Review: I purchased a puppy that was covered in lice from Head to toe. Not realizing it until we got home. I brought him to the vet that has never come across this situation before( not many have)and the vet put him on a med that was found out not to take care of lice. I spoke with the store. They said what ever you buy to take care of lice we will refund. I brought in all receipts and we agreed on a price of 185 dollars to cover all costs. When I received the check in the mail two weeks later it was for a different amount of 137 dollars. I purchased a 6 month supply of Frontline Plus because I spoke to several Vets and thats what they told me to do. Without telling me Shake a paw decided that they were only going to pay for 3 month supply. I was told by the vets that this situation has to be taken care of very aggressively for 6 months so that none of the nits on his body survive. I am still pulling nits off of him and we've had him for over a month now. I would like for then to honor what was agreed on at the store and reimburse me for the additional 50.00. I have other pets in the house to consider.Desired Settlement: I would like for Shake a Paw to reimburse me the 50 dollars that was agreed upon when I spoke with the [redacted] in the store.

Review: We purchased a puppy from Shake a Paw on 12/**/2015. We were told the puppy was from a reputable breeder and not from a puppy mill. We have since found out that the breeder's USDA NUMBER IS CANCELLED. The address we were given is not associated with the cancelled Usda #[redacted] THe breeder Michele K[redacted] now has a breeder Broker number and is actually related to and is next door to a business that is under violation of USDA regulations. Shake a Paw misrepresented the breeder information and address as well pedigree of the puppy.Desired Settlement: Full Refund of $3,801.88 and future cost of neutering due to retained [redacted] .

Response:

The puppy which we sold to the consumer on 12/**/15 is from a reputable breeder who is properly licensed with USDA with a clean inspection report and NO Violations. As of February **, 2016 her old license [redacted] was cancelled and a new USDA license was issued under number [redacted] effective the same day as the old license was cancelled. Her address of operations has changed effective Feb **, 2016 and this is most likely the reason for the change in license information. As of the date of sale which was 12/**/15, the old license and address were in effect for this breeder. Michelle K[redacted] has her own business and is not related to any other operation or business. Shake A Paw has NOT misrepresented anything to the consumer regarding breeder information, address or pedigree of this puppy.

I bought a goldendoodle puppy from Shake A Paw in [redacted] in April 2014. In hindsight, I should have known something was wrong with her. She was so mellow. I had asked over and over if she was okay, and they just said that it was her temperament and that she was cleared with their vet. Within 36 hours home, we were at the vet and she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia involving every lobe of each lung. We were told she needed to be admitted for at least a week for antibiotics, which turned out to be 10 days. After she was there for three days, the vet called saying that since her lungs had cleared a little, they could now hear her heart and she had a grade 4 heart murmur, a very severe murmur. A few days later, she had an echo and we were told that she needed heart surgery. Even with surgery, they didn't know her prognosis. The vet said that we shouldn't keep her. We have two young kids who had lost a dog the week before. The vet said it was illegal for Shake A Paw to sell us our dog. The murmur would have been audible by their vet and the pneumonia had to have developed while she was in their store. We brought her home at 7pm Friday night and by 8am Sunday morning we were at the vet. They sold us a gravely ill dog. The vet clearly communicated this to the store and to us. I did some research on the "breeder" they got our dog from. She is a big supporter of the owner of the largest puppy mill in [redacted]. It's no wonder they won't give you the breeder information until you buy the dog. Shake a paw was HORRIBLE throughout the entire experience. They fought every medical decision, because they were required to pay for her treatment. Thankfully I had done a little research and went to a vet that they recommend when you buy the dog. Since I went to one of their vets, her care was covered. However, they kicked and fought the entire week. They wouldn't acknowledge how sick she was despite speaking to the vet on many occasions. They were rude, insensitive, and argumentative. I don't have enough bad things to say about how this situation was handled. Please be very careful buying animals from this pet store.

Review: I purchased a puppy on Saturday from a man named [redacted] and shake a paw. He told me and my fiance that the vet was just there and that the puppy was just checked and that he is healthy. The next day I had to admit him to the hospital because he couldnt breathe at 1:00am. I apid over $2,000 for what I thought was a healthy puppy. My pups is now admitted for the next couple of days. I lost sleep, a day at work and emotional distress. I called the manager and all I got was an attuide from him. I need your help please, this is cruel and unfare. It was a deceptive transaction.Desired Settlement: I want a partial refund.

Sincerely,

Review: I called the store to inquire about prices of cockapoo and mini golden doo and was told the mini doodle was $1500 and the cockapoo was $1200. I went to the store with my daughter and she wanted the mini golden doodle. They told me that someone else wanted that puppy and I would have to pay $3,400 for it (less a 10% off coupon I had from their website). I bought the puppy because my daughter wanted it but I do not want to make more than the correct price. I have called the store since the purchase and asked for the price of a mini golden doodle and was told they can't give that information out over the phone. There is a scam going on in this store. In addition when I brought the puppy home it was sick. I took it to the vet and it had a parasite causing [redacted] loose stool. I paid $352.80 in vet bills and it is still sick and my daughter caught the parasite.Desired Settlement: I will pay the correct and fair price for the puppy which I believe is $1500. I also want a credit for the vet bills attributable to the parasite.

Business

Response:

We do not quote prices of our puppies over the telephone. There are far too many variables involved with the different puppies (ie. age, color, size etc..) and no two puppies are the same price. When pushed hard by customers for prices, at most, we may give a broad range but are clear to state that final prices of puppies are only given in the pet store. Too many times, instances like this (confusion over prices) occur and we try to avoid that by not giving prices over the telephone. Final prices are ONLY given at the store by a sales representative. It was the customers' decision to purchase this puppy when she was given the price at the pet store and to dispute that now, almost 2 months after purchase, is something we choose not to comment on.We are absolutely not running any type of scam and any claim made to this is preposterous. We also would NEVER pit one customer against another to drive up a price. We apologize if there was some miscommunication or confusion in this case but there is no way to know for sure what was said or not said.If there are veterinary bills related to the purchase of this puppy due to an illness, we are happy to have them reviewed by our store veterinarian and a refund will be promptly issued for our responsibility. As we have had no contact from the customer and have not seen these bills, we respectfully ask that they be forwarded to us for immediate review.

Review: We purchased a $2000 puppy from them as well as $600 worth of accessories. During the course of our purchase, my wife asked numerous times about diseases and whether they could affect our childrens health( 7 and 3 year old). The staff member [redacted] related that people and dogs have totally different health systems and therefore there were no worries. My wife was reassured that there was no problem. After purchasing the dog and taking her for her checkup with the vet a week later, we were informed that the dog has an [redacted] as well as [redacted] both of which are highly contagious to us and our children. Due to the health risks and $200 in vet bills we contacted shake a paw. They said no refunds and that sometimes puppies get sick and have [redacted]. To bad. We have now become aware that this is a common problem([redacted] and [redacted]) with puppies purchased from this establishment.Desired Settlement: If they were forthcoming with honest information, my wife would have never purchased this puppy. I feel they are responsible to make this situation right. My two sons are heartbroken over the matter. We could have avoided the whole situation if they were honest. We turned to them for expert advice, and were taken advantage of.Refund

Review: On July *, 2015, I financed a puppy through Shake a Paw pet store. On July * we contacted the pet store because we noticed the puppy was getting sick. The puppy was diagnosed with [redacted] and given antibiotics. July **, Coco was hospitalized with [redacted]. We contacted Shake a Paw to see what our options were and if we could return the puppy. We were told the least they could do was pay for all of coco's medical associated with this disease. Coco now has [redacted] and [redacted]. When we discovered she has roundworms, we took her back to the hospital where they found live adult roundworms. The vet told us there's only a 1% chance that our kids can get this but we should have our pediatrician check them to be on the safe side. That day we went to Shake a Paw and met with Kristen. We asked again to return the puppy and was told that they cannot take her back but they will arrange with the hospital for her to stay until she's 110% better. For 5 days, we kept calling the store and the hospital to see what's happening. They kept giving us the round around to finally tell us that they cannot do anything. Coco is still sick and cannot receive her vaccines so we are unable to train her, take her out or even play with her since we bought her. She has even started urinating and defecating in her crate then eating it.

We would like to return Coco and receive a full refund of what we have paid thus far.Desired Settlement: We would like to return Coco and receive a full refund of what we have paid thus far for the puppy and her supplies.

Review: I purchased a 2lb morkie puppy from this store in June. Following the lemon law on pet sales I took my puppy to the vet within 14 days of purchase. She was diagnosed with [redacted] and needed to be hospitalized. I called the manger [redacted] there before I signed off on the treatment and he said they are responsible to cover the veterinarian bill up to the purchase price of the dog. I paid $1700 for the dog and the bill on the low end would be around $1250. So after speaking with him the vet began treatment. I had to pay the bill first and then get reimbursed from Shake A Paw.

When the time came for them to send me a check for the doctor bill they deducted approximately $500 from the bill stating that hospitalization and oxygen treatment for the puppy was not necessary. I explained to them my rights under the lemon law and that they have no medical experience to determine what is medically necessary . The manager [redacted] was extremely rude, dishonest and refused to let me speak. When I originally contacted him regarding the unpaid bill he told me that they are not responsible for diagnosis, they only cover treatment. I guess thats not the case either because they denied payment for treatment for a sick little puppy they sold me and refused to follow the law and stand behind their puppies.Desired Settlement: I would like to have the remainder of the bill sent to me ASAP. If not I will be taking them to court for the money I am owed.

Sincerely,

Review: We purchased a Netherland Dwarf bunny that was only 4 weeks old. After about 10 days, she became so lithargic and unable to stand. Upon taking her to the Vet, we were told her organs were shutting down because she was too young to be taken from her mother. Bunnies should be at least 8 weeks before seperation. The bunny had to be euthanized. We went back to Shake a Paw and asked only for a store credit - not a refund & definitely did not want another bunny that clearly was too young. Their policy is to bring in the dead animal ( which we already buried the day before), and they will give you another animal. The [redacted] took the Vet bill we showed him and the receipt and went into the back for about 10 minutes. He came out saying he had called the Vet & was told the bunny had [redacted] when she was brought in. That was not true, since we never told the Vet that,we knew he was lying. His compative attitude continued & finally basically threw the paper work at us & told us to "have a nice day". His customer service was digusting, especially since he was dealing with the loss of a pet. Upon reading up on Shake a Paw, we were shocked at so many bad reviews. It seems this is their normal manner of doing business. Sell the animal at all costs, healthy, unhealthy, safe or not... and be done with it.Desired Settlement: Although the Vet cost us $170.00 and a first rate cage another $100.00, at the very least a store credit for the $70.00. Not to buy an animal of any kind, but maybe just dog food or doggie toy.

Sincerely,

Review: My husband and I went to shake a paw. We end up purchasing a Siberian husky 8 week old puppy. The puppy arrived March *, 2015 and we brought him March *, 2015. We brought the puppy home march * and he was doing okay. The next day I notice the puppy with diarrhea and not eating. call the store they said to just take him to the vet. I made the dog some ground beef he ate that. but still had diarrhea and then started to throw. The veterinarian earliest appointment is march **,2015. Shake a paw has sold us a sick dog because there is no reason for him to be so sick so early. Also shake a paw did not even monitor the husky for a week to see if he was fit for sell to the public. I am having so many health issues with this dog. He also should be a very active dog and is not active at all n just wants to sleep. And this morning I found him with his mouth foaming. Like seriously. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO PURCHASE A DOG FROM THEM. Another thing is that they have very nasty and rude employees working there. This is a very disgusting store and they should close.Desired Settlement: I Want a refund. I purchase the dog through my debit card which is consider cash. I Did not spend $2608.00 for a sick puppy with a lot of health issues so quickly. Also reading the reviews I am not the first to complaint. I am investing in a sick dog that I no longer want.

Review: I purchased a puppy and ny law states that if a vet says the puppy is unfit for sale, the pet store must issue a full refund. My puppy was sick and was deemed unfit for sale. The people at shake a paw were rude and told me I made the puppy sick (even though I had her less than 48 hours).Desired Settlement: Refund

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a Female Yorkshire Terrier from Shake A Paw in [redacted] on November [redacted]. After 3 days of having her home, her appetite decreased and she had an increasingly coarse cough. I brought her into [redacted] Hospital in [redacted] (November [redacted]) because they were recommended by Shake A Paw and are 24 hours. The vet gave us antibiotics and told us that she would test for parasites, worms, and parvo virus. The puppy was negative for parvo, however the next morning I was called and told that she was positive for parasites. I brought her into the hospital the same day (November [redacted]) and asked for her to stay in the hospital because she sounded terrible and I was afraid something worse was occurring. The vet complied and agreed that since the night prior, her cough sounded worse. The puppy was in the hospital for 10 days and discharged on November [redacted]. There was no concrete diagnosis made; however the vet said one more respiratory panel was pending. I was contacted on November [redacted] that the puppy was positive for 2 viruses. Microplasma and Herpes. During the 2 days of her being home, I noticed lethargy and decreased appetite once again. Although I was assured that lethargy would be common in small dogs, I was very worried that something else was wrong. I brought her back into the hospital that night of the [redacted]. Unfortunately, this morning I was contacted by the vet to learn that my puppy passed away with the diagnosis of Pneumonia. Although the pet store agreed to pay for her hospital bills, I am not impressed. For 3 weeks I incorporated my puppy into my family and home to provide a warm and loving environment. I am devastated that she passed away and for something like pneumonia. Shake A Paw falsely advertises their animals and in fact my puppy is to prove it. She was not well taken care of at Shake A Paw resulting in her death.Desired Settlement: I would like to seek out justice for my puppy. Although short-lived, I fell in love with her more than words can put together. I understand that Revdex.com cannot get involved with the inspection and I will handle that outside of this complaint. I feel for the other families that may have had this issue with this company. I would like a full refund for my puppy. I believe that is justified. Not only would I like a full refund for her, but I would like a full refund for the supplies they suggested to us for her. They only want to offer a store credit, however, I will no longer shop with their business and would like no further contact with them once this case has been resolved.

Response:

At this time, I have been contacted directly by Shake A Paw Puppies regarding complaint ID [redacted], however my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Shake A PAw returned the full refund for my puppy. However, the personal damages that occurred during my family and I time with the puppy is not resolved. My puppies illness was preventable and Shake A Paw should be liable for that.

Review: On 02/**/2016 I paid a deposit of $400.00 on a specific dog at the above Business and location. Approx. three days later, I received a phone call from a representative advising me that this dog was suffering an illness and could not be picked up as scheduled. I was told that I would have to wait for her to be medically treated or I could pick out another dog. At this time, I looked into the back round of this business. I discovered numerous complaints of animals that were purchased and became sick and even died. There are also numerous complaints of animal abuse at this puppy mill. As a result of being informed of the dog having an illness and the discovery of past maltreatment of animals, by this business, I requested a refund of the $400.00. I returned to this location and personally observed numerous instances of mistreatment and deplorable conditions. I am asking that all agencies that oversee the treatment of animals be properly notified.Desired Settlement: I am requesting a refund of $400.00. The business broke the agreement by not providing medical clearance of this dog. I will not bring home a sick animal to my home for fear of transmission to my children. It clearly states in the agreement that if an animal is not medically cleared, the agreement is null and void. I will also be notifying all proper agencies and filing formal complaints concerning this matter. I will also notify various media outlets in an attempt to expose this business.

Review: I purchased a puppy from Shake A Paw on November [redacted] 2013. On November [redacted] 2013 he was admitted into a 24hr animal hospital due to labored breathing. The puppy was immediately placed on oxygen and was given chest x-rays. he had a significant amount of fluid in his lungs. The vet has documents stating the dog was unfit for purchase. test results prove he had kennel cough which was from the store and it had onset [redacted]. In the contract it is written that the dog needs to go to their recommended vet within 14 days. we did not even have a healthy dog for 14 days. we took him to the nearest hospital to us because it was already 1130pm and they were 24hrs. the next morning we contacted shake a paw to see what we should do to have costs covered. no where in the contract does it state that the dog would have to be brought to their hospital in [redacted], they claimed it did. I never signed anything stating so. it was recommended, but not required. I tried to get a vet ambulance to transport the dog, as taking him off oxygen and transporting myself would have killed him. The vet ambulance was in [redacted] and did not cover this area. After an associate telling me "sometimes you do what you have to do" meaning pray the dog survives the 45minute trip to their recommended hospital, I felt the best hands he was in was the hospital with people who cared. After being in the hospital for over two weeks, the dog had lost a lot of weight due to the sickness and was released back home on November [redacted] with continued around the clock care from my husband and myself. On thanksgiving day he passed away from not being able to shake the horrific sickness. Shake A Paw was immediately contacted. We had called numerous times with no response back. Also sent a letter certified return receipt and still no answer. I called again and sent over medical papers and they wanted nothing to do with it and were of no help. They could careless that my poor puppy passed away, basically blaming me because its litter mate was still alive. I spent over $17,000 trying to save this poor dog and they don't even have the decency to call me or respond back. I am aware of the puppy lemon law but I am pushing for much more because they treated me like a complete piece of trash. - January [redacted] 2014 is when I FINALLY received a check covering only the price of the dog. I feel I am entitled to much more because they sold me a sick dog. I have documents stating he was sick at proof of purchase as per the vets assessment.Desired Settlement: Refund all the hospital bills for the puppy

Review: I purchased a puppy from Shake A Paw on 10/**/2014, a brindle french bulldog. I currently have two 8 year old dogs and 2 cats. The moment the puppy was brought into my home my one dog tried to attack it to the point where I had to confine the puppy to my bedroom. In Shake A Paws contract is says there are "No returns/exchanges" for a dog. I am not asking to give the dog back because he is sick or a nuisance but because I am afraid for its life and its unfair to put a new puppy, as well as my 2 senior dogs, through this. I called the business after only having the dog 15 hours. When I spoke to the [redacted], he was rude, condescending, and arrogant. He did not want to even listen to my problem, nor did he want to even give me any advice. He had an attitude the whole entire time then rudely hung up the phone. It was not like I had the puppy for months and months then wanted to give him back it is less then 24 hours. They, being a business where they sell a large amount of dogs, should be more concerned about their puppies safety rather then making money. All I am asking is for this puppy to be able to go to a home where he does not get constantly attacked and have to live in a separate room from the other animals because he is not welcome.Desired Settlement: I only put down $250 for the puppy at the time of purchase. I have no problem not receiving this money back as long as they are willing to take the puppy back so he can go to a good home.
