I’m truly in shock after receiving my eob today. I did the genetic testing for piece of mind and was told my insurance would cover it. To my surprise they billed my insurance 30k and said I’m responsible for over 19k. This is the most asinine charge I’ve ever seen. It was two vials of blood. How can this company get away with this! This company is committing fraud. How can we be told that at most it would $100 and then get a bill like this?

I was told by our health care provider that it would cost no more then 99.00 $ for testing. Over 4 months later we received a bill for over 2 grand and when I logged onto my health insurance provider they had billed over 20,000.00. We called to discuss the charges and they said there was nothing they could do. THIS IS RIDICULOUS, it cost more for testing then to have a baby?!?!

All of these reviews are 100% accurate. My OB’s office provided a pamphlet for this company stating that 9 out of 10 patients pay nothing or $185 or less. I just got a bill from progenity for $675.00 however upon looking at my EOB another claim was filed for $27,000. I had testing done in August 2019 and it is now June 2020.
I called the company and the rep said I needed to take it up with my insurance company as they were the one that denied the claim. DO NOT use this company for testing as they are absolutely ridiculous.

I am very upset with this company! My OB’s office provided us with a pamphlet for this company stating that 9 out of 10 patients pay nothing, and then the other 10% pay $200 or less! When I received an EOB from UHC for a $7,500 denied claim, I called the company and the local representative and was assured that it’s “the process” and that the final bill would be very little. Her exact words were “I’ve NEVER seen anyone pay over $1,000”. After 10 months, I got a bill in the mail today for $5,426.38. I am so frustrated after being assured it wouldn’t be anywhere NEAR that much!! I will he calling my OB’s office to warn them of the fraudulent brochures they’re giving to patients! I would’ve NEVER gotten testing done if I had any idea it would be SO unbelievably expensive! I was prepared for $200-$1000, so to say I’m floored would be an understatement. I’ve warned all of my pregnant friends to not get testing done with Progenity!

I had testing done late October 2019. Prior to getting the test done, I called to ask what the costs would be. This was advised by my OBGYN. I was assured that it would be $99 or less. I just received a bill for $7,712. I will absolutely be taking legal action. This was a simple blood test. A blood test. I’m not paying anywhere near that for a blood test. This is a disgusting company. Do not use them even if it’s through your OBGYN. I trusted both and clearly that was a mistake.

Not only was 7 months ago- and billed so late. But my baby is already born and the actual labor and delivery stay cost less than a blood test!!!!

Theresa assured me I owe $0 now so I am very relieved and pleased as long as this remains. Thank you all.

Similar to many other complaints here; our provider assured us that our NIPT test would cost us out of pocket only $100-200 max. After taking the test, Progenity billed our insurance company $10K, and they paid out $9K right away. I called Progenity about the remaining $1000 and was told they would likely not issue a bill at all, but if they did, the patient responsibility would be a max of $200 (same as our provider told us).
Fully 7+ months later, we received a bill in the mail for $1000. A call to Progenity revealed they want us to share detailed finances to honor what we were told by our provider and by phone- this is incredibly unfair and feels like a scam. Please make this right.

We were told we would not pay more than $100 after insurance. We got billed for $1800 and they would not work with us! Do not use this company for ANY testing. It is a complete rip off and scam!

Complete fraud of a company. I had a genetic screen done in June of 2019. I called progenity multiple times as well as the rep associated with the doctors office and asked why my out of pocked cost would be. I was assured multiple times it would be no more that $99 if insurance didn't cover it. In August of 2019 I noticed they tried to bill my insurance $13,000 for the test. I again reached out to progenity and the rep and they said not to worry, I still won't not have to pay more than $99. Today, March 23, 2020 NEARLY 1 YEAR LATER, I get a bill in the mail from them for $728. I called progenity and the extremely rude rep on the phone said that haven't honored the $99 price since 2017 - LIES because I called you in 2019 multiple times and they repeated that $99 was the most I would have to pay. They are doing some shady business and need to be looked into for sure. DO NOT GO WITH THEM FOR ANY TESTING.

So I'm reading everyone's getting billed an outrageous amount of money for their progenity test that should've been covered by insurance an I'm just sitting here like "great!" Bc I went in and did a progenity test that my obgyns office offered and I went to the hospital to have blood taken, I get a call two weeks later that one out of the three tubes of blood they took, had gone MISSING!? So I had to go back & have the test done again ,so now I'm expecting to get billed twice for a test that should've been covered, and who the heck kind of company "misplaces" a whole big tube of blood!??

Same experience as others have mentioned below. We are trying to conceive, very little family history, and since I am 37 years old my OBGYN recommended I get genetics testing. They provided my Progenity's information and I called them in office to ask the cost. Woman I spoke to advised even if not covered the max out of pocket would be $200. I just received an insurance form denying a claim filed for $7,345.68. This is a very deceptive company. I have read so many reviews on Revdex.com and yelp. Sounds like this business is definitely involved in some fraudulent practices. I will also be seeking legal counsel on this scam of a business. I do not have that kind of money and would have NEVER agreed to this testing for this cost. I am very concerned and will not only be contacting Progenity but also contacting my OBGYN. They should not be doing business with Progenity. They need to be shut down.

I went to my doctor’s for well woman’s exam. My doctor told me I could qualify for genetics testing for cancer (Rescover test) if I met certain criteria. I did, due to the fact I have many relatives with a history of breast cancer. The only reason I agreed was because she told me I wouldn’t have to pay more than $200 out of pocket. This company billed my insurance nearly $20,000 ($19,743.83), but I was mailed a bill of over $1,000 ($1,039.70). This was a surprise to me, since I wasn’t expecting to pay more than $200. My doctor told me she even has hand outs from the company that state this. Shame on you, Progenity. This is causing a huge financial burden. And the peace of mind program would take out $200 AT MOST, which is not fair. I shouldn’t have to pay more than $200 as told.

I just received a Whopping 9k invoice. I was not told how much if at any this genetic testing would cost me. Something mist be wrong. They told me it would not be anything more than $200 at my doctors office

Like the others have stated. This is a very deceptive company. The OBGYN assured my wife that this is covered by the insurance and said that even if it's not covered the out of pocket would be no more than $200. We are now looking at a bill for $18,500. This kind of fraudulent practices should be unlawful and I will be seeking legal counsel on this scam of a business.

Hi Jack,
We are sorry to hear this happened. It sounds like you may have received and explanation of benefits or EOB from your health plan that shows a high dollar amount. Please keep in mind the EOB is not a bill, and the billed charge is not the amount we actually get paid from the health plan. Your responsibility is assigned by your health plan, and we'd like to help you understand what that amount is and review your financial assistance options. Our dedicated billing advocates will assist you with this. You can reach them at 1-469-687-9369

I was charged over $3000 for pregnancy genetic test, while I was told my my obgyn it would be covered by my plan!its a terrible and stressful situation and giving me so much anxiety during my pregnancy. how am I suppose to pay for over $3000?its causing me financial burden!why am I being penalized for a blood test where I do not have control of where the doctor sends the blood?if I was assured the test would be covered then why am I given this stress during my pregnancy to pay this large amount?is this a scam business Progenity inc is running?

They charge so much!! I thought there's no surprises but there is. My genetic test was back in June 2019 and I did not receive any bill so I thought all is good but now, just now, they called me and said I have to pay more than $6,000!!! I did not receive any bill or any explanation, they will just charge you BIG TIME or more like steal money from you while you're so innocent to care for your unborn child and now my newborn child but they will ruin everything!! How can a genetic test be so expensive!?!?! This is freaking ridiculous!!!

My wife had a genetic test done at her doctor's office. She was told by the staff that if the insurance doesn't cover it then it will be $99. Well after about 4 weeks we get an explanation of benefits stating that the insurance paid nothing. The charges added up to about $10,000. The doctor's office and my insurance said they can't do anything about it. That's when I looked up the company that performed the genetics test, Progenity, and starting reading all the customer reviews. I'm now contacting my State Fraud Investigations Dept. How can there be such a gap of $99 to $10,000. Others on here have stated higher amounts than me.

I am horrified that I agreed to have these tests done!!! I specifically asked my obgyn when offered the test if it would be covered by my insurance and she said yes. So I agreed to this optional blood test. Now I receive a statement from united healthcare saying progenity billed them well over $7,000 and that after plan discounts I owe them almost $6,000, of which a measly 1,744 was sent to me by UHC to pay them-leaving me to look forward to a bill from them for what, over $4,000???!!!!! We never would’ve agreed to this, I don’t know what kinda company this is, misleading for sure and ruining what should be such a happy time for us. Good luck to them anyways, cuz they’re about to be st out of luck collecting that from me, it’s more than my current savings balance and I don’t take lightly to paying big $$ I was promised I wouldn’t have to.

I only chose one start because it won't let me choose none. The whole company seems like a scam to me. I've called them to ask for a balance and they give me different amounts and different stories each time. It's like they don't even know what you owe and just try to keep sending claims to your insurance to get as much as they can. You'd think that if you used a service they would have an exact amount as to what is owed. I definitely will be telling everyone I know to never use this service for their testing if I hear of a friend needing the same tests done. I wish I'd have known and searched for a different lab to do the tests that my doctor wanted done.

Please refer to my prior complaint below on 11/28/19. After discussing the situation with my OBGYN, she called Progenity while we were waiting in her office and they agreed on doing the test again at no cost . I got my blood drawn again. Today I received a call from my doctor’s office stating that they had receive a letter from Progenity saying that their records showed the test was already done so they thrown the samples away!!. Now they are offering to send a Phlebotomist to my house or my job to re draw blood. This company is awful!!, how can they still in business? They better don’t try to charge us double. We are not sure we want to use them again.

Called in to pay a lab bill over the phone through Avero for my wife's account with our local GBYN. Representative double billed my card. Seven phone calls and a month later and they still have not reversed the charge.
