The worst plumbing experience in our home owning history!
Mainstream Plumbing in Spokane, Wa is the worst and most unprofessionally run plumbing repair organization I have ever dealt with. Owned several houses so far. Overcharges, justifies their poor work by blaming the homeowner first, twice as expensive as their competitors, and worst of all recommends parts and services you don't need and to cap it all off - refuses to refund money on supposedly prerecorded conversations they won't show you transcripts of and didn't receive your permission to record. Run and run quickly away from these rip-offs.

The Worst Kind of Bad
We just bought a house and had concerns about the sewer. Even though we had had it scoped during our home inspection, we wanted a second opinion. Mainstream sends out this joker who proceeds to make a show of scoping our sewer line while somehow playing a video of a line scope that wasn't even our line! It included sections that were almost completely collapsed. After getting my wife upset, the guy proceeds to hit her with the hard sale (i.e. 'Financing is available' and 'we'll fix this quick!). Our original home inspector had to come out and prove that his scope was the real one. Mainstream didn't return my calls afterwards. Stay away! These guys tried a very elaborate scheme to sell us a new sewer line we didn't need. I don't know who writes these reviews, but don't believe them! Instead, ask any local contractors, plumbers, real estate agents, etc. Among people "in the know," Mainstream has a well known and well deserved reputation for ripping people off. What they tried on us is a very elaborate scheme, so BEWARE!

10 Months of Hell
DO NOT go with Mainstream unless you want 10 months of Hell! Here is our story:
Moved into new (to us) home in August of 2021, got through the winter fine with 20+ year old electric furnaces (2.) Come end of February 2022 we though we weren’t quite getting as much heat as we should out of one unit and called for a technician from Mainstream to come out. The technician said there were a few elements not working and that we could fix the parts for fairly cheap but recommended we replace both units as they were older and they had a deal going. An hour or so later a sales guy came to the house and showed us the February deal and we decided to add 2 AC units as well as the house never had AC. My mistake not having multiple companies out here but they were fairly pushy and it was “the last day of the sale” and promised me they could literally have the units installed the next day. I asked the salesman multiple times why we couldn’t install heat pumped instead of an AC unit and he said it wasn’t possible with our setup but that we would have “more comfortable heat and way less expensive electric bill” (the first big lie.) $30,000+ later we agreed to the 2 new electric furnaces ad AC units.

Of course the parts weren’t in for the promised next day install (another lie) and the crew showed up a few days later and worked to install the new furnaces. Electrical wasn’t done until late that night (6 pm) and wasn’t done properly as nothing in our house worked. It took 15 days and 5 different technicians to come out and finally get heat to work in our house as our two young children had to sleep in bed with us to keep warm and even then we weren’t getting “heat” we were getting lukewarm, room temperature air coming out of the vents. That was still an improvement over the AC we had when they first installed and we survived. Another call and visit needed them to fix the electrical run for the AC units as they literally laid it on the ground along our house, not under the deck as we discussed.

Admittedly we made it through summer with no AC issues but as soon as the cold came again this fall we were getting air coming out of the vents at 58 degrees or so and wasn’t heating our house and running 24/7. Again, multiple technicians coming out trying to solve the problem with at least 3 of them telling me that we should have installed heat pumps, to which I told them YOU said we couldn’t! After approximately 20 different calls and 12-15 different house visits that didn’t fix the problem I was forced to drive to the office and speak with the CEO, Todd, about my complaints. I was informed that neither the original technician or salesman who told me I couldn’t get heat pumps were with the company anymore but that he would “do whatever it takes to make it right” even if that meant brand new units or heat pumps.

A whole crew came back out to the house and figured out one of the furnaces never had the correct part installed from the get go, 9 months prior! We had heat through one furnace for a night then that went out and a week later the technician came back and said the other furnace never had the part from the factory either. So we were paying for services for 9 months that were never installed. Also this lead technician said “this may give you some heat but it won’t be very efficient or effective. Give it a few weeks then demand heat pumps be installed, that is what we should do for you.”

Well here I am giving it a few weeks with cold air still blowing through our vents anytime the units kick out, causing us to run a wood burning fireplace 24/7 on top of our brand new units. You would think at least we would be saving money? NOPE. We have spent $100+ per month than we did with the old units and not just price we are using 2500+ more kWhs of energy per month with comparable temperatures than we did with old units. We were promised more comfortable heat with a much less expensive electric bill and we have neither and spent $30,000+ with 9 months or literally nothing installed correctly. STAY AWAY FROM MAINSTREAM!

I was just told that because we are technically getting heat out of our vents (after cold air pushes through for 1-2minutes) then there is nothing Todd or Mainstream can do for us, going back on what he told me in their office. And am waiting a phone call from them as they have been dodging my contacts. I can’t warn you enough, stay away.

+1

Prompt, friendly service. My technician, Shane C, kept me apprised of all aspects of my repairs and answered all my questions. He was exceptionally thorough. When the work was completed, he cleaned up all areas. I have been using Mainstream for the past 15 years and have never been disappointed. Great service.

Saw their ad on TV to do a AC tuneup and then a furnace tuneup in the fall for $80. Called them up and they had someone out the next day to check it out.
After the inspection, he came up with a crazy list of items for repair on a system that seemed to be working fine. He claimed the fan was pulling too many amps, the capacitor wasn't working right and it was low on Freon. He said the costs to replace the fan and capacitor would be about $2,700 and the Freon they couldn't top off, which meant we may want to consider replacing the entire unit for over $6,000 since it was so old. (10 years old)
Asked for the info in writing, which he wouldn't do (first red flag), then when I questioned him about the Freon which I've had topped off for our commercial systems at work, he gave some dubious answers.
I then paid another company that I've used in the past that I know to be trustworthy to check the AC and verify the results. Not surprisingly, the Freon wasn't low and if it were, they would have topped it off right then. The amps on the fan were exactly where they should be and the capacitor was functioning as expected. Furthermore the unit is only 10 year old, so he said it basically still hasn't another 10 years of life in it. I asked what would be the cost to do the repairs Mainstream was recommending. Around $500 with labor he said. Nowhere near the $2,700 Mainstream was trying to overcharge for.
I called Mainstream, and said I don't want them to come back again and I want a refund for the waste of time since they did nothing but make up false claims. The technician didn't even clean the fins on the AC unit.
They were very apologetic, said they would handle it right away, I would get a call back and a refund. Nope. Nothing. Must just be the way they do business I guess. Never again will I work with Mainstream.

We called Mainstream as our newer A/C unit in our new home was making a rattling noise and cooling poorly. The technician informed us that our problem was that the A/C unit is a 5 ton and our furnace system is a 3 ton...apparently they need to match in size in order to work properly. He told us that we would need a new A/C and the cost would be 6-8k. We called in someone else for a second opinion and they were able to verify with a parts warehouse using the serial and model number that our furnace and A/C are both 5 ton units. Either the technician was incompetent or a liar. Needless to say, we chose the other company to handle our issue.

Dear ***,
Thank you so much for this same exact review on 3 online sites: Facebook, Google, and now the Revdex.com. I checked in with the technician's service manager, & indeed, you are correct. After reviewing photos and notes of your visit, there's no denying that your furnace and a/c are both 5 ton units. While it may seem like lip service, we are sincerely grateful for your feedback. Your technician has been a heating and cooling service technician for over 25 years and is typically a very knowledgable one too. We aren't sure what happened that day. Clearly his head was not in the game, and your concerns have been brought to his attention. Mainstream stands behind its people, and if we screw up we'll say so ... we are human, after all. Mainstream strives for excellence, as you'll note from our early 900 google reviews and over 3300 5-star reviews between FB, the Revdex.com, Google, and another source (link found on our website). So sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you again for taking the time to share a candid review.
Sincerely, Elaine, President

Thank you for the review, and especially appreciate your business! Thrilled to hear you had a wonderful experience:)) sincerely, Elaine, President

We had Mainstream over for our Spring AC/furnace tune up. Jim K, our technician that day arrived and we began. We stayed downstairs to watch and listen to Jim discuss issues related to our furnace. He was the most thorough tech we have ever had. He opened doors and explained parts. He mentioned possible trouble areas that may need attention. We discussed the possibility of a major repair or new system install. No pressure, just information. Our system is twelve years old and soon may need replacement. Next, we visited our AC unit which is also (12) and leaking coolant. Not sure whether it was from the AC or furnace.. Anyway, he indicated our days are numbered for staying cool. A previous tech miswired our AC fan which was sucking air in! Not sure which tech performed that ‘miracle!’ Finally, Jim showed us some proposals for a new HVAC system and super flexible financing for those experiencing employment issues due to Covid19. This appointment lasted three hours and my charge was under $100. Thanks Jim for all your expertise, experience, and customer service.
