Review: I had called [redacted] which I was lead to believe it would solve a [redacted] issue. They said they would transfer me to a [redacted] Technical Support who would help me. This turned out to be PCUPDATE SUPPORT LLC, ,10 CHESWOLD BLVD 1-D

NEWARK, DE 19713-TOLL FREE NO.- 1-800-896-8394-EMAIL- [email protected]

Unfortunately I gave them access to my PC and they told me that I had a Zeus Trojan Virus and could remove it and secure my PC for $399.95 by check and warranty for 1 year. I asked for an invoice to which they said okay and I asked the the dialog history that we had also. They did not send either. I started to get suspicious and had another local PC technician come and look at my PC.

This is the information the this technician found on my PC:

Date/Time,Threat,Source,Affected Files,Response,Detected By

30/08/2013 11:31 PM,Mal_Banker,Malware,C:[redacted]\del_run.exe,Removed,Manual Scan

30/08/2013 11:31 PM,Mal_Banker,Malware,C:\[redacted]IMBK_Shortcut.exe,Removed,Manual Scan

31/08/2013 12:06 AM,GRAY_[redacted],Spyware,D:\ProgramData\iWin Games\DesktopAlerts\WebUpdater.exe,Removed,Manual Scan

31/08/2013 12:23 AM,Mal_Banker,Malware,D:[redacted]del_run.exe,Removed,Manual Scan

31/08/2013 12:24 AM,Mal_Banker,Malware,D:\[redacted]IMBK_Shortcut.exe,Removed,Manual Scan

As you can see this is what PCUPDATE SUPPORT LLC had put on my PC after I gave them access.

PCUPDATE SUPPORT LLC called here September 1, 2013 several times at 3:12am, 3:13am and 3:48am, when I answered each time no one was there. I feel/sense they were calling as they tried to gain access to my PC and Bank accounts. Thanks goodness my PC was secured by this other technician with additional Virus protection. Also the banking institution site was down for maintenance and they could not gain entry to my accounts.

All my accounts have since been changed completely and credit card companies have been alerted as well.

I did not and will not send them a check. They tried to scam me.Desired Settlement: I wish to have the $399.95 waived that they said I owed as well as I do not want any further communication with them. I also want to have Revdex.com action against these illegal actions and have this complaint publicly listed without my personal information.

Review: I went on line to find [redacted] tech support number. 1[redacted] To fix the problem with my printer, I gave them remote access to my computer. [redacted]" told me I had a Zeus Trojan horse and connected me to PC Update Support at 800.896.8394. Told me I had to use a certified [redacted] shop to get rid of the horse. They showed me a couple of times a website front page 'proving' that they were certified official [redacted] tech. $300 they would rid me of the horse and fix my printer. They told me that I could trust them because they don't charge up front. I would send them a check IF the problem was solved to my satisfaction. They wanted my check number which like a fool I gave them. Later in the evening, I got this message from [redacted] This is [redacted] I have finished all my work on your computer. now your computer is totally safe and secure from viruses hackers, spywares, malwares, adwares, trojans from your computer every thing is safe and secure. now I am just going to exit out from your computer.PCUPDATE SUPPORT LLC

CHECK NO : [redacted] Later in the evening I got a call from [redacted] telling me that my [redacted] need Black ink. Today, I bought a new black ink cartridge, but changing that did NOT fix the problem, so I got worried and found that this company has a D+ rating. I hired a local, reputable computer tech and he checked every thing on my computer and in just minutes found no Trojan, no evidence that there had been a trojan and got my printer to work. Today, PC Update called me. I told them that their service and instructions did not fix my printer and that I was not going to pay $300 to be told to buy ink and I told them I was not satisified and would not work with them anymore. They called several more times, but I didn't answer the phone. Now, I have gotten an email invoice for Account [redacted]or $300. The Due Date is 8/30/2013. I will not pay this bill.Desired Settlement: I want this bill to be waived. In the mean time, I don't non-payment of this bill to add more charges to unending invoices or to effect my credit rating.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: My dilemma began when I attempted to access my account on Verizon, no luck, I called Verizon Customer Service. The Verizon Tech said he would have to have access to my computer to check on the problem and told me that my system had been hacked with a virus called ‘'Zeus” and he recommended a company that could remotely fix my computer that night and clean it up and would guarantee their work and of course charge a fee of $199.95 per unit (meaning another laptop). I feared the worst but this was Verizon. I agreed and the Verizon Tech got PC UPDATE SUPPORT, LLC, on line and they took over. The next day I notified my accounts of the virus and attempted to log on to my bank account, never mind, the fix didn’t work so I called then (Bank). They gave me a temporary password so I could go into my account and set new passwords, that logon will not work either. I ran my security program which found three viruses.

I received an Invoice (E-Mail) stating the terms and conditions of the agreement. At this pint, reading the invoice, they want me to hire them to provide IT services to support my laptops and internet provider issues. I agreed to the fee relying on the company’s connection with Verizon but at this point I have no desire to employ them or continue dealing with them. I don’t believe they fixed my problem and I don’t want to haggle with them about it. I believe they scammed me by representing one thing and not delivering. Using well known and trusted companies to make contact is dishonest.Desired Settlement: because of the company decietful policy and practices I do not want any further contact nor do I expect to pay the$400.00 fee for work that was not complete.

Review: On 18 December 2014, based on an issue with my iPad involving a black screen, I did a search for [redacted] iPad support, and placed a call to [redacted] (later determined not to be [redacted], but a company known as Tech Help Support). The individual who answered advised I had reached the iPhone center, but he transferred me to the iPad center. I explained the problem to the tech who answered. After he asked a number of questions about my iPad and the policies of [redacted] regarding replacement, he advised they would need to run a scan on my computer and asked that I go to www.fastsupport.com to download a program to allow remote access. I did so and installed the remote access program.

The support tech initiated the scan and within less than a minute, he advised he had found a Trojan on my system, which must be removed by a certified “anti-hacking” technician who is a minimum of a “level 10”. The tech offered to look up companies or personnel who met these requirements and went off line for several minutes. Upon return to the line, he advised the closest company which could provide the necessary support was [redacted] in Austin Texas, some 186 miles away. (Note that [redacted] does not seem to exist.) He advised that the company would need my computer and all smart devices and would take about 4-5 days to resolve the problem. He quickly added that the work could also be done by a technician with remote access, and would allow me to address the problem immediately, assuring that the technician would address all computers and smart phones on my network.

I accepted this recommendation and was surprised that I was immediately connected by phone with what was later determined to be ANKVIN Tech Support, apparently a subsidiary of PCUPDATE SUPPORT. The individual at ANKVIN advises they can address the problem through remote access. Remote access was granted and I watched the individual move about in my computer. The technician also made several phone calls to me during this period, most with very poor quality, which along with the broken English of the technician, made it very difficult to understand the conversation. At any rate, within about two hours, the ‘problem’ was declared to be fixed. Due to poor quality phone connection and the difficult to understand technician, I asked the tech to use a notepad document to do a form of on line chat. In this document, the technician indicated he had resolved all software issues and protected the network, which he described as the real problem. He had reportedly solved the issue by providing a ‘fresh new ip address’ on my network. It is important to note that during and immediately after the tech support session, the ip address to which I was connected never changed from the Cebridge dynamic ip address of 24.32.41.112 located in Leesville, LA. During the discussion, I asked questions related to running another scan to prove the Trojan was removed, and questions about the other computers and smart phones on the network that were to be checked were not answered except to say that the ‘network’ had been protected. The tech even advised that I no longer needed to use any other internet security software or malware detection.

At that point the technician, [redacted], asked me to open my email program and open a new email form. [redacted] then typed an email message that advised that all computer software and network problems had been fixed by him and that I agreed to close the case as resolved, adding that I would mail a check of $699.95 for 1 year support of “2 PC + Lifetime Warranty”. Immediately thereafter, a supervisor, [redacted], came on the line and advised of the ANKVIN access number and email, and discussed the charges for the support plan. He advised they would be sending an invoice within a short time and that they only accept checks. He then was insistent that I provide him a check number and date when the check would be sent. After questioning the need, I finally gave him a check number and indicated I would mail the check the next day. The invoice in the amount of $699.95 was received within a matter of minutes, reflecting charges for “SUPPORT PLAN - 2 PC 1 YEAR with MSE”.

Feeling completely uncertain and highly concerned about these events, I did a web search for PCUPDATESUPPORT and found an incredible number of complaints on the Delaware Revdex.com site that were eerily similar to what I had experienced. Note that I also found similar complaints on line at http://www.complaintslist.com/2013/pc-update-support-scam/ . After a couple of hours of research, I then called the “24/7/365” support number provided by ANKVIN. The phone call was answered and put on hold, but after about 6 minutes, the call was terminated by an abrupt “goodbye”. I then called the number from which ANKVIN had called me earlier in the evening. Again, the call was put on hold and no one had answered after being on hold for more than 30 minutes.

I then sent an email to PCUPDATE SUPPORT and ANKVIN in reply to the invoice they had sent via email. My response advised of my issues and concerns, and indicated my belief that they had misrepresented the service provided. Quoting from the terms and conditions section of their invoice which states “It is only after the acceptance of these terms and conditions by “you” that we (ANKVIN Tech Support) will proceed to the next step of registering you as a client, charging of fee and start providing services as per the plan selected/opted by you.”, I specifically stated in my email that “Therefore, I do not accept the terms and conditions outlined in the subject invoice and do not agree to have ANKVIN Tech Support proceed to the next step of registering me as a client, charging of any fee, nor to start providing any services under the “support plan”.

On the morning of 19 December, I received a call from ANKVIN. After speaking with a female representative about my email, reiterating my issues and concerns and indicating my disagreement with the terms and conditions on their invoice, I eventually spoke to [redacted], identified as a senior manager. I endured a long and frustrating conversation in which I continued to reiterate my belief that ANKVIN and PCUPDATE SUPPORT were perpetrating a scam and emphasizing my decision not to accept the terms and conditions of their invoice, advising that they should not take any further steps to register me as a client, charge any fee or provide any services. [redacted] continued to disagree and indicate his intent to pursue me for the invoiced amount, and after approximately 45 minutes of circular arguments, I simply repeated my decision and disconnected the call.

Based on my experience, it is clear that PCUPDATE SUPPORT and ANKVIN continue their long history of poor business practices and, as shown in the multiple complaints to your agency, continue to perpetrate a scam against unsuspecting individuals through creation of fear, uncertainty and doubt.Desired Settlement: Request PCUPDATE SUPPORT and its associate company, ANKVIN Tech Support, cease and desist from contacting me and accept my decision not to accept the terms and conditions of their invoice. PCUPDATE SUPPORT AND ANKVIN should cancel the invoice and waive the proposed charges, and be cautioned against continuing to perpetrate their scam against unsuspecting individuals.

Review: I was having a issue with my printer and wanted to contact the company that makes the printer. I googled the name of the printer company and got a list of printer support companies and assumed I was dealing with the company itself. After the caller tried to find the problem with the printer, he advised that it was NOT a printer issue but instead my computer was infected with viruses!!! He showed me several sites on my computer that showed these viruses and then explained that only a [redacted]echnician could take care of this problem. He then transferred me to this "technician" and he explained that he can fix all my problems with an hour and it will cost me $229.95 for a one year warranty. I agreed to the terms and he proceeded to take over my computer and "fix" the problem. After he was finished, he asked me for just a check number and said I had to send him a check within 7 days.

I shared my story with a friend who immediately advised me that it was a scam. I thought about it and realized she was right. How could anyone fix my computer, WITHOUT ANY MONEY, and then wait for the check in the mail??? Not in this day and age!!!! So I contacted my banks and my Norton Virus protection company and they fixed any problems that I had.

I feel so violated and upset with myself for falling for this scam and the reason I am complaining about this company is so that no one else will be as gullible as me and actually send a check! I refuse to send ANY money to these people and also feel that they should be put out of business for what they are trying to do to innocent, hard working people like me who count every penny to make ends meet!!!!! Thank you.Desired Settlement: I want to see this company closed and not able to scam anyone else the way I was scammed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: I was in a hurry to locate the "800" number for my cell phone provider, which is an established provider. I plugged "800 number" and the name of the provider into my internet browser and a phone number popped up. It gave the impression of being my provider's 800 number, so I called it. A man who said he was in India (but whose company was based in Delaware) answered. I asked him if I reached my provider, and he claimed I had reached the provider and/or their affiliate. I started telling him about the fact that there was a download onto one of my Apple Devices that could be unauthorized, that one of my Devices appeared to have been stolen and that there was a high data usage. He said he would need to take a look at my system, and told me to go to [redacted]." He ran what appeared to be some scans on a screen with a black background. He then told me that my IP address was under attack and that "they" were spying on me, listening in on my calls, and had basically hijacked my system. I asked him who "they" were and he pointed to some entries populating the black screen that referenced my employer's name. I told him that this was to be expected, since I often use my work email address on my devices. He seemed to insist that my employer was somehow a "foreign" entity who was spying on my IP address. It made no sense at all. I asked him how long this purported spying and hacking had been happening, and he said "at least 7 days." He stated there was nothing I could do except bring my tv, computer, and essentially all electronic equipment into the store, or do an online security repair. He said the online repair would cost $250, and I would need to mail him a check. He asked for the sequential check number of the check I planned to use. I asked him why he would need that, and he said there could be someone with the exact same name. He then said he would need to transfer me to [redacted] for the actual repairs. The "[redacted]" employee sounded exactly like the prior person I spoke to. He was able to remotely access my computer via the same "logmein" connection the "other" person used, i.e., he was already logged in as if he were the same person. I asked him for a site address that I could use to check the legitimacy of his business, because I was becoming very suspicious by that point. I plugged in the site information he gave, and my computer froze. He said that it had probably frozen because of the hackers, and that he would repair my IP address breach and call me back. When he signed off, I called my internet provider, which is also an established company, to ask if there was any problem with people using my IP address. My internet provider advised me that this was not the case, and that in fact it was impossible because I have a "dynamic" IP address that changes from time to time. I also dialed "611" on my cell phone to call my cell phone provider that way, and the reprepsentative of my cell phone provider said there was no record of me speaking to any of their representatives or affiliates. PCUpdates called me back, and I had my internet provider on my other line. I asked my internet provider right in front of PC Updates to confirm that there was no security breach. I then told the PCUpdates representative that it seemed likely that he was attempting to perpetrate a scam, and that I was going to immediately contact the authorities. The PCUpdates representative claimed that the reason my internet provider could not find any security breach was that he (PCUpdates) had already corrected the problem. I then got disconnected from PCUpdates. Later in the day, PCUpdates emailed me a bill for $250. I emailed PCUpdates back stating that, again, it appeared they were attempting to perpetrate a scam based on all the evidence, that I was not going to pay them and that I was going to report them to the authorities. I called my internet provider again later in the evening, and they confirmed that there was not and had not been any security breach regarding my IP system, and that I was correct in believing PCUpdates was perpetrating a scam. PCUpdates is trying to take advantage of vulnerable people who are not tech-savvy by posing as established internet providers online and providing fake "800 numbers" for those providers. I have researched this scam on the internet, and I read about very similar scenarios involving PCUpdates. Thank for for looking into this issue.Desired Settlement: PCUpdates should be directed to cease and desist all communications with me. I should not be required to pay their bill, which is without basis based on what my internet provider and cell phone provider told me. There should be an investigation regarding whether they are attempting to pose as established internet providers and falsely tell people they are under a cyberattack so that they can charge $250.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.
