Review: On 10/16/14, McCarthy Services (McCarthy) serviced my gas furnace. Their tech informed me at the time of the service call that I needed a new ignitor for my furnace. So, I purchased a new ignitor from National Furnace Parts at a cost of $38.14. On 10/22/14, I elected to have a different company, [redacted] Heating and Air ([redacted]), install the new ignitor. The tech from [redacted] informed me that the exisitng ignitor was prefectly fine and did not need to be replaced. This service call cost me $85.00. After that, I called McCarthy to complain that their tech gave me the wrong information. Whether the tech gave me this information to induce me to buy the ignitor from McCarthy and have McCarthy perform the installation at additional cost, I do not know. In any case, another tech from McCarthy came out to my home on 10/28/14 to inspect the ignitor. He found the ignitor operational and not in need of replacement. Following that inspection, I called McCarthy demanding reimbursement in the amount of $123.14 for the cost of the new, but unneeded, ignitor and the cost of the [redacted] service call.Since then, McCarthy has repeatedly assured me that they would send me a check for $123.14. Then, they told me that the check would have to come from corporate which is in a different state. Then they told me that corporate had a sent a check; but, to date, I have received no check from corporate.I have been patiently waiting since 10/28 for a reimbursement check that still has not been delivered to me.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement of $123.14 immediatedly for unnecessary out of pocket costs.

McCarthy Plumbing, Electrical , Heating and Air Conditioning is the best company, best services you can get around. It's located in 8198 Terminal Rd Suite 100 Lorton Virginia 22079. Services Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland. Randall D. is a very well mannered and very Profesional in dealing my Plumbing issues. The services we received is AWESOME, he works really hard and knows right away on what needs to be done. We're very happy of the job he did to us and very excited that this is done. Thank you Randall D. Job well done. Thank you McCarthy we're truly honored and Happy to know your company and services. Keep up the good work.

Kevin W[redacted] is a real asset to McCarthy Services - and to the world of HVAC. Not only is he knowledgable about the systems he services, he does the job with such kindness and grace. Kevin would be an excellent mentor to the next generation of service technicians. Though the company as a whole does not always get the highest marks (more on that at another time), Kevin deserves the highest possible praise.

McCarthy representative, Timothy T[redacted]r, did my winter check on my approximately 10+year old furnace. He was very professional, thorough and knowledgeable. As usual the service cost me a little more out of pocket, but Tim demonstrated that the furnace was working more efficiently, and ensured that all my concerns were addressed. As a result, I was truly happy with the results being a nice warm home. I received excellent service from Timothy T[redacted]r. I can truly say that the quality of service I have received from McCarthy over the years has been consistent.

Review: I am writing concerning a number of issues I encountered involving the installation of two HVAC systems by McCarthy Home Services in my home this winter. I will outline them below:

I contracted to have two [redacted] furnaces and 17 [redacted] AC units installed in the upper and lower zones of my home on December 29, 2013. On the day of the installation, a sales rep changed the 2-stage furnace to be installed in the upper zone to a one-stage unit without my knowledge. Worse, the installers were not aware of the equipment they came to my home to install. They assumed they installed two 2-stage units and did not realize the miscommunication until after the unit was installed and attempted to test the function of the second stage of the furnace.

I worked with Tony B[redacted] to resolve the issue. The resolution involved an upgrade to parts of my system to make up for the downgrade of the upper level furnace and the gross miscommunications surrounding the installation.

I contacted Mr. B[redacted] repeatedly via email and telephone to inquire about the steps necessary to apply for the [redacted] rebate. He informed me that he would look into it and get back to me. I tried to follow up and my calls were not returned (I enclosed a copy of our e-mail conversations to this fact). I just learned from [redacted] that the contractor is responsible for submitting the necessary documents within 60 days of the installation. I therefore, require reimbursement from McCarthy for the $1,750—the amount of the rebate that would have been granted for my installations.

I learned from another HVAC company that [redacted] County, MD requires contractors to obtain an appropriate permit and arrange inspection of HVAC installations. I also asked Mr. B[redacted] about this. He responded with a vague answer and never followed-up. These permits and inspections are considered necessary for the safety of the residents and neighbors. Since McCarthy operates in [redacted] County, the company should be aware of the permit and inspection requirements and it is grossly irresponsible of McCarthy to violate this law. This also prevents me from applying for any property tax exemptions for which I may be elibile. I require that McCarthy arrange for the appropriate permit and inspection of these installed units as required by law. I will report McCarthy/ARS to the appropriate authorities for failure to comply.

The installation included the replacement of a [redacted] steam humidifier with a [redacted] evaporative humidifier. I expressed concern about obtaining a comfortable level of humidity with this type of humidifier. Mr. B[redacted] sent technicians to progam the thermostat to run continuously without relying on the call for heat. He did not explain the huge difference in the extent of water expulsion from the sump pump with an evaporative humidifer vs. a steam humidifier. The techs also did not check for the proper discharge of water from the sump-pump. A couple of months after the installation, my neighbor discovered a growing sink-hole by her driveway along the path of my sump-pump. I am concerned that the installation of the humidifier, coupled with programming it for continuous flow and not checking for proper discharge may have contributed to the sink-hole. If McCarthy had properly arranged for the inspection required by [redacted] County, this problem may have been avoided.

The agreement I entered into with McCarthy for the installation includes a one year maintenance schedule for each zone. I recently received a mailing and a phone call reminding me to renew my maintenance agreement, implying that McCarthy is failing to recognize that I already have one.

Also, most of the techs who have been sent to my home to address issues with the equipment or thermostat after installation have not been properly trained on the equipment that was installed. I therefore, have wasted valuable time meeting with techs who did not know how to service the issues there were coming to service.

In sum, I am requesting $1,750 from McCarthy for the [redacted] rebate plus interest rather than waiting any longer than I already have for the [redacted] process; $500 for the missed property tax rebates for your role in negating my eligibility plus interest; arrangement of the appropriate [redacted] County inspection at McCarthy’s expense; Confirmation of my one-year maintenance agreement and 10-year warranty on parts and labor; and an independent, professional structural assessment of the sinkhole and my sump-pump at McCarthy’s expense. I would also like to discuss the ARS guarantee as I am still not happy with several aspects of my current system.

I started HVAC services with McCarthy six years ago when I found it highly rated on Checkbook.org and [redacted]. I deeply disappointed about this experience and I now understand the considerable decline in ratings since then. As I mentioned, many of my attempts to contact Mr. B[redacted] have been unsuccessful. Even the technicians were not getting their calls returned. I prefer that whoever is assigned to follow up on these matters be alloted time to devote their undivded attention and to return calls and emails. I am also very busy and I do not have time to make repeated attemps to contact someone who is not getting back to me about what I consider to be important issues.Desired Settlement: Refund; replacement; repair

Randall D. was very professional and solved my plumbing issue after looking at all areas. Would definitely recommend McCarthy and Randall for all your plumbing issues.

Kevin Walker of McCarthy Services repaired our heat pump. He was professional, and fully prepared for the work required. Repairs were extensive, done efficiently and completely. An outstanding representative of the company.

Timothy T. checked my heating system/Furnace. He was extremely professional and I feel as though he did an excellent job. He was personable, displayed honesty and I highly recommend him. I will be requesting him to check my air conditioning.

Review: McCarthy has been to home to fix the NEW AC unit 4 times now the first starting within a week of insulation. Fast Forward to this week and they were here Thursday as the unit would not even turn on and the issue was blamed on a wiring issue. Then the unit went out again by Friday night and will not cool the home. They came out again on Sunday and again said oh the filter is dirty and said that it was fixed. A few hours later still hot as hell in the house. Called the tech that came out and was told he could not get someone out till tomorrow? What type of service is that you come out to fix something and then don't fix it and then are not even man enough to suck it up and come back after all other appointments to take care of your customers? I have to have this fixed by Monday by 11pm when my Father comes home from his cancer treatments and needs a cool place to sleep. The stress that this is putting on him is ridiculous he needs to focus on his health not some issues with a barley one year old AC unit that was replaced to prevent stress while he is going through the treatments.Desired Settlement: Either full refund for defective products/services or full replacement of the full HVAC system with all new parts as the ones obviously are not quality parts

Dear [redacted],

This is a follow up to an issue that arose this summer with a new Trane HVAC system. On August 8th, 2013, we replace the evaporator coil under a manufacturer’s warranty at no cost to the customer. We regret any inconvenience that we may have caused

[redacted]. We value [redacted]’s business and we hope to continue to perform HVAC and plumbing services for him in the future.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: Why did it take this long to even get a response about the issues I have had is a perfect example of why I can't trust the unit nor the company it was purchased from. Then they don't even respond to anything I said in the complaint. That said for now the unit is working (for now) but after spending so much money to have such poor customer service is just unforgivable I get better service after buying a $200 product then products totaling more than $8,000...

Regards,

Review: We called the company for the HVAC service(circuit board was bad), we were told if sign up for the twice yearly maintenance which is $199 then the service call is waived, then as new comer 10% discount, then another 10% off because we are senior citizens. After the service, the receipt indicated original cost for the circuit board was $1025, discounted as $820, plus $199 for signing up maintenance and changed a water panel as $60, total cost charged to us as $1079. We later obtained from the company of the work completion order listed the circuit board as $220. We also checked with our condo chief engineer who said it should be no more than two to three hundred dollars, We also called another company carrying the same part, it costs $320. Called the company manager, he couldn't explain the huge discrepancy but will not refund to us except $200 which he said he will send to us. We feel being cheated and over charge $600 ($400 if we receive the promised $200 which we didn't agree to). We told the manager Mr. Phil R[redacted] I will report their unethical practice to our condo manager, which I did with a letter and all the evidences(our receipt and their work order form , and to the Revdex.com. Their company address listed on the receipt as McCarthy Services : [redacted], VA [redacted] , Tel :###-###-####

We were told that many units owners used their services, we like to report this so no one would be cheated.Desired Settlement: Company 's apology for letting their employee being dishonestly charge the client, even after knowing the fact, still trying to cover it up not correcting the mistake, and of course, return the overcharged amount to us not just $200

should be total $600.

Response:

Mr. Mccarthy of the Mccarthy heating and Air Conditioning Co. contacted me on 11/14/14, admitting the service person charged me the wrong book price of the part and is willing to send me a check of $600 and promised me for a honest service. My husband and I took a oversea trip on 11/16/14, therefore I can not verify whether the check is being sent to us or not. If Revdex.com can wait till the end of November when I get back from the trip, I will write to Revdex.com again to verify it.

Review: I paid $89 for an [redacted] Deal for 2 hours of plumbing service to repair a leaky pressure reducing valve. The deal did not include parts. The technician in my home told me the valve cost $495. I took the box that held the new valve and ran the model number through Google. The exact same part (Zurn-Wilkins 3/4 in. Lead-Free Bronze Water Pressure Reducing Valve) costs $85 on [redacted] and [redacted] He refused to budge on price, saying that markup is to be expected. I refused service.Desired Settlement: I would like my $89 back, as I would never trust this company in my home again.
