We have confirmed today that the background check is complete.  Sterling uses different vendors and courts to complete our background checks and some have extended turnaround times.

I have contacted the applicant and confirmed that he has received a copy of his background check from the employer.  It appears that the applicant was under the impression that a report would automatically mailed to him.  That is not the case, the applicant has the ability to log into the...

portal at any time and print out a copy of his background check.  He also appears to have contacted Sterling to request a copy of his background check.  To prevent identity theft we must verify an applicant's identity prior to mailing out this information and require the applicant to send in their drivers license or other government identification.

provided confirmation of the education history.  Should they respond to SterlingBackcheck, that information will be added to the background check report.  We regret any inconvenience, but note that every effort has been made with the data holder to verify this person's education history.  The data holder has not responded unfortunately.

Any decisions regarding employment or any other permissible purpose under the FCRA is at the sole discretion of the authorized requesting party. SterlingBackcheck does not participate in any decision making process. The complainant also indicated that she has requested that her information be deleted from our system. This company previously had a contract that auto-renewed and had an annual fee.  We were not aware that the business was purchased.  We will close the account and the fee will be written off.

The typical turnaround time for background checks can be from two days to two weeks, depending on the services that we are performing.  With employment verifications we are depending on the applicant's employers to respond to our phone calls and emails.  With this particular background...

check, we did have to contact the applicant multiple times for permission to contact the former employers or to obtain various forms to complete the work.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# 11486260, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I never said that the Sterling Rep said the reports would be mailed out automatically. I said that is how the report is ordered from the client and always has been. The client has provided a copy of the report since Sterling has refused saying they NEVER give reports to the subject of the report. The Sterling Rep now says you can call them to request a copy but Sterling does not return calls or emails. The Rep says they require the subject to send over unsecured email a drivers license with a request for a copy of the report which the subject has already paid for in full and never received. This exposes the subject to possible idenifty theft and would be foolish.  The Rep now says the subject can  log in and print out a copy of the report. I have no log in information and never have been given any log in information to print a report. Further, if a subject could simply log in and print the report then this is quite different than his earlier statement about needing to email a drivers license over unsecured email first. This company's story keeps changing.

The applicant contacted Sterling directly to file a dispute on their background check on 8/**.  On 8/** we finished investigating the dispute and amended the background check.  The applicant and their potential employer will receive an updated copy of the background check.  Sterling...

Infosystems is a consumer reporting agency regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and state analogues. The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows a consumer reporting agency 30 days to investigate disputes.  Sterling attempts to resolve these as soon as possible, this issue was resolved well within the 30 day time period.

We have contacted the applicant and confirmed that the credit card was charged for the correct amount.  We have also initiated a new background check at her request.

Case [redacted]-   [redacted] contacted the Revdex.com on 5/**/15 to file a complaint regarding an incomplete education verification on her background check report.   Resolution:  As indicated in our response on 5/**/15, the educational institution for which the education verification was requested, outsources their verification services to a third party services.  Attempts to obtain verification from the third party services were not successful.  The service was closed an “Unperformable” until such time that verification information is received.  As of this date, 7/**/15, no information has been received.

SterlingBackcheck reached out to [redacted] and spoke with him at 1722 on 7/*/15.  [redacted] indicated that he has been instructed to go to the courthouse to have the information "removed" from his record.  Therefore, the issue at hand is NOT that SterlingBackcheck improperly reported information, but that the courthouse should have removed his record from the public record (according to [redacted]).  [redacted] has been advised that a member of SterlingBackcheck's Dispute Resolution Team will work with him to "update" his report once that information have been removed from the public record.

That is not the conversation we had. First there is no employer. We are appraisers who are contracted out to the client company. Second, the Sterling Rep confirmed they do NOT give copies or the report to the subject of the report, ever. The client company did send me a copy because they were shocked that Sterling had refused to send a copy automatically. Third, if there is a way to simply print a copy from their web site why would Sterling require a copy of my drivers license to send me a copy? And why would they not tell me to retrieve it from the web site? Also, why would they not return phone calls or emails? Numerous misleading statements by the Sterling Rep.
