Verde Energy USA Inc. Reviews (813)

Review: I received a letter dated December 29, 2014 that stated my electric rate was 11.99 cents per KWH. The bill that I received from [redacted] for billing period November 18 - December 18, 2014 had a Generation Service Charge of 18.99 cents per KWH. I have made several attempts to reach Verde Energy via telephone at the customer service number provided on my bill and in the letter. The call was not answered each time I called after waiting on hold for over 10 minutes. I also reached out to Verde Energy via their customer service e-mail address. I have yet to receive a response.Desired Settlement: I believe I was over charged based on the information provided in the letter that was mailed to me and my bill should be adjusted accordingly. Having made several attempts to reach Verde Energy directly, filing a claim with the Revdex.com is a last resort to get this settled. I'm not sure why Verde Energy is non-responsive to inquiries.

Review: I have been Verde Energy customer almost an year. Last month I received my electricity bill and its way high than expected. when I checked with them I got to know that I am running under variable rate. They didnt notify me about this change.

I have requested for any adjustment because this amount is very much for me I wont be able to pay. I am yet to hear from them. Hope this complaint can help resolve my issue. kindly look into the matter and looking forward for a favorable response.Desired Settlement: looking for fair billing.

Review: I received my most recent energy bill from [redacted] that's when I discovered Verde Energy added on as another supplier. I had no idea what this company was. They're separate amount is more than twice what my regular supplier is! I'm being charged from both companies. I never authorized nor have spoken with anyone about dealing with Verde Energy USA. [redacted] is billing me $50.45 and Verde is billing me $125.11. Its very odd to me that they are able to access any information of mine in order to bill me. I don't know what type of scam is going on but it's absolutely ridiculous. I want out of this trap that I was magically put in.Desired Settlement: Take me off of their billing and take away the charges.

Review: I used Verde Energy USA for my electric supplier in **. My normal company would normally be [redacted]. I had done my research and found them to be very competitive. That is for their fixed rate; which is what you agree to without a contract. HOWEVER, if you don't ask to go on the fixed rate after your lock in period, you are then billed on their variable rate which is not competitive - up to over 50% higher than original supplier. Since there is no contract to sign, you don't get that information. I thought my bills were high this year because of the cold Winter and hot early Summer. I was wrong. It was because Verde Energy USA kept increasing the rate for supplying my electricity. It could be a bait and switch because I thought I was on this contract rate and then they don't tell you when its over and they increase your rate. I feel "cheap" and used from their claim of cheap green energy.Desired Settlement: I request a refund to what would be a rate consistent with the original supplier would have charged. I my case from October 13 to September 14 $998.74

Mr. [redacted],

Verde Energy is deceitful. They say they have lower rates than [redacted], a public utility, but in the end their rates are much higher: 18c vs. 11c per kWH.
When it comes to utilities, go with public utilities like [redacted] because they are regulated utilities. This is an example where Deregulation is BAD for the public.

Review: I have been a customer of Verde Energy for almost four years. My rate went from 0.0999 to .1749 in the span of four monthscausing my bill to more than double. When I contacted my electriccompany I was told due to the fact that I used Verde my billwas more than $200 more than it would have been not using thissupplier. How can a company get away with this?Desired Settlement: I would like to be reimbursed for $500.

Response:

We sent the following email to the customer today

I reviewed your recent inquiry.

Your

account was on a variable rate offer since August 2010 and your rate

did not increase for over 3 years. The rate

began to increase due to significant increases in energy supply costs,

not all of which

were passed on to Verde customers. Although your account leaves Verde

service at the end of the current billing cycle on 7/1/14, we will issue

you a billing adjustment check for

$89.46 to lower the effective rate for your 4/30/14 bill which had

relatively high usage. You should receive this check in approximately 2

weeks.

Regards,

Verde Energy USA

Review: Spoke with company in January and authorized billing of just $3.95. Made multiple statements to person that I only will authorize this payment and no others. He stated only payment company will get. Then call was disconnected before process was finished. Was to mail out information never received. Then in February Debit card charged 19.95. Called company 4-5 times to resolve company each time claim unable to find me in system through multiple search. Stated each time will send information to billing to resolve and will contact me and refund. Called every week since beginning of February. Have not recognize communication on what is going on. Still they can not find me to pull up after calling again. Now im having to pay to close out card to prevent future charges.Desired Settlement: Would like reason on not being found. And refund

Review: Verde is a reseller of electricity. They give you a certain rate per kilowatt hour (KWH) and then out of the blue they raise it. Then raise it again the very next month so the increase may appear to be more gradual. So the rate went from 9 cents to 11 cents/KWH. It went up to 16. Then it went up to 21 cents. They do this during the coldest months of course when heat consumption is highest. I called to complain and they said they'd lower it back to 11 cents. They basically told me that only those who call to complain will have their rates lowered. Like, "That's the way it all works." So they compensated me for this rate and I did receive a check for about $70. Next bill comes and it's still at 21 cents/KWH. I called again and they promised a lower rate and agreed to send me a new bill which I am still waiting for. Billing does not go through Verde. It used to go directly through [redacted] but as of last month it now goes through [redacted]. I am waiting for a new bill or another check. In the meantime I have switched to another company because I will no longer support such an unethical company that pretty much admitted to me - agreed with me - that it is one big scam! I might get compensated. I am not sure as of right now. I still feel compelled to report this company. They raise their rates with no warning, eventually DOUBLING their rates. This isn't just a dispute over a few dollars. They're making hundreds of dollars off each person they do this to! And even when they put your rate back down when you complain they have received about 2 bills at the middle and then really high rate.Desired Settlement: Verde pulls you in at a rate of .0775/KH. Went up to .0869/KWH. Stayed there for a while. About this time last year it went up to .1199/KWH and then .1599/KWH. I complained and it went back down to .0869 until, I think November or December of 2014 when it crept up again. January went up to .1599/KWH. Feb was .2099/KWH. I want my bill reissued at .0869/KWH and my delivery service to be reduced by approximately $20. I have no idea how that figure is calculated but it goes up with the KWH rate amount. Here is my math:

My usage amount was 1394 x .2099 = $292.60 (total Feb bill was $405.79). 1394 x .0869 = $121.14. 292.60 - 121.14 = 171.46 + that $20 = $191.46. So They owe me approximately $191.

Responded via email on 2/24/15:Dear [redacted], This email is in reply to your complaint filed with the Revdex.com. On 10/1/2014, your 6-month fixed rate of $0.0869/kwh expired. Our fixed rate programs are fixed for a certain period of time as explained on your Terms of Service. We mailed you a reminder letter on 7/10/14, letting you know that your fixed rate was about to expire and that you should call us to set up a new fixed rate period. I already issued you a refund for the difference in rate from the variable you paid from your 12/4/2014- 1/06/2015 billing cycle, to our fixed rate. You received and cashed this $69.82 check on 2/18/15.I have calculated an additional refund of $146.37, for the difference in rate from your 1/6/2015-2/4/2015 billing cycle, to our current fixed rate. Your account with Verde is closed and you will no longer see Verde on any of your bills.

Review: I find that this company to be entirely unethical. The reason they exist is due to deregulation - a good thing. They advertise, market, and sell as being the low cost alternative to [redacted]. I recently completed - a long overdue - review of my bill and rates. They are consistently and knowingly higher than [redacted]. They lure you in with a fixed low rate and commit to be lower than [redacted]. Than they - only via [redacted] - tell you that the trial period end and you are shifted to a variable rate that has been consistently significantly higher priced.

This company should be investigated by the Attorney Generals of all the states they operate, as well as, the [redacted] Attorney General for their business practices.Desired Settlement: Refund all it clients for the difference in price they charge vs [redacted] and other similar situations. As well a full legal investigation into their business practices.

We sent the customer the following email todayMr. [redacted],

Review: I signed up in August 2012 through [redacted], which supplied me with Verde Energy Group as my electric company. The boasted saving money while using green energy. Beginning in October 2013, the rate I was paying began to climb each month, until February 2014 when it almost doubled the rate I would have been paying [redacted] (my supplier which gives the rate to compare on my bill every month). I was paying 18.9 cents per kw when the advertized rate on Verde's site is a lock-in 11 cents per kw. I have been charged almost double what I would have been paying with [redacted], and the rate just kept climbing. I write an extensive letter to Verde with my complaints, and asked to be refunded the difference between my supplier's rate and what I'd been charged. over the past 6 months it equaled over $1000 that I overpaid with the intention of SAVING money. I explained in an email to Verde that I understood that I had a variable rate, but it never actually saved money, just equaled the [redacted] rate at the lowest rate, and I didn't mind a small variation if I was using green energy but I could not afford to pay twice as much on my electric bill. My electric bill in February alone was close to $700 and I have a 1300 square foot house, my furnace actually went out for a week that month, and I keep my thermostat at 64 [redacted]rees! Verde offered me a refund of $175 from my last bill, but I don't feel that this is a fair amount, being that they advertise saving money and in fact they are taking advantage of the months you would use the most electricity. I do not know if I continued with them if the rate would still climb or if it would begin to decrease but regardless I have been gouged and would not recommend anyone using Verde for their electric company. I hope to have this matter resolved, as I tried to resolve with Verde directly but they do not seem to think there is anything wrong with FALSE ADVERTISING! Thank you for your attention to this matter.Desired Settlement: The amount of money that I overpaid to Verde in comparison to [redacted]'s rate to compare. This is a total of $1037.18. from April 2013-April 2014

I have only one thing to say. I want everything with my name on it CANCELLED. Biggest scam for getting quick money. I am on Social Security and so much has been taken out of my bank account I don't have money to buy grocery. I tried to tell your "representative" on the phone but he was talking so fast...kept telling me to just say yes. Tried to be nice but he doesn't give you time to be nice or ugly. NOW WHATEVER HE SIGNED ME UP FOR I WANT CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY.

Review: The energy company is charging too much. When we signed up we signed up around $.099/KWH but they are charging us $.1317/KWH. They should have informed us after changing teh rate or any time they changed the rate. We never received the information. We only realized we checked the bill.Desired Settlement: Please refund the overcharging

Mr. Gupta is enrolled under a monthly variable rate plan. The rate under this plan can change at any time without notice based upon market conditions. The overall costs to supply Mr. Gupta's account have increased in recent months and that is why his rate has increased. Mr. Gupta can cancel his enrollment with Verde Energy at any time at no cost by contacting our customer service group at [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I do not agree that they can increase the rate without informing the customer. I became their customer because they bought the company I was initially enrolled with. This is signification increase and they should have informed us. They should reimburse me, the over charge they have done on my account

Sincerely,

Sanyogita Gupta

Response:

The Terms of Service for this account provided for a monthly variable supply rate which can change at any time based upon market conditions without any required notice. For reference the initial rate of $0.0939/KWH for the first 3 billing cycles with Verde was more than $0.02/KWH below the PSE&G supply rate and provided significant savings during this period.

Review: I recently noticed that Verde is listed on my electric bill. I would of noticed it sooner, however, we had some serious family issues we needed to handle. I called [redacted] and they have no idea how the appeared on my bill. And gave me the number to call. ###-###-####. I spoke with Kari in customer service. When I asked her how they appeared on my billing statement she said someone authorized this. Since I have no knowledge of who this company is I asked who and how was this change authorized to my account. She said anyone in the house can authorize this. Since I am the only adult(children ages 7 and 12). How could this be? She said anyone can authorize this even a child. She said someone could of come to the house and if my child said ok then the bill would be changed! I would like to know how a child, if in fact true, can make changes to an electric bill in their parent name. Neither of my children made such changes and they are directed to not answer the door and speak with strangers in any event! If Verde came to my home and forced a child to answer the door and talk to them when they are directed my a parent to NEVER talk to strangers I would like answers. Who allows this in Verde Energy? I demand proof that this account was authorized by signature to be changed.Desired Settlement: If the amount of $1,404.20 is not refunded off my [redacted] bill immediately I will seek damages and also seek damages if they allowed a VERDE employee to speak to my minor children without an adult present! My electric service is scheduled to be disconnected due to this erroneous billing practice and if that happens and I loose my electric services I will also seek damages because both children have severe ashtma due to allergies and this is the worst season and one has been hospitalized this weekend.

Emailed customer directly:Dear [redacted],This e-mail is in reply to the complaint you filed with the Revdex.com. It appears that you were enrolled in our variable rate program and Verde did experience several rate changes as energy prices fluctuated. I have attached a copy of the welcome kit you received at the time of your enrollment (5/3/2011). Verde Energy does not promise to ever match or be less than PSEG rates. We have been informed by your utility company that your account will no longer utilize Verde Energy USA for the supply portion of your electric service. Your service will be returned to your utility on 9/21/2015. We have lowered your rate to our fixed offer of $0.1349/kwh for any remaining billing cycles with us. We are processing a $87.73 refund for the difference in rate from your three highest bills. Verde Energy is not required to offer any refunds on the variable rate pricing and we do so only as a courtesy. You should receive that check in the mail within 10-15 business days.Karen M[redacted]Customer Support | Verde Energy USA[redacted]

Review: Starting approximately 1/16/15 received electric bill with supply charge at variable rate of 10%/kWh. The total of the bill was around $350. Called Verde and [redacted] to cancel supply contract. I was verbally told that by the next meter reading, [redacted] would be taking over the supply service. Approximately Feb 7, I received the next bill and was charged another variable rate of around 15% /kWh. The total of this bill was $450.00. After calling [redacted], I was told that the cancellation process takes at least 14 business days so I wouldn't have been able to cancel in time for the next meter reading. At this point, I called Verde and asked if they might be able to lower the bill. I was told that someone would be contacting me via email within the next 2-3 days. I have received no contact. Approximately 2/18, I sent an e-mail asking for the same consideration. Another week later, my bill still has not been lowered nor has anyone contacted me. FYI, the market rate is currently about 8%. The two bills are 2 and 3 times more than this time last year. We did have increased usage but not enough to triple the bill! I have paid about $400 and still owe around $450 on the account. The email address associated with this account is[redacted]Desired Settlement: Please help me communicate with this company and get them to understand that they are overcharging families who are on budgets. I only work part-time and the electric bill is my contribution to the household bills. My funds will be severely limited if there is nothing that can be done. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Review: This is to follow a phone call to Verde Energy USA regarding the fees charged on my account. When I called to question the amount I was being charged the person said"OH goodness: and realized I was switched from one rate to a "Variable" rate which made the fees higher. I was to be notified and never was, when the initial contract ended. I was told I would receive a refund credit, but I chose to Cancell all together and still expect a refund.Desired Settlement: of the Overcharges.

Review: My electric generation company is [redacted] and my cr was provided to the Revdex.com. In early February, I contacted Verde customer service to discontinue using them as my electric supplier. The representative indicated my decision was a shame as they were going to be going to a lower fixed kwh rate of $0.0929 (from $0.1019 -January billing statement) for the next 6 months. I maintained my decision to cancel as this lower rate was still higher than most competition. The $0.0929 was not presented as a promotional offer and simply stated as my rate for the next 6 months had I not been discontinuing my business arrangement. When I received my February billing statement, the kwh rate reflected $0.1469 (a 44% increase in one billing cycle) instead of a decrease to $0.929 as indicated in my prior call to Verde. I called Verde the morning of 2/25 and was promised a return call by a supervisor to discuss my account within 2 business days. After 3 business days, I called again 8:30 AM Monday, 3/3 and asked for a return call by the end of the day. I again did not receive a return call to discuss my billing. I understand that utility rates are variable and change from month to month, however they should not be arbitrary as it would appear to be for a customer that is leaving and being charged 44% more vs. a customer that is staying and being charged 9% less. Today is now one week since I first reached out for an explanation on my rates and conversation. In addition, when I signed up with Verde 2 years ago I was told that I would be getting a $50 cash back bonus offer which I never received. When speaking to customer service representatives, they both asked the same question: "didn't you receive a welcome package?" I did not. I have been waiting a week for an explanation as to why I am not being charged the rate of $0.0929. if this was going to be my rate prior to my notifying Verde of my intent to change electric suppliers, why is this not my rate on the following bill I received?Desired Settlement: As outlined in my complaint, I would like to have the charges on my last statement adjusted based on the discussed (and currently published rate on their web site) to $0.0929/kwh as well as assured that this will be the rate on my last electric bill since it will occur before the 6 months the representative indicated the rate will be fixed.

This account was enrolled in December 2011 under a monthly variable rate offer which can change with market conditions. The account entered service on 2/16/12 at a rate of $0.0810/KWH and this rate held steady thru June of 2013 when it began to increase because of increases in Verde's energy supply costs. Thre account was dropped per the customer's request on 2/15/14 and will leave service at the end of the current billing period on 3/19/14.

As a good will gesture we have redeemed the customer's $50 cash bonus and are also proving a $39.04 billing refund for the February bill which takes the rate down to $0.0929/KWH. The customer will receive both checks within 2 weeks.

AS A NATIONAL GRID CUSTOMER MY RATE WENT UP FROM 8.2 PER KWH 16.2 PER KWH. I WAS PLEASED THAT VERDE ENERGY OFFERED A 4 MONTH FIXED RATE OF 11.99 PER KWH AND THAT THERE WERE NO CONTRACT NOR FEES INVOLVED. ALSO THIS IS AN OFFER I CAN OPT OUT OF AT ANY TIME WITHOUT PENALTY. I'M VERY PLEASED TO BE ABLE TO SAVE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS, AS UTILITIES CAN BE VERY COSTLY. THE $75 CHECK IS DEFINITELY A PLUS.

Review: THIS COMPANY OFFERED LOW COST ON MY ELECTRIC BILL BUT I AM CONSTANTLY BEING OVERCHARGED. I LOOKED AT MY LAST SIX MONTHS AND I WAS PAYING MORE THAN PSEG WOULD HAVE CHARGED ME.I CALLED IN MARCH AND THEY OFFERED ME A REFUND OF $69.00 AND A FIXED RATE FOR 6MTHS.MY NEXT BILL WAS LOWER BUT I HAVE STILL TO RECEIVE THE CHECK. I BELIEVED I AM OWED AT LEAST $200.00 FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS. I CALLED AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES TO DISCUSS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BILLING DEPT WILL CONTACT ME. SO FAR I RECEIVED NO CHECK AND NO RESPONSE FROM THE BILLING DEPT. I AM REALLY STRESSED BECAUSE OF THIS. I NEED MY REFUND FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS I ALSO WANT TO TERMINATED THIS SERVICE AND RETURN TO PSE&G EFFECTIVE WITH THE NEXT BILL ( JUNE 2014).Desired Settlement: I WOULD LIKE A REFUND CHECK OF $250.00 AND TERMINATED THIS SERVICE EFFECTIVE ON THE JUNE BILL. I AM LOCKED IN ON A FIXED RATE OF 11 CENTS UNTIL AUGUST 2014. SO MY BILL SHOULD BE OK FOR THAT MONTH..ALSO I WANT TO PAYOFF THE ENTIRE BALANCE WITH THAT BILL SO I CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANY OUTSTANDING BAL. OR THEM PUNISHING ME FOR SPEAKING OUT...
