I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  Still this is a very unethical way to practice business.  They are counting on new home buyers to think they are taking care of the Homestead exemption, but are instead doing something that is unnecessary.  This is an unethical tactic, but apparently legal.

Thank you for the inquiry from Mr. [redacted].  Included with our response is a copy of the
solicitation that Mr. [redacted] received from our company.  Our solicitation states several times in bold
large font that we are not a government agency, that our mailing is an
advertisement for service and...

that we do not prepare a homeowner’s tax
exemption.  This information is located
all over our solicitation so that a potential customer will not get
confused.  We see that Mr. [redacted] read our
mail solicitation a saw he could also sign up for our service on our website.  Once on our website Mr. [redacted] would also see just
like our mailing that we are not a government agency, that our website is an
advertisement for service and that we do not prepare a homeowner’s tax
exemption.  During this process if Mr.
[redacted] was still confused after reading this information on our website or solicitation
he could have called the toll free number we offer and listened to our recorded
message or spoken to a customer service rep which would explain the details of
our service, explained we are not a government agency nor do we prepare a
homeowner’s tax exemption.  Our company
unlike our competitors has this information readily available with every
communication that we offer a potential customer.  We are sorry that Mr. [redacted] missed this and
have refunded his credit card the $35 as requested.

Ms. [redacted] spoke to our customer service representative yesterday in regards to our service.  At that time she could have requested a refund of service and [redacted] our customer service representative would have processed it immediately.  Our service is most beneficial to new homeowners...

that is why we send our mailing out at that time.  The sooner a homeowner can file their Designation of Homestead the sooner they become eligible for the equity protection offered by the state.  We are sorry if Ms. [redacted] was confused by our service, but we offer information to contact us or listen to our per-recorded message (available 24 hours a day) on every item we send out.  We have gone ahead and refund the credit card Ms. [redacted] used to sign up for the initial service of $35 and will mail her a refund check on 5/19/2016 for the $39.

Our customer service representative spoke with Mr. [redacted] today and determined that he did not use our companies service.  We do not help homeowner's with their tax exemption.  Our company helps homeowner's file for the Designation of Homestead which is an equity protection for the...

homeowner.  This is filed at the county clerk's office not the tax assessors office.  There are several companies that do help homeowners file their tax exemption, but we are not one.  Mr. [redacted] must have used their service.Sorry,Customer Care
