My Social Calendar Reviews (49)

I Heard About My Social Calender On The Radio ,and I thought is was a good place for young hardworking people to mingle and know each other. I was wrong. They gave me a call and I went to their office at Tysons corner va. The lady that welcomed me was so rude. They only thing she was interested in was how much I make a year and if I will be able to afford to be in the group. And she was also acting for because of my skin color. I was soo uncomfortable until I had to leave. I will never recommend anyone to go there. I think it's a scam.

February 23, 2016
Dear Revdex.com:
I am sorry that your office has been contacted by **. [redacted] regarding
her membership with My Social Calendar.
As I recall, [redacted] joined My Social Calendar on January 14,
2016 because she was seeking to improve her social life and meet other quality
singles like her. After discussing her situation for one hour with our Washington
DC Membership Director (MD), [redacted] joined our club because she saw the value in
the services we were providing.
The MD told [redacted] that a 15-month membership with our club
was $1500.00. They agreed this would work for both parties, and [redacted] then
proceeded to read, and sign our standard contract.
With respect to canceling a membership, the policy of My
Social Calendar is that if a member moves to a location more than 100 miles
from one of our affiliated clubs or gets married, he or she may cancel. [redacted]
has not satisfied any of the these conditions for cancellation and thus, [redacted]’s
membership with E&A will continue for the life of the contract which
expires 4/14/17.
Furthermore, [redacted] called and lied to our customer service
representative on January 20th indicating that her mother passed
away and wanted a refund.  That is
simply inexcusable to claim her mother died when in fact she did not.  Finally, she initialed on her contract
that she is separated after an 8-month marriage. Being separated qualifies her
for membership. If she was in fact married, she would not have qualified to join
MSC.
With warmest regards,
Alison A[redacted]
Vice-President
My Social Calendar

I would recommend My Social Calendar not just because I met my girlfriend at one of their events 8 months ago (true story, my 5th event, her second- scooped her right up an very proud of it ) but because of the people. Recently I moved into a new house and had 6 people offer to help me paint and move furniture the weekend I got in the place. I met them all here in the group and if you flash back to a year ago today for me, that would not have been happening. Needless to say I look forward to the day when I can return the favor. Everyone I've met here pretty much from the beginning has had a really great head on their shoulders and just wanted to meet a better quality person than what we/they were finding in the (sometimes shady) bar or app scene. I agree with the poster below me that you should ask for recommendations. Rachel is the person I am supposed to ask and she has come up with some pretty good events for who I want to meet, some I wouldn't have considered. I too joined with Katy (Katie?) and she was very thorough.

Love Love Love this experience so far! The people I met so far are for the most part wonderful and you WILL do something weird and end up loving it: example, Maple Tapping Syrup from a tree! If you want to date just be friendly, everyone is single. And if not, everyone is single so you'll meet a ton of friends who actually want to do unique things on your schedule. I am a Manhattan member, but they have some Jersey events too and a few in the boroughs here and there if you prefer.

I have lived in Washington, D.C. for 8 years, am a single, 36 year old, educated woman with a professional career, and my own nonprofit organization. I am also very active with friends and volunteer work. My sister heard about My Social Calendar (MSC) on the radio and suggested I look into it.
I read some of the testimonials on the My Social Calendar website and it seemed like a professional organization where I can meet other like-minded folks, with whom I’d have things in common, so I thought it would be a good fit.
The representative from the Washington, DC area was very quick to call me with her sales pitch. She informed me that the organization runs 30-40 events per month which are geared towards folks in my demographic; in the 30s and 40s age range and that I would be a great fit. I was also told event hosts would welcome new members to events and introduce them to other members. She advised that events are a nice atmosphere where other members, who represent a nice balance of age and sexes, could mingle and get to know each other. That was a flat out lie. Because I’m a social person, I had no problem introducing myself to new people. However, the age composition is a complete joke. The first two events I attended were attended mostly by people in their 40s and 50s and EVEN older! I felt like I was hanging out with my parents and grandparents! This is great for them, but not for a young, single gal looking to meet friends the same age and possibly a partner.
The price to join is very high. A yearly membership contract costs around $1,500.00, which you are required to pay up front. There is no month-to-month fee. The membership cost does not include payment of tickets to shows, concerts, beach excursions, etc. You will also have to pay your way for food, drinks and parking at events as well, so you end up paying way more than $1,500.00.
There is no way out of the contract outside of MSC breaching one of their terms, or you move to an area 150 miles away from a local event. The only thing that MSC does differently from other free social groups is that you sign a contract, pay $1,500.00 to join and are stuck with it. MSC does not provide any more services than other social groups, other than a credit check on members and booking and hosting the events.
I would not recommend MSC to anyone and suggest looking elsewhere for social activities; such as volunteering or getting involved with actual professional organizations and/or industry associations. This is a borderline scam and you'll have more money to actually go have some fun with people through other activities.

+2

I won't give a coveted 5 star quite yet, but can give a solid 3 and a half nearing 4. I have gone to 2 events so far and had different experiences at each. My first was a theater performance. I love theater so I thought this was going to be a great starter but it wasn't as interactive as I hoped. Though I did get introduced, I had to leave right after the show and couldn't go to the after show mixer with the group. The second event was the New Member Cocktail event and I had a great time. Host was Julie, Katy signed me up and Rachel is my Director. All fantastic and helpful. But I recommend not going to a show if you can't stay afterwards to meet and greet until you met some people first.

When I first looked into My Social Calendar for the Detroit area, it struck me as a professional organization, which had its own Event Facility, where members of the staff would welcome members to events, introduce them to each other, and provide a nice atmosphere where other members, who represent a nice balance of age and sexes, could mingle and get to know each other.
I was dead wrong.
The events are not hosted at a special Event Facility, but at local restaurants, bowling alleys, and other venues. No special preparations are made, other than reserving seating. Discounts at such events are minimal (if they exist at all) and, of course, nearly all events require additional costs (e.g. your meal at a restaurant, parking, renting equipment, etc.)
Despite promises in their Handbook, the Event Hosts actually do not take the time to introduce you to everyone. At best, there's a general “stand around and introduce yourself to the group” (which in my experience has only happened at one event), but no one-on-one introductions.
The age composition is a joke, as it skews heavily towards people in their 40s and 50s. This is probably great for people in this age range, but for those of us in our 20s and 30s, your chances of finding dates (which, face it, is the main reason people join) are slim. The local MSC does host 2 – 4 events a month specifically geared towards 20 and 30 year olds, but these are on weekday nights (which is very inconvenient if you have a night job or have a high-power career which requires 12+ hours of work each weekday).
The price for joining is high. I have a yearly membership which cost $1,000 (and was discounted). There is no way out of the contract outside of MSC breaching one of their terms, or you move to an area 150 miles away from a local event.
Basically, the only thing that sets MSC apart from any free M[redacted] social group are the following points:
* You pay $1,000 or more to join and are stuck with it;
* MSC does not provide any more services than M[redacted], other than a credit background check on members and booking reservations.
I suggest looking elsewhere for social activities. This is a borderline scam and you'll have more money to actually go have some fun with people through M[redacted], volunteer organizations, or amateur sport leagues.
