North American Power Reviews (%countItem)

I feel like an it. My husband in 2011 (NOW EX) signed up for this racket, he was in charge of paying the electric bill (in my name). He never told me and apparently could do it in *** without my consent. The bill still comes from DCL, so I never questioned it. I have taken over the bill in 2015, after our divorce, still never looked. So for the past 3 years, until I discovered it today, I have been paying DOUBLE what DCL charges. Please disregard the A+ Rating, they might be good for the short term, but they send you information about any are changes (so they say) but you won't see it on your DCL (or provider) that they changing anything. I feel sick with how much money they robbed from me. I was told your spouse in PA can change it without your permission. Beware this scam! #WOKE

This company depends on you to not notice when your contract runs out, they never sent me any reminders or called. My rate tripled and I was paying lots more, it happened in the winter and I did not notice it right away until I had been overcharged Hundreds of dollars. This company will rob you blind and not feel sorry about it.

Was ok while I was under contract. After the contract expired they decided to hack my rate way up to .1599 per KWH. If they notified me by mail I didnt read it. I am a big electric user and by the time I caught it they had overcharged me hundreds of dollars. Pirates in my opion.

North American Power the worst company ever. They breached my agreement for contract renewal by simply dismissing whats written on their paper. They said it never happen even though I mailed to them the agreement proof. The supervisor was nasty together with the other customer service representatives. Somebody should look into this company deeper inside. Something is wrong with the company and the people working in it. This company should be investigated.

BEWARE!! PLEASE AVOID this company and COMPARE rates with your utility company vs NA Power (ESCO company) if you are a new, potential customer or no longer in one of NA Power's "plans". My husband handled and paid the electric bill. He passed away in 2016. I received e-bill from my utility company in June-NA Power's portion was $139 where during the whole billing cycle NO ONE was in the house!! Something was very wrong!! The only item using electric was the refrigerator in a small 1100 sq ft house. This prompted me to investigate. Research uncovered that by comparison, my utility company would have charged $49 for the same billing cycle. Looking into this further, I discovered that my husband had chosen North American Power variable rate and our account was eligible for renew in 2015 (so no longer on a plan). NA Power charged me 14.49 per kwh; whereas THEIR WEBSITE claims there charge for their 24 month plan at 6.19 cents per kwh! So they charged me more than 2x what their website advertises. Totally taking advantage, scalping an unsuspecting customer!!
AND, HERE IS MORE: NA Power failed to provide my utility company with their charges in the April bill; so my May bill had NA Power charges for April and May. Also, in April, I received a post card in the mail to sign and return. It seems NA Power currently has a class action suit again them for misrepresenting their costs per kwh. THINK TWICE, do you really want to use this company as your ESCO???

I see a lot of negative reviews for North American Power, as well as many other electric suppliers. I have been a customer of NAP since 2012. I have not encountered any issues with service, notifications of changes or expiration of my current plan. They communicated very efficiently and in a timely manner as expected. However, I also put a reminder on my calendar as to when my contact expires just in case I missed an email or a mailing, as we are all aware, these things do happen. I have been very satisfied with this company. It seems as if people only post comments when they have a complaint, so I thought a positive comment was warranted.

A representative from North American Power came to my house and claimed to be representing the government sponsored power providers which was not true. He convinced me to switch to them because of this. Now I can't reverse it because I went away for a few days and time expired on reversing the switch. Because the salesperson misrepresented the program *** to be made whole.

We show that on 5/15/2018, an enrollment request for this customer’s electric and gas accounts was submitted. We submitted a cancellation request for both accounts have been processed and both ETF’s have been waived.

If you require anything further please feel free to contact me directly.

A woman came to my door and claim she is from an energy provider company, she said my energy bill is high because I'm using BGS, she can help me save money by switching to her company.
It is worth noting she said my energy bill can get higher or even double, as BGS is going to be removed from my area meanwhile everyone else in my building had switched.

My account was referred to North American Power and Gas by my gas provider. I received a letter dated January 26, 2018, stating that my new variable rate was $6.19/MCF. I called to cancel my service on February 1, 2018. My next gas bill was prepared on February 16, 2018, and I was charged $7.99/McF by North American Power. Based on my usage for the month I was overcharged by $23.22. I called to request a refund but I was informed that there is no way possible for me to obtain one and that I shouldn't be surprised at that higher rate because I was on a variable rate.
The crazy thing is, I was on the market with my provider on a variable rate that fluctuated between $3.0727 and $3.4106/McF with usage-based charges included. North Amercian Power was already soaking me at the $6.19 rate. I am suspicious that they charged the higher rate because I canceled my account.

Hello,

Complaint #***

It was determined that *** was enrolled onto *** program. By doing so, his account was automatically enrolled onto a variable rate product with us. Due to the stipulations of this program a customer cannot take advantage of any fixed rate plans offered by their respective supplier (***). In order for a customer to qualify for a fixed rate they would first have to contact their utility (***) and request to be removed from the ***, at that point they will be eligible to enroll onto a rate contract. As of 2/16/2018, ***’s account has been cancelled and switched back to ***.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Sincerely,

On 11/2017over the phone conversation with customer service I locked my electricity delivery for 3 years at the fixed rate of 0.109. However in January 2018 I got electric bill indicating that my delivery rate at 0.1299. I called North American Power customer service and they admitted wrong billing and issues me the check of $ 11.13 as a compensation of the difference. Unfortunately, the correct rate hasn't been adjusted and my February bill indicated the rate of 0.1599 that is even higher than previous month.

Hello,
Complaint # ***, ***
According to the customer’s account details, we show that she enrolled onto a 36-month $0.1029/kWh but the fixed rate still hadn’t been reflected on her account. Therefore, as a means to make the customer whole she was refunded for the bill cycles that were affected. Upon learning about this matter this issue has been resolved and the correct rate plan has applied and is reflected on the customer’s account.
Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

After "plan" was over, I was moved to the "variable" rate which was about DOUBLE than the PECO rate. This company makes its money by hoping you'd not pay attention. Gently said: while legal, this is not a decent way of making money. My feeling: this is a TOTAL RIPOFF.

Awful company!!! Unbelievable!!! it's hell when end of your contact. After the end of a contract, if you want to continue a new contract, they will charge you DOUBLE rate in TWO MONTHS before starting the new contract rate. Note, I am still their customer, but they have to charge DOUBLE rate for TWO MONTHS before using the new contract Rate. Avoid this company, Don't sign up, Don't fall into their trap.

I was offered a 12 month promotional rate through North American Power. I called to cancel my contract with them after the 12 months (no record of this on their end). In the meantime, I was charged over double the price per Kwh because my rate went to a variable rate. I called again to cancel and asked if I could be credited at least one billing cycle but was told only if I continued with them on a fixed rate plan. This plan was higher than what my local provider was offering. I cancelled my North American Power PLan but they will not refund any of my money. I feel that their business operating practices are unethical.

Hello,

***, Complaint # ***

On 9/30/2016, this customer enrolled with us via the web and selected a 12-month $0.0579/kWh fixed rate that was supplied for the indicated term length. As a standard NAPG policy, prior to the conclusion of any customer’s rate plan, a renewal notice(s) are mailed advising the customer of the impending expiration of their contract, and encourage them to contact us to renew their rate agreement before its end. As stated in these terms, if the customer takes no action, their account would default to a market variable rate.

According to the customer’s account details, they submitted their cancellation request through their utility provider, who then informed us of the customer’s intentions of cancelling and their service end date. As of 2/15/2018, the account in question has been cancelled and has not incurred any additional NAPG supply charges beyond the indicated service end.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Sincerely,

Compliance Department North American Power & Gas, LLC

Just as others have said, do not use their service they will price gouge you. Their customer support is absolutely terrible I cancelled a plan 3 months ago and they have billed me incorrectly, and 6 phone calls and 2 months later I am still fighting with them. What a waste. Save your time and money, take your business elsewhere. I also spoke with Jeanenna as others have mentioned. She was no help.

Hello ***o begin, allow us to apologize for any adverse experience you might have had while working to get your grievances addressed.
After completing an investigation, it was determined that due to agent error, your account was not properly cancelled or switched back to your default provider within 1-2 billing cycles of receiving your cancellation request. Since 1/9/2018, attempts were made to contact you to inform you of this, however, our efforts to reach you were unsuccessful.
As a means of resolving this matter a corrective refund in the amount of $63.33 has been issued to you. This refund was calculated at the Utility’s rate-to-compare for the billing cycle (11/17/2017 – 12/19/2017) for which you were still enrolled with us and should not have been.
Your refund will be issued in the form of a check and should be received within 14-21 business days.
Should you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
Sincerely,
Compliance Department

I had no problem until I called to cancel after having had them for almost a year. I called them to confirm that there would be no cancellation fee. I know that when I signed the contract almost a year ago it stated no cancellation fee, however, when I called to cancel today a Moses told me there would be a fee. It's not nice to lie to consumers, that is how you get a bad name. Lying company!

one month out of contract before I could renew and they almost quadrupled my rate.

They continue to Bill me under North American power, *** cannot resolve the issue, they stated it has to be resolved by contacting North American power. North American Power Response

Hello,

Complaint # ***

Providing customers with a great experience is top priority for us at NAPG. Therefore, we apologize for any inconvenience or adverse experience *** might have had.

After reviewing ***’s account records, it was verified that on 8/7/2017 she contacted us with the intentions to cancel her account. However, the agent who handled the call, in error did not properly process her account’s cancellation. As a result, her account remained on flow with us. Therefore, as a means to remedy this issue, the cancellation of her account has been properly processed and a corrective refund totaling $88.55 will be issued to her. ***’s refund was determined by calculating the difference between the rate she was charged with us, and what she would have paid at her Utility’s rate-to-compare on her 9/28/2017 – 10/30/2017 and 10/30/2017 – 11/30/2017 bill cycles. Her refund will be issued in the form of a check and should be received within 14-21 business days.

Typically, once the cancellation of an account is initiated it can take up to 1-2 billing cycles before said account is switched back to the customer’s default supplier service. Therefore, in ***’s case, she’ll again receive another refund at the difference of her Utility’s rate-to-compare for any additional invoice periods she incurs NAPG supply charges while transitioning back to ***.

Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

Sincerely,

Compliance Department North American Power & Gas, LLC

Customer Response

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because: I was told on August 7th by the representative that I would be charged until the billing cycle ended on August 27th and I would be able to switch back over after that. I was never told at any time it would take 1 to 2 billing Cycles. I recently was told that again by the representative who was resolving my issue that I would be refunded the difference back starting the billing cycle August 28th. At no time again was I told it would take one to two billing cycles and that it would not affect me until the end of September. Therefore my expectation is that I would be refunded the difference from the August 28th start that billing cycle

Sincerely

I was one day late on renewing my plan and they charged me 9.99KWh per month and 6.22 for gas, if I didn't call it would've went up to 11.0KWh!!!!!!! This is absolutely insane and they are price gouging their customers. This means my bill with be over double. It's best to stay with *** energy to avoid paying more in the long run. They know eventually you will default. The manager Jeannian was of no help what so ever and told me there was nothing she could do, not even a payment plan. She also told me there was no one above her that I could talk to. .
