 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: Meenan fails to acknowledge that it was their technicians who came out to my house on two separate occasion and worked on my heater for a total of 3.5 hours. So if anyone is to blame its them, first for not properly finding the faulty part the first two times and second for not properly disclosing that this could potentially happen when your unit is down for repair. As to the harming them comment, I will be alerting everyone how I was treated. In this day and age you cant just treat people anyway you see fit because you do not want to take responsibility for repairing my floor and carpet ( no furniture like you tried to add )
Regards,

Thank you for reaching out to us.  In regards to this account, our records indicate the following:
Mr. [redacted] had a burner tune-up scheduled for 8/12/2014.  When the...

Meenan service tech arrived no one was home. Mr. [redacted] was called and there was no response.
The service technician waited a few minutes then tagged the door to contact Meenan and went onto his next job.

Mr. [redacted] called Meenan back on 9/9/2014 where Meenan scheduled him another tune-up date of 12/15/2014.

Mr. [redacted] called in in October of 2014 and stated he was not able to get through to schedule service (which he had already in September).  Meenan asked Mr. [redacted] to specify what phone number he called, who he spoke with, and what issues he was having. Mr. [redacted] refused to answer these questions. Mr. [redacted] then requested his account be closed. Meenan advised Mr. [redacted] that if he closed his account and ended his one year protected price plan prior to its completion, then he would be charged an early termination fee. Mr. Mrogan still wanted the account closed.

Meenan would ask that Mr. [redacted] pay his outstanding balance as soon as he can and wishes him well moving forward.

If no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:I told the representative to wait until I can check other prices . They continued to badger me before I could obtain other prices .Then when I asked why the termination fee , they gloated "It's going to cost you over $4.00 per gallon now".This is unacceptable to speak to customers this way .[redacted]

Hello.
We have a [redacted] tracking receipt that states the delivery was made yesterday 3/12/15 at 10:02am.  If that is not correct, please let us know.
Thank you for your patience.

Thank you for reaching out to us.
[redacted] agreed to a 1 year protected price plan for heating oil with Meenan Oil that ran from 1/1/15 to 12/31/15. [redacted] agreed to remain on automatic delivery for a period of year with Meenan. [redacted] also agreed that should he fail to remain on...

automatic delivery for any reason, to include becoming delinquent in his payments, that his account would be closed and that he would be charged an early termination fee of $399 to account for the hedged product Meenan secured in good faith for him. Unfortunately [redacted] failed to keep his account current and presently has an outstanding balance of $1,444.39 ($1,003.49 of which is 120 days past due). For this reason, we would ask that [redacted] pay the totality of his outstanding balance as soon as possible and we wish him well in the future.

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:I spoke with Meenan's GM Chris B[redacted] @ 8:35 AM 10/30/14. Chris and I agreed that there were disclosure missteps on Meenan's behalf. Chris and I reached a mutual agreement that I would pay $400 instead of $983.80 due to Meenan's error. Chris will have my account adjusted to a final balance of $400.00 I will be billed for that balance and I will pay promptly when I receive the adjustment.

Review: When purchasing oil from Meenan, I was very clear that I did not want to sign a contract that required me to purchase oil from them for any given time period. I wanted to purchase oil on an as-needed basis. I spoke with multiple representatives and received very confusing information about their policies and process.

When I was assured that I could purchase on an as-needed basis, I agreed to buy oil from Meenan. However, when it came time to pay for the oil I was told I had to sign a document that would allow them to process my payments online. I promptly signed the agreement, so that I could pay online.

During the winter of 2012-2013, I started heating my house with a wood burning stove and needed less oil so I requested that Meenan put a hold on deliveries of oil since I wasn't using as much.

Then in Sept of 2013, at which time Meenan hadn't delivered oil since February 2013, I asked them to kindly close our account since we wouldn't be requiring their services this season.

They then sent a bill for $399 for "Early Termination". When I contacted them and asked what the fee was for, they replied that I had signed a contract and that we had to pay a termination fee.

After repeatedly asking for them to produce a contract, they finally sent over a screen grab of our contract terms and stated that I must have signed a contract if they have it in their system as such. But they did not ever produce the actual contract. They kept reminding me that all of their phone calls were recorded and that I must have agreed to a contract. When I asked them to produce the recordings, especially the ones where I said that I did not want to sign a contract, they did not produce any of the so called recorded phone calls.

When I reviewed the screen grab they sent regarding my account, I noticed that the contract expired in Dec. 2013. Since it seemed silly to argue over a couple of months, I sent the following email:

----- start email -----

Due to the lack of clear communication from the very beginning, I was not clear that I had signed a contract. I was told I was signing up for online payments. However, I do not wish to drag this out any further. Now that you have finally produced evidence that I have a contract, and that the contract expires 12/31/13, I will honor that contract through the termination date and would like to close my account at that time.

I am aware, per the contract, that I cannot cancel automatic deliveries without breaching the contract. However, please be advised that when determining the automatic delivery schedule for our location, that we will be using alternative heating methods and will not be turning on the oil heat system through the end of our contract.

Thank you,

----- end email -----

I sent this email on 10/23/2013 and received no response to the email, but subsequently have received monthly statements with late fees for the $399 termination fee.

Between email and phone calls I seem to be getting no where with this issue.

Sincerely,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like the termination fee removed from our account and the account closed.

Review: Our heat has been out. I have a heating repair system "gold" contract with Meenan. I have been waiting since 5pm yesterday for service and have no heat. I was initially told in the afternoon someone would come by 9. A repairman came at around 11 last night, said he had to get a part from his van, and then left and did not come back. After several calls to the company, I was told an hour and a half later that the service technician had difficulty finding parking, and was not going to fix my heat. I was told I would have to wait for the morning. Meenan is jeopardizing the health and safety of my daughter because it was inconvenient for their driver to find parking. Despite Meenan doing business in a city that has only street parking, the company now says that I have to provide a parking spot or they will not fix my heat. No one in this area has the ability to provide parking spots. It is all street parking. I am now in a position where it is unsafe, I am waiting for a repairman to come after an entire night of doing so, and not getting the services I pay for with my service agreement. The personnel at Meenan have been abusive, hostile, and aggressive. I am at a loss as to what to do.Desired Settlement: I want immediate repair, apologies from the dispatcher, supervisor and technician. I also want to be made whole for the damage and extreme discomfort and consequences of having no heat for an extended time in sub-freezing temperatures.

Response:

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Meenan.

We called **. [redacted] to discuss his concerns today (2/28/14).

**. [redacted] was not happy that he had service delays due to the lack of available parking in [redacted]. We apologized for the inconvenience, but advised **. [redacted] that this might happen again in the future as [redacted] is a very congested location. **. [redacted] was not satisfied with this response and was very abrasive with us on the phone.

Unfortunately, as Meenan could not seem to meet the performance standards that **. [redacted] was asking for due to local conditions, Meenan agreed to close **. [redacted]'s account and issue a $354.95 refund for his Service Contract.

We wish **. [redacted] good fortune and hope he has luck finding a company better suited for his specific needs.

Response:

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the response. If no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Review: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:

Meenan Oil has retaliated to my complaint by cancelling my service and oil delivery contract--this has left me without service or sheduled oil delivery. Moreover, Meenan's dishonest practices continues: despite claiming that it has refunded my service contract payment, Meenan has not done so. In fact, in a call to Meenan on this issue this week, I learned from the General Manager that Meenan had not requested that refund payment be issued to me. I have neither the service nor the payment. Why? Because Meenan believes that it need not fulfill its service contracts in the City of [redacted] if parking is not readily available. Meenan markets itself and seeks business inside the City of [redacted], yet purports to be unable to operate as required under its contract when needed.

I also received an item of correspondence from the General Manager earlier this month, suggesting that I had cancelld my contract with Meenan (not that Meenan had unilaterally done so), and asking me to contact the General Manager to discuss why I "left" as a customer. This letter is a fairly transparent effort by Meenan to avoid responsibility for having retaliated in this manner.

All in all, I am glad to be done with Meenan going forward. Leaving me in the lurch with respect to heat during a very cold winter was, however, reprehensible.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Meenan maintains its position as specified previously.

The customer's refund of $454.95 was processed on 3/26/14 and the customer should see it shortly if he has not already.

Review: I contacted Meenan Oil asking for repair of my air conditioning system that was not cooling. A Meenan technician responded to the service call on 6/28/13 and provided service on my air conditioning system. He told me that he repaired the problem and the system was generating cold air. Meenan billed me $340 for that service. On the 4th of July weekend, I used the air conditioning system and it was not generating cold air. I called Meenan back and told them about the problem. They dispatched a different technician on 7/8/13 and he stated the the air conditioning system should have been leak tested, which he did. He did some additional work on the system and it generated cold air for a very brief period of time. On 7/8/13 Meenan billed me $125. The air is not cold at this point. Meenan wants to come back and charge me another fee to complete the repair.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund $465 which represents charges for two technician visits that did not repair the air conditioning problem.

Response:

Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us.

We spoke to this customer this morning and agreed to:

1. Credit off the $125.00 charge from 7/8/13.

2. Send out a technician for free to take another look at his A/C problem.

Had an oil delivery this summer and the delivery guy tripped with the hose open and sprayed the entire front of my house with oil, with the bulk of it at my daughter's bedroom. My house stunk, inside and out, for months while they tried to clean it all up! When settling the final bill and credit for the spill, I let the manager in charge of my case know that I had actually sold my house and would be done with Meenan. Not owning a home with oil heat before, I thought this method would suffice, especially since he was a manager and had already been authorized to credit my bill for their mistake. Fast forward a couple months and the new homeowner contacts me saying that Meenan just delivered oil to the house. I call Meenan to discuss this, and they tell me my account is still open and that I am responsible for the payment of the oil. They send me over to Darlene in collections who then yells and hangs up on me! Then a few days later I receive a bill in the mail, so I call again to try to settle this. I get sent over to Darlene again and she hangs up on me again!! I call back and finally get a nice person (Loretta) however, Meenan's policy is still the same. Since they did not note that my account was closed at time of delivery and I do not have a confirmation number for closing the account, I am responsible for the bill. Interestingly enough, my account was noted as closed at that time, even though I still never received a confirmation number! I did all that I thought I needed to do to end my services with Meenan. I should not and will not be held responsible for their inability to follow their own procedures when closing out a customer's account!

Review: I have lived in my home for almost two years with my two children. The issues I have with this company started on day 1. I took ownership on September 24. That day I was testing everything in the home and the emergency shut off switch would not work. I called Meenan based on the letter I received that day at settlement certifying my heater. I let them know the issue and they told me the letter expires after 30 days (the date on the letter was August 24) and they would not come out unless I purchased a service agreement. I hung up and had someone else fix the problem. After a sales rep apologized for that horrible display of customer service, I called a week or two later to get a quote on oil and learn more about what they had to offer. I was told I was going to receive a quote. I never received the quote and a few days later they delivered oil to my home. When I called to question, they told me I have an agreement. I told them I did not. They again said they would send me something. To this day I have never received a piece of paper from Meenan other than a bill and they do not have my signature on anything. I have been making monthly payments to them all this time because since the first delivery I have had a balance. Though I still have a balance, I am caught up on my account and not behind on my monthly payments. Yesterday, I received a phone call from them telling me that my 12-month agreement expires next month and my balance of $1200 is due by October. I told her I was not aware of any such agreement and that as a single mom I was not going to be able to come up with that money in a month. She told me to call the credit department. She did not offer to transfer me or give me the number. I asked if I did that would I then be making double payments. She told me to call them. I asked why I had such a high balance even though I make my monthly payments, she told me that it was a hard winter and everyone got an extra delivery. Even an extra delivery would not be $1200. As I expressed my disbelief at how Meenan would punish their customers because it was a hard winter and continued to ask questions about why and what are the consequences if I can't pay, she hung up on me.Desired Settlement: I do not want Meenan Oil to deliver to my home ever again and I want to be put on a reasonable payment plan for this outstanding balance due to the "hard winter".

Response:

Thank you for reaching out to us.

This customer has been with Meenan Oil since 10/25/14 as an "Automatic Delivery Heating Oil Customer".

This customer is currently on a Monthly-Payment-Plan (a.k.a. "Budget-Plan") that currently runs from November 2013 to October 2014. Each month the customer pays $228 (budget payment) towards all heating oil deiliveries that are made during this period. At the end of the period (October 2014 in this case), the customer experiences a "settlement month", where she would pay for any outstanding balance that was not covered by her monthly payments. At the moment, the customer has an outstanding balance of $1,240.95 that is in excess of the monthly payments she has made, so she would be required to pay this amount by the end of October 2014 as her "settlement".

The country did expereince a very harsh winter this year (winter 2013-2014), resulting in many homes receiving 225-300 gallons more in oil deliveries than they might have otherwise in a more average year. At roughly $4/gallon, this explains the unexpected balance that the customer is experiencing.

Following the receipt of this customer concern, Meenan has attempted to call the customer seven times from 8/28/14 through 9/2/14. The customer did not answer any of these calls and a message was left each time, inviting the customer to call our general customer service line to discuss her worries (###-###-####).

We do ask that the customer pays her outstanding balance of $1,240.95 by the end of October 2014. We also invite the customer to call us at her convience to discuss her account and to answer any further questions she might have.

Review: Had meenan come to my house 11-05-2013 to install two propane tanks and to run gas lines from the tank to the new central air/heat unit.... they came out as was supposed... my unit since day 1 would come on and off intermittent and I was receiving high electric and gas bills so I had my father come take a look at it... When my father came to my house on 2-10-14 he asked me if meenan ever did a gas pressure test as they were supposed to since they ran the new gas lines.. I checked back on the invoice I received from them on that day and he clearly did not do a gas pressure test but claimed he did an operating test when the guy came he didn't even know how to turn my heat on so he falsified a document. .. so my dad checked the pressure and it was reading 10.5psi when the manufacturer was calling for it to be 12-14 psi and since my dad was checking the unit he also noticed they ran their gas lines were not secured they were floating in mid air... so the next day I called meenan to come and fix their gas lines and to adjust the pressure at their propane tanks that was it.. I told them how my dad is a hvac technician that once they fix things on their end he would take it from there.... meenan gave me an 8 hr window from which their guy would be at my house and their wouldn't be any charge for it so from 830 am to 530 PM was their window they didn't so up till 830PM later that day... When their guy got to my house I told him the same thing to fix the gas pipe and to adjust their pressure coming into my unit and my dad will fix the rest he said ok... well now it is 4 am and the guy told me that his water column kept freezing up and he couldn't get an accurate gas pressure reading and he said the guy who installed my Gas pipe never installed a drip leg so my unit could be flooding out causing it to turn on and off again their mistake he told me he would come back out at 12 the next day to finish up what he was called out for and to fix gas lines... He left me in the cold that night my house was 47* and I have a 8 year old daughter and he didn't show back up to my house till 430 PM later the next day... He did end up telling me what was wrong with my unit even though I didn't not ask him to troubleshoot my system nor did he tell me he was going to he then writes me up a bill for troubleshooting my unit and something with wiring it came to 334 dollars I told him that he's crazy and I'm not paying that because he was not sent out to troubleshoot my system that my dad would do all that and he said well its 1030 PM and the office is closed just sign the invoice and call the office tomorrow when they open so I did and his supervisor told me that he didn't get the paperwork on his desk yet that when he does he will go over it with me I said ok and told him look I don't mind paying the troubleshooting bill of 114$ because I felt bad he was at my house for so long but I refuse to pay the other charge of messing with the wires.... A week later goes by my unit then crashes again and I look inside my unit and their were wires hanging in there that their guy forgot to reconnect and it shorted my transformer and I was left without heat again until 10 PM that night when they yet again to my house to fix there mistake. .. He then tried telling me that the part just went bad and it wasn't because of his loose wires that the unit stopped working only problem with that is I'm a certified electrician and the part that went bad does not go bad due to defects it only goes bad due to it shorting out (loose wires) he then told me there was no charge for the part or his time there have a good night.... He realized I wasn't an it ... well so that was the end of that and on 2-24-2014 the supervisor finally got back to me and said he's only willing to take a 100$ off the bill he said I wanna meet u half way but a bill that was 334$ taking 100$ off isn't half way and he said his guy spent a lot of time at my house and then came back to put a new transformer in AGAIN this is not my problem it's their fault.. they should have never troubleshooter my system they went above what I told them to do and then billed me for it.. This is not how anyone should run there business and if it is going to be how they run their business good luck staying in business cause all their doing now is scaming people like me....Desired Settlement: I was going to pay the 113$ but because I have to go through all this trouble I want the full 334$ removed from my account and only if this happens I will continue to have my propane delivered from them and this right here will be as far as I take this.. If not I'll be contacting the news and telling everyone about them.. I guess they failed to recognize you please 1 customer, you gain 2 customers... you do wrong to 1 customer you now lose 20 customers

Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us.

Meenan has applied the $113 credit to [redacted]'s account as requested. This will leave a $113 positive balance on [redacted]'s account as of today (3/10/14).

If [redacted] has any further questions or concerns he can call our general number at ###-###-####.

Review: To our surprise, we are in receipt of the referenced invoice for services which were not requested by us. Your company apparently filled the fuel oil tank at our residence prior to the company that we are currently contracted with for heating oil. Now we are at a loss in explanation as to why we only used 10 gallons of oil when they tried to fill our tank. Interestingly enough, the invoice for fuel that we did not agree to purchase contains a price that is well above fair market price. Imagine our disgust when we reviewed our notes from our search for an oil company a few months ago and discovered that your very company quoted us a lower price at that time than the one charged now.

We are willing to pay your invoice, under protest, with the caveat that it is for our current oil pricing of $3.799 per gallon. Enclosed, you find a check in the amount of $432.33 for the 113.8 gallons of fuel oil deliveredDesired Settlement: I am at a loss to explain why a company of repute would just assume a customer would not need to enter into an agreement with an agreed upon price. We are requesting that you please refrain from this abhorrent practice in the future and do not consider us a customer.

PLEASE STOP BILLING US FOR UNREQUESTED SERVICES ($71.71)

Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us.

12/24/13---**. [redacted] received a heating oil delivery for 113.8 gallons from Meenan Oil. **. [redacted] was on normal automatic delivery with Meenan Oil at this time. **. [redacted]'s variable price per gallon at this time was $4.449/gallon. The total cost for the delivery was $494.92.

1/17/14---**. [redacted] called Meenan and for the first time, stated she would like to end her normal automatic delivery of home heating oil. Meenan took **. [redacted] off of normal automatic delivery at this time.

As **. [redacted] was on normal automatic delivery at the time of the 12/24/14 delivery, she is responsible for paying for that delivery at the price listed on her acccount on that date. Meenan is not accepting her short pay of the 12/24/14 delivery and asks that she pay the remaining amount of $71.71 still outstanding on her account.

Thank You Very Much

Response:

I am rejecting this response because we were not under contract with Meenan. If their practice is to extend a contract from one year to the next, they are legally obligated to inform us of price changes and continued service. If Meenan produces a contract, we would be happy to pay; otherwise we consider this an injustice. We have paid them a fair price for their mistake.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

My position remains the same.

Regards,

Review: I called into Meenan on 1/14/2013 to inquiry about services. I told the young lady that I did not want to sign the contract because I was not moving into the property until 2/1/13. I signed the contract once I knew that I was moving in on 1/28/13 at 8:14 am. I have paid my bill on time every month. I received a bill that stated that I owed 1,600 dollars and it was due at the end of August. I was trying to figure out what was going on. I called Monday evening to go over every delivery that I had. They started to tell me that I had a delivery on 1/25/13, 2/25/13, 3/30/13 and June something. I stated to the young lady that I did not move into this property until 2/1/13 and did not sign a contract until 1/28/13. She stated for me to fax my lease to her and other utilities that I had turned on around that time. I did that and called her Tuesday and she was not in. I called about 5 times Tuesday for them to pass me along to other people. When I called after 4 and spoke the account rep that setup the account all she could say was her boss was not in and he would call me first thing Wednesday morning. Well he never called I called and could not get him to get this issue resolved. This bar far has been the worst experienced that I have every been through. No one at Meenan can seem to help me.Desired Settlement: I want my bill adjusted and I want out of my contract because they delivered goods that I never agreed to.

Response:

Hello and thank you for touching base with us.

**. [redacted] signed up her heating oil account in on 1/14/13 stating that she would be moving into a vacant residence shortly at [redacted]. [redacted] signed up on a 4 month budget, which reqired her to pay a monthly payment ($168 in Feb, Mar, Apr, May) and settle the balance at the close of the four months (June).

Meenan made its first delivery to **. [redacted]'s residence on 1/25/13, three days before she moved in (208.2 gallons).

**. [redacted] moved into her home on 1/28/13.

Meenan made its second delivery to **. [redacted] on 2/25/13 (180.8 gallons).

Meenan made its third delivery to **. [redacted] on 3/30/13 (154.5 gallons).

Meenan made its fourth delivery to **. [redacted] on 6/13/13 (104.5 gallons).

**. [redacted] did make monthly payments, but was not able to pay off her balance in June as agreed to at the time of joining Meenan.

On 8/1/13 **. [redacted] spoke with Meenan's General Manager who:

1. Applied a $125.55 credit to **. [redacted]'s account for the early delivery in January (even though the oil was delivered and used by the customer).

2. Agreed to waive the the ETF (Early Termination Fee) for $399.00 for **. [redacted] terminating her Protected P[redacted] Plan early (as she could not afford to continue it).

3. Agreed to extend payment terms to allow the balance to be paid in three equal payments over threes months, with payments due 8/15, 9/15, and 10/15. Her current balance is $611.58

If **. [redacted] is unhappy with the concessions Meenan has afforded her, the $125.00 credit can be removed, the ETF can be put back in place, and the account can be placed into a state of collections. I hope after reconsidering the concessions Meenan has made to help this customer, this will not be necessary.

As always, we are available to discuss this with [redacted] and hope she decides to meet the arrangements she agreed to on 8/1/13.

Review: I have received frequent, automatic oil deliveries (4 deliveries from Jan 4, 2014 to Mar 28, 2014) and based on my diligent monitoring of my oil tank, the amount of said deliveries for at least two occasions was in excess of what could have been delivered.Desired Settlement: Adjust bill with oil amount which would have actually been delivered. This would be 68.8 gallons on March 4th and 27.5 gallons on March 28th. Return $84 from termination of the silver service agreement of furnace since this is no longer being honored as the delivery contract is now cancelled. Total amount due to Meenan would be $261.20 instead of $563.05.

On 1/3/14 of this year you established an account with Meenan where you agreed to go on normal automatic delivery for home heating oil at a variable pricing rate. In addition you elected to pay for a Silver Service Agreement. The Silver Service Agreement would be good for a period of one year, or when you ended normal automatic deliveries of heating oil, whichever event should come first.

Since the foundation of your account, you received the following charges:

1/4/14 161 gallons $563.34

1/16/14 Silver Service Agreement $209.00

2/1/14 92.3 gallons $346.03

3/4/14 102.9 gallons $370.34

3/28/14 54.3 gallons $192.71

We have double checked our delivery tickets for you and can confirm that the deliveries above were made.

As of today, you have a remaining outstanding balance of $563.05 for the charges specified above. We ask that you pay this amount immediately.

We wish you good fortune and thank you for being a customer.

I am rejecting this response because:

Review: I am working very hard to create an income for myself as my previous company had a massive layoff and I was one of the individuals let go. I was very hopeful that a "fixer upper" property that I purchased with my small savings would help me create an income for myself, by making rental units out of it. The older home I purchased had oil heat, and I contacted Meenan to set up oil to put in the tank. The sales professional pushed that a contract with Mennan would save me the most money, I asked her about the downsides to a contract vs. not having one for the oil, and she responded it was less expensive with a contract and suggested that only antiquated individuals paid per oil shipment, citing her mother or grandmother. With this contract, my oil price was set. I am on extremely tight budget since the layoff, I desperately need to save money on this project, so I went with the contract. I signed Sept 9th in a cyber space contract form, and asked Meenan to mail me the completed contract on Sept 9th, so that I could actually view the physical document. Meenan ignored me, never responding to my inquiry for the contract and on Oct 4th I learned from my team helping me fix up the house, the oil heater was not functional, so I called Meenan less than 30 days later, never even having received a single shipment of oil. I called immediately as to help Meenan know so they could make adjustments, it was impossible for me to fill this tank, as the tank was damaged. I always try to be courteous businesses, as my family has always owned small businesses. I do not feel Meenan Oil has been courteous to me however , they insisted on charging me $400 as an early termination fee citing the contract, which I signed online in cyberspace and never received a copy of . I am heart broken, I never even received a drop of oil and I feel terribly taken advantage of. When I asked for their help with this matter, their sales manager even suggested he was going to put debt collectors out to get me to pay, when I have been nothing but polite, and said I even understand why they have such fees, to help protect their business and maintain customers. This $400 fee is absolutely unethical and as a consumer, I have lost so much trust. $400 is an incredibly large amount of money for me to give a company for not doing any services, other than pushing a contract on me that ironicallly was there to save me money. I am so very very upset.Desired Settlement: I only need the ETF refunded as I feel the contract and terms process was unclear, I think I have been taken advantage of, especially since I cancelled so promptly and within less than 30 days.

Review: I was a Meenan customer at [redacted], PA [redacted] until March 25, 2014. On that day, another family took possession of my home, which went to settlement on March 25, 2014 at 4:30 PM. At 1 PM that same day a delivery was made on my account, despite the fact that I had already spoken to several service reps who knew that was my last day at the house, and there was still 150 gallons of oil in the tank. Moreover, they had to have known that the 25th was to be my last day in the home, because the new owners also signed for Meenan service. The last service rep that I spoke to told me there would not be a delivery until April, so this was very unexpected. There was no phone call apprising me of the delivery. I only found out about it when I called for my balance today.

It makes no sense for me to accept a delivery when I was to vacate the house 3 1/2 hours later. It also makes no sense to bill me for oil for which I will receive no benefit.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the cost of this oil removed from my bill, and I will pay the remaining balance due.

I am rejecting this response because: the business has not followed through to resolve the issue. To be clear, I find the suggested resolution acceptable. However, since March 25th, 2014 I have received 3 invoices for this delivery. One with the full delivery amount; the second with the delivery amount plus a late fee, and the third (received just today 4/5/2014) with the delivery credited, then re-billed at a different rate. The business offered to credit the entire delivery, which is what I had requested and which is the only resolution I will accept. However, they do not appear to be following through in good faith.

Review: Although we told the company not to deliver any more oil this winter, they did so and are asking me to pay $600 for the unauthorized delivery. My instructions to the company were provided on a recorded line and multiple company representatives ([redacted]) did confirm the same. Additionally the manager [redacted] also confirmed my instructions but continues to want me to pay for the unathorized delivery/purchase. When I refused they attempted to bargain with me by offering a $50 discount or setting up a payment plan but since it was their error, I don't see why I would be obligated to buy from them.Desired Settlement: No bill for unathorized delivery/purchase

Response:

Hello. Thank you for reaching out to us.

Meenan Oil did make a heating oil delivery to this customer on 3/23/13 for 143.2 gallons. The cost of this delivery was $601.30 ($4.199/gallon).

The custom (who is still active as a customer) is on an automatic delivery program with Meenan (all Meenan customers are on an automatic delivery program).

The customer did tell a Meenan representative that she did not want a delivery in the near future. A delivery was made by accident. Recognizing this, Meenan called the customer to apologize and to attempt a resolution. Meenan offered the customer a reduction in cost to $3.899/gallon in an effort to resolve the concern, but the customer was not interested. Meenan suggested that perhaps another solution could be created. The customer told Meenan to stay off her property and ended the call. Meenan has reached out to the customer on 3/29/13, 3/30/13, and 4/1/13 in an effort to negotiate some resolution, but the customer has not returned any phone calls. Meenan would still like to work something out with the customer. We hope the customer understands that they cannot benifit from Unjust Enrichment. We would ask that the customer call us to work something out, a solution that would be fair to both parties. She is welcome to call [redacted] during business hours to speak with [redacted] or [redacted].

We appreciate the customer's patience and hope we can fix their problem as soon as they contact us.

Review: To whom it may concern,

I am writing this complaint in reference to my dealing with Meenan Oil Company located in [redacted] Pennsylvania. I became a new home owner in January of 2013 and this being my first home and first time I have had oil heat I put my trust in Meenan and believed their sales representative. I contacted Meenan in January of 2013 to get the oil bill put in my name right before settlement which occurred on January 15th. When I called Meenan they asked what plan I would like to select and I said I did not know how oil heat delivery/billing worked and that I hoped they could help me through the process. I was put on a "smart pay plan" that would have me pay a bill each month because I told them I could not afford to pay large amounts all at once The sales representative told me I would be put under a similar oil delivery amount as the previous owners after we discussed that I live alone and I work late long hours during the winter as compared to the previous owners who were two people and retired so they were home a lot more, therefore used more oil. This was termed as being conservative and I was informed that by the end of the year I would have oil left over to roll into the next year and decrease my bill.

I paid my bill all year long and when it came time to renew my plan I was informed that I would owe a balance of around $600 and I could not believe this was the case because I thought I was paying my bill all year and didn't know how I could have used that much more oil than the previous owners. I spoke with a Meenan representative that said I should have been paying $180 a month instead of $134. I have an underground tank so there is no way to find out how much is in there and they do not know what I actually used during the year but only what they delivered. They kept telling me I used much more than the previous owner because I had more delivered. Then they said they based it on the previous owner who did not live in the house for the whole year and moved out in July. They had this in their notes and told me it was their mistake. I asked for some kind of yearly transaction report because their online web site does not provide any information and they never gave me anything other than an automatic debit receipt each month for $134.

The transaction report showed that 100 gallons were delivered on January 15th or 16th when I made settlement but I told the representative prior to this that I would not need a delivery because I was not moving into the house yet. When I moved in on February 28th there was another delivery of 100 gallons. So, they made a mistake by delivering twice before I actually moved in and how could the first 100 gallons have been used if no one was living there? Then I asked if they would not deliver any more oil to me prior to my contract ending December 31st because I didn't need one and I had enough oil because of their mistake. They told me I could pay $299 (or $399) not exactly sure which amount to cancel my contract and then no oil would be delivered or I could accept the oil delivery and it would be added to the amount I would owe. They delivered another 134 gallons and my final year end bill was $1,007 and that was owed after I already paid $134 a month all year. I live pay check to pay check and had to max out my credit card to pay this bill. I now have to pay interest on this amount and do not know how long it will take to pay it off.

I feel that Meenan truly misrepresented their selves and took advantage of me. I also seen from my bill that I paid $80 and $360 for service plans during the year that I never authorized to sign up for. Their was a service plan when I bought the house in January that lasted until May. After it expired they automatically billed me for it again without asking me and this was an additional $360. When I told them I wanted to cancel my contract (which I never received paper work saying terms of this "Contract") when it ended in December they said I would forfeit 6 months of this service contract they charged me for. I asked if I could stay with them and order oil on my own when I felt I needed it in order to not forfeit this money I was told I would have to stay on with them and let them deliver oil automatically without my approval. I spoke with a friend about everything that had happened and they suggested I contact the Revdex.com.

Sorry for the length of this complaint. But there was lot of wrong done to me by Meenan. A new home owner that trusted this company only to be taken advantage of. I paid my bill all year and I even paid the ridiculous year end amount they said I owed but it's not right what they did.

Thanks for taking your time to read this and have a nice day,

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to receive the $360 and $80 service plan contract payments that I was charged in 2013 and never knowingly authorized.

I would really hope that something is done so Meenan cannot do this to other people. I am 31 years old and have a college degree and it took a lot of work on my part to figure out what they actually charged me for. I can't imagine how they are taking advantage of elderly people or others that trust the company is charging the right costs in the best interest of the customer.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I contacted Meenan on 1/3/14 where an agreement was made to refund me $324 of the service contract I was charged. I was informed I would receive a check in the mail. So, that is where the complaint currently stands.

**. [redacted] should receive his refund check by 1/20/14. If he does not, I would ask that he calls the main office to let them know at ###-###-####.
