I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  Unfortunately during a call to Mrs. [redacted] today, I was told that PPG is done playing this Revdex.com game and will no longer help come to a conclusion.  I was told on 4 phone calls I changed my stain application method.  Though the mentioned methods are condoned by PPG I can't understand why this was their reasoning of why the stain is flaking off. I have yet to hear a good reason for this. I can apply the stain every way stated on the can and shouldn't flake. Different application method for different applications as I commented on the phone.  I was asked to subpoena the calls if I'd like to hear them. Unfortunately my 2 deck surfaces have endured so much weathering that new stain penetration would be difficult.  The thousands of dollars your company may have lost me due to your negligence and failure to provide any evidence of wrong doing is very stressful. I really believe that if you would have took stain samples as we discussed then there would have been a different outcome. I did everything asked, then when I asked for something you said to subpoena PPG. That is not a company that people want to purchase from.  I hope that the Revdex.com can come to a conclusion or put my letters online to help show others that PPG is a low quality product that's unable to live to standards expressed.
Regards,
[redacted]

+1

I AM very upset with your Revitalize product. I took all the time to power wash, sand and roll it on twice only to have it strip off TWICE! I bought over 11 gallons and now my deck again looks like crap. I want a complete refund for the product, for the 2 weekends that it took to get it ready and application, and for the products and time it is going to take to re-do the deck. I would like someone to contact me about this issue or I will look into other alternatives (Rustoleum class action). I see there are several reviews online that now say to stay away from this product so I am not the only one that this has happened to.

RE:

[redacted] purchased TWP total wood preservative in order to put a clear coat preservative on the deck, walkway, and handrails to our portable classrooms, (invoice #’s [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted]).

The decking was installed in 2014 and we waited over a year in order for the wood to cure out then pressure washed the deck before coating with your product.

In March 2016, I talked to you about the appearance and discoloration of the deck. You then had your Sales Representative Marc S[redacted] photograph the deck so you could see how the deck appears today. Both you and Marc agreed that the product had failed and that the appearance of the deck was unacceptable.

After waiting several weeks, you informed me that you were turning the issue over to Chris S[redacted], Sales Representative, to be resolved. Chris saw the deck and agreed to replace the TWP product or provide a product from any other product lines available to him.

Only replacing the product is not acceptable because:

1) the product has already failed to work

2) in order to get another product to adhere without issues the following will need to be done.

A) all surfaces must be pressure washed

B) all surfaces must have a commercial paint and varnish remover applied

C) all surfaces must be sanded with 100 grit sandpaper and then again with 120 grit sandpaper in order to remove the old TWP finish.

We feel that this work is not our responsibility but due to the original TWP product failing to perform like warranted. We are requesting to be reimbursed for the expense of the original TWP product and the expense of removing that product.

Please respond to this letter within 10 days of receipt or we will seek other remedies.

Thank you,

[redacted]

RE: [redacted]ID [redacted]Dear Ms. [redacted]:Thank you for the opportunity tor PPG to respond to the [redacted] complaint regarding the Gemini TWP® Total Wood Preservative product.According to information gathered by PPG’s representatives, the Church felt that application by a brush was taking too much time so its members applied the product with a “bug-sprayer”. Although the label does indicate a “sprayer” can be used, an airless sprayer was the appropriate piece of equipment that should have been used. In addition, the label indicates that after application of the final coat of product, the surface should be brushed or dry-rolled. This allows the product to penetrate into the wood and would also remove any excess material that remains on the wood surface. At PPG we take great pride in the quality of the products we sell and the service we provide our ultimate customer. PPG has offered to reimburse the Church $2,408.74, which is the purchase price of the product, following execution of a General Release.Very truly yours,Susan *. H[redacted] Claims Coordinator

Review: I used their product last fall to refinish an outdoor 16' x 16' deck; the product failed and started flaking off this spring. [redacted]'s advised me to contact PPG Technical Services, which I did. They asked me to send photos which I did. They drew up a settlement that would pay me $500, which I signed on May 19th and sent to them by email. But I never received the money and the person that I was working with won't return my phone calls or emails. I am very frustrated, to say the least.Desired Settlement: Payment of agreed upon $500.

Response:

Due to an error on PPG's part, Mr. [redacted]'s check was not issued. We apologize for this oversight. Technical Service has advised that all paperwork was submitted to PPG's accounting center last week and the check will be expedited for processing. If Mr. [redacted] does not receive the check by Wednesday, August 5 I would ask that he contact me directly for follow-up. My number is ###-###-####. Thank you.

We applied their exterior SRD deck stain to virgin kiln-dried cedar and after 6 months it is peeling off. They will not refund us even the money for the stain because we did not pre-treat with TSP, then bleach, then sand, as the label indicates, somewhat deceptively, because a normal person wouldn't think "cleaning" applied to new wood. Totally ridiculous. Coffee would probably work just as well after that lot of pre-treatment. We're talking about virgin dry wood! Hate them.

Review: I bought Pittsburgh Paints & Stains Revitalize Resurfacer at Menards. I used product in accordance to directions in July-September, 2014. Following the winter, the re-surface did not take and large amounts of paint were spread through out my yard. I have Pictures. I then contacted customer service. I was asked a reasonable amount of questions, all of which were answered. I was then asked to submit my receipts, which I did, through email for a full refund of the product only. I then contacted them several months later (through email) asking for a status. I re-submitted the receipts as asked. I have now been ignored. I am asking for a full refund of the product only and not the supplies used to apply said product.Desired Settlement: I am asking for a full refund of the product only and not the supplies used to apply said product.

Review: I purchased SICO paint (produced by PPG) and attempted to repaint my bedroom. The paint would not adhere to the walls, and formed an unsightly mixture of bare patches (with the previous SICO paint showing through) and raised lumps and dribbles of paint traveling down the wall. It took me two hours of scrubbing to remove the fresh paint to avoid it drying in this uneven formation.I contacted the retailer and PPG, completed an extensive "Interior Paint Questionnaire", submitted my receipts, and photos of the damage and have now been in a holding pattern (no response from PPG, unable to speak to a manager when I called) for over a week.Desired Settlement: I expect a full refund for the paint (total of $222.96). I would like an apology from PPG for their delay in resolving this issue. I would like to know which paint will be safe to use now, as my bedroom is in limbo until I can discover a remedy.

Response:

RE: [redacted]ID [redacted]Dear Ms. [redacted];Thank you for allowing PPG the opportunity to respond to Ms. [redacted] complaint regarding the SICO PURE Eggshell Product.According to information provided by Ms. [redacted], on or about November 11 she purchased and applied a tinted SICO PURE Eggshell Finish Product to a room in her home. Not satisfied with the color, she re-painted a few days later with the same product but a different tint. On November 15, 2015 she complained to PPG’s Technical Service Advice Center in Longueuil, Quebec that the product had not adhered to the walls. PPG’s investigation determined that this particular batch of paint was manufactured at PPG’s plant in Beauport, Quebec in March 2015 and there were 6,350 gallons of product produced. The plant tested a retained sample of that particular batch and determined that the product met all performance specifications. PPG has received no other complaints associated with this batch of paint. Based on an Adviser’s conversation with Ms. [redacted] it appears that she failed to prime repaired spots prior to painting. We believe that there could have been some contaminants on the wall preventing the paint to adhere or that the previous coat was not cured enough and this caused the new application to not perform as it definitely looked like a reaction to the new application. Ms. [redacted] was advised to scuff sand the surface, apply a primer and then apply a topcoat. At PPG we take great pride in the quality of our products and the service we provide our ultimate customer. PPG has offered to reimburse Ms. [redacted] $223.38(C), which is the purchase price of the product, and to provide her with one gallon of primer and two gallons of a topcoat of her choice upon execution of a General Release.Very truly yours,Susan *. Review: We had our family room painted in January, 2012. We purchased 3 gallons of Olympic paint, product code#[redacted] Interior Latex Flat 15 yr warranty. They advertise as "durable washable finish", but several times we have washed the walls and the paint came all the way off. They did offer to settle by giving us $200 to resolve the issue, but the issue also includes the $350 we paid to have the room painted which they are not offering to reimburse us for. They have refused to even come out to look at the situation with the walls we are experiencing. Now the walls will have to be completely washed down or possibly replaced before they can be repainted. This will be cost considerably more and should not be our responsibility due to the defect of their product. We have been advised by a professional painter that without a good foundation the walls cannot be repainted.Desired Settlement: We would like the walls repaired/replaced and repainted at no cost to us.

Review: We applied PPG's product, Olympic Rescue-It, to our deck in September 2013. The product was advertised to restore wood decking surfaces to create a waterproof, finely-textured, slip-resistant finish. We followed the instructions for application completely to cover approximately 150 square feet of our 350 square foot deck. The remaining portion of the deck is under roof, and the deck boards were not in need of restoration. However, we applied a thin coat of the product to those areas to maintain a consistent look. Within seven months of application of the product, we found that the product had begun cracking and peeling in the areas that are exposed to the weather. Due to the nature of the product (that it was intended to fill cracks), we have discovered that the product cannot be removed by sanding, as it may cause damage to any equipment used in that attempt. We cannot use harsh chemicals for removal, as our house is located adjacent to a pond, and any harsh chemical application would have environmental impact. Therefore, we would have to resort to hand scraping and sanding of the product for removal. We obtained a quote from a professional deck contractor for removal of the product, as we realized it was well beyond our scope and ability to remove the product ourselves. In the contractor's opinion, the cost for removal of the product would well exceed the cost of replacement of the horizontal surfaces to which the product was applied. The direct damage this product has caused to our deck will result in several thousand dollars in repair costs.Desired Settlement: We have made our wishes known to the company that we require either (1) financial settlement in the amount of our chosen contractor's quote for repair ($4,505.00), or (2) that PPG/Olympic hire a suitable contractor for repair/restoration of our deck to our satisfaction.

Review: I purchased Olympic Rescue deck paint and it was advertised to extend deck life by ten years. The paint peeled off in the first six months is sheets that were two to three foot long. The product does not appear to have been quality tested as I have read multiple complaints on the internet and same product. I have been in the paint business for 50 years and have never been as dissatisfied with a product as I am with this one. It will be a nighmare to strip my deck and will be expensive. If I had to do again I would not use this product and leave my deck the way it was--and it was in very good condition. I painted it as a preventative--what a joke. If I could do a class action law suit I definitely would but that seems impractical. The company says that the deck was not prepared properly and they are dead wrong. This product does not hold up to it advertised quality and is inferior to any paint I have ever used. I could have used regular enamel and got much more life. I have also used PPg automobile paints and they are quality. I think they should be held accountable for their bogus advertising, poor quality control, and the inferiority of the product itself.Desired Settlement: I would like the company to come and look at my deck and correct the problems. It will be costly and difficult for me as I am 73 years old and not as spry as I once was. Just replacing the product is not satisfactory as the deck needs strips and treated. The company should be held responsible for correcting the problems created by their inferior product and their dishonest advertising.

Review: I used the olympic stain, Rescue It, on my deck and it has started peeling off to the point where my deck is unusable (I have a one year old who would get big chunks of stain pulled off so we can't go out there at all). I called customer service last Monday (6/8) and after waiting for over 30 minutes spoke with Steve who told me just to email him pictures. I proceeded to do that but his mailbox was full so I had to call again the next morning, Tuesday 6/9. On Tuesday morning I first spoke with Herman who spoke with Steve and had him delete some emails so that my messages would go through. Since I had to wait on hold for over 30 minutes again, I asked Herman to tell Steve to respond to my email letting me know he received them or call me within the hour if he did not so that we could figure out the problem. Herman said that Steve said he would do that. I didn't receive a call or email the rest of the day so I called again the next morning and waited on hold for another 30 minutes. I was transferred to Steve who said that he did receive my emails and he would review them and get back to me by Thursday 6/11. I didn't hear from him at all on Thursday, Friday or the beginning of this week so I went ahead and called again tonight 6/18. This time, I waited for 45 minutes on hold to speak with Bob who said he wouldn't do anything except transfer me to Steve's voicemail. Steve has already proven that he doesn't return emails or phone messages so I said that that wasn't acceptable after waiting 45 minutes. Bob was very curt with me and unhelpful. Eventually he just transferred me to a different person's voicemail box. I feel like I am getting the runaround from the people at Olympic and nobody at their customer service will help me.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to call me back and pay for the repairs to my deck that are needed because of their product (the deck will need to be completely sanded down and restained in order to get all of the chipping stain off and to make it safe for my children to play out back).

Review: We bought over 300.00 dollars worth of glidden paint, and hired someone who is a licensed painter that we paid 2200, to paint our new home. I did not want to buy glidden paint in the first place because I have never heard of it before. As I said in the beginning we painted the whole house as well as put trim and our dcor up on the wall. Well with that said there is always some touch up painting that needs to be done. So with the same paint used to paint our walls was used to touch up the walls, but yet nothing matches and the touch ups look like st. I have never used such bad paint in my life. The painter even said he will never use this stuff again, it separates. With all this said not only did I waste money on a painter, but also on the paint. I am beyond frustrated and ready to take this even further than this if nothing comes about this.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back for the paint and painter since I have to hire someone again to come and repaint my walls.

Dear PPG:

On September 16, 2014, I purchased a 6 gallons of Revitalize and 2 gallons of PPG deck cleaner from [redacted]. The salesperson stated that this was the best stuff on the market and has never had any complaints. That was the main incentive for me to buy the Revitalize, the ads you were running on the TV also helped with my decision.

I cleaned the deck following the instructions, waited 2 weeks of dry weather and painted / rolled the Revitalize on my deck. After 4 days of drying I added a second coat per the instructions.

I noticed right after the snow melted I noticed a few patches where the paint seemed to bubble up. Now my entire deck is peeling and the paint is coming off. This is not right and need to know what PPG is doing about this to us unsuspecting consumers.

I followed the directions meticulously.

I expect your company to resolve this situation in one of two ways:

1. Provide a contractor to completely redo my deck to my satisfaction.

2. Tear the deck out and replace it.

I also expect you to discuss this matter with [redacted] and explain to them not to over-promise your product.

Please call me at ###-###-#### (cell) or ###-###-#### (home) within seven (7) business days to resolve this matter. If I do not hear from you by then, I’ll report this incident to the appropriate regulatory agencies.

Sincerely,

Review: In August of last year I purchased 2 gallons of Revitalize Resurfacer and 1 gal of the recommended cleaner,. I followed directions exactly and completed my deck. Review: Last May, I purchased Olympic Maximum deck stain in canyon brown. I typically have to stain my deck every two years, so I was willing to spend more money on this product since it had a four year guarantee. Well, not even a full year later, the stain is peeling off. I have never experienced this on any other brand of stain I have used, so I am very disappointed in the product. I am upset that I spent money on a product that didn't even come close to it's guarantee, but I am even more upset that I will have to take the time to stain again. I have stained my deck many times, so I did do the appropriate preparation. In addition to power washing it prior to, I even bought your Olympic deck cleaner. There was also no rain for days after the application. So, I do not believe I am at fault. I e-mailed you on 04/06/14 with a photo and promptly received a response from [redacted] asking numerous other questions. I answered all questions and scanned my receipt for the product I purchased. I have attempted to contact Ms. [redacted] multiple times after this and have never received a response nor have I received a refund.Desired Settlement: I have multiple other expenditures related to this project, such as the deck cleaner, brushes, power washing equipment/gasoline and also my time. I would at least like my money back for the stain which has a guarantee, which it did not meet. I am embarrassed by the state of my deck due to your poor product, but will not re-stain(with another brand) it until this is resolved in case additional photo/info is needed in this dispute.

Review: I BOUGHT THIS REVITALIZE PITTSBURGH PAINT TO DO MY DECK AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR YRS. I HAVE A FAIRLY LARGE DECK ALMOST 500 SQ FT. THE 1ST DAY I HAD FRIENDS OVER AND WE GOT THE 1ST LAYER ON. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER WHEN I KNEW IT WAS DRY..I FILLED IN ALL THE CRACKS AND LITTLE BY LITTLE DID THE SPINDLES AND THE REST OF THE DECK. WELL IT LOOKED REALLY NICE WHEN I WAS FINISHED, I WAS VERY PLEASED AT THE WAY IT LOOKED. WELL IN MARCH WHEN SOME OF THE SNOW WENT AWAY I LOOKED AT MY DECK AND I THOUGHT GEE IT LOOKS LIKE A BIG BLISTER ON MY DECK. WELL YES THAT IS WHAT IT WAS..I PICKED THE BLISTERED AND A WHOLE STRIP OF THE REVITALIZE CAME WITH IT. THE MORE SNOW THAT WENT AWAY THE MORE MY DECK CLEARED AND MY WHOLE DECK LOOKED LIKE THAT. I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE ALL MY HARD WORK WAS PEELING UP. SO I WENT TO [redacted] AND THEY GAVE ME A COMPLAINT FORM TO FILL OUT. I EMAILED IT TO THE GUY AND HE SAID DO U HAVE PICTURES...;I SAID YES I DO..I ALSO HAVE MY RECEIPTS. SO I HAD TO EMAIL HIM PICTURES ALONG WITH MY RECEIPTS AND HE EMAILED ME BACK AND SAID THEY WOULD GIVE ME $400 BACK TO COVER THE COST OF MY PAINT. I ASKED HIM WHO WAS GOING TO REPAIR MY DECK. HE SAID THAT PART ISNT COVERED..I SAID WELL MY DECK LOOKS LIKE [redacted] AND SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS.. I EMAILED HIM BACK AND SAID THA T $5000.00 WOULD BE MORE LIKE IT..HE SAID ALL HE COULD GIVE ME WAS$1040.00. I SAID THAT DONT HARDLY PAY FOR PAINT TO BE PUT BACK ON MUCH LESS TAKE THIS MESS OFF. AFTER I SPENT LOTS OF $$$$ TO GET THIS CRAP OFF, I RENTED A FLOOR SANDER, A PRESSURE WASHER SOME STUFF U PUT ON AND IT WAS SUPPOSED TO LIFT IT OFF..NO WAY...I SANDED THE WHOLE SUMMER WITH VERY LITTLE HELP..I TOLD HIM I HAD 189 HRS IN AND SOME FRIENDS HAD 40 HRS OR SO.. I ASKED FOR $5500.00 AND HE SAID I CAN ONLY OFFER $1040. Review: I had purchased Olympic stain for a deck that has never been stained. The deck is approximately 450 square feet not including all the spindles, railings, fence and extras that were stained. The stain started peeling and flaking up everywhere you can walk within 6 months. Under the tables, railings, spindles and fence the stain was not peeling. The stain does not hold up to usage or the warranty. I bought the better stain to avoid this. Upon doing extensive research on the product, I noticed a overwhelming number of people in my same situation. I also spoke with 2 other customers that complained about this same issue and realized this is not a isolated incident. I have around $4000 in my new deck just in materials that now looks terrible. My wood is now being unprotected from UV rays and the longer PPG takes to figure something out, the more damage and weathering my new take will take on. I have health conditions that eliminate me from sanding the deck and I explained that to them. They didn't seem to care and offered me cash different times just to keep me away. Its not enough money to fix what there stain did to my new deck. They tried different tactics and ways to prove I did something wrong and will have different people ask me the same questions I answered previously. Being I did everything correct apparently that they offered me the small settlement to just sit and watch my deck deteriorate. We had plans on selling the house since we are outgrowing our home and this is a eye soar. I emailed and called [redacted] about 5 times with no return calls or emails. She claimed to left me a message on my phone that I never received. There is now a new representative named [redacted] handling my case. They want to send someone to test the flakes and I agreed to let them so they can figure out whats causing it for future customers. My schedule coincides with there rep so I asked that we make arrangements to meet since my decks locked. I have yet to hear from them.Desired Settlement: I ask that Olympic fix what their defective product caused and put my deck back to the way it was, pay a company to do it, or I will find a company to do it. Either way is fine. My last offer was $750. It will cost around $2000 to do this job.

Dear Ms. [redacted]:

Thank you for forwarding Mr. [redacted]’s complaint to my attention. Mr. [redacted] first complained to PPG Industries, Inc.’s Technical Service in April 2014 at which time he told our representative that he had applied the Olympic® Maximum® Stain with a roller to his 280-square-foot deck. The representative asked him to provide photos and receipts. He provided that documentation in July and told the representative that he had actually sprayed the stain on his deck arid that it was 480-square-feet. Based on the amount of staint Mr. [redacted] had purchased, and reviewing the photos he sent in, it appears that he over-applied the product. A semitransparent stain is a single-coat system that is designed to penetrate into wood. Peeling would occur if there were an over-application of the product. The label also indicates that if spraying or rolling you should always back-brush for best results. According to Mr. [redacted], he did not back-brush.

PPG did offer to send, a representative to inspect the deck but unfortunately we were unable to coordinate dates and times with Mr. [redacted]’s schedule: I would be happy to schedule that inspection if Mr. [redacted] would like to contact me directly. However, we do not believe Mr. [redacted]’s complaint is due to a product failure but rather improper application of the stain. PPG does stand by its offer of $750.00 to settle his claim.

At PPG Industries, Inc. we take great pride in the quality of our products and the service we provide the ultimate customer. Thank you for the opportunity to investigate and comment on this complaint.

Very truly yours.[redacted]
