We recently purchased a property and Universal was chosen through our broker and I must admit it was the least expensive insurance around
However when it came closing the deal and getting insurance they had to provide an inspection on the property
This is where things went southWe purchased the property end of SeptBeginning of Nov I received a call stating they needed to do an inspection and were not able to get a hold of me while the inspector was onsite (Nov 7th) I was home that day all dayThey also stated that could not access the property because I was in a gated community which in fact is completely falseI do not live in a gated community(times they said the inspector could not provide the inspection because its in a gated community)
They said they would re issue the inspectionI also received a letter stating that since they tried to inspect the property and was not able to our insurance policy will be canceled in days if the inspection did not take place
They told me to call back in weeks if I have not heard from the inspectorI called back in a weeks as I had not heard from any inspectorThey person with Universal proceeded to tell me to call back at the weeks as it has not been the entire weeks
Well, because of the Holidays I had not called back right at the end of weeks so the policy cancellation date ended up falling over Thanksgiving week and our policy was canceled on a Sunday
Called Universal on Monday and they stated the Inspector didn't have the correct infoThat the 3rd party was supposed to give the inspector the correct address and contact infoSo I called the 3rd partyThey stated they never hire inspectorsThat it was Universal that hires the inspection
Now I'm getting upsetNobody knows what to doSo I called Universal again and they stated they would put a rush on an inspection and I made sure they have the correct address and phone number
A week goes by and I get another email from the 3rd party saying the inspector cannot get on the property because its in a gated community! Once again, there was nobody on my property
During all this we received a cancellation letter as well as a refund check from universal
I sent an email to the 3rd party saying I'm tired of them not doing their job and I'm shopping for insuranceI'm done messing around with a company that cannot even find my address
It was then that the 3rd party called up Universal and handled everythingThen days later an inspector shows up on our propertyHe was there for less than minutes and he was gone
Is this how Universal does business? They lied to me on several occasions stating the inspector had shown up but since it was in a gated community they could not do the inspectionI told them from the beginning I DO NOT live in a gated community
I live in a remote neighborhood and I know when someone is on my propertyEither that or the inspection company was not telling the truth to Universal
Not happy with the service as they were being dishonest
Since when do I pay for insurance and somehow I have to follow up with them to make sure the job is done? Not recommending this company to anyoneIts been months of nothing but a headache

I would LOVE to share my experiences with this company Universal Property and Casualty has been a pleasure to work with The employees in the underwriting department are outstanding when it comes to helping and explaining matters to me I have also worked closely with the Underwriting Supervisor as well I must say that they really have a great TEAM!!! From the marketing dept, to their underwriters, to their supervisors, all of them have been fantastic!!

My mortgage company erroneously paid my insurance from another person's escrow account Universal spent an extended time on the phone with the mortgage company and myself to correct the issue They followed up as promised and handled the problem promptly

Over the Holiday Thanksgiving week resolved a home insurance issue quicklyIt was a pleasure dealing with the customer service agent Holly which was very knowledgeable and prompt with suggestions

My experience in dealing with insurance agents is not always pleasant However, I was very pleased with the service that I received

We were having an issue with the year the apartment complex was built When I originally called the complex the assistant manager could not help me I was able to get the producer to call and he was able to get an email to show the correct year built I emailed it to the company In the meantime the policy cancelled for non payment of the additional premium that was caused by the change in the year built *** *** called today 11-13-to let us know that the information had not been received and that the policy had cancelled I emailed the information again *** responded immediately letting me know that she had received the information this time and that she had processed the credit and that there was now a zero balance and that the policy had been reinstated I feel like *** went out of her way to make sure this situation was handled in a timely manner and that the insured's coverage was reinstated and in effect There are many people in this business that feel like that it is not their responsibility to go that extra mile *** did and I really appreciated that It is great to work with people who have a great work ethic Thanks *** !!!

My experience with the customer service department at Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company was awesome I had an unethical insurance agent that did not do his job I never received any correspondence regarding my policy; I found out that the wrong address and phone number was listed on the account I ended up canceling my insurance because of the insurance agent NOT because of the home owners insurance company
Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company listened to my complaint and saw that I had been jerked around by the insurance agent They ruled in my favor, back dated my cancellation to the initial date of my new insurance and have promised to issue a refund within 72-hours back to my escrow account with my mortgage company
I was very pleased with the customer service at Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company If my current insurance agent wrote homeowners insurance with this company, I would have just switched agents

I hire this company through a broker (All american insurance) in order to buy a housethey got my inspection at least one month before the closing of the housenow (month after I move in) I received a letter saying they gonna cancel my policy due non existents problems and I had week to fix them or they gonna drop mei had to hire another inspector who did a new inspection and clarified that everything is working perfect
he explain too, that due to the age of the house he found some clothe wirehe report it (just one line of is cloth wire) and wrote "no hazard" and clarified again that the electrical system is in good working order
they took more than a week (more than the time that they gave me to fix everything on the house) to review the new inspection (the one that I paid off course) to tell me that they are dropping me anywise because they can't accept cloth wire, so I have to rewire the house (in one week) o get a new insurance
hope I get my money back as quick as they took it from my account
really, one of the worst experience I ever had, they turn something happy (like move in to a new home) in an horrible experience

Universal Property & Casualty are super easy to work with. They go beyond just answering your questions. [redacted] recently helped me with a sticky situation and she was very knowledgeable & thoughtful. She truly understood what I needed and guided me through how to get the information they needed to them. I really enjoy the customer service reps I speak with when I call Universal.

I called with a concern about being billed twice and spoke with "[redacted]" who was professional, polite, informative and helpful. It turned out that I had "2" policies when only one was needed. [redacted] spoke with a supervisor who offered a way for me to receive a refund for one of the policies since it's inception. It was a wonderful surprise to find a company who stood behind their company and was not only willing, but offered to make amends. I'm used to making business calls and waiting and waiting and waiting for someone to respond, to get service and to resolved the problem. I was very impressed with Universal Property & Casualty and would highly recommend it to others.

Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Company was very responsive to a changing insurance need. They insure a new property I purchased at the end of August; I upgraded the property in September before putting it on the market in October; unfortunately I didn't have a tenant until 10/31 and the policy was going to be cancelled for reasons of vacancy on 11/7. When a tenant was secured on 10/31, their representative, Ms. *, was very helpful and we worked together in "problem solving" mode. The property manager emailed a copy of the lease and with Ms. *'s assistance that was sufficient to stop the insurance cancellation. I very much appreciate her suggesting ways to solve the problem, and her detail oriented and prompt follow through that resulted in a happy outcome.

Our family has insured our condo with Universal for over 10 years. The rates are very competitive and the coverage is just what we need. I advise anyone looking to cover their condo or home to compare the coverage and rates with Universal. Your will be glad that you did.

Our home in Ocala, Fl was hit by an F-1 tornado on April 20, 2015. Our homeowner's insurance company wasand remainsUniversal Property & Casualty.
Our home was destroyed and had to rebuilt from the ground up, leaving myself, my husband and our young, sick kitten displaced in hotels for over five months. It was an extremely stressful time.
Our Universal contact was a very helpful and always on time with financial payments, Ms. Jody P, who I cannot say enough good about.
Universal paid for the rebuilding and replacing of our home and every single thing inside that had been damaged or destroyed; and they paid for our hotel suite and food (till we were settled back into a hotel room with a kitchen) as well.
I'm truly sorry for all customers who have had problems with their Universal Insurance policies, but for us, Universal - and Jody Price - were a godsend to and wonderful about everything. We'll always be thankful to them. And they didn't even drop us after-the-fact.

Terrible terrible company

we went through an insurance agent to secure a tenant policy for my son the move into off campus housing at FSU. The policy was issued only to be cancelled a short time later. Now two months later I have received a policy in the mail. I called to clarify what was going on and was told that the policy was indeed cancelled. This same company had no problem insuring my daughter in the same type of housing the prior year. Now they only want to refund 60 % of my premium after they cancelled the policy. If they do not insure off campus type housing then they should not have accepted the the money in the first place!!!!!

Unethical company -- had a policy effective 4/16/2016 through 4/16/2017. January, 2017, received a statement from them saying I had to pay $295 effective Jan. 11, 2017 to cover insurance through 4/16/17. Since I had paid in full through 4/16/2017, I refused. They are cancelling my policy effective 2/1/17 (due to non-payment!). They are a terrible company and should be penalized by the Insurance Commissioner for fraudent business practices.

Very helpful on resolving my issues.
