Review: I paid Rebar $18,413.48 in February. I was told that if I paid in full, I would receive a discount. So, I paid the full amount by check. On May [redacted] closed the venue and said that it was bankrupt, but he has not filed for bankruptcy nor has he refunded his customers.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back.

Review: [redacted] of reBar, [redacted], has stolen the deposit placed on our wedding to rent the venue and vanished. He will not return calls or e-mails. I as well as many others are in a similar situation. I would like to receive my money back. Currently, he has made of with just above $25,000 of my money. I would like assisted action as the police will not consider the act criminal.Desired Settlement: Refund.

Review: Signed contracts to have a wedding at ReBar. Full payment was made ($17,926.90) and contracts were signed on 11/**/13. ReBar has closed with little more than a sign stating that they are bankrupt and closed and [redacted] is nowhere to be found.Desired Settlement: I would like my payment refunded in full ($17,926.90).

Review: My fiance and I booked our wedding at reBar and paid with a cashier's check upon execution of the Contract. This was just short of $14,000. Our wedding was contracted for 10/**/14. The [redacted], on 5/*/14 abruptly closed the restaraunt, firing the staff via email, and ran with all of the money in the acounts. He has left 200 couples in a similar situation. We were frauded. He knowingly took our money while never intending to provide servicesDesired Settlement: If no money can be restituted for us- I want this man in jail for Grand Larsney.

Review: My fiancé [redacted] and I signed a contract and paid a total of $15,609.98 on 11/**/2013 for a wedding and reception to be held at reBar on 10/**/2014. On 05/**/2014 we discovered via an article on [redacted] that the [redacted] of reBar, [redacted], had closed the business with no notice to his clients, employees, or the building owner. We have been unable to get in contact with [redacted] via his personal cell phone and he has provided no communication via email, phone, or mail regarding the closure. We paid for our wedding in full, upfront because [redacted] offered a 5% discount. [redacted] has disappeared with the our full wedding fee along with the fees of 200+ additional weddings and private events schedule through 2015.Desired Settlement: The desired outcome is a refund of the $15,609.98 [redacted] took from us for future services in addition to this matter being referred to the appropriate authorities for possible criminal prosecution.

Review: [redacted], my fiancee, and I paid $19,148.96 to ReBar for our June [redacted], 2014 wedding. We paid that amount for their full package: 7 passed apps, three entree buffet, seasonal salad, and two veggie sides, 4 hour open bar with well liquor/beer/wine, cupcakes or $300 credit towards a cake, $300 flower credit, linen napkins, votive candles, DJ, and all taxes/gratuity/plating/cutting/stemware/flatware/ and av system included.

On Friday, May *, the [redacted] stole funds and closed ReBar, putting hundreds of people out of work and and stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in wedding deposits. The contract we signed with ReBar indicated that we would be refunded if ReBar was unable to fulfill their end of the agreement.Desired Settlement: I would like the [redacted] to refund deposits in full.

Review: My wedding is supposed to be at reBar, on August [redacted], 2014. As of May [redacted], 2014, the [redacted] of reBar, [redacted] has abruptly closed the venue, citing bankruptcy and is no where to be found. He took all the money that reBar had in its bank account, and is now on the lam. We paid reBar a total of $18,380. Our wedding will not go on and all of our money is now gone. I want my money back. Or I want my wedding back.Desired Settlement: I would like for [redacted] to be found, first and foremost. And I would like to get my hard earned money back. It took my fiance and I 2 years to save for our wedding. Now it's all gone. Thank you.

Review: reBar and [redacted] closed business while taking over $18,000 in deposits for a wedding ceremony to take place on June ** of this year. The doors to the establishment are closed, website and phone numbers no longer working. Many brides and grooms affected.Desired Settlement: We would certainly want all our money back and the cost of having to book a new venue for our wedding. Also, he should be held accountable and prosecuted for fraudulent business practice.

Review: My Fiancee and I put down about $12,000 for our wedding to be held at ReBar. The restaurant abruptly closed on Friday, May [redacted] and the [redacted] has gone missing. We have received no information and no refund and we are now left scrambling to find a new venue. My understanding is that there are now hundreds of couples in a similar situation.Desired Settlement: We would like our deposit back as services were not rendered.

Review: My family put down a deposit on 2/**/14 for a wedding on 5/*/15, and made subsequent monthly payments. On 5/*/14 [redacted] closed the venue and didn't return our calls or emails, and disappeared with our money. This is breach of contract and theft.Desired Settlement: Refund of money and prosecution for grand larceny.

Review: My fiance and I had planned a wedding at reBar on august **, 2014. On Friday May *, 2014 [redacted] abruptly closed reBar and stole all of the $$ paid by clients. My fiance and I had $15k paid to reBar and need to recover these funds.

We have not been able to contact [redacted] and the phone/email/Desired Settlement: We'd like to get our deposit money back as there are few other options available to us

Review: Pursuant to an amended Event Rental and Catering Contract entered in December 2013, reBar collected over $18,000 from me for the hosting of a wedding in May 2015 (paid by check). On May *, 2014, the owner of reBar, [redacted] locked up reBar and posted a sign that it was closed and bankrupt (no filings have been made in the Eastern District of New York Bankruptcy Court). [redacted] has not been located and it is alleged that he withdrew all of the funds from reBar's account, including wedding deposits like mine, before leaving (see [redacted]).Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the amount already paid, and liquidated damages pursuant to the "Rebooking Clause" in my contract ($7,500).

Review: I signed a contract in July 2013 to hold my wedding at Rebar. I found out in May 2014 that this venue is now closed. I would like my money back as they will not render services in the contract and I pre-paid everything in full- 21K.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund

Review: On 4/**/14, my fiance and I paid reBar [redacted], $19,481.74 (personal check, all 1 payment, posted 4/**/14) for our 11/**/14 wedding. On 5/*/14, [redacted] e-mailed his employees and put a sign on the door to reBar saying reBar is bankrupt (no known bankruptcy filings). [redacted] has not responded to phone calls, text messages, or e-mails. [redacted] ran off with our money, as well as that of approximately 100-200 others'. Additionally, he did not pay his employees, and owes them wages. See, Gothamist article (one of many), from 5/**/14: Yesterday, longtime DUMBO gastropub and indie screening room reBar abruptly closed amid claims of bankruptcy. [redacted] put up signs at the restaurant sometime early Friday morning, and sent [redacted] a brief email reading in full: "reBar is bankrupt and closed. Please dispose of your keys and do not enter the premises. Please forward to any staff not included." Over 200 couples who had weddings and events booked at reBar through 2016 were devastated by the shocking news, with many only learning about it after reading our coverage yesterday. But former reBar employees and many local businesses have stepped up to try to help those couples salvage their weddings. It's important that we emphasize here that the employees of reBar were screwed along with the couples: we've spoken to at least 10 employees over the last 24 hours, none of whom had any idea that this was coming. Yesterday was supposed to be payday, so none of the employees have been paid in at least two weeks—and in the case of 36-year-old [redacted], it was closer to three weeks without pay. ([redacted]Desired Settlement: $19,481.74 with interest; criminal and civil liability.

Review: We've booked a wedding with reBar for our wedding on 9/**/14. The establishment has suddenly closed, citing bankruptcy. We have a signed contract, for services totaling $12,225.21. We've paid $6,900.52. There has been no contact from management. No refund. Our funds are unable to be credited back from our bank. We just want our money back.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a refund as soon as possible in attempts to have funds so we can reschedule our wedding.

Review: I was suppose to have my wedding on November *, 2014 at reBar. I was notified Friday that the owner of this establishment, [redacted], abruptly closed the venue, leaving clients, vendors and employees in the lurch. He has ran off with all our money. I don't know what actions your office can take, but I want to make sure that whatever can be done will be done.Desired Settlement: My money back and that man in jail.

Review: My fiancee [redacted] and I contracted with reBar to host our wedding on Sunday, June [redacted]. We paid in full, in advance, $16,403.56, for services to include access to venue, food, open bar, service staff, flowers and other decor, DJ, etc. On Friday May [redacted], reBar abruptly closed, and it appears [redacted] has disappeared along with our money.Desired Settlement: Refund of all charges and compensation for time/expense of finding an alternate venue

Review: I have paid in full $16500 for a wedding to be held at reBar in December of this year. On Friday, the establishment abruptly closed and the [redacted] has disappeared with my money as well as all the money people had given him to get married there throughout next year.Desired Settlement: I would like my money back.

Review: Rebar abruptly closed before honoring the contractual agreement of providing services for a wedding July **, 2014. [redacted] has gone missing with all of the business' funds. When I contacted the remaining employees they were not sure how any of the weddings would be refunded.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund and alternative venue for my wedding reception. [redacted] not the employees should settle all accounts immediately.

Review: Hello,

My Fiance & I have an August [redacted], 2014 wedding planned at Rebar and a contract with [redacted] the [redacted]. We just found out today that he has skipped town on his employees and business. He posted a sign on the establishment door saying "Rebar is closed and bankrupt. Do not enter"

We have already paid [redacted] $15,000 in deposits and can not get in touch with anyone from the organization. Phones have been shut off, emails have gone unanswered, and the website has been taken down. We are at a complete loss at the next step.Desired Settlement: WE would like the entire amount of $15,000 back to us. We now need to plan an entire new wedding and that was our whole nest egg.
