Now a bumper sticker and a pendant costs $75. My family was also duped thinking it was a fee for NHS. We should have known better because they never required before.

The National Society of High School Scholars Response • Aug 21, 2018

Hello Ms.,

Thanks for reaching out to us directly - and congratulations to *** on her academic achievements! In the United States, an honor society is an organization that recognizes excellence among its peers. There are numerous honor societies at both the secondary school and collegiate levels, and academically talented students can expect to receive invitations from more than one organization. There are many options out there for high-achieving students, you are not limited to just one and you are certainly right to do your research! Unfortunately, there seems to be some misinformation out there about NSHSS and we are doing our best to share real stories and achievements of our outstanding students, member benefits, and relevant information on our website at www.nshss.org and through our social media channels. We actually have members "take over" our Instagram every day this summer and you can check them out @NSHSS.

Like other academic or professional societies, NSHSS does charge a fee for membership that helps the society off-set costs of providing member communications and benefits. This one-time $75 fee for membership may also be waived for qualifying students without the financial means through our fee-waiver program. We are very proud to honor all students who are striving for and achieving academic excellence, and honoring and recognizing these students is a core value of the society. However, it seems some folks confuse that with the sole benefit of the Society. This is why we say: Be Honored. Be More. NSHSS honors students for their academic achievements and opens pathways for high achieving students and their families to more. When you see the amazing students who have found great resources like scholarships, study abroad experiences or summer programs, a peer network, access to corporate and educational opportunities, and member conferences and events through their membership in NSHSS - you will know we are a legitimate organization.

Lastly, all of our Members receive a Member Kit which includes a welcome letter, a personalized certificate, press release, tassel drop and a sticker which they are always anxious to receive and rightfully so. Please feel free to give Member Services a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX, M-F, 8a-6p EST and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about Membership, scholarships and upcoming Member events.

All the Best,
Carla G. ***

I appreciate your concern for my child's future. I accepted your invitation to call member services within the indicated office hours. However, I was asked to leave a message and when I attempted to do so, I was told that the voicemail box was full. Your exhaustive replies to each negative review are thinly veiled attempts to defend masquerading as the National Honor Society. They do not charge students fees. Oh and no one cares about your Instagram. You really ought to shut this thing down.

We just recently received the invitation letter for NSHSS for our son. Even before opening the envelope, I knew something was amiss. The envelope was addressed to our son, using his nickname...not his legal name. The school written on the bottom of the envelope is a school he doesn't attend anymore, and in reading the letter, I'm not even sure that they have the right person. I saw my son's grades from when he attended that school, they were good, but no where near scholar worthy. My son was so excited when he received these documents, and it broke his heart when I had to tell him that this was a scam. I spent hours proving to him as to WHY this is a scam and it wasn't until we hit the Revdex.com website that he realized he was duped.

The National Society of High School Scholars Response

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) is a distinguished international honors society founded in 2002 by James L, and Claes N, senior member of the N Peace Prize family.

Members must be a student in high school and must meet any one of the criteria below:
â?¢ 3.5 Cumulative GPA (4.0 Scale) or higher (or equivalent such as 88 on a 100-point scale)
â?¢ 1280 SAT score or higher (new exam 2016)*
â?¢ 1150 PSAT score or higher (new exam 2016)*
â?¢ 26 ACT score or higher
â?¢ Score 4 or higher on any AP exam
â?¢ Score 5 or higher on any IB exam
â?¢ Top 10% rank in class
*Scores from the old exam (SAT score 1750 or higher; PSAT score 200 or higher) will be accepted.
We receive qualified students' names from educator nominations, educational partners, and the College Board Student Search Service which is a self-reporting opt-in service that connects students with colleges, universities and scholarship opportunities. We inform prospective students as to how they were nominated in the second to last paragraph of their invitation letter, typically the last sentence. It is never our intention to extend an invitation to a student who does not meet one of the qualifying criteria. Procedures are in place to ensure that only qualified students receive an invitation for membership, however, from time to time, we do receive misinformation based on student-reported data and errors do occur.

In addition to recognition of their academic achievements, NSHSS offers many benefits to its membership. The Society awards more than $2 million in exclusive scholarships annually to our members, and connects high-achieving scholars with colleges and universities around the globe. In addition, NSHSS members can participate in member events and college fairs hosted across the country, unique study abroad and experiential learning opportunities and benefit from a host of exclusive partner offers.

Our Ambassador Leadership Program engages students in their local communities and provides leadership opportunities for high achieving members. Students also may nominate extraordinary teachers as "Educators of Distinction" who may then qualify for a variety of grants to further their professional pursuits and add resources to their classrooms.

NSHSS is a lifetime membership that supports scholars on their high school to college and career quest. Membership fees support all of these scholarships, events, activities and partnerships of the society. Finally, NSHSS does offer fee waivers for qualified students that cannot afford membership.

More information can be found online at www.nshss.org. We are also happy to connect with you on a call to discuss further.

A member of my church asked if the church could pay the membership fee for their grandson to enter the NSHSS. They thought it was the NHS. The literature clearly indicated that the fee was for membership in the NSHSS.

Two things I learned about NSHSS: 1) For your sixty dollar membership you get a bumpersticker and a membership card and a special tassel for your graduation. 2) Colleges don't care about NSHSS membership.

The National Society of High School Scholars Response

NSHSS is an honor society established in 2002 by Claes Nobel of the Nobel Prizes family. For the past 15 years, the organization has collaborated with colleges, universities, educational, corporate and governmental partners to support members as they transition from high school to college and from college to career. Our invitation clearly states that we are The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). We have never held ourselves out as NHS. Our benefits include: access to exclusive scholarships, member events and college fairs, partner offers and discounts, and resources for college and career preparation. We have partnerships with colleges and universities all over the world who appreciate and recognize diversity in experience, activities, and achievements.

A high-achieving student should expect to receive multiple invitations to join honor societies both in and outside of their school. It's important to understand that they don't have to join just one. The costs and benefits vary among organizations. There is a one-time lifetime membership fee which supports the Society's mission and there are no additional fees or annual renewals required. Through our partners, we also provide full and partial waivers in cases of financial hardship. No qualified student is ever denied membership due to an inability to pay. For details on how to secure a fee waiver, visit https://www.nshss.org/fee-waiver.

At NSHSS we strive to offer high-achieving students a platform and a community with which to connect, explore, and grow. In addition, we offer more than $2 million in scholarship funding annually, study-abroad programs, leadership and development opportunities and more. Members gain enriching experiences to advance their goals and change their world as they transition from high school to college and from college to career. The best way to learn about NSHSS is to visit our website at www.nshss.org or call us at 1-866-343-1800 or email us at [email protected].
