae Fence who I was told would be assisting me during this process. We went through the steps up until the fees for the variance came into question. Jeanette informed me that Tim, the owner of Mae Fence, would be willing to split the fees associated with filing for this variance which could amount to a total of $1200 - this consisted of a $800 fee to file for a development plan amendment a $400 fee to file for the variance. After hearing this I questioned as to why we would be responsible for any of these fees and that is when Jeanette ceased communication with me via email.

After not receiving any response back from Jeanette through email I called her on May 15th to discuss the matter. Jeanette then informed me that Tim had asked her to stop responding to me and that he would contact me back. She also stated that Tim was unwilling to pay for any more than half of the variance fees.

Had we, the homeowners, known that the application was denied back in September of 2014, we could have made an informed decision as to whether or not we wanted the fence.

----------------------------------

I would expect Mae Fence to do the following to resolve this situation:

1) Pay all fees to get the fence approved and kept in place, or
2) Tear down fence and pay us back the amount we paid for the fence.

Mae Fence Company Response • May 24, 2019

We are working with Mr. to get fence approved.

Revdex.com:

I reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ***. They are assisting me currently with getting my fence approved. However, if the fence variance is DENIED, I will expect Mae Fence to remove the fence from my property and reimburse me for the cost of the fence due to their extreme negligence.

Regards

Mae was contracted to install a fence on our neighbors yard. This work caused damage to my property and to date they not offered to refund the expenses I incurred due to this work and replace a section of fence that was taken from my property. I was trying to work through a sales coordinator but that has gone quiet. While removing the previous fence, they dropped the fence on my shrubs that are now listing from the fence landing on them. From digging the new post holes and using my beds for the spoils, I had to remulch my beds (i was not planning to do so this year). The section of fence they removed from site is a section I removed to paint my house and can longer put back. I'm just looking to be reimbursed for my expenses and not the labor. I get things happen but I have voicemails and emails stating they received the complaint and Tim will call back. But over three months Tim hasn't done so.

Mae Fence Company Response • May 13, 2019

This is not a customer of Mae Fence, he is a neighbor that was angry the new fence was installed. He has made threats and wanted us to remove the fence and install a shorter version, claiming it did not meet city code. This is totally untrue, we were permitted and within code for the installed fence. The only shrubs that we touched were the foliage that encroached into the neighbors property. He has requested that we pay him $605, we will not.

I am not sure this meets criteria for Revdex.com complaint.

Thanks,

Tim

Complaint: 13552543

I am rejecting this response because:

Tim is correct I am not a customer but I am not an angry neighbor. This fence is a replacement fence so obviously not angry for the replacement. I am very frustrated at the lack of care for the neighboring property (i.e. mine). Please find attached four photos (i couldn't add a fifth).

- My back yard was used as his companies staging area. This caused damaged to my lawn and shrubs as they walked through many times. I didn't capture a photo of them wheel barrowing through my yard with concrete also.

- I had mulch previously in all my beds. As you can see from the attached photos, I was left with soil from his installation. Clearly in my yard not his clients.

- Trambled shrub that was not touching the fence, still a couple feet away. This was caused when his team stepped on it and dropped the previous fence on it.

- Damaged shrub, broken limbs, when his team again dropped another fence piece on this.

- What I can't show is the fence section and post from my fence that was in my bed from a house painting project. I no longer have this section as his team removed it with this project.

I'm not angry, I just want to made whole from his lack of professional installation of this fence replacement. I've been told many times that he would call to discuss but clearly he has not interest in this as i'm not a client but I was forced to start the conversation as his team damaged my property.

Regards

The fence and the landscaping look very nice (much improved with the new fence!). We will drop off material ASAP for the small wood section. Thanks

Customer Response • Jun 05, 2019

Hello ***,

I just received your note that you are closing out this ticket. “The business addressed the issues within the complaint, but the consumer either (a) did not accept the response, OR (b) did not notify Revdex.com as to their satisfaction.” Mae Fence never addressed the leaning shrubs or removal of the mulch, they only pointed out the missing fence section. Did I miss this response?

Please advise.

Unprofessional, unreliable, unkind and uncaring. No show this AM (5-9-19). We scheduled 4-8-19, sent survey 4-19-19. They didn't bother to file for the permit in time then tried to blame the city. They did not let us know until 30 min before the scheduled arrival. Rearranged our work schedule to be there for the beginning of the install. In this day and age it is easy to communicate issues and problems and completely irresponsible to give us zero notice. They hung up on us and then refused service because we are difficult to deal with. Owner refuses to take calls, Jeanette the manager refuses to take responsibility for her inaction or try to make it good. She completely dropped the ball and could not care less. She didn't appreciate her being told (her words, repeatedly )she did not do her job and this was on her. We're not asking for monetary compensation just a fence before something tragic happens. I guess expecting integrity from a company is unreasonable. Our fence was damaged in a wind storm, We have a pool and THEY have now created a very unsafe situation and we are in violation of both city and state code not to mention the potential liability on their part for dropping the ball and not preforming agreed upon services. RUN, RUN AWAY, find another company. It may cost a little more but their cheap price is not worth the headache or aggravation.

THIS REVIEW IS FROM A RUDE, ARROGANT, FOUL MOUTHED CUSTOMER WE REFUSED TO WORK WITH!!! We never installed a fence or had a full deposit (15% of the required 50%). (Should have been the first red flag) Original contract stated that we are not getting permit. We called to see if customer received variance for an 8' high fence that is not allowed in Upper Arlington. They did not and then asked us to get the permit 5/3. We rushed the permit and tried getting approved before the installation date. The reason we are refusing service is because I will not allow a customer to treat my hard working employees the way she did. I gladly returned the deposit and ate all costs associated with this job.
