I investigated this complaint regarding an account placed with our office for third party collections by our client SUNY Buffalo State CollegeMercantile Adjustment Bureau does not purchase debt and all interest is accrued by our clientsOur office spoke to Ms [redacted] on November 10, and Ms [redacted] stated that she would be paying the account in full and would look into obtaining a loan to pay the balance within the next two weeks because she was applying to another schoolMsDe Marie then called Mercantile on August 18, and stated that she that she wanted information on the balance and that she wanted to pay the balance in full and would be calling back within the weekMs [redacted] called Mercantile on August 23, and requested a settlement on the balanceMercantile advised Ms [redacted] that our client only authorizes Mercantile to offer a settlement of a 50% reduction of the interest, which our client accrues, which would be a reduction of $to a settlement of $1, Mercantile offered to submit Ms [redacted] ***'s settlement request of$1,to our client for approvalOn August 24, 2017, Ms [redacted] called Mercantile and was advised that her settlement request of$1,was not accepted by our clientMs [redacted] stated that she would need to call backOn August 25, 2017, Ms [redacted] called Mercantile and was advised that the settlement of$1,was available until August 31,and Ms [redacted] stated that she would call backOn September 6, 2017, Ms [redacted] called Mercantile and was advised again that [redacted] wanted to pay the settlement and was advised that Mercantile had to verify with our client whether the settlement was still valid since it was not received by August 31, On September 7, 2017, Ms [redacted] called Mercantile and stated that she spoke to our client and they advised her that Mercantile owns the account and accrues interestMs [redacted] was advised that that is not correctThe current client-approved settlement amount as of today is $1,752.18.We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have causedSincerely, Daniel [redacted] Chief Compliance Officer Mercantile Adjustment

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below While they have removed my name from their list, my complaint is that collections agencies are using robo calls to pursue debtors and uninvolved people such as myself are targeted If I had not made the call to the company how may more calls would I have received? There are similar complaints regarding the disturbance of robo calls from many people who are not responsible and yet are the target of these calls This is a nuisance and I don't believe automated calling should be allowed in these circumstances Regards, [redacted] ***

For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowMy last payment I made was $through my bankI distrust the validity of these bills now as I do not feel the original vendor RGH hospital is billing my insurance properlyThere is no copays anywhere elseMercantile Adjustment handles billing for RGHI want written statement invoice from this business saying my account under my name for however many sub accounts or account numbers are paid in fullThis perhaps is a far wider problem if the debtor is not billing insurance properly there could be hundreds of people being charged incorrectlyI'm disabled on social security with a fixed incomeI would hate if others like myself are being targeted and defrauded. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowI notified the representative that there was a limit on my debit card that would prevent me from paying the full amount, I did not call this company with the intentions of faking a payment, so for the compliance officer to say that my payment just declined when I told the representative these specifics about my card does not sit right with meAlso, there did not need to be a follow up call, I told the representative that I would call her back when I could figure things out, there was no mention that because I called them that that gave them the right to call me at work, a retail store where other people can pick up the phoneBuffalo State College quoted me a number WITHOUT this company's interest fees...This company can get that money, WITHOUT the fees that Buffalo State College mentioned.
