Honest and reliable service
Pep Boys 1800 Artesia Bl, Redondo Beach California-I brought my 94 Explorer in at the 9am appointment. Edwin greeted me and was friendly and professional. He quickly wrote up my work order. He said that it would be about 90 minutes to do. The work bays looked busy so I waited in their lounge. 1 1/2 hrs later, Edwin said that during their FREE inspection, they noticed that my front brakes would need servicing soon (maybe at the next service). I was glad that they informed of this upcoming problem. He quickly rang up my charges which included a 25% coupon off the oil change. I've been getting my auto's serviced here for a couple of years now and have been completely satisfied at every visit. The staff & mechanics at this Pep Boys are friendly, professional & HONEST. This is MY experience that I have at this Pep Boys service center. I recommend anyone that is in this location of California, that may need anything done for their auto, to come visit here.

WARNING WARNING DO NOT GO TO PEPBOYS NORTH TRYON STREET CHARLOTTE NC. Do not go to the PepBoys on North Tryon, Charlotte, NC they do not complete the job hired to do. Check out the pictures of the brake work NOT completed properly and used zip ties to hold the brake line in place. PEPBOYS Had my truck for 3 weeks and the job is not done. Also, said they would fix the transmission link and they charged us for the completed work but the transmission is still leaking. Forget trying to reach corporate office to file an official complaint. Have been waiting on call back or sitting on hold for over 2 hours on two different phone lines. As you can see in the photo still leaking and zip tie on brakes. WHAT IS THIS - WHAT IS THIS - WARNING - LIVE AGENTS DO NOT EXIST NO ONE EVER ANSWER THE CORPORATE PHONE LINE - LOOK AT HOW LONG WE WERE ON HOLD FOR A LESS THAN 15 MINUTE WAIT

People should know better
I have no idea why anyone in their right mind would take a car to Pe Boys to be diagnosed & repaired. If you're a decent auto mechanic you don't work at Pep Boys. Just ask any decent mechanic how they feel about working at Pep Boys & I'm sure they'll say that it's not exactly their dream job. If you take your car there for anything that isn't easy to do & obvious what the problem is then you earned it.

Please beware of ever using this Pep Boys location for any repair workThey constantly try to deceive people in order to have they pay much more than the repair and or service should costI only use this store when it is something simple and is convenient to me for various reasonsNow I will never use them againAlmost anytime I have taken my car there for minor issues they always turn it into a major oneThe latest incident involved a nail in my tire they said they could not fix and tried to see me an overpriced tire that did not even match the other The next day I took my car to my regular mechanic and he said the nail had not penetrated the sidewall, pulled it out and sent me on my way at no chargeThere have been other occasions that Pep Boys lied to me in order to rip me off

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, you must give us a reason why you are rejecting the responseIf no reason is received your complaint will be closed Administratively Resolved] Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:I would like to clarify the response made by Robin S*I came into the PepBoys facility in [redacted] , MI and dropped it off in the morning for an Oil Change and Tire RotationI was called hours later and told there was a problem, I was told that the vehicle was started without any oil causing severe damageWhen me and my father talked to one of the other managers, we were told when they replayed the video of the incident, that a technician brought the vehicle into the shop, raised it up, drained the oil and walked away, then came back and rotated the tires, dropped it back down and took it for a test drive like they would normally do, then said that they ended up having to push my vehicle back into the shop because it had seized upFor the oil leak issue, yes my old engine did have a small oil leak due its age, but the newer engine should not have an oil leak, that is noticeably worseIf the engine was inspected properly, and installed properly there would and should be no oil leaks(What I am understanding from that response is that, a proper job was not done installing the engine)I was told by the service manager that the place where they bought the used engine, would not fix this issue under the warrantyI was told that PepBoys would at best, split the cost of $with me, meaning I would have to pay out of my own pocket for expenses that I should not incur due to an issue not caused by me(I also feel that $is a bit of a stretch, due to the engine they purchased only costing approx$400+, I dont see how fixing an issue costs more than a used engine) I was told by the service manager and technician that worked on my vehicle that I would have to buy a new radiator due to mine deteriorating from old ageThey said they wanted it in before the newer engine arrived, so I went out with my own money and purchased a new one and brought it to themI was told repeatedly that they did me a favor by installing it for free, even though to remove the engine, you HAVE to remove the radiator, so the cost of installation would not apply due to them having to remove and install it anywayI was told by the service manager and technician that worked on my vehicle that they recommend I get a new exhaust manifold due to mine being crackedThey wanted me to go buy one if I wanted to and have it before the engine came inI bought one at my own expense and brought it into themThey also again repeatedly kept telling me that did me a favor by installing it for freeIn reality I did them a favor by buying a new one, it saved them a lot of time not having to try and remove my old exhaust manifold from my old engineFor the sensor, my dash gauge for my temperature, before I brought my vehicle in, it always read at - degrees when my engine was running, which is the average running temp of my vehicles make and model and yearNow my vehicle, when just turning the key, will jump my temperature to over the red zone of degreesSo I am unaware if my vehicle is overheating or not, which could be dangerousI was told they replaced the sensors and switches, and was told that the first ones they tried showed a low temp, then the others showed a high tempThey said it must be a wiring issue inside the dash, and was told if I wanted they could look for the issue but would charge the standard rate, and it could take - or more hoursIf PepBoys would look into my service history of my vehicle, they would see I bring it there for everythingSo if this was an issue, I would have had my vehicle in there to be fixed IMMEDIATELY, but since this was not an issue, there was nothing to fixAlso, if curious why I did not leave my vehicle at PepBoys, it is because I was threatened that if I did not come pick my vehicle up within days, that the service manager would call the police and report my vehicle as abandoned and have it towed away and I was told that he did not want to waste anymore time on my vehicleNow that does not seem very professional in my opinion and definitely is not you would expect to hear from a managerSo now, my vehicle sits at my residence, after week of driving, ill have about a approximate 12xarea of oil on my drivewayWith my old engine, after week, I would have approximately a 4xarea of oil on my drivewayThere also seems to be an idling issue just noticed recently, where every so often when my vehicle is stopped for a long period at a stop light, the idling drops from its average 1,RPMS, to around RPMS, which causes the vehicle to emit a rattle noiseI would assume that my idle was not re-adjusted to the newer engine that was installed, and was just left with whatever it was atI would also like to state that PepBoys usually has you sign a form either when you drop a vehicle off, or pick your vehicle upNo one had me sign anything either time, so I am 100% not responsible for any actions that were caused by PepBoys recklessness behavior I feel as if a new Engine was installed to begin with, then PepBoys would of not had to order engines, due to the first being bad, and the second having issuesI am looking to get this Oil Leak Fixed, Temperature/Coolant Sensor/Gauge Fixed, and the Idling Issue FixedNow, being told earlier about how PepBoys does not want to "waste anymore time" on my vehicle, PepBoys could look into there book that shows approximate times for repairs, and could write me a check for what they think a fair reimbursement price would be and I would take my vehicle to a different Authorized Dealer/Repair Shop and have them fix the vehicle properlyOtherwise, on my time when I am available, PepBoys could work on my vehicle in a proper fashion and fix these issues at their cost without need to write a check to meI really appreciate your initial response, and look forward to your reply Regards, [redacted]

The pep boys website says that they will replace headlight bulbs for about $I am a female and needed my bulbs replacedWhen I first approached the service desk, a female employee was assisting meShe was in the process of typing up the work order when a male manager approached her and told her she was doing it wrongShe needed to charge me a different wayHe then informs that it will cost me $per bulb to replace my headlights because they will have to remove my front bumper, go in through the wheel well and remove the entire headlight fixture to installAs this is not my first time replacing bulbs in this vehicle, I told the manager that you do not need to do thatYou can replace them by going in through the engine compartment, like most vehiclesHe explains to me that this is how they do it here and again says it will be $per bulbI walked outI feel as though he tried to exploit me as a female customer into unnecessary work/labor costs thinking I didn't know any different
