Magazine Agency Reviews (56)

Review: In response to a phone call, I purchased an annual subscription to USWeekly magazine back in April of 2013. I then received a verification call on April **, 2013 from Magazine Agency at which time they debited my checking account for $123.76. During that call, I was promised an additional FREE 12-issue subscription to W magazine, 7 issues of Taste of Home magazine and a $200 gas certificate that would be sent to me in monthly installments. I then received a confirmation letter of this subscription order, which I have in my possession. Because I already have a subscription to USWeekly, I was told that it would be tacked onto the end of my current subscription but I would receive the other items immediately. Unfortunately, things got busy and I forgot about all of the other items until about a month ago. I tried calling the Magazine Agency and left messages but never got a return call. Today I finally looked on the Revdex.com website and saw what I had feared all along. I got screwed. I want this $123.76 credited back to my checking account and I want this Magazine Agency shut down.Desired Settlement: I would like the Revdex.com to investigate "Magazine Agency" to see if they truly exist but in the meantime, I would be satisfied with a complete credit to my debit card of $123.76 or a cashier's check in the same amount.

Sincerely,

Review: My name is [redacted]. On June [redacted], I placed an order with Magazine Agency to renew my ESPN subscription. Later on in the day, I would learn that it would be cheaper for me if I renewed my subscription with ESPN.com directly. The next day I spoke to a rep from Magazine Agency named [redacted] about canceling the service. She said it was okay, that I was within the cancelation period, and said that I should expect a call back from her with a reference number showing the refund processed by Monday June [redacted]. I never heard back from her.

She said I could call her at ###-###-#### but every time I tried to call her I get the "its a high call volume" message. I also tried reaching her via the main phone number at ###-###-####, but I get the same message. I did leave a voice mail for an update but I received no response back. I tried to reach out to [redacted] again the following week and I spoke to a rep who told me that I actually need to fax over a signed letter stating my intention to cancel the service and request a refund. I was told to fax the signed letter over to ###-###-#### which I have a confirmation that it went through. I sent that fax on June [redacted].

Then, on June [redacted], I received a phone call from phone number ###-###-####. It was from a woman telling me about my request for a refund. Unfortunately, there was a lot of background noise so it was difficult to hear what the woman was saying. I asked her if she could repeat what she said but the call got dropped. I tried redialing the number again but I could not get through. The message stated "this phone jack number's voice mail box is full."

Every week since then, I called both the ###-###-#### and the ###-###-#### phone numbers and each time I get the "we're experiencing a high call volume" message and have to leave a voice mail. I also have been sending them e-mails for an update on the status of my refund. This has been going on for over four weeks.

It reached a point where I had to dispute the charge with my bank. I faxed to my bank the copy of the mailed receipt, the e-mails that I sent, and the signed letter that I faxed over to the Magazine Agency. I got a letter back from my bank saying that I need to send them a copy of the Magazine Agency's cancellation policy. The problem is the merchant does not have a website where that policy is disclosed. Plus the back of the mailed receipt does not disclose what that cancellation policy is either. All I know is when I spoke to [redacted] on June [redacted] and to the other rep the following week that I was within the cancellation period. I essentially don't have anything to give to my bank about the cancellation policy to help with my dispute claim.

All I want is for my credit card to be refunded $70.20. I have made diligent efforts to try to get this issue resolved with Magazine Agency by calling numerous times, sending e-mails, and faxing over my refund request. It is extremely difficult to get in contact with a live person from the company and it feels like I am being scammed. I am left with no choice but to file a complaint with the Revdex.com.

I would like a resolution to this issue. My name is [redacted]. My cell phone number is ###-###-####. My e-mail address is [redacted] The transaction date of the $70.20 charge is 06/**/13 and the Magazine Agency account number is [redacted].Desired Settlement: The Magazine Agency has a responsibility to refund $70.20 back to my credit card. I have made multiple attempts to try to reach the merchant to get this issue resolved and I have not received any feedback or call backs. I feel, due to my diligence and the timing, that I am entitled to a refund. I have already renewed my subscription to ESPN for a much lower price and Magazine Agency has to refund me as I put the request within 30 days of the charge.

[Your Answer Here]

According to a representative named [redacted], who contacted me a couple weeks ago, Magazine Agency is undergoing a company transition which is causing a delay in processing my refund. I gave her my cell phone number to contact me but I have not yet heard back from her regarding the refund. I have been calling the customer service line to try to reach out to [redacted] or any other rep, but I keep getting their voice mail. It has now been over two weeks since that time.

Sincerely,

Review: I accepted their offer to get 3 magazine subscriptions and a smart saver gas certificate for $300.00 and paid $89.64 to them. I asked for gas certificates and sent the information by certified mail to them on June **, 2013. I have not received the gas certificate as of this date. There is no phone number listed to call them. *Desired Settlement: Receive the smart saver gas certificate for $300.00

Sincerely,

Review: I believe this company is a total scam. I purchased the subscription, have paid in full and did not receive the magazine nor the "free" gas the advertisement promised. I have since looked them up and found multiple people with the same issues and an F rating here. My senses tell me they are running a scam and I'm out the money.Desired Settlement: A refund of my money or more importantly prosecution of the owners of this company.

I tried contacting them via e-mail and telephone for a couple weeks but no luck, until I received a home recording to call ###-###-####, [redacted] that the $300.00 free gas card would be going out next week...I called the number and the phone number is out of service.

I also tried calling ###-###-#### but out of service.Desired Settlement: To prevent this from happening to anyone.

Sincerely,

Review: Magazine Agency called in March to sell me a subscription. They told me that I could get my magazine for 3yrs. at a price of $89.64 along with a $300.00 gas voucher. The magazine has started but the expiration date says 2yrs. meaning my subscription is being shorted 1yr. Also I sent in all the information to receive a $300.00 gas voucher in which I was supposed to receive back in June. I called Magazine Agency in June and was told that they never ordered the gas voucher but they would order it and I should receive it by Sept. ** . I still have not received this gas voucher.Desired Settlement: Follow through with subscription for 3yrs. and send me the $300.00 gas voucher as promised.

Review: On June *, 2013 the Magazine Agency accepted my credit card amount of $51.25 for a subscription for the following: Country Woman 36 issues Midwest Living 6 issues Weight Watchers 6 issues Gas Cert (free) - was supposed to get $30.00 a month until the amount of $300.00 was used up. my account #[redacted] with them. As of this date I have tried reaching them. They will not respond to my calls, they have not sent any of the magazines that I paid for. I have contacted my credit card company. They will not issue my credit card with a credit of $51.25. This Magazine Agency has scammed and stolen my money.Desired Settlement: Please see that I get my $51.25 refunded to my credit card account.

Consumer

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Magazine Agency regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

A [redacted] from the Magazine Agency (same number as when I was first contacted in June 2013 - ###-###-####) called me and said her company Synergy of California had taken over the Magazine Agency and that they had sent my magazines to a different address and that they had been returned to them and that they were going to correct the address and reissue the $300.00 gasoline certificate and that it would take about another two months for me to receive them and/or they were going to try to refund my money. As of this date I have not heard or received any magazines that I ordered. I do not accept this as being resolved at this time.

Then a couple of days later, I received a call from a person that said she was from Magazine Agency about my magazines and I mentioned the complaint against them and she said, "how do I know it was tem?".

So at this time this issue has not been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: I foolishly agreed to purchase an offer that included 3 magazine subscriptions plus a discount on gasoline purchases. I was not told that I must buy $100 worth of gasoline every month to receive the discount. When the info arrived in the mail, I - who buys about $55 worth of gas each month ( I am an elderly lady who owns a small automobile), immediately called to cancel. The $89.70 charge was logged onto my credit card account on July **. I called to cancel on August * at 1:10 P.M. and was given a cancellation number of [redacted]. I have called their contact number 3 times, was told operators were busy with other customers and would call me, No return calls! Apparently they are aware that I have cancelled because no magazines have arrived. I believe that they were not up front with me about the gasoline deal, and I am entitled to receive a full refund of my payment.

Review: I ordered and paid for subscriptions to three magazines from this agency on April **, 2013. Their invoive claims the subscriptions might take 30 to 120 days to begin. It has now been 159 days. I have received one of the subscriptions but not the other two. I have called numerous times. Originally, I was told "It takes time" to have the subscription recorded. Now, when I call, I only get an answering service which does not reply to my questions even though the prompt says they will call back. My account number with Magazine Agency is [redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the subscriptions or have my credit card credited for the amount of the magazines I have not received.

Review: On 6-**-2013, I was contacted via phone by Magazine Agency, with an offer of a 3 year subscription (36 months) of Playboy Magazine, an additional 2 magazine subscriptions, and choice of either a $300 Gas or Grocery Card. I chose the Grocery Card. I agreed to their terms, and was charged $89.64 on my Discover Charge Card. On 7-**-2013 I finally received paperwork from them, and the option of choosing various other secondary magazines, a total of being 2 optional magazine subscriptions besides Playboy Magazine. I chose Field and Stream (12 issues), and Motor Trend (12 issues). I contacted them via phone on 8-**-2013, explained that I wished these magazines listed above, and they agreed to my wishes-terms. On 9-**-2013 and 9-**-2013 I received two issues of Maxim Magazine, this was not the subscriptions I requested from them, nor at this point in time, 9-**-2013 have I received any other magazine subscriptions, or a $300 Grocery Card, or Gas Card. From 9-**-2013 till today, 9-**-2013 I have tried to contact them via phone at ###-###-#### and got a recording that said this line was disconnected, and no longer in service. I do believe without a doubt that I have been scammed by this company-service.Desired Settlement: At this point,, I desire a refund to my Discover Credit Card for the full amount that I was charged, and a cancelation of any services from this company.

Review: Agency contacted me in July 2013 with offer for savings on magazine subscriptions. Made an agreement and on 7/**/13 the agency charged my account $88.20. In November 2013 I had received nothing and contacted the agency. Was told new subscription could not start until old one expired (September 2013) and subscription should start in 6 - 8 weeks. January **, 2014 sent e-mail to agency to cancel everything because I still had received nothing. No response. January **, 2014 (Saturday) received a phone call @ 7pm from a third party to say the subscription would be starting. I explained my cancelling of the agreement and while doing so the third party hung up on me. I've tried phone calls that go straight to a recording and 3 more e-mails asking for confirmation of ending our agreement and returning my funds. Nothing has happened. At this point I assume I have been scammed and am out the money originally taken from my account.Desired Settlement: If I could get my money back that would be great. If I could talk to someone from the agency it mioght help. I'm not expecting either. At this point I want to get a complaint lodged against the company so maybe someone else won't be taken advantage of as I was.

Review: I was called on 2-**-13 by Magazine agency. I ordered a magazine subscription and was told I would get 2 additional magazines subscriptions for free and a $300 gas card. I was told they would send me a $30 gas card every month. I started receiving 2 of the subscriptions that I ordered but not the 3rd one or the gas card. I called the company 2 times and have emailed them multiple times with no response. I looked them up on the Revdex.com website and seen there are complaints from other customers who are having the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.Desired Settlement: Send me my 3rd subscription and the gas card that were promised.

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Magazine Agency regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because: What they are offering is not what I agreed to over the phone. I was told they would send me a $25 gas card every month automatically not that I had to spend $100 each month then submit my receipt to receive a gift card. They told me it was in the small print but when you agree to something over the phone there is no small print to read.

Review: On 3/**/13 I received a call from a representative of Magazine Agency. I agreed to renew my subscription of Discover Magazine, new subscriptions of Popular Science, Natural Health, and a $300 Gasoline Cash-Saving program. I paid $59.95, and the subscription order was confirmed. I have not received any of the magazines. I have mailed the certificate to register for the gas-savings program and have received nothing. I contacted the Agency on 6/**/13 and was told the gas certificate should have already come in the mail . . . another copy would be sent in 4-6 weeks. I have still not recieved anything. (I have watched the mail carefully for any correspondence). I am no longer able to get a person to speak to - only a customer service recording. I have left two messages.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund. At this point, I am not confident that this company can or will deliver any of the products / services. I believe they are operating unethically.

Called four times in June 2013. Received called from agency stating that they made a clerical error and the account was put on hold. Review: Sat card billed Feb on 7/* for a magazine they said I don't want to miss an issue on when in fact I had not subscribed since 2010. $78 is not a huge amount of money unless you are paying [redacted] bills. Monday called to cancel as my wife has [redacted] and I have health issues and may not last five years. Called several times to cancel , left message and actually later talked to someone. 6 months after my card was charged, called the magazine's publishers and they have no record of mags being ordered in my name. Charged, can't cancel and no mags ordered. Lady calls a month ago saying it was a foul up and I would get a refund for the mags that were never ordered and everything straightened out. Nothing happened, no refund , no response to email or calls.Desired Settlement: Refund of money taken for nothing.
