Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage Reviews (65)

The set up process for my move seemed to go smoothly and management seemed to know what was expected. The movers showed up a little later than I expected, but not too bad. This was a big move...two trucks, two locations, 5 movers, all converging at one final destination. One location had an experienced mover and a guy in training (2nd day on the job) who had no clue what he was doing. He was nice, but it made it hard for the move to go as smoothly as it needed to. There was supposed to be another mover there and he just didn't bother to show up. The other location had 3 movers and they worked hard, but did not pack things well onto the truck (many items from this truck were damaged). We had many items damaged or broken. They chipped paint off the walls in two areas of the home after running furninture into them. They put boxes, that were clearly labelled, in the wrong location. They put fragile boxes upside down causing items inside to break. They got a flat tire on one of the trucks while trying to back around a corner (they ran over the ramp of the other truck)...this delayed their ability to go back to the storage unit and gather the remainder of our belongings. They assembled beds incorrectly such that they had to be taken apart and put back together. They left things behind in one location that took several trips to move ourselves. They left a hand truck at our house and had to come back to pick it up a couple of days later. It felt like a three ring circus that took 12 hours!!
While all of that was really disappointing and frustrating, the worst of it is the team of folks that runs the opertation behind the scenes. I called to provide feedback the very next business day. I was told I would get a call back later that day or the next. I called back 2 days later and left a message and received no response. I finally taked to someone 3 days later who did not offer any apology or explanation, but simply said they were not willing to do anything for me. It was clear he had no intention of caling me back, I just happened to get him on the phone. He gave me a story about passing my feedback on to his boss and they decided there wasn't anything they could do for me. AKA: so sorry we did a lousy job, but we don't care.
They charged too much and sent movers who were not skilled enough (or careful enough) to do the job. They want your money, but will not promise to deliver good, quality service. They will show up late, damage your things and charge you a lot of money to do it. It would be worth paying more money and going with a different company. The level of unprofessionalism was appalling. Moving is really stressful and you would think a professional moving company would understand that and go out of their way to deliver a good experience for their customers.

Review: On 2/1/2013 Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage was contracted to Move all of our household goods to our new residence. After showing up late, the movers stated that they were not prepared to pack up our items and were only there to load 10 boxes into the truck and transport it to the new residence. After the senior member of the moving team contacted their supervisor, we were able to reach a compromise to pack up the majority of household goods and move them. After leaving numerous items unloaded and upon arrival at our new residence, one of the movers neglectfully hit the door frame of our master bedroom with a piece of furniture, breaking the door frame rendering our master bedroom door unusable. In addition, throughout the remainder of their work, unprofessional conduct such as wearing headphones and singing loudly by one of the crew was commonplace. Numerous red marks and scratches in the stairway walls were also caused by the movers rubbing against and bumping into the walls, not only by my possessions, but also by the red "hoodie" one of them was wearing. Without delay, a claim form was submitted for the broken door frame. The company sent someone to fix the door and frame, but they had brought the wrong size. The repair people went to purchase the correct size and upon returning to the house and installing the door frame, discovered that they had bought the wrong size door frame again. As of June 11, 2013 it has now been four months and 11 days after the move and our master bedroom door is still not repaired. The company has not called back or made any effort to return to fix the door frame.Desired Settlement: I only want them to repair or replace the door frame that they broke to its original condition.

After speaking with [redacted] from the company she stated the company is working on a resolution. The company has hired a carpenter who will have to make a door frame for the customer.

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted]. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The company states that they are in the process of resolving this, however, this has been the case since February and my door frame is in worse condition now than it was before they attempted to repair it. Since the complaint was made, an appointment was made by the company to finally repair the door. Arrangements were made to be home for the appointment and the repairman did not show. The repairman's last conversation indicated that he intended to show up for the appointment, he simply had no regard for the customer's time or effort and was a no-show. I am extremely unsatisfied with this company's original service, but unfortunately have discovered their lack of customer service, customer respect and generally improper business practices is limitless. As I have stated before, I only request this company repair my door and door frame to its original condition.

Regards,

After speaking with [redacted] from the company on 7/26/13 she stated there is a conflict with scheduling the carpenter to come back out and remeasure the door. The customer will need to clear out a day during the week for the carpenter can come out.

They were a very professional crew. They wrapped all my furniture in blankets and everything arrived in perfect condition. Thank you for making my move a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend Mid-Atlantic Movers.

I have a great advice for everyone who is looking to hire a very reliable and affordable moving company. Just go for Mid-Atlantic Movers. They are cheap and very committed. Recently I moved to Virginia from Washington with Mid-Atlantic Movers and I did not have to experience anything unexpected. Nothing was damaged or broken or missing, they took less than the quoted time and charged $50 less than the quoted amount.

I found Mid-Atlantic Movers to be careful and gentle when moving my furniture into my apartment. Overall, they did a wonderful job though it was a little pricey. I would still recommend them. No broken furniture during the move and they were on time.

It was a pleasure to have Mid-Atlantic Movers take care of our move. The team was on time, always courteous, friendly and professional. They took special care with our furniture ... the foreman for our move was very accommodating and patient with all my questions. Highly recommend.

I cant imagine how this move could have been more miserable. I actually had to contact my attorney just to get them to deliver my belongings. The movers showed up 4 hours late when they came to pack at my old house, then complained constantly about how much work there was to do. They didnt handle my belongings with care. Delivery at my new house was a complete disaster. Once the truck finally did leave the storage facility it took excessively long to get to my house. Some of my items did not show up, many other items were damaged. I did get some things that dont belong to me, which means at least someone is missing their stuff as well... MY SHIPMENT WAS 11 DAYS LATE!!!! I was constantly lied to everytime I called looking for an update. The delivery time was scheduled for 8am on Sunday, at 11 I called asking where the truck was. They told me it would arrive at 5pm, which came and went, no truck and no one available to give an explaination. The following day it showed up 3 hours later than promised. There were 2 movers unloading (who by the way were the only honest and decent people I dealt with) as opposed to the 4 that loaded the truck which meant we were unloading until 9pm. The so called [redacted] refused to call back, apparently something I said offended her. Pretty sad for someone who calls themself a manager. These people lie cheat and steal to get your business and once they have your money they dont have the common decency to even return your phone call. THESE PEOPLE CAN NOT BE TRUSTED!!!!!

The movers were very friendly and helpful with moving my mom's estate contents, and one of them did a great job of packing a storage unit -- the stuff filled it up to the ceiling, walls and door!

Had very reasonable rates. I do recommend them to friends and will most likely use them again... if I ever move... which I do not plan on doing, so they may be out of luck. ;)

I guess the title of my reviews says it all. Really this company is too good for any kind of moves. Their movers are experienced, skilled and willing to perform and the sales guys are simply amazing. They know their job and they know how to deal with the customers. I used Mid-Atlantic Movers just a week ago and got the best move ever. Price and service wise Mid-Atlantic are simply unbeatable.

Mid-Atlantic Movers was our moving company and did a great job, highly recommended and excellent service. They were on time, professional and made our moving experience enjoyable and the staff was polite and courteous.

Review: My relocation was cancelled and I have not received a refund on my deposit. It has been over 10 days since I informed the company of the cancellation of my job transfer.Desired Settlement: Immediate refund of my deposit.

Regards,

When I contacted the company regarding my refund, a woman named [redacted] was extremely rude and unprofessional. She told me that you will get your money when we give it to you. I asked to speak to the next higher person in charge and she stated I am the next person in charge. I then said who is the owner and she stated his name is [redacted]. I asked to speak to [redacted] and she didn't say hold on a minuet or I will get him, nothing just placed the phone on hold. I was on hold for over 25 minuets and I called using my home phone as my initial call which was on hold was from my cellphone. When the person answered the phone I allowed them to listen to the hold music as I was still on hold. I did receive this refund in full, but an earlier refund in the same amount for an earlier move which was delayed and ultimately cancelled by my federal government employer was charged $80.00 dollars for no service provided. I do not understand why the first deposit of $1000 yielded a refund of $920 and the second refund yielded the full $1000 deposit.

Review: Mid Atlantic Moving Company picked up my furniture from my residence on June 27, 2014 and delivered to their "onsite storage facility". My furniture has been housed in a storage unit for 2 1/2 months for a monthly fee. I have paid this fee every month. Complaint is: Mid Atlantic did not deliver my furniture to my new residence on the requested date of Tuesday Sept. 9, 2014. Their reason: They can not access the storage unit which I found out today, Sept 11, 2014 is located at an "outside" storage facility; Extra Space Storage. The account/contract with Extra Space Storage was originally set up in an employee's name not the company's name. What company lets an employee set up a company account in their personal name? This employee, [redacted] who held the position of [redacted], is no longer with the company. Apparently she has not signed the account/contract with Mid Atlantic and without her performing this action, I can not get my furniture. This current situation between the former operations manager and the moving company is a inter company problem; not my problem. But because of this inter-company problem, I can not retrieve my furniture. I have a brand new home and can not live in it without furniture and my appliances. Please help me! My contract is with Mid Atlantic Moving and Storage NOT Extra Space Storage. I NEED my furniture. Apparently, this former operations manager will be at their offices Friday, September 12, 2014 for an exit interview and to "hopefully" sign over this account to Mid Atlantic Moving Co. If this former manager DOES NOT sign over the account to them, then I am stuck with no furniture. Extra Space Storage will NOT let anyone except this former manager have access to the storage units. I am giving the moving company until end of business day tomorrow to resolve this issue, if there is no resolution by tomorrow, I am seeking legal action against them. Yes, I have already spoken with my attorney.Desired Settlement: If at all possible, I would like a representative from the Revdex.com to contact their [redacted] and help me get this issue resolved. Please put pressure on the management/executive team to put pressure on this former operations manager, [redacted] to sign over the account to them so I can get my furniture!

Response:

Dear Revdex.com

Please be advised that the former [redacted] is no longer with the company, and the customers original date of delivery for their household goods was scheduled for 9/9/2014 from storage. Upon the movers arrival to the units, it was brought to corporate's attension that the leases for the units wre accidently placed by the storage company in her personal name, vs. the company's name and the storage company would not allow us to access for liability purposes. Immediately, the customer was called and was told of the issue. It was referenced to the customer that we would have resolution by the end of the week, as the former [redacted] was to correct the paper with the storage vender. The paperwork was completed on Friday afternoon, and corporate notified the customer that corporate would sign over the unit to [redacted] immediately to get her belongings to her or our next available delivery date would be Thursday the 18th. [redacted] elected to claim the unit and accepted the lease on that Saturday. She has all her belongings. The company apologized for any inconvience and confussion.

THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY I'VE EVER DEALT WITH!!! Where do I begin?
1.) After my initial on-line inquiry for an estimate, I was BOMBARDED with e-mails and phone calls soliciting my business. I was told their time slots were limited, and I would need to book my date and sign a contract ASAP.
2.) I contracted my across-town move for Friday, June 5th and arranged weeks in advance with my employer to have the day off. I was contacted by Mid-Atlantic LESS than 24 hours before my move to inform me they had a BIG JOB before mine and would have to reschedule for the following day. I explained that I had to work, but could make arrangements for a morning move that MUST be completed by noon.
3.) I was assured the movers would arrive between 8:00 and 9:00 am...they arrived at 9:35. In order to compensate for their tardiness and expedite the process, I had to assist with most of the moving (for which I'm already paying a ridiculous amount of money!)
4.) While unloading my belongings on the other end, the movers damaged the following:
-Dropped my 52" flat screen and broke the base
-Tore the arm on my sleeper sofa (they had no clue that if you flip the sofa forward rather than backward, the bed would spill out.) As a result, there is also a large gouge in the drywall of my foyer that will need repaired and painted.
-There are now 3 large chunks of wood chipped off my $1500 mahogany armoire.
5.) I filed a claim, and have followed up twice to no avail. It seems that they have time to hound you to get your business, but once they've got your $$$ you're SOL!!!
I've moved many times in the past, and have never had such an unpleasant and stressful experience! The last move I went through [redacted] (procured a truck and used their local movers registry to select my movers.) I paid almost half the amount and the crew was experienced, professional and ON TIME!

Review: We did not receive the service purchased and they have over charged my credit card and now the company will not return my call. The movers broke/damaged multiple items and when asked about it they lied. They left a freezer in the house we sold, other than the appliances and furniture (which they damaged) everything else was unloaded into the garage and not brought into the house. The mover would not start loading without us signing the paperwork but only now do we realize the last page was to be signed after the move, which we were forced to sign beforehand. We never walked through anything and NEVER checked those boxes stating everything is good. They literally threw our washing machine half way on the bin (breaking it in the process) then got into the truck and left without a word. The mover put our bed frames together without tightening them, so before we or our children could go to bed, we had to screw the frames in ourselves.

I have never been provided such horrible service with management who could care less. Like I stated, I've been attempting to contact ANYONE from that company for three days and no one will call me back.

We were closing on the house we sold and the one we purchased on the same day and had a tight schedule and this moving company took advantage of our situation, and then did not provide the service they extorted from us. On top of that, they gave me an invoice for $2200 but have charged my credit card for over $3700. I have attempted to call both their Norfolk office and Richmond office and no one will contact me. It has been three days since the incident and I've called at least twice a day each day without anyone calling me.Desired Settlement: I want management to contact me and resolve the billing issue as well as provide restitution. I want all damaged items repaired.

At this time, I have not been contacted by Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Regards,

Review: Company fraudulently charged my credit card $940.00 without my authorization. I have a receipt that I signed stating that I only owe $235.00. I have contacted my credit card company to file a dispute and I have sent [redacted] an email where I stated I DO NOT AUTHORIZE the transaction and a copy of my receipt stating what I owe. I am still waiting on an outcome from [redacted] but Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage still has not credited back my money.

On top of that there were too many issues with my service to list. The movers/management were rude, late, and took little care of our belongings. We had several items damaged and was cornered not only at the pickup but at the delivery for a tip. Also, overheard a mover state "he was glad he did not show up to load the truck".Desired Settlement: I would like $705.00 refunded from Mid-Atlantic Moving and Storage not [redacted] so I can close my credit card dispute.

Response:

Revdex.com spoke with [redacted] from the company and he stated that they had to move the consumer twice. They moved the consumer's belongings to a storage unit and months later moved again to the consumer's home. The time starts with the movers get to the place and start working and the time ends after the move is done. [redacted] stated that the movers did make an error and then was corrected and the consumer initialed next to the information and was aware of the error and the correction.

I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The only thing I agree with is they moved me twice. Mid Atlantic Moving and Storage fraudulently attempted to charge me triple for the second move than the first. I guess because they had my credit card number on file they felt like they had the right to charge me whatever they wanted. Most importantly without my authorization.

Response:

[redacted] household goods was in our storage the movers forgot to start there time when they was at the storage which I tried to explain to him that's where the additional time came from but he wasn't understanding and was refusing to pay the additional fees the time starts when the movers get to the job not mid way of the job.

Their response is incorrect and means nothing. I hope the Revdex.com takes note of this company changing a signed a contract/receipt after the fact. Seems like a blatant disregard to the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.

Regards,

Richmond, VA

11/1/2013

I had a move scheduled with this company on Saturday 10/26, in Richmond, between 8-9 AM. At 8:20 I received a call saying that one of their trucks had broken down and they were working on getting a replacement and would call me as soon as they knew something. When I didn't hear back from them after a few hours, I called back. The number I had went to the sales office in Hampton roads where the woman who answered the phone there obviously had no idea what was happening with my move and was therefore not helpful. She assured me that the Richmond office would be calling me though. An hour and a half later, I called back since I hadn't heard anything and spoke to the same woman again. She still did not know anything but said that she would have the Richmond office call me.

After several more hours of this pattern, I finally got in touch with someone in Richmond. I was told that the movers were finishing the first move of the day and they'd come straight to me as soon as they were done with that. I was given no time frame and no promise of a call back. An hour later, I called back and got the same story and the time frame of an hour. 2 hours later I called back and got the same story with the movers' arrival being any minute now.

The movers finally arrived at 8:30 that evening. At which time I was tired, hungry, and pretty annoyed. I was game to go ahead and get my move done that night since they were already there. I started going over what needed to be done (including a 2nd stop to pick up some furniture from my father's house) and the movers had no clue what I was talking about. Instead of having things written down and directions printed out to each place we needed to go I was told that they'd just follow me to where ever else we needed to stop.

I ended up rescheduling for the following morning because I didn't feel that I needed to coddle the professional moving company that I was paying! I went over what would happen the next day with the movers and went to bed hoping that it actually would!

The next day went smoothly as far as the move itself. I am still however, waiting on a call back from the management of mid Atlantic. I called on Saturday night and left a message, called back on Tuesday afternoon when I hadn't heard anything, and just called today on my lunch break (just to make sure I caught someone before they left for the day).

I still haven't heard back and I certainly don't plan on ever using this company again! Their customer service is off the charts terrible!

Mid-Atlantic Movers is an excellent company and I have used them every time for the past ten years. They have always been exceptionally careful with my belongings as I have antiques. I highly recommend this company.

Let me say that the MOVERS WERE AMAZING and the initial communication with the company was also phenomenal. This was my first big move and the first time I decided to hire movers. I was given various quotes depending on the final weight, was offered various insurance quotes/options, etc. and the rate I was quoted was by far the lowest I had received - I guess you get what you pay for. In my numerous conversations with the company I had given a detailed list of my items. The company also discussed the possibility of a same-day move which was ideal. I made a point or reiterating several times that in order for that to happen, the movers had to be at my place promptly at 8am as I only had the loading dock at my new residence until 8PM that evening. After being reassured several times that that wouldn't be a problem, I went ahead and changed my move-in date for a day earlier (which cost me extra money) and reserved the loading dock for that evening. I started getting a little nervous when the evening before the scheduled move I received a confirmation call for the moving truck to be at my residence between 8-9AM but was also asked what items I was moving. When I stated that I had submitted a detailed list I was told nothing was on file but that everything would be fine. At 9:30AM on moving day there was no truck in sight and had to call to see what was going on. At 10:30 I received a call from the driver saying they were leaving the truck yard and still had to weight the truck. When I explained to him that this was supposed to be a same-day move that was now not going to happen he told me he had no knowledge of that. Needless to say from that moment on, nothing went according to plan. I was able to reserve the loading dock at my new residence for the next morning but only for 2 hours which was not nearly enough time to get it unloaded with 2 men. I called the company and requested a 3rd mover to help unload and voiced my displeasure and concerns which were not only completely brushed-off but the relocation specialist started arguing with me about the fact that I could only get the loading dock for 2 hours. In the end, we never received a 3rd mover and I never heard from the company again to apologize, follow-up, nothing. Moving is stressful enough and this company made it a horrific experience. I would absolutely NEVER RECOMMEND this company. Pay the extra money and hire a reputable company.

Review: I used this company to move out of my apartment and store my goods as I looked for another apartment. The original move went very poorly as they showed up TEN hours late (6pm instead of 8am) and then proceeded to charge me for three hours of work when I was quoted for two and it only took two. After complaining I was told that the minimum was three hours, which begs the question why I was quoted for two hours and prepaid for two hours? Since then my goods have been in the storage unit and they charge my card every month for storage fees. I am now moving and am looking to move my goods from the storage unit. After I decided to use a different moving company because their quote was 1/4 of Mid-Atlantic's quote, Mid-Atlantic proceeded to tell me I would be charged a $350 warehouse handling fee. This fee was never mentioned at any point and is not present in the contract. This fee is simply being charged for them to open the storage unit. I believe they are charging this fee to try to force me to use them as my moving company. I have continually pressed them as to what other services are being provided for this fee, and have not gotten no response.Desired Settlement: The original billing dispute is in the past. However, being charged $350 in order to open my storage unit so I can remove my items is completely outrageous. I do not intend to pay this fee as it is unquestionably unethical and no services are being provided, except giving me a key. If there is a smaller fee to have someone there to give me the key (even though I am bending backwards to meet their timelines) I will be willing to pay a nominal fee.

Response:

After speaking with [redacted] from the company on 10/4/13 he stated the customer was charged $250.00 which included 2 hour minimum and 1 hour travel fee.
