Matrix did a great job on my basement. They came up with a great plan and were very proactive in making sure all options were covered. After the contract was signed I had no more additional charges. Again, being proactive and checking for possible issues like having enough electricity, adequate havac set up, and even outside services like concrete repair were all brought up prior to starting the work so there were no more delays or added charges.

Jerry,

Thank you for the wonderful review and very happy to hear! Thank you for your business and support.

Take Care

Overall experience was very good. We have an older home and hit a few set backs. Shawn *** and his team handled the issues professionally and left us with a beautiful finished basement. We recommend using Matrix we are very satisfied.

They are amazing. We had some bumps in the beginning, but Steve our Foreman has been absolutely amazing, he has solved any issues we had with great professionalism. I would highly recommended them in a heart beat, work quality is Top Notch!

They didn’t keep their contract. They didn’t start on time or at all. They didn’t provide an accurate free floor plan as advertised. They ignored that there was no authorization and yet after the initial consult to get general design ideas and any actual decisions made after the first consult were considered change orders despite no plans being in place whatsoever. After non performance, I emailed I’d like my money back due to non performance. They asserted I needed to be patient, and stated they were so busy and I needed to find time to drive to their office to finalize the floor plans. In fact they tolled the deadline but still did not perform, and continued the coerce me with promises of a beautiful basement all the while demanded additional payment for additional down payment for a drop ceiling that wasn’t contemplated on initial consult. In good faith I paid this, they made verbal promised of date start , but stated they could not provide a new start date till they presented the actual working set of floor plans. One week later the plane were again incorrect, and yet still stated if signed, the homeowner was responsible for all floor plan mistakes.

I emailed that they hadn’t performed not kept their contract terms or advertising promises, that I had lost faith and wanted to have my deposit returned due to their lack of reliable plans to be able to do the work.

To which they demanded I receive materials for them to store at my house. And this would have put me in an obligation position and so I refused until they presented the plans which they never did. At that juncture the owner threatened to deliver to my driveway materials despite my objection, to which this forceful dictum was frightening to me, and I called the police whom told me to refuse delivery.

They refused to provide a floor plan. They failed to start on date promised. They lied regularly. They threatened me. They didn’t provide pamphlets required by state of Illinois. They refused to refund

To the Revdex.com:

This customer is not stating the facts and in fact is flat out lying in some cases. We were and still are prepared to start her project when she gives us access to the house but she has denied that over and over again. She has been given the plans per the original contract and the change order and we will perform that work per our contract. If the customer wants to make changes to that, we will accommodate that and give her the price do so. This project is pretty cut and dry but the customer flat out has not let us start and quite frankly with the interactions we have had with her we are not sure why and do not get a clear answer. At one point she wanted to cancel the project and get her money back but per federal law and our contract she far passed the right of rescission and we have 30% cancellation policy. At this point the customer has filed suit against us and we will handle the liquidation of the contract legally. She is also referencing materials we only need to legal provide to customers that sign out contracts in Illinois, he contract was a Michigan contract and we gave her everything the state of Michigan requires.

The Revdex.com has nothing to with this case nor can you do anything. The Revdex.coms purpose is to make sure customer and business are taking and working through the situation which we have always been available to do and will keep doing. We are sorry to hear the customer wants to fight the contract in court but we are prepared to do so or even talk to her outside of the court system to find an amicable solutions that is within the law.

Please close this complaint and make sure it does not show up on our A+ Revdex.com record. We are business that handles any situation with our customer quickly, we cannot control when customers do not want to respond to us or do not want to follow the contract laws that we as a company believe are very serious and should be followed.

Attached you will find the paperwork from the court. Again we would have prefer to just start the project with the customer and have her pay for any changes to the contract she wanted. Also we were very clear on the timeline and process of our company that is spelled out in all our documents we give the customer.

Great company to work with. They were very open with communication, hardly any guessing as to who would be where, when. All of the trades they employ were very courteous and professional. They were efficient and timely. Attention to detail and the extra personal touches by the carpenter team was a bonus. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking to have their basement finished as well!
Jamie was a great resource through the whole process. We are very impressed and love our new living space!

They just finished half of my basement, nice job done. High efficiency, easy to communicate, really nice.

Matrix was a great company to work with. Jordan was our sales rep and he took the time (4 hours) to really create the floor plan we wanted. Steve was our main contact once the project started. He was extremely approachable and helpful as well. Martinez as well who did the drywall was amazing. He took the time to do a great job.

Very good job that was done to my basement both time. This is the only company I would recommend for anything who want their basement done. Keep up the good work excellent work done!!!

Matrix finished our basement! They were fantastic to work with! They were reasonable in price, prompt in service, and very reliable! I love our new basement. I would highly recommend to anyone!

Thank you for the great review and your business.

All the people we came into contact with at Matrix were wonderful! Ben was the main guy on site and he was great. We appreciated his communication about the upcoming steps and what to expect next throughout the process.
A special thank you to Anthony and Jay! Anthony was the foreman who handled all the scheduling and answered questions via phone. We don’t know how Anthony juggles it all, but he did and was readily available to us when we needed him. We met Jay closer to the end of the project. Jay is very knowledgeable and his work is exemplary! We are happy with the overall work that was completed in our basement and have received many compliments. The foam insulation they use is also very effective - our basement is now the warmest room in our house!

I hired Matrix Basement to finish a portion of my basement, including an addition of a bathroom. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, especially for the price. When people use my restroom that Matrix installed, they laugh at how ridiculous it looks.
• Was told to order materials for my bathroom but when the plumber came he then told me that I'd ordered the wrong materials despite ordering exactly what I was told. I had a day to run around town, rent a truck, and return and re-buy items like my shower and bath-tub.
• No approved layout of bathroom before work was done!!!! How can any contract worker do construction WITHOUT an approved layout? In the beginning there was a lot of pressure to sign the layout so I took it very seriously. I was told material wouldn't be ordered without a signed layout yet all of the work on my bathroom was completed despite my communication with the foremen that I was NOT ok to approve the bathroom layout but the work kept progressing.
? Added for a cut-out to allow for shelves to alleviate the lost square footage due to poor planning. I told the PM I wanted to be able to store towels. The "shelves" that were added are actually just a cubby and aren't even large enough to store 1 towel. He reminded me that I wasn't paying for them anyway… instead of fixing it to what we had discussed.
? Hard to access clean out drain for upstairs bathroom so they notched out my drywall vs re arranging layout despite my many concerns. Very unattractive looking. Trim above the door in the bathroom had to be made removable. This was especially concerning since I could hear my foreman discussing with the workers that "that never should have happened" and "the framing guys should have caught that" so I know the work isn't correct.
? Trim that was installed is very messy looking in the bathroom
• Broke back door to home was broken and took a month and a half for them to replace what they'd broken.
• Door handle height for the bathroom was extremely low; the door had been trimmed over a foot from the bottom only. They assured me that it was normal and ok. After I continued to express concern they agreed to get me a replacement door with an appropriately heighted handle.
• Prior to the project I had the electrical work done with a trusted source, I'm glad I did… Matrix removed electrical outlets and light switches that I had paid someone else to install. They added back the switch that they removed but still haven't reimbursed me for the outlets they removed without my consultation. Also, the lights in my basement are constantly flickering now, not a problem I had prior to their work.
• There was a can light outside of my bathroom that was moved and replaced hanging only by one (bent) nail. After many requests they finally hung it more safely though not in-line with the other lights in the hallway.
• My original project scope didn't include crown molding but I have it now... I didn't want upper molding as my upstairs doesn’t have it and I wanted the floors to be as similar as possible. When the drywall was finished I noticed the top was where the drywall was trimmed, so it was covered in jagged edges.
• Had to give my own personal paint to cover the mess made by the spray foam team AND to fix mess ups that the team had made with spray paint on my ceiling. They also asked me if I had paint brushes they could use…
• Communications were last minute and/or non-existent unless I asked (trash pick-up, electricians, general visits)
• After all of this they asked me to sign the project completion form and I said I wouldn't. It's Nov11 and My project was started on 4Sep and I'm still missing outlet covers? Paint touch-up are still needed… I asked 3 different people at Matrix who I could talk to about the project and nobody will meet with me to discuss my concerns.
• In the original contract I was told that the work would be consecutive days, this was also not the case. There would be several days between when workers would show up. Some of the crew was very nice, but others were very immature, farting in the room while I was reviewing the basement. There was one day when I had gotten home, the work was done for the day and my egress window was left WIDE OPEN. I had to vacuum and wipe down the usable spaces of the basement after they were done because the place was left dirty and covered with debris.
• I have a clean-out hole on my floor from having new drain tile installed, somehow the workers broke a cover for the hole and then didn't replace the cover (even though I told my foreman about it) before installing the carpet.
• When the carpet was installed I was walking around and my foot was stabbed by the carpet spikes, when I expressed concern to the foreman he came in and hammered all of the spikes… now if the carpet has to be released for some reason it is now locked downed and maybe hard to do without damaging the carpet. He should have pulled up the carpet and shimmed the pins so they didn’t stick out as much, or called back his carpet crew to do the job right, the spikes were sticking out around half of the room.
After all of this I asked for a 15% discount and to speak to someone. I was offered 200 dollars and nobody will arrange a discussion with me, despite me asking my foreman, PM, and my design consultant. The 200 dollars wouldn't even make up for the electrical work that they undid... I left a review on their main site to try and get someone to contact me... My review wasn't even posted.

+1

We needed to update our existing basement and could not have been happier that we chose Matrix to do the work. They took the time to consult with us as to our needs and arrived with a plan that encompassed all of our needs. Our project was made all of the more difficult because our basement includes a fully functional model railroad layout that could not be moved and the workers could not have been better in working around this obstacle. Daniel and Victor were two of the most hardworking and meticulous individuals that you could ever ask for. Their attention to detail was outstanding. They handled those inevitable issues that arose very professionally and kept us informed every step of the way. We could not have been more pleased with Matrix Basements.

Great work. Highly recommend for basement remodeling. Team was fast and polite.

Matrix people are so polite and professional. Ben the carpenter is a great guy with top notch skills in carpentry . the attention to detail is amazing including the electrician , plumbing, ventilation company , dry wall people etc . Brian is always on top of things and scheduling keeps you on the loop every step of the way . Very systematic and precise . No false promises they are the basement people at its best . Im so happy they did ours!

We had a great experience with Matrix Basements! We were able to track the full project schedule on the app that they provide and our project went smoothly and finished on-time. Every person that came to our house was personable and professional. They would let me know when they were coming/going and were always courteous to my 3 kids. I would recommend this company to any of our family and friends!

We had a phenomenal experience with Matrix. They worked with us right from the beginning to make great design choices and recommendations about what to do with our unfinished space. They were incredibly respectful of our budget and offered cost saving ideas and options for financing. Once the work began, they were incredibly efficient and kept us informed every step of the way. The trades were skilled, friendly, professional and kept our house clean. We are so incredibly pleased with our final result. They are a first class company to work with!

Overall process was extremely smooth and easy. It was overwhelming to try to do this project but with Matrix I didn't have to worry about anything. Going over how I wanted the basement to look and getting the window seat I always wanted and a secret office room was an easy, hassle free process and once the work started things happened fast. I'm extremely grateful to my project manager *** who is very easy to get in touch with and quickly replies to any questions I had along the way. No need to worry about permits or inspections or scheduling electricians or plumbers, Matrix takes care of it all. It would have been impossible for me to do the basement on my own and sell my condo all at the same time but having the project managed for you from start to finish made all the difference. *** was a phenomenal contractor that always went about and beyond every time he showed up for work. Super grateful for *** who was on site for my final day of inspection! Everyone that Matrix hired was friendly, professional, on time and always left the basement clean once they were completed. I would highly recommend anyone looking to get their basement done to use Matrix!

Quick and efficient. The team worked within the timeframe they estimated even during the worst of the winter weather. Loved the customization optionz, especially the blackout ceiling which gives a modern touch and more openness to the entire space. Shout out to Oscar and Romero, they were very professional and went above and beyond. One small upgrade we would reconsider for next time is better flooring. The vinyl faux wood floor panels did not keep the space warm or floor cushioned.c

Love the final product! Matrix is easy to work with.
