Sheridan Brothers Moving & Storage Reviews (56)

Good Day,

Please be advised that the only complaint Miss Miller ever mad was a handle on a dresser.  We did take the handle to either fix or replace it.  Seeing as the handle is quite older it did take us awhile to figure out the best plan of attack for it.  We did call Miss...

Miller back on two occasions to let her know we were working on it.  We did also update her each time she called.  The handle has been fixed and returned to Miss Miller so this complaint should be closed.
Thank you,
Sheridan Brothers Moving

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I appreciate
the business’s response but it is not acceptable.  There are several inaccuracies in the
business’s account of events.
First, I had
been out of the house picking up some necessary tools for the move.  When I returned, the movers said that the
grill was frozen to the ground.  I examined
the grill and noted that the top had already come loose from the base.  This was before any discussion of whether or
not to move it – the damage had been done while I was out of the house.  Granted, further damage was done when the
movers tried to lift it again after our discussion, and in the end I was the
one who lifted the grill by the base (as the movers should have done in the
first place!) and freed it from the mud.
My point is, the damage was done well before the movers told me they
didn’t want to move it.  I’ve mentioned
this to [redacted] over the phone a couple of times when I complained and he has
never denied it.
Regarding
the insurance, when it came time to sign paperwork (which, by the way, was only
presented to me at the completion of the move – no paperwork was presented to
me on arrival), [redacted] strongly discouraged me from getting the additional
insurance, saying it would cost hundreds of dollars and wouldn’t be worth the
money.  I felt intimidated in the
situation and declined the insurance, and signed the paperwork.  In hindsight, I should not have done this,
but I felt under duress.  I also made the
mistake of taking [redacted] at his word that the insurance would be too costly.
When I spoke
to [redacted] over the phone a couple of days later, I asked him again about the
additional insurance.  He informed me it
would have cost around $500 for the insurance.
I challenged him on this, stating that the website claims it’s $12.50
for a $2500 valuation.  I asked if the
cost is $12.50 per pound and he said yes.
Despite the business’s claim to the contrary, the correct information is
not ‘exactly what was explained to the client’ at any point, and in fact the
information I received flatly contradicts the correct information on the
website.
If it had
been properly explained to me that I could pay $12.50 for $2500 in insurance, I
would have signed off on it in a heartbeat, submitted a claim for the actual
value of the grill ($400) and this whole situation could have been
avoided.  Since this is the company’s
mistake, I expect them to correct it either by going through insurance to allow
me to claim the full value of the grill, or to compensate me directly.  This is not unreasonable given the
circumstances.
In regard to
my valuation of the services provided, that is my mistake and I apologize.  I acknowledge that $150 of the billed amount
was for the boxes I purchased to pack ahead of time, and that $441 is the
amount billed for services.  This does
not alter my request for compensation commensurate with the damage done.

Regards,
[redacted]

This response is in regards to the claim that [redacted] has made against Sheridan Brothers Moving.

1.)  Being in the industry for as long as we have been Mrs & Mrs. [redacted] are by far the most difficult clients to deal with.  We went out on 4 different...

occasions to re-evaluate the estimate for the move.  They kept going back and forth with what they were going to be moving versus what the new owners of their home were going to purchase.  They kept informing us of how difficult the buyers and sellers on either end were.  We moved both of those families and they were a dream to work with.  We moved one family locally and the other family out of state.  These moves were all made by our top staff.  It is funny to me the [redacted] move is the only one that had issues.

2.) The move took 14.75 hours not 16.  To move a household this size in the middle of December is AMAZING.  It did take 6 men the 14.75 hours along with 2 additional men 4 hours.  The bill ended up being $384 over the quoted price.  They refused to pay it.  We let that go to be done with them and the horrible way that they treated our staff.  All paperwork was signed and no damages were ever noted.  (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED BILL OF LADING)

3.)  We were asked to come out 2 days later to pick up empty boxes.  Again, there was ever a mention about any damages.

4.)  We were contacted on January 17th by Mr Jeary.  He had stated he had a few issues that took place and wanted us to come out and take a look.  This was 30 days after the move had taken place. Now all of a sudden there are numerous markings to the floor which were not done by our movers.  A few of them are along a wall which would of been impossible for a mover to make unless he dragged an entire bed across the floor.  I believe that tat Mr & Mrs [redacted] attempted to move a piece of furniture themselves and are blaming us for the gouges made in the process.  There is no possible way that any competent mover could of done this.

5.)  When Mr & Mrs [redacted] did there walk through for their new home it was a night time and the lighting is not great in the home.  Who is to say that they just did not miss some were and tear in the home.  Seeing it with furniture originally and then emptied in the dark you are subject to not seeing everything.  The old owners which we moved did say that there was some basic wear and tear like any home.

There is absolutely no way that we are going to pay $12,000 for damages that cannot even be proven to be our fault.  We are not willing to compromise on this.

We have followed up on Saturday 3/25 with the client and have set up a service call for tomorrow 3/29 at 5pm to evaluate her claims. Unsure why the extreme of contacting Revdex.com was needed since we are making the effort to take care of the situation but it will be settled one way or another.

You wrote on the check payment for stolen goods.  We did not steal your items!  You did not have access per your new landlord.  The one we have been in contact with during this process since he would not give either of us accesss to the space until your payment to him was made good.  The police were called because you failed to sign off on the bill of lading.  It truly had nothing to do with the payment.  The bill of lading is legitimate and is attached for Revdex.com to also place in the file.  We are not going to continue going tit for tat with you.  You placing blame on us is completely ridiculous.

Please be advised that when Sheridan Brothers Moving operates any services outside of NYS we operate under Stevens Worldwide Vanlines authority.  Any claims go through them.  Please note the following:1.)  Claim form was requested2.)  Claim form was sent to client.3.)  Claim...

form was submitted by client.4.)  Claim form was reviewed by Steven Worldwide Vanlines.  They are the ones who handle all claims since it is their authority.5.)  Claims department made their decision on how to handle the claims.6.)  The only thing that we felt liable for based on the claims was the shelf that was left behind.  That shelf was shipped and received to the client with tracking # 9114-9012-3080-3990.7.)  We have informed the client that the decision is in the hands of the vanline and all rebuttals need to be addressed to them directly.

Please be advised that the client called our office for the 1st time on Wednesday, March 5th.  She explained to our claims manager that she had 2 damages.  Those damages were 1 box full of pottery and 1 shelf had a gouge in it.  She was then informed that she had opted for the basic...

insurance, 30 cents per pound per article.  She was informed that we needed to inspect the items to offer her reimbursement.  She was told Mike would call her the following day to set up an appointment to come out and look at the items since he was out of the office that day.  She then called the following morning, 3/6, at 7:30 am.  She was informed that Mr. Sheridan was not in the office yet, to leave him a voice mail on his private voice mail and he would return her call. When Mr. Sheridan got into the office he did speak with the client.  She informed him she was going to file a small claims hearing, contact Revdex.com, and look into others avenues of slander.  Mr Sheridan stills et up an appointment to meet with her on Friday, 3/7 to take a look at her claims.  When he arrived on Friday, she was no where to be found and he was unable to look at anything.  We were willing to look into this situation further and offer her slightly more back in reimbursement but are no longer willing to do so.  We will giver her 30 cents on the pound of her dish pack and her shelf.

DISH PACK: 115 pounds X 30 cents per pound = $34.50

SHELF: 20 pounds X 30 cents per pound = $6.00

TOTAL: $40.50

I am also attaching her order for service and bill of lading for your review.
Thank you,
Sheridan Brothers Moving

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
First of all, the date and time they mention are not correct. I made several attempts at contacting them directly to resolve this matter. I have also made multiple statements to them about multiple pieces of furniture and 2 boxes being damaged. I was also present at the date and time of our appointment for them to assess the damage and they never showed up or made any attempt at contacting me as to why they did not make the appointment.
Based on the level and the number of items damaged I do not accept their offer. I paid for these services and I feel I did not get what I paid for. I do not appreciate them turning this around and trying to place the blame on me.
Regards,
[redacted]

The only truth to this complaint is the client did hire us to move a refridgerator.  As a matter of fact we were also set up for a second move after her floors were redone.  When called to confirm the appointment she had mentioned she was looking for her door stopper.  We informed her...

we did not have it and would be happy to get one for her.  She then went on a rant bad mouthing not only us but the company who is providing her floor service.  We informed her would look into her complaint and get back to her.  We asked each of the movers on the crew individually about the move.  They informed us that the door was badly worn and damaged to begin with.  It was already missing the weatherstripping.  The fridge never touched the door frame.  They knew even before getting it to the doorway it was not going to fit and went a different way.  We know how inexpensive weatherstripping is so we did offer to provide the strip for her.  When our repair person went out the client was extremely rude and combative.  We informed her we did not have to do what we were doing since the damge is preexisitng.  We were just trying to help her out.  He was not going to stand there and be treated so horribly so he told her to have a good day and left the home.  There is construction going on in the home so any damages could of been made by multiple people and she just decided to attempt to pin it on us.  We are not liable for this and do not feel it is our responsibility.

It is obvious from the photos that the marks were pre-existing.  The majority of the damge is the opposite side of the door where the fridge came out.  The fridge did not touch the door.  It is obvious that the fridge was well padded and the movers realized it would not fit and they stopped.  We believe that the damage was there ahead of time and we are being falsely being accused of damage that was not caused by us.  The pictures do not prove anything except the door is older and worn.  We would encourage a 3rd party to evaluate it and would welcome the Revdex.com to set that up.

Revdex.com spoke with the business today, and they advised that when Mike Sheridan came to your home at the agreed upon time to view the damages, you did not answer the door. When the consumer contacted us to report her claim, we were advised that one box of ceramics, pottery and one shelf were damaged.  We set up an appointment to view damage, and the consumer was not there or refused to the answer the door.  We are still willing to offer the $.30 per pound as agreed to in the contract.
As far as kitchen chairs, damaged couch, etc. this is the first we have heard of any of this and will offer nothing as there is still no proof that anything was damaged.

informed Mr [redacted] that the owner, [redacted] (myself) was out of town for work.  He did inform him when I returned he would fill me in and get back to him.  Mr [redacted] did call to follow up on the initial conversation and was informed I had just returned to town and would be filled in today.  In the meantime, the file for Mr [redacted] was pulled.  The insurance for Mr [redacted] is 30 cents per pound per article.  He was informed of this of his follow up call.  Mr [redacted] was also informed to fill out a police report.  He did not want to do this.  We did speak with our crew who performed the moving service and who have also been with is for close to 8 years now, no one opened any box on the move.  We find it odd that 1.)  A bag inside of a box inside of another box ended up missing2.)  he does not wnat to file a police report as we advised3.)  Is only asking for the reimbursement of the moving charges of $896.00We are not taking the accusations lightly.  We are not thieves and our name is being badgered with this claim.  We are happy to come up with a solution to this.  We are however not providing a full reimbursement when we did not take anything from Mr [redacted] to begin with.Thank you,[redacted]Sheridan Brothers Moving###-###-####

Dear Revdex.com:Their response is one I went through - they told me to contact their out of state representative at Stevens Worldwide.  I did and they are not responsive.  Since I have worked with the original company, the original company needs to chase up this matter.  I have contacted this separate organization several times and [redacted] is their representative and they do not respond whatsoever to the claims. So, it should be again, the original company with whom I purchased the insurance through and have them deal with their 3rd parties.  I have gone back and forth with respect to this. So for now I seek the original company to resolve the matter with their 3rd party and at the very least I want my full refund for the insurance paid of around $130 and lost time and effort totaling $250 in refund.  As far as their subcontractor please have the original company work with their contact at Steven's Worldwide.  [redacted] has been unresponsive and useless in these mattersHer contact details are below. [redacted]  ###-###-#### Ex. My husband and I had a terrible experience with Sheridan Brothers Moving. We hired them to move our 1 bedroom apartment into a 3 bedroom house (1.5 miles away). We have a lot books and records, which I told the company when I got the estimate (she even wrote "A lot of records" on the estimate). We have very little furniture. Everything was boxed, labeled and stacked in the center of the apartment when the movers arrived. They sent two movers and a very large truck (26 ft. I think?). One of the guys was very nice, the other one was rude, aggressive and threatening. He clearly did NOT want to finish the job - and he kept telling us there was no way they were going to get it all done.
After 1 hour he told us it was going to cost us "more than $1,000" and that we needed a third guy. He was angry and aggressively complaining about how much stuff we had. I began to feel that I couldn't trust this guy to handle our belongings, and I felt personally threatened by his aggressive behavior. He also told my husband that I had not been honest in the estimate. I started crying and called the company and begged them to send a manager to assess the situation. My husband asked me not to talk to the movers anymore because he was afraid they were going to purposefully damage our property (by 1:30 more than half of our belongings were on the truck). They sent a manager who told me that "elevator jobs take longer" (our elevator is large enough to hold a full size sofa and Queen size mattress, and we provided a key to hold the door). There were no stairs for them movers to climb to get out of the apartment, and only 2 steps into the house. The manager left after about half an hour.
The movers did a HORRIBLE job packing the truck, and left several items still in the apartment without filling the truck (including a rolled-up rug, and a broken down metal shelf which could EASILY have fit in the truck). They emptied the contents of the truck in our house and were "done" by 5 pm on the dot. So today I have to take a day off of work and rent a U Haul to finish the job that I paid Sheridan Movers $600 to complete.
This was by far the worst moving experience I have ever had. I have contacted Sheridan Movers to discuss this situation, and have not yet received a call back. I am actually afraid to post this message, because I still feel threatened by the angry mover who now knows where I live and what I own. But I hope that this message will help prevent anyone else from the traumatic experience I had with Sheridan Brothers Moving.

1.)  A bag inside of a box inside of another box ended up missing
2.)  he does not wnat to file a police report as we advised
3.)  Is only asking for the reimbursement of the moving charges of $896.00
We are not taking the accusations lightly.  We are not thieves and our name is being badgered with this claim.  We are happy to come up with a solution to this.  We are however not providing a full reimbursement when we did not take anything from Mr [redacted] to begin with.
