New House Worx Reviews (54)

Review: Around $5000 paid contract work was to be done in 2-3 days. Poor workmanship /non completion of work which started in July 2014 & still is not done. They will not answer my calls & will not call back. I have gone the extra mile to give them the time to complete which included buying items myself.Desired Settlement: I would like the shower purchased and a refund of of $2000 to get someone in to complete the work.

Review: In August 2014, we hired New House Worx to install a siding in our home. The contractor came in November to do the job but was not completed. The garage door and the chimney vent need to be painted but due to cold weather the contractor told us he would come back when the weather warm-up to do the painting. We called him in May 2015, to remind him about the painting and also the siding he installed started coming off. He said "I'm a carpenter not a painter." Told us his not going to paint the garage door and the chimney vent but he would be over the next day to take a look at the siding. Up till now NO SHOW/ NO CALL!!! We called him several times but refused to return the calls. We called New House Worx left messages and we have never received a return call. We believe that we are being intentionally avoided, once they get their money you are history.Desired Settlement: We would like for New House Worx to come out to repair the siding, paint the garage door and the chimney vent.

Review: I signed a contract for a bath remodel with this company in April 2014. I also gave them a payment for 1/3 of the price. I was told it would be a 2 day job & could have it completed by Memorial Day. I phoned the company after 2 weeks & asked when they would be getting to my job. I was told it would be at least 6 more weeks! They finally called to begin on August 13, confirmed with me on 8-12-14, then called at 8 AM on the 13th to say they could not start. We made another date to start on 9-11-14, at which time they insisted on the 2nd payment, & informed me it would take 4-5 days to complete! Demo was done, but walls were damaged in the process. I tried to speak with the owner, [redacted],that day & several times since, but he refuses to speak to me. I invited him to come out to see the damage on several occasions, which he has also refused to do. The owner has offered to do a wood wainscoating to repair the damaged walls, but I declined this option. On 9-15-14 I realized they had the wrong base for the shower, & was told "they would fix the walls if I kept that base!" This was unacceptable because the base that I ordered was "low profile" at 1 1/2" to accomodate my 85 year old mother who uses a walker, the 1 they had was 4 1/2". It took another 5 days for them to call to re-order the correct base! We re-scheduled for 10-9-14 & a different installer came at 7 AM, & left at 8:30! I was told he went for supplies & would "work a long day tomorrow & Saturday to finish the job" On 10-10-14 no one showed & I was told that the installer quit & they don't know what they're going to do.The co-owner [redacted] was supposed to come to check the damage at noon, at this time, I don't know if he is coming or not. After 6 months of frustration I want a resolution! I saw this company at the Pgh Home Show, & expected the shower that was on display. They tried a "bait & switch" with the shower heads, & grab bars, which I did point out, but ... not sure what is happening with that eitherDesired Settlement: I would like to have the job completed as per contract & expectations from display at the home show. I want the damage that they caused to be replaced in an acceptable manner.

Dear Ms. [redacted]:

I am writing in regards to Complaint ID# [redacted]

This complaint from [redacted] is hearsay and should not be recorded.

Several attempts were made to install the bathroom for Ms. [redacted]. The installation of the bathroom by New House Worx was delayed several times by Ms [redacted]. Installation was scheduled to start at the end of July, but New House Worx was informed that the other bathroom at the [redacted] residence was being remodeled and both bathrooms could not be out of commission at the same time.

Additional attempts to schedule an installation were made on August 1, 2014, August 11, 2014, and August 14, 2014. Finally, it was agreed that the installation could be started on September 11, 2014.

During the installation process, it was discovered that the shower base was the wrong type and a new one was ordered for her.

We offered several alternative solutions to repair the walls around the tub walls, but Ms. [redacted] wanted us to replace the drywall in the entire bathroom.

To help to rectify any situations with the installation, one of the owners of New House Worx made a visit to the [redacted] residence on 10-10-2014. At that time, Ms. [redacted] accused New House Worx of a “bait and switch” of grab bars and shower heads. It was then explained to Ms. [redacted] that the grab bars she actually received were more expensive and of a higher quality than the ones she saw at the Pittsburgh Home Show.

We will continue to complete the installation process to the contract specifications.

Sincerely,

New House Worx

Review: We signed a contract with Pittsburgh Exteriors on 10/30/13 for Kitchen remodel. We also gave a $1500 deposit. The plan was to start after the winter. In May 2014 I Gave $1000 deposit as they said it was needed to begin measuring and buying supply. Since May They have barely returned any of my calls. They will not provide a start date. When I do get a return call it's from a [redacted] who says they are working on it or there are kitchens ahead of us. I am very frustrated and feel as though they are avoiding me.Desired Settlement: I would Like both of my deposits back. the initial $1500 and the $1000 I paid in May.

Review: In 2009, my husband and I had the windows in our home replaced by a company called [redacted] Unfortunately, not long after, [redacted] went out of business. We received notification from them that if we had any problems to call Pittsburgh Exteriors, LLC.In Octobe 2013, one of interior glass panels broke in one of the double hung windows. For several days I called Pittsburgh Exteriors and left several messages, without as much as a return call. Finally, the Friday before Thanksgiving 2013, I received a call back from a young woman (I forgot to write down her name.) She took all of my information and told me that window replacement would be under a lifetime warranty and that we would be r[redacted]onsible for labor. Fine. She told me that she would pull our information from storage and would order the window. She told me that someone would call on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to schedule the installation.Thanksgiving came and went and I had not yet received a call back to schedule the installation. I called again, two weeks after Thanksgiving and left another message, explaining that we are selling our home and really need to have the window replaced. Again, no call back. I again left several messages with no call back. This went on until the week before Christmas when I called and spoke to a gentleman who told me to call back after January 9th, that they weren't taking window orders at this time. He was quite rude and quite short with me. I said I would call back after the 9th.I called back on January 9th, and when I did, the number for the business was out of service. I know from the first person that I spoke with back in October, that the company was moving to a new facility so that might have had something to do with it.I called again today on a whim to see if the number worked, to my surprise, a woman named [redacted] answered and I gave her my story. She told me that someone would call today, and guess what, no one has called. I just want my window fixed.Desired Settlement: I would like my window to be replaced, under warranty, as promised, and I want it done ASAP. As I mentioned, I have been trying to have it fixed since October, so we can sell our house. I understand this happened during a busy, holiday time for everyone, but it is UNACCEPTABLE that no one has returned a call and I have been given the run around the few times I have actually spoken with someone.

Thank You

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I have attached the letter we received from [redacted] when they went out of business. It clearly states that if we have a problem with an [redacted] installed product to call Pittsburgh Exteriors and they will help. So, this is a Pittsburgh Exteriors problem, simply because they have taken over for [redacted]s clients.

I can also provide our warranty, if needed.

Pittsburgh Exteriors may have contacted the manufacturer, but NO ONE from either the manufacturer or Pittsburgh Exteriors has contacted me to let me know of the order or installation. I would like to see correspondence/receipt of the claim that have made that they have contacted the manufacturer regarding the replacement window.

As I mentioned before, I would like my window replaced, under warranty, as promised, and I want it done ASAP. Again, it is UNACCEPTABLE that I have been trying to have the window fixed since October and nothing has been done.

Regards,

Review: Paid deposit for a new roof that was to be completed in two weeks and it now almost five weeks with no roofDesired Settlement: Would like my deposit back or job performed as agreed

Review: I bought a shower from this company and had them install it. I have a warranty fpr it.The base of the shower cracked. The shower was manufactor of the base [redacted]. I tried to contact Pittsburgh Pa.kitchen & bath. the phone is disconected.Desired Settlement: Replace the liner

Review: We signed a contract with New House Worx, formerly [redacted] on May 12, 2014. Work began on Sept. 17,2014 and continued intermittently until early November 2014 when the company stopped supplying materials for its' installer. Remaining to be provided and installed are the glass shower enclosure, a vanity and mirror and four trim pieces. The original phone number, [redacted] no longer answers but we believe the company is doing business in Maryland under the number provided. The company owners name to our knowledge is [redacted] and/or [redacted], both of the local [redacted] area. The phone in [redacted] has not been answered since mid November 2014 except by an automated message system. The messages left are not answered.Desired Settlement: We would like the cost of the materials which we have purchased to complete the job refunded to us less the $1500.00 balance which is still owed on the contract.

Review: We hired Pittsburgh Exteriors to reface our kitchen, and 2 bathroom's cabinets. We saw them at the March Home Show and signed on for an estimate. [redacted] provided the estimate and we signed a contract in mid March. We were told the work would be done in May and would take only 5 days for the kitchen and both bathrooms. We were also told they only use their own employees, no sub-contractors (see below). We called [redacted] multiple times before finally getting the contractor (actually a sub-contractor) to finally show up on July 15th. It was obvious right away that this sub-contractor was not adequately trained to reface cabinets. By day 5 (when everything was supposed to be completed) the kitchen was in shambles with only about 1/2 the refacing done. This sub-contractor continued to work to complete what he was capable of doing, constantly apologizing for his lack of training. Week 3 - Finally, an actual Pgh Ext contractor came to finish the cabinet refacing. Week 4 - The sub-contractor installed most of the new cabinet doors and disassembled our bathroom cabinets. Week 5 - The sub-contractor had completed what he could and was finished. Multiple phone calls to [redacted]... The actual Pgh Ext contractor was supposed to complete the rest of the work, but apparently had quit. Another sub-contractor completed most of the kitchen, but by now we have decided we are NOT having the bathrooms done since we couldn't go 5 weeks with both bathrooms taken apart. This is now Week 8 and we are still waiting on the turn-around shelf, stops on all the cabinets, and the undercabinet lighting!!! We have been patient up to this point, but right now just can't believe what we've been through. I still have kitchen supplies in my living room!THIS HAS BEEN A CONTRACTOR NIGHTMARE!!Desired Settlement: Finish the work and take the supplies for the bathrooms (which will not be used!) out of our house.

OUR REPLY TO COMPLAINT: This kitchen is complete and the customer is satisfied.

Review: There are 2 issues that need to be resolved.1. The owner of Pittsburgh Exteriors (PE) came on sight and accepted full payment for completion of the work. I found out afterwards that not all of the work was completed and am asking to be reimbursed for the work that was not completed. PE did not:Caulk four roof rakes where the siding meets the fascia.Caulk both sides of the brick chimney adjacent to the siding.Caulk glass block windowCaulk around the phone and electric wires where they penetrate the siding.Align the new entry door to the frame margin.Install a sufficient header above the new entry doorWindow boxes were built with short screws and fell apart after flowers were placed in them. A very dangerous situation if someone was standing under these boxes.2. An ongoing issue with water leaking over the entry way of our home.I have lived in this house for 30 years and had NEVER had water leaking over my entry way over my front door. The original roof and after 2 replacement roofs there was never any leakage. In reference to issue 1:PE put in a new entry door and they said they do not "finish" around the door, just put the door in. However, the door should be aligned straight and was not. I contacted 2 independent contractors to finish the door. Both said that the door was not aligned and both had door levels to show me. Both said that the header was not sufficient. They also noticed that caulking was not completed. If it was not for these contractors I would not have known this. The results would have been water damage and would have had a front entry door that was not aligned. That is why I did not call PE to come back. Because the owner was here and looked over the work. He waited until I wrote the check and he accepted payment in full when the work was not completed. The owner promised me he would reimburse me for this work and then changed his mind. He also promises a "lifetime warranty" on his companys work and product. In reference to issue 2:Water flowing over the entry way when it rained. The owner came to my home and said he would put a "gutter roof" on. I asked him and his worker 3 times each - asking if this would stop the problem. Both said yes each time I asked. A free gutter roof installed was a nice gesture - however, it did not fix the issue. Water still comes down constantly when raining or when the snow melts - enough that you cannot even stand at the front door. I just want the issue fixed because it is not only a water damage issue, now it is an ice issue at the entry way and therefore a safety issue. Just checked the morning of 2/5/2014 and there is water leaking over the length of the front of the house. Worse is over the entry way.The owner will no longer return my phone calls or text. The owner said in his last text to me on 11/9/2013 that "we will fix it". The owner knows that I need at least a full day's notice so that I can call off work - so if I am called at 6-6:30PM I will not be able to take the next day off. I have used my time off before and no one from PE showed up. The last contact by phone was with an employee at PE (12/9/2013) around 6:30PM and told him that I could not take the next day off. I let him know that any day afterwards I could be available with a full day's notice and never heard back.Based on my past experience with PE - I must be present while they are working on my home.I also have pictures and videos of these issues.Good points: 1. Tried to fix issue 2 with gutter roof.2. His employees, the people that I dealt with are very nice.3.Was always available and willing to talk until November when I pushed to get these issues resolved.Bad Points:1. The 2 issues above.2. Being treated as if I am in the wrong and bad person for wanting these issues resolved and the warranty honored. I waited too long waiting for PE to honor their warranty. I really wish this could have been resolved without having to go to the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: Reimbursement for work that this company did not complete. Also, I am concerned that this company does not know how to fix the water leaking issue and concerned about them doing more damage. It is now a water damage and safety issue with the ice forming at the entry.

Review: I entered into an agreement with this company to remodel my kitchen. They completed the majority of the work and left on Friday, April 18th. Even after numerous calls to the company and speaking with supervisors, I was promised an installer would come to finish the job. As of today (July 13th), they have not been back to complete the remaining work, leaving multiple aspects of the kitchen unfinished and some parts needing to be repaired already.Desired Settlement: I would like for New House Works to come out to repair and finish the job, since they have lied to the bank by telling them that the job was already completed. The bank has paid them, now I have no money to hire a new company to repair and finish the job.

Review: We signed a contact with [redacted], one of the owners of New House Worx, on 8/2/2014 to remodel our bathroom. We made a down payment of $2700. They measured for the work in late September but did none of the work. We are unable to contact anyone from the company at this time. The phone numbers we were given have been disconnected and the company's website does not work any more. We have [redacted] home phone number but he has not returned our calls.Desired Settlement: We would like a refund of the $2700 down payment.

Review: Sept.24,2014...Salesman [redacted] visited and we described what we wanted. He said no problem with the sizes, style and cost would be approx $1,300. This required a down payment. We wrote the [redacted] (we have a copy) for the requested amount of $660.00 to Newhouse Worx. No contract was given to us and I realized later I neglected to ask for a copy. The check was cashed soon after, according to our Bank statement. The following week,a [redacted] came and very quickly measured the windows. We never heard from this company after that as to an installation date-NOTHING. I began making numerous calls to this company and only once I got to talk to a live person who told me the install would be the week of Nov.17th if all went well with weather and other installations. I never heard another word from them. I began to wonder about all this and started calling Monday, Nov 23rd approx. Again no one was there. Their phone prompts describe several numbers including ext [redacted]. I left various messages constantly to call me and NEVER a response ...not even to this day, Jan.16,2015. Finally, [redacted] called a couple weeks prior to Christmas and said they are backed up with bad weather, the windows weren't in yet etc; there is absolutely ZERO customer service and we question the legitimacy of this company. Total reimbursement of the $660.00 to me is my requirement and the contract destroyed. They have still given us NO installation date. I want nothing to do with this company, no further business will be done with them.Desired Settlement: Total reimbursement of our check [redacted] for $660. dated Sept. 24,2014 to Newhouse Worx. The Check copy is in our possession if needed. They cashed that check soon after Sept 24,2014. Also I want the contract (?) destroyed. We want no business dealings with this company.

Review: We met New House Worx at the Home and Garden Show in Pittsburgh, 2013. We entered into a "contract" in May and modified on July 3rd, 2014. First point, be aware...any owners willing to come talk on the night before a long weekend...hmmmm. Hind sight is 20/20.Between 7/3/2014 and 10/1/2014 was many phone messages (very few conversations) and emails (minimal responses). We were not going to quit. They were clearly in lies and delay tactics. We met with an attorney who introduced us to the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act. He pointed out, given documentation by us, that they were in violation of several parts of that law--no start date, confusion of company address, requiring more than 1/3 cost, etc. Please review the act. Homeowner Improvement Consumer Protection Act. Look at your contract and ensure they meet the requirements. On 10/1/2014 we drove to their site and asked to speak with the owner. Long story short....we received a check. Went to the bank they use and cashed it. So glad to wash our hands of this place. Please, avoid this scam at all costs. They promote themselves as a Christian company. Christians don't screw customers. They treat them the way they want to be treated. I'm not going to preach. Just know, they are NOT what/who they say they are. Avoid them at all costs. Research their history--the owners, the business--west moreland county courthouse shows records that would make you blink twice. I regret that I did not go beyond the Revdex.com.In peace now... :)Desired Settlement: We drove out there, 90 minute drive, and received our money back. We have spent many hours, days, and lost nights sleep dealing with this company. Avoid them! They are moving to other states. [redacted] is a fraud!

Dear Ms. [redacted]:

I am writing in regards to Complaint ID# [redacted]

This complaint from [redacted] is hearsay and should not be recorded,

New House Worx had agreed to do a kitchen remodel for [redacted] and the customer became impatient and cancelled the contract. A new contract was then written.

Then the customer began trying to get New House Worx to do more work than was in the original contract.

Consequently, we cancelled the contract and refunded the customer their entire deposit. This incident should not go on our record.

Sincerely,

New House Worx
