concrete job that is not to industry standards, chipping, has holes, hills, different colors, acid coming through, looks awful.
Week of Dec. 18, 2019 agreed to have Sterling Design to pour a 24x28 concrete slab and sidewalk for $6375. Monday Dec, 23rd he arrived and picked up drawing. Dec. 31 I paid him 50% down. Started job on Monday Jan. 13, he had a shovel, our neighbor let him use his wheel barrow and his mini excavator. Concrete came on Wed. Jan. 15, it was pumped to back yard. Footings were poured and immediately covered with slab concrete. They sat and had lunch, concrete is setting quickly, he admitted it was warm and setting quick. No power trowel. Hand troweled the whole slab. Next day, disaster, the footings sunk and a big dip appeared, he commented that it was an optical illusion, turns out with his pole in hand that it is 1/2' to 1 1/2' dip. but he can fix it, puts down some bonding agent and covers with cement, done? No, he proceeded to put some other chemical down and cover with a thin concrete something that is all flaking off. We have a multi colored slab with holes, chunks, dips, hills, not to mention he tried grinding and cut into our driveway. It is unacceptable and he wants the 2nd half of the bill, we want it torn up so we can hire someone to do it right.
He is not qualified to do concrete and is a disgrace to the industry. We only ask that we get a refund, to pay and have someone remove and have a more reputable company do the job to industry standards.
Homeowners hired Stirling Designs to grade, form and pour concrete to homeowners plans/specs. See plans and contract attached. Homeowners were acting as the contractor on this job. It was not within our SOW (scope of work) to draw plans or change homeowners plans/specs. We provided our professional recommendations but homeowners declined and were adamant to do this job on their own terms. Job was completed to homeowners plans/specs and to industry standards.
As for the low spot, this was due to the footer which is common and easily fixable. We addressed this and all other concerns before completing the job. While we were still on the job homeowners had another concrete contractor assess our work and low spot which of course concrete contractor confirmed our work and low spot.
After job was completed homeowners waited 10 days to contact us. Homeowners declined our resolution and refused to pay balance. Homeowners shown signs from the very beginning that this would be the outcome. Homeowners were not a pleasure to work with and were very demeaning.
Homeowners were given an NTO (notice to owner) from us and the concrete company. If remaining balance is not paid within 30 days we and concrete company will put a lien on the homeowners property.
