Review: This site gives a 14 day trial period for $1.95, as long as you cancel within the 14 day period they are not supposed to charge your credit card and cancel your subscription. I tried the site, it wasn't great, I canceled on the 14th day and they still charged my card $40 their terrible service. I contacted them and asked for a refund, they flatly denied it. They use misguiding language about their trial period and clearly are all about getting their $40Desired Settlement: I canceled on the 14th day, they charged my card anyway. I want my money back.

Hello,

When the customer subscribed to our Trial subscription, He/She accepted our terms of agreement which stated that they would be receiving our subscription services and that the Trial would auto-renew into a Monthly subscription on a specific date. Our services are not a one time purchase, but an ongoing subscription. They had the option to cancel at any time during the 14 day trial period to prevent the auto-renewal and in order to avoid future charges.

We also explain our policy in international charges. Please see all files attached.

The cancellation process is very simple: Log in > My Account >> Plan Information >>> Cancel

This will confirm that the account was successfully canceled. The customer will continue to have access to all of the features of our website until the next month at which time the access will be limited to the features of our Lite Account or Free Account.

To download a digital copy of the resume for free they have the option to choose the TEXT format which will not require them to make any payments. However, all other services require a payment as stated above and according to our Terms of Use.

No additional charges will be levied against their credit card as long as the account remains canceled. Should they reactivate the account, the credit card will be charged accordingly.

When the customer purchased the account we provided instructions on how to cancel, along with the specific date and time at which the billing cycle would take place. We informed that it needed to be canceled on a timely manner.

We recognize that the account is now cancelled, however, the cancellation came after the billing cycle had already occurred. The information regarding our Subscription Service is NOT in fine print and can be located in our Terms of Use, Plan Comparison, Sales Receipt, Plan Information and Alerts.

I am sorry to inform this, but as per our Terms of Use, the customer is responsible for the charges incurred. However, I highly recommend using the services that he/she is now entitled to under their current subscription.

Please let us know if you require any additional type of documentation to serve as evidence of the charges and our Terms of Use. We have a complete record of our correspondence in addition to time-stamped copies of when the customer agreed to our terms of service by registering in our website.

Sincerely,

Review: To whom it may concern,

I cancelled my subscription on the 17th July, 2015. On the 20th July 2015, two days after cancellation, I get another charge without my authorization. I know it's a small amount, but it's the principle. I would like them to STOP incurring unauthorized charges. Thank you in advance for your help. Have a great day

Review: After enrolling in a free trial of services for resume building, I canceled the subscription prior to the trial ending. Unbeknownst to me, I continued to be billed for these services. I never received confirmation of my cancellation in May 2015. Unfortunately, we did not realize that we were continuing to be billed until recently. Even though the company does not have a record of our cancellation, I am certain that I did cancel the subscription and I suspect there was a problem with the processing of the cancellation (Internet related?). I feel very strongly that resume genius should, at the very least, send a monthly notification to a subscriber's email to let them know when they are being billed. This would have alerted us that our credit card was being charged. I feel not doing this is a deceptive business practice. Instead, despite not having done any work on a resume or cover letter beyond the free trial period, we continued to be charged a monthly fee and were never notified of this. Considering that we had no online activity with the service beyond the trial and we were never notified of the monthly billing via email, which was provided in our account information, we request a full refund of all monthly charges that began in June 2015.Desired Settlement: Refund of $199.75

Review: I went online to make a resume. I decided on resumecompanion.com, I made the resume and then find out I have to pay for it. I thought there were two options, one for a subscription and one for a one time print out. I chose the 4.95 option for what I thought was a one time print out. Then two weeks later I see a charge on my bank statement for 34.95 plus a .28 international charge for resume.com. I call them and explain what happened and they tell me they will cancel the account but they will not give me my money back because it is against their policy. They say that I was informed of the subscription and that I had two weeks 24/7 to cancel on there website. I explain that I didn't even know that I had subscribed so why would I revisit the website. They say that is not their problem and that if I can prove that I didn't know it was a subscription then they can give me a refund. So apparently refunds are not against their policy afterall. I ask them to tell me how I was provided with the information about the subscription and they said that it was under the My Account tab on the website. I told them that reputable companies send emails and notifications, they do not hide information behind the My Account tab on the website. And the only way to get them proof is to sign back up and do another resume so the pay page comes back up. I told them I would not sign back up and then they said they were unable to help me. It is dishonest and underhanded business practice to hide information in the My Account tab. I visited a lot of websites that day trying to fill out a resume, it's very possible I was confused but it's not possible that I signed up for a subscription. I was just looking for a part time job and I needed a resume to upload for online job applications. Canceling the subscription but keeping the money is probably very lucrative for them, as well as dishonest and very poor customer service.Desired Settlement: I would like to get my money back and have the Revdex.com look into this company for poor business practices. They may have done this to a lot a people. Forcing people to pay for services they did not want or use.

Review: I went online to view the ResumeGenius site to get information on the services they provide. Their site is set -up where you would have to input your name, address, and email to view the services they provide; and after viewing their information, you could elect to do the 14-day trial for $1.95, or commit to the month monthly service. I only viewed the site, and did not commit to anything; however, the company was trying to debit my credit card. When I checked my email, I noticed that they sent me an email stating that my account is activated." I did not activate an account, so I called the company, and an associate named [redacted] (who refused to give his full name), stated that because I input in my information (name, address, email, phone#), I was activated. I am still trying to figure out how they got my bank information; especially, when I did not provide that information. I asked the agent to cancel my account, and he said he could not do that. I did not understand why he could not cancel the account, when he stated that I did not have an account and would not be charged. Lastly, I asked the agent for their address, and he gave me the wrong address, and I feel it was done intentionally. I went back on their website to cancel the account, and it was not canceled; instead, it said I had a free life subscription, which I do not want.Desired Settlement: I want this company to cancel the account they claim I have, and stop attempting to debit my credit card; especially when I never had an active account with them.

Hello,We have checked the customers account linked to the email [redacted] and from what we can see it is a Lite subscription, where no charges have been incurred because the customer did not give their credit card information. The reason why our customers receives an activation email is because our system allows the user to enter their email and password so they can save their work for later. We will delete the customer's account from our website and all information created will be deleted. Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Review: This site is a total rip off. Their sponsored ad on google says that you can create a resume in minutes with no credit card required. NOT TRUE. In order to download or use the resume you built you have to pay $1.95. They claim you can download a text version for free but that is not a usable resume as you created. You need a Word version to maintain formatting. Now they have your credit card info, somewhere buried in the text you are agreeing to pay $39.95 a month for their service. A total rip off amount as well as a hidden charge you do not realize you are signing up for. This was under the pretense of a download of the resume you created (supposedly for free). I called them after I saw the charge of 39.95 on my account and they cancelled further charges but refused to refund my $39.95. I'm assuming this is their business model. Scam everyone for a month (or until they notice the charge) and move on. Who would pay that every month?

This is a giant bait and switch campaign. Advertising free resume creation and then charging you to download a usable copy of the resume you created. Then you are signed up for a $39.95/month subscription service you never wanted.

I have called to no avail. I have emailed the "supervisor" I was supposed to complain to ([redacted]). I emailed three times with no response.Desired Settlement: I would like my debit card credited the $39.95 they have charged.

Review: Like many others who have fell into ResumeGenius.com's bait and switch scam, I opted for a $1.95 14-day full access, which misled me with the extremely low price and had me unknowingly pay a subsequent $39.99 for a service I did not authorize.

The tactic this company, RGO Technologies LLC used, presents false advertising to its customers via an intent to deceive by the founder, [redacted]. Mr. [redacted], as far as I know via my intensive research online that has been documented, is an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University, and founder of US-based ResumeGenius.com and ResumeCompanion.com.

When I attempted to resolve the issue with their so-called support team, my refund request was not only turned down, I was also threatened by the potential lowering of my credit score.

Another ironic part of this is their company’s terms of use/terms of conditions. As you will see on their terms of use page, their company is located in Delaware but their terms of use claim that we look to the State of Maryland's laws. In any case, if we look at Section 14-2902 of 2010 Maryland Code Commercial Law, “For the purpose of purchasing, selling, or disposing of property or a service, a person may not advertise a statement containing a representation of fact that the person knows, or by the exercise of reasonable care should know, to be untrue, deceptive, or misleading.”, we can see that RGO Technologies LLC may be liable for fraud via their false advertising with an intent to deceive.Desired Settlement: I need a refund of $39.99, an amount which was wrongfully charged on my credit card. Apart from that, I would like to see the company cease its ruthless use of a bait and switch tactic which only promotes false advertising.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. On March 25, 2015, I signed up for a free resume service from ResumeGenius.com by company RGO Technologies LLC only to find out approximately 30 minutes later after building my resume that the free service is not at all free. I later found out that I had to provide my credit card information for a $1.95 14-day pro trial in order to download the resume to have it look the way I expected from their home page promoting the “free resume service” where download as a PDF is feasible. With the need to print my customized resume as initially expected of the service, I had no choice but to pay the $1.95.Since the one-time use of the service, I later found out on April 11, 2015 that my credit card was charged $39.95 on April 8, 2015 by aforementioned provider. Without a sales receipt or notification from them on my end, I contacted their support team via email to express my dissatisfaction but my request for a refund was disapproved. So much for their assurance of a “Try us out for 14 days and if you aren’t satisfied, we’ll refund your money.” On the same day, I contacted my bank to dispute the charge and contacted the Revdex.com Delaware to lodge a complaint. When the business responded to my complaint to Revdex.com Delaware, they claimed that “When the customer subscribed to our Trial subscription, He/She accepted our terms of agreement which stated that they would be receiving our subscription services and that the Trial would auto-renew into a Monthly subscription on a specific date. Our services are not a one time purchase, but an ongoing subscription. They had the option to cancel at any time during the14 day trial period to prevent the auto-renewal and in order to avoid future charges.” It is unfortunate that the aforementioned provider does not stay true to its statement “Try us out for 14 days and if you aren’t satisfied, we’ll refund your money” present on their sign up page as I had literally used the service for less than a day. This incident has caused me enormous emotional distress. I am disappointed because I was duped into believing service provided is free only to be further deceived into a money-making scheme with false advertising where free refund policy applies only to the 14-day trial. For example, the “After 14 days, auto-renews $39.95 per month” present on the sign up page, has no indication of a no-refund policy. In addition, the lack of a no-refund policy on the terms of use page and order summary page is a misrepresentation of the service I was promoted with. There is clearly an absence of a no-refund policy published at the time of purchase and it would be unfair for me to have $39.95 deducted from my bank account for a service I have not use since the one-time access. To resolve the problem, I would appreciate if RGO Technologies LLC provides a refund of $39.95 for an unsolicited charge on my credit card. Enclosed are copies of my records documented for this issue.I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem, and will wait until 5 business days before seeking help from the Fraud and Consumer Protection Division in the State of Delaware and the Federal Trade Commission. Please contact me at the above address or by phone at [redacted] or by email at [redacted]

Review: I received a charge on my credit card of 39.95. I logged on to website and attempted to log into my account info. It required my username, password and confirmation of password. The website would not allow me to enter my confirmation of password which resulted in my inability to access my account info. I am unable to cancel my subscription to avoid the charges. I called and spoke to a representative who stated they could not refund my charge and that she would cancel my subscription would not help me to access my account. I requested to talk to a supervisor who I was told could only be accessed by email. The employee refused to give me her last name or supervisors last name. I then received a call back from the company. After again being told my money could not be refunded I was told the accounting department would give me a $24.00 courtesy refund if I gave them a verbal contract that I would not contact the Revdex.com. I declined the verbal contract. I was never given any information on how to access my account information or a refund.Desired Settlement: Refund of 39.95 and cancellation of my account.

Review: On July 3,2015 I was creating a resume for a friend and thought of using a template. I saw on Resume Genius you can use for $ 1.95.

I agreed to the 1 time charge of $1.95 . On July 18 2015 was a charge to my checking account for $39.95. I have not agreed to this charge. I contacted the Resume Genius company and spoke with [redacted] ,so he stated and I told him I did not agree to this. He said I will continue to be charged $39.95 monthly because I used there service and I have not cancelled. It was impossible to speak with this person since they talk in circles. I went to my bank and filed a complaint with them and they have an investigation in progress with no response. I have been given a provisional credit on my account for 90 days until investigation has been completed or Resume Genius returns my money they charged from my account without authorization. We have not heard from them as of today Au[redacted]t 26,2015.Desired Settlement: I want to be credited $39.95 to my checking account. I will pay the $1.95 I agreed to.

Review: As I have researched this company I have found many many complaints about the way they handle thier accounts. My wife was also charged 39.95 for a .95 cents resume. she was told the resume was .95. but then a few days later I see the .95 cents charge pluss and additional 39.95 where they signed her up for monthly . I called and talked with a phone tech to no avail. he stated they give no refunds. we were ripped off and the company refuses to do anything about it . below is the link with the many complaints about this company doing the same to many customers.

[redacted]Desired Settlement: if they refund our 39.95 I will withdraw complaint but will never do business with this comapny again.

Review: I entered into an agreement that was advertised as a free service, I entered my bank card information for what was to be a $1.95 charge for printing/downloading a resume. now I see that I am being charged $39.95 for an account. I tried to resolve the issue with the company but repeated calls to their number go to an number that automatically disconnects. so I then tried the live chat option and was told I should have gone to their "help" section to cancel my account. I never agreed to an account!!!!Desired Settlement: I want a refund of the $39.95 chsrge that I did not agree to and NO FURTHER charges from them!!!

Review: I was looking online to write a resume to find work . I saw this website: resumegenius.com. First the website says write your resume for free. U click in it and started to write by answering all the question that the website asked me to to. After the writing, the site asked me put in my credit card for a charged of only $1.95 for 14 days . So I thought it'd only $1.95 so why not. Thus I try and my resume pot up on the screen after imputing my credit card information. As time when by suddenly a $39.99 was charged yo my credit card without my authorization. I called the company and the person was very rude and angry at me when I told her I thought it only going to cost me $1.95 just to try out. If I know if us going to continue charging my credit card without my authorization. She says that if I didn't cancelled within 14 days the company will automatically charged me for $39.99. I told get that I didn't know it was doing that. Since I only use one time n didn't help me write my resume, I wanted a refund if the $39.99. The lady told me that she can cancelled my request at this time, which she did n will no longer charged me a future amount of $39.99 but unable to refund my $39.99 because she can't track how many times I have use the service. I told her I only use it ins time and it didn't help me. Thus she refused to refund my money that I didn't authorized. I told her that I am going to dispute the charged by contacting the Revdex.com. She threatens me that they gave collection agent all over the country n if I do, she will sent me to them for collection. Please help get my refund back that I did not authorized.Desired Settlement: I wanted my refund back. Also please tell the company stop making threat to people just because they are big, financially secure and do care about low class people like myself.

Review: Company misrepresented the services they offered. I searched online for "free resume builder." My online search directed me to "Resume Genius: Free Resume Builder / Resume Builder." I proceeded to site and clicked on "Write my Resume Now" button. I then selected template and entered all my information. At no time, does the site tell you there will be a charge. I save and continue and eventually attempt to "Proceed to Download." The next page that appears offers "14-Days Full Access for $1.95" or "Monthly Access for $7.95." The "14 Days full Access is preselected by default and there is a "continue" button at bottom of page. Once you select "Continue" you are required to "Complete Registration" before you are allowed to proceed. Despite being advertised as a "Free Resume Builder," the site would not allow me to proceed and download the resume I created. Being frustrated, I paid the $1.95 so that I could actually download all the info I had previously entered. When I finally downloaded the info, I was even more frustrated with myself for the time I wasted on the company's site. That was on Nov 3rd. The email confirmation that I was sent simply stated that I paid $1.95 for a 14 Day Trial Subscription. I never returned to the site or even thought about it until a $39.95 payment was posted to my account on Nov 18th. I contacted the company on Nov 24th to discuss how disappointed I was only to be told that I should have read everything before I agreed to the service. Now that I have reviewed all the information, I am extremely upset that this company is allowed to operate in this way. If this is not an example of "bait and switch" and deceitful advertising, then I am unsure as to what would qualify as such.Desired Settlement: While it would be nice to receive a refund, I would rather see to it that the company changes its deceptive practices. For example, when the company gave me the option between the $1.95 14-Days Full Access or the Monthly Access of $7.95, this appears to be the only place that "After 14 days, auto-renews $39.95 per month" is displayed. The auto-renews message never appeared on the confirmation email that was sent to me nor was I ever notified that the trial period was about to expire. I can only assume that the company's only source of income actually comes from deceiving others. The company's "Monthly Access" only costs $7.95 so why is it that they try to collect $1.95 in addition to the $39.95 from customers who don't even want the service within the first month? When I tried to research the company further, I stumbled upon numerous other consumers who had the the same experience. In other words, while $39.95 may be worth arguing about, I would rather see to it this company is not allowed to make its profits simply by deceiving people.

Review: RGO resumes is using unlawful legal practices when luring its customers to pay for their services. The company uses covert sales tactics against its customers by not clearly stating what they are signing up for. The company disguises its service to appear as if it is only charging you for one resume, but in reality it is not. According to Resume Genius, the company needs you to cancel the membership within 14 days or they continue charging your account. This information becomes of useful knowledge the problem becomes that the customer has to go through the difficulty of reading pages of the contract to see what they are signing up for. The company does state that you have 14 days of access for 1.95 and that if you are not pleased with the service within 14 days they will refund your money. These nicely put terms of agreement are made very visible for the customer to see. However, in order for the customer to know exactly what they are paying for they have to scroll through endless pages of contract and hidden fees that was never made visible to them. If the company has the intention of charging for subscription they should place this in their website, and make it visible for customers to see. If not, then customers are not agreeing to this service, with the exception of those who will read a contract for 20 minutes, to only find out that they are then hidden fees. This is not a just nor legal business practice. Customers deserve the right to know what they are paying for. The company has charged me twice, once in May and now in June, because of this and refuses to acknowledge what they are doing wrong. I had been ill during May and was unable to check my statement until now, and I was very disappointed with their service. I understand that they are a business, but I need to know exactly what I am paying for and it needs to be made visible to me when I am paying for it. This is deceptive and unregulated behavior. I am sure like myself, there are many others.Desired Settlement: Removing charges from account in May and June.

Response:

Hello,Your site is highly deceptive and difficult to navigate for customers regarding this terms of use agreement that you mentioned. The terms of use are almost hidden between pages of contract, and what your site appears to be offering is false advertising. If the intention of the company is to purchase a monthly subscription, this should be noted on the main webpage and not be hidden. Although the customer is provided the terms of agreement, as mentioned, a day to day customer does not expect for this company to be utilizing deception business advertising when the site solely advertises for its one use resume. Your company is engaged in bait and switch advertising, and claims to promote a different service than what is specified in the terms of use. There is no mutual understanding between customer and company. I did not agree to false advertising.
