Sperian Energy Reviews (80)

I telephoned Ms. [redacted] yesterday and apologized for the bad experience she had with Sperian Energy.  I explained to her that the sales rep
#1f497d;">resentative who telephoned her was a new employee and unfortunately veered off of Sperian’s approved sales script.  Our outsourced telemarketing firm has given this sales representative a warning and he is going through retraining.  I will also be monitoring his performance for the next two weeks to ensure that he is adhering to the approved sales script.

Ms. [redacted] was pleased with the action that was being taken with this sales rep and also the fact that I had placed her telephone number on our internal DNC list.  She was happy to hear that she will no longer receive any telephone calls from Sperian Energy.

Please let me know if any additional information is needed or if this complaint can be closed.
Thank you,

This company called me and represented themselves as West Penn Power. Only when I pressed him asking if he was from West Penn Power did he admit he was from Sperian Energy. He immediately asked me to find a copy of my West Penn Power Bill, and then I knew it was a "Bait and Switch" tactic and told him to never call my house again. I am also on the National Do not call List, so this company is breaking the law. They are pushey and misrepresent themselves.

This is a response to complaint ID[redacted].  A response has been sent directly to the consumer confirming that his telephone number has been removed from all campaign lists, and added to our DNC lists for future...

activity.

Good afternoon,

This is a response to a complaint filed by Consumer ID,...

[redacted].
The consumer was contacted by one of our external call centers on 4/10/2015.
The call did not result in an actual sale and no enrollment actually took
place.  I spoke with the Consumer and
personally apologized for the experience she had with our company.

I have confirmed the Consumer's contact information has
been registered on the National Do Not Call List since, May 2004 and her phone
number should have never been included in the Sperian Energy campaign.  Effective immediately, Consumer ID, [redacted]
contact information has been completely removed from all dialer systems. I
provided my direct contact information to the consumer and told her she can
contact me directly if she receives any additional phone calls or if she has
any questions.  The consumer was satisfied
and thankful for my call.

Please advise if you need any additional information for
this complaint or if it can be closed.

Thank you,

This is in response to a complaint filed by Mr. [redacted] J
[redacted], Revdex.com Complaint ID # [redacted].   Mr.
[redacted]’s complaint is that the variable prices posted for Sperian Energy online
do not match the variable prices we were charging him on his monthly
invoice. ...

The rates that Sperian Energy
post online are the current sales prices for consumers interested in enrolling
with Sperian Energy.  When Mr. [redacted]
joined Sperian in April 2014, the variable price we were offering new customers
at that time was $0.0545/kWh.   He
received that price for 2 months and then continued to be served on a
month-to-month rollover variable rate.
Our month-to-month variable rate for existing customers is based on
market conditions and our actual cost of energy.
When Mr.  [redacted]
contacted our customer service department on 01/28/2015 to question the variable
rates, we offered him a 3-month fixed rate and 12-month fixed rate to allow him
budget certainty and knowing what his rates would be for future months.  He was not interested in locking in a fixed
rate and asked to be returned back to ComEd’s default rate.  We submitted the switch request and Mr. [redacted]
will drop with Sperian Energy on 2/23/2015.
Sperian Energy left a message for Mr. [redacted] today and
explained that there is no refund due on his account as he was invoiced the
same market based rates as all other customers in our existing portfolio that
have similar account attributes to his.

This is in response to a complaint filed by [redacted] Revdex.com Case ID [redacted].   I have personally contacted the customer and we have resolved the issue.   Per the request in the complaint, Sperian Energy has returned
the electric account back to the...

default utility.  There are not any fees or penalties as a result of this request.

Sperian Energy Scammed my wife. Called and said that they were a parent company of our previous energy supplier, IGS Energy. They promised a great rate and said they would send out a new customer packet. This was all by third party telemarketing, which they employ relentlessly. Since there has been no new customer kit, we can't execute our 3 day right of recission, which I want to do immediately. Will be contacting PECO and attempting again to contact Sperian to recind this contract.

More details. The telemarketer told my wife that their rate would include all fees, and compared their rate (Generation and Transmission) to the combined Generation & Transmission AND Distribution charges of our current arrangement. This was clearly a lie, as the Distribution charges from PECO will be incurred regardless of the energy supplier. Today, our new customer kit arrived. The information showed that we would be responsible for Distribution charges (of course) and that the rate was $0.0164 per kwh HIGHER! why am I not surprised. My wife called SPERIAN and PECO and was able to exercise our 3 day right of recission today. They had already contacted PECO and started the process of transitioning as our new supplier. Will be monitoring to make sure the action to keep us on IGS Energy works.

Buyer BEWARE! The telemarketers for Sperian in the Philadelphia area lie explicitly about the terms of the deal. DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Kohn, Swift & Graf, P.C., a nationwide law firm that handles class action cases, is investigating claims for a class action lawsuit against Sperian Energy for taking advantage of the deregulation of the retail electricity markets in many states by luring consumers into switching energy suppliers with false promises that they offer a market based variable rate for electricity. In fact, Sperian’s variable rates are substantially higher than those otherwise available in the energy market. If you or someone you know is/was a Sperian Energy customer on a variable rate plan for electricity, please contact us at [email protected] to discuss your claim. All consultations with our firm are free of charge.

What is being done about the complaints already submitted?

I had a woman come to my door talking about qualifying for lowering my electric bill she works for sperian energy. I fell for it and accepted now I'm reading all the reviews and realized I was scammed. And I can now cancel unless I pay $75 I don't think this is fair she told me I will still have Potomac Edison never said I was switching providers I would like to stay with my current provider (Potomac Edision) and I do not think I should have to pay $75 to cancel my services with sperian since I was under the impression I was staying with Potomac edison but just with a lower bill.

Sperian is by far the worst company I have ever worked with. They are always so busy you can not talk to a person. After 10 minutes. The just say that you have reached them after hours, and you can leave a message. I was paying 5 - 15 more/ month using them! Unbelievable. Finally, I moved so I no longer had to dump them to go back to ComEd. It is frustrating enough working, taking care of the family, I finally have time off to move and I still can not reach them. Definitely, the worse company I have ever dealt with!

Sperian energy came out to my house claiming that they worked with delmarva power and that they can get my bill lowered. I asked serveral questions that the sales person or the person that called from a number that you can not call back couldnt answer. I was told that if I had questions to call the customer service number that I called and they say the wait is longer then 10 mins so to have your spot held and a member of customer service will call you back which by the way was a lie I called way before 6 pm eastern time then when nobody called me back for 20 mins I called back and was told it was after hours which by the way it was not and to leave a message. Left a message and an email nobody got back to me so on the first day of trying to learn more abot the company I couldnt reach anybody even though the contract by the way they dont give u a copy of but I took my own pictures before sales person left said that customer service would be open until 6pm. Started doing my own research and stumbled on so many negative complaints all the while im trying to contact them. Been trying to contact them since yesterday have not been able to at all through phone or email. Just want to cancel this whatever it is before my bill becomes higher then it is I want my original carrier back asap. Not a good sign and not good customer service now I see why they say once you get the call you can not ask any question. They try to use it against you I do not want any parts to this company they have bad business and its only been hours so if your not able to cancel services because customer service is a dead end street how do you. Worse ever will not open he door for them again. Glad I recorded what they said just in case I have to take further action I am not getting stuck with this company.

These guys came to my house as part of the ongoing scam here in PA asking to see my account numbers and copies of my electric bill.

Review: I have received over 10 phone calls from Sperian Energy in the last week attempting to get me to switch my electric carrier. In the past 2 days, I received 7 phone calls. I have spoken to 3 customer services operators attempting to get them to remove my name and number and place me on a "Do Not Call List" but I am still being harassed by these service calls. The last rep told me it would take 24 hours to remove me from the list…Why wasn't this done 10 days ago?Desired Settlement: Verification that our contact information has been removed from Sperian's call lists.

Review: I have been being contacted by This company for over 2 years about how they can lower my energy bill, each time I politely replied with "i am happy with the price I am paying." they respond rudely for me to get my comed electric bill so we can lower your rates. I asked them every time to remove me from there calling list and they say they will. the very next day I get another phone call with the same issues. the agents are very rude and very offensive while "trying" to get me to switch my energy providers. I have many recorded conversations to prove this issue.Desired Settlement: I would like my Phone number removed from there calling list along with proof that I have been removed. I would also like a formal statement saying that will no longer contact me. Also if they do contact me what time of repercussions they will face.

Review: My wife and I have received several calls withing the past week try to get us to switch our Electric providers to Sperian Energy. Each time we said we were not interested and please put us on the no call list. Today my wife received a call was treated extremely rudely by the associate on the phone. The woman was very forceful and told her that she needed to get one of our utility bills. She again said she was not interested. The Woman got louder and my wife asked for her supervisor and she hung the phone up on my wife. I check my caller ID and called the number [redacted] and when I was connected I asked for a manager. [redacted] the Shift Supervisor got on the phone and I told him that he needs to talk to his people about their attitude and never to call my home again. My number is on the "No-Call" list and I'm wondering why they are still calling. I think they need to be fined or something for harassing older folks.Desired Settlement: I want something to be done in a way of a fine for calling numbers that are listed on the "No-Call" list.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Thank you for your response. My wife and I accept your apology and are satisfied with your solution. We still feel that a fine should still be imposed to make sure this doesn't happen again. It seems that more and more businesses are continuing to ignore the National Do Not Call registry.

Review: Sometime in February of 2013 I was apparently contacted by Sperian Energy Corp. by phone. I vaguely remember this. One of their managers called me on April 16th and said I agreed to a year contract with them to supply my electricity. I was totally unaware of this as I had not received a bill from them yet. He said I broke this contract when I went with [redacted] Energy in April and I would owe them $150. I was shocked as it was too late to change back to Sperian without a penalty from [redacted]. He knew this. Since I could not remember signing up with them I frantically looked for my my last bill and as I was looking for it and explaining to him that I thought I was still with Dominion Energy he abruptly hung up on me. I don't know who called, his telephone number or anything. I was scammed. To date I have not received any materials from Sperian. No phamplets about their company. Nothing about the contract I supposedly agreed to. Nothing about the rate they are charging me. Nothing. To date since I have switched to [redacted] I have received 3 mailings from them. It is $5 to cancel their services. People need to know that Sperian is a scam. You can get lower rates from other electric suppliers without contracts. Beware.Desired Settlement: I don't think Sperian should charge me anything for cancelling their service as they sent me nothing in writing to confirm their supposed contract and rates prior to the 7 day cancellation period and they did not contact me prior to the 7 day cancellation period with IGS.

Ms. [redacted],

After reviewing Ms. [redacted]’s complaint, I have concluded that Ms. [redacted] enrolled with Sperian Energy on 2/8/2013. She completed a third party verification recording (TPV) with one of our outsourced telemarketing firms. I telephoned Mrs. [redacted] on 5/3/2013 who told me that she did not remember enrolling with Sperian Energy. I asked her if she would like me to replay the TPV, however she declined. Ms. [redacted] stated that she wanted to stay with [redacted]. She also stated that she never received our Welcome Letter along with our Terms and Conditions. I verified her mailing address which we correctly had on file. I understand that without receiving the Welcome Kit we sent, she may have been unaware of the terms to her agreement. In this case we are waiving the early termination fee. Ms. [redacted]’s service with Sperian Energy ended on 5/9/2013.

Please let me know if any additional information is needed or if this complaint can be closed.

Review: I received a call from Sperian Energy Corp with a representative trying to get me to switch from Sparks Energy LLC as the provider of electric service via Commonwealth Edison. I was very clear in stating that I was NOT interested in switching, I would be staying with Sparks Energy, and I requested being removed from their contact list.

Today (2/23/15) I received notice from Commonwealth Edison that my service provider was being changed from Sparks to Sperian due to MY REQUEST. This is wrong, and has happened multiple times in my neighborhood. I'm upset as I did NOT authorize this, and that the Sperian's personnel ignored my response.Desired Settlement: I would like Sperian notified that this is NOT the proper way to run a business, and someone to let them know that they can not get away with this type of thing.

Good afternoon. This is a response to a complaint filed by Ms. [redacted]. I have reviewed the sales call, as well as the Third Party Verification call where Ms. [redacted] agreed to Sperian Energy's service. I will follow up directly with the consumer at the email address on the complaint and offer to play recordings for the customer. This customer did not request to stay with Sparks Energy, and confirmed that she didn't want to be with them any longer. I will provide the customer my direct contact information. Ms. [redacted]'s enrollment has been rescinded and her account has been returned back to the previous supplier per request.

Review: My husband answered the phone when Sperian Energy Sales called our home on March 5th, 2015 . I handle all of our bills and our electric bill is in MY name. I received a letter from Met ** and First Energy on March 13th stating that our account with First Energy has been cancelled because we enrolled with another electric supplier. I called Sperian Energy to find out how they could change something that was in MY NAME. The response I got was that my husband obviously had the cr as well as the mailing address and because he is my spouse he could change the supplier. I spoke with my husband regarding the customer # ( because I have all the paperwork and bills with me at my office NOT AT HOME) I asked him where he got the customer #. His response was, "The sales guy from Sperian READ OUR cr to me and I wrote it down and then he told me to repeat the number when the recording came on." Of course the part where the sales guy GAVE the customer # to my husband is NOT on tape ! You call this ETHICAL?

The recording that Sperian played back was indeed my husband HOWEVER the customer # was NOT something he had access to - Sperian gave it to him beforehand. Upon speaking to my previous provider where I was locked in till December 2016, they can not get me back on board with them and I was very happy with First Energy!

I am now STUCK with Sperian for 3 months and then have to hunt for a new electric supplier after the 3 month term with them ( They will charge $48.00 if cancelling before the 3 month term) .

The woman I spoke to @ Sperian also stated that it was unfortunate that First Energy was going out of business. I've heard nothing of the sort, but I told her I was going to record her saying it which I DID! My main issue is the fact that my supplier was changed by a Sperian Representative GIVING the customer # to my husband and affecting my contract with First Energy! Tactics like that are show me their capacity of deceit. Absolutely furious!Desired Settlement: What resolution can come from this mess? I am no longer with First Energy (who I wanted to remain with for our supplier), they are no longer accepting new customers.

Sperian will claim its all on recording and they will claim they would NEVER give the costumer number out ( I know the games). I want people to be made aware what kind of sales tactics this company uses to get business.

My ideal settlement would be "Get me back with First Energy !"

Review: I was contacted by someone from Sperian Energy Co. They implied that they represented my current electric supplier. They said that I had received a letter from my electric company a few months ago that required me to respond. He said since many people failed to respond it was not his responsibility to follow up and then he started just going into confirming my address. I stopped him and questioned him as to exactly what his company did. That's when he admitted they are an alternative energy supplier. Pretty sneaky. A lot of people would have just started answering his questions.Desired Settlement: Don't contact me again and stop the deceptive phone calls. If you are a good company you shouldn't have to deceive people.
