FERPA regulations prohibit the release of some details necessary to address some concerns. The WGU public website indicates that, “Network administrator jobs typically require an applicant to have a bachelor's degree, usually with an emphasis in computer programming, networking, or systems design
Qualified applicants in this ever-changing field need to be up-to-date with the latest developments in network technology, and this can be achieved and documented through certifications in Microsoft or CompTIA, common industry standardsMany quality bachelor's degree programs have such certifications built into their curriculums, so by the time you graduate, you'll have what it takes to capture the attention of today's employers.”The BSITNW program provides a solid foundation in computer information systems and technologiesIn addition to the IT content, the degree program includes a broad collegiate-level educationThe program is primarily designed for those seeking a career or to advance their current career as network systems administrators, by developing levels of expertise required for increased responsibility in the information technology fieldStudents seeking the BS in IT with Network Administration emphasis demonstrate additional competencies in this area by taking and passing specific industry certification exams, including the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate on Windows ServerThe program coursework also supports student preparation to complete the CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, and Project+ certification exams.WGU may modify requirements and course offerings within that version of the program to maintain the currency and relevance of WGU’s competencies and programsAs these changes are implemented, WGU will ensure that the length of the student’s degree program (i.e., total competency unit requirements) will not increase and that competency units already earned will be applied to the updated program versionWhen program requirements are updated, students returning from term break or returning after withdrawal from the university will be expected to re-enter the updated versionof the program.WGU is delivering on the program expectations as outlined in the BSITNW Program GuidebookIn addition, the WGU Alumni Relations team reviewed data for graduates who completed the BSITNW program, and found that 81% are employed full time in their degree areaAs such, the university has not determined adequate reasons to provide tuition credit towards a different program. The student is invited to continue discussions regarding a possible program change with their Student Mentor or Program Manager, to further explore alternatives like the Data Management/Analytics or Security emphasis programs, which may more closely align with current career aspirationsAs noted in the public WGU Student Handbook, students may only change a program during the first days of a new term, and some courses from a prior program may not transfer into the new program. As always, WGU wishes the student the very best in their academic endeavors

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me

We apologize for the miscommunication A supervisor within the Student Accounts Office approved the refund based on customer service concerns after the initial response to the Revdex.com was approved The complainant will receive the full amount of prorated tuition and the resource fee

FERPA regulations again prohibit the release of details necessary to provide specific rebuttals to some of the allegationsAs previously noted, WGU did not find any deviation from the standard exam approval process, as administered by the Student Mentor and Course MentorsTherefore, the academic record and related Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) calculation are considered accurate.Students receive a mark of "pass" or "not passed" on their permanent academic record for any courses for which they enroll in a term, regardless of whether they attempt an assessmentA grade of "not passed" is counted as competency units that are failed and are counted against SAPHowever, while students who fail to maintain SAP are placed on a warning, the student was still listed in good standing at end of term, and therefore there was minimal related impact. The university appreciates student feedback and consistently looks for ways to improve the service providedWGU values, and actively seeks, the opinions of its students about their educational experienceTo facilitate the ability of students to make their opinions known about courses, WGU provides a structured way to contribute suggestions or voice issues and concernsIn each Course of Study (COS), there is a tab to allow students to leave feedback regarding a courseThis feedback is read and sent to the appropriate department to be analyzed and incorporated, where appropriate, into course updates and changes.WGU continues to wish the student the very best in their academic endeavors

I am rejecting this response because:
This is absolutely bogus If that is the case, then I initially submitted my intent to withdraw in November when I was first made aware of the policy forcing students to enroll when they are not ready That is well documented and I have the email available if you need a copy Furthermore, I did not submit my payment until after the cutoff date of the 22nd which further renders our contract invalid.Lastly, I extended my intent to withdraw after Steve M*** fraudulently misrepresented the refund policy and denied my refund I have email documentation to support this as well I am requesting a full reimbursement for your discontinuance of my program under the TWC reimbursement policy
Sincerely,
*** ***

As noted on the WGU website, assessments at WGU are developed using a rigorous process that conforms to federal guidelines and professional testing standardsWGU relies upon an Assessment Program Council, comprised of leading test experts, to authenticate the quality and rigorousness of WGU’s
assessmentsThis process yields high-quality exams, reliable scores, and supports valid conclusions about each student’s level of competenceWhile WGU allows students to take as many courses as they can per term, we cannot guarantee course acceleration due to individual circumstance.Evaluators are subject matter experts tasked with reviewing assessment submissions in a fair and unbiased manner to determine if competency has been demonstratedThe student’s performance assessments were scored by human evaluators, who all have a minimum of a relevant master’s degree and some have a PhD in their fieldIn addition, it is a fundamental precept of our educational model for Course Mentors not to be involved with the assessment processEvaluation faculty score student submissions and make independent judgment against task instructions and the rubrics developed.WGU conducted a review and did not find any evidence to support claims regarding the student’s evaluation concernsStudents who have this type of concern are invited to file an appeal There is a specific process in place to ensure students feel their work has been evaluated fairlyWGU will reach out to the student as requested to determine how we might further support the student with their academic progress

I am rejecting this response because: My mentor at Western Governors University kept telling me that I would be ready for cohort (Demonstration Teaching) if I would do this, once I did that, there would be something else for me to do She would tell me that I was ready then I would receive an email from someone else saying that I wasn't The school is suppose to be work at your own pace I had to work to help with paying for my education, so I worked as a substitute teacher and a coach while working on my degree I received the packets for demonstration teaching two times, the schools were contacted and everything, then I was told I wasn't ready There was only three tests for me to take to finish the degree My mentor even told my parents that I was almost finished more than once (FERPA violation) My Mother and I both have emails from her If there is a code of Ethics, Professional Behaviors and Dispositions for the students, then this should also apply to Western Governors University employees They required cu's to be completed each term, I was scheduled to take a test (which was cu's) and when I went to take it there was a technical difficulty on the schools behalf (they didn't send the login information for my proctor to get me on the test) My mentor told me that I had until July 31, to get it finished, then when I couldn't get on the test, someone else told me I only had until June 30, 2014, which was less than week, therefore there wasn't enough time to reschedule the test They then placed me on academic suspension, I appealed it several times and they refused to take me back I talked to several people at the school before my term was up and tried to get them to let me take the the other two test (I felt that I was ready and would pass them) but they refused I tried to email my mentor and she had blocked all of my email addresses I felt like I was lied to and given information for yearsIt was very frustrating so I told them I was tired of being screwedIt was just out of frustration and I even apologized several timesThat is the whole reason they got mad and wouldn't let me back inEvery time I talked to my mentor she would say you are almost done, just hang in thereThen I was never finishedI finally got to the point where there was nothing else they could have me do and I was put on academic probation and denied when I reappliedI called and spoke to someone a little later and they told me I could get back in and finishThey gave me a number to someone at admissions and they told me just to reapply and everything would be okI sent in the application along with the $readmission fee and then was told I was rejectedThey said the person I talked to couldn't make that decision but they didn't have a problem keeping my $ It seems strange to me that I get withdrawn after years and only lacked three tests to be finished I am not asking for anything except for the opportunity to finish my degree

FERPA restrictions preclude WGU from discussing details of students' records in this forumA reply to the complainant's rejection will be sent directly to the studentWGU response to the rejection is simply to state that complainant's perspective on what may be necessary is a valid perspective, however WGU must apply its policies consistently to every applicantThis is what has been done

The complainant was administratively withdrawn for
inactivity January 9, after having been out of contact with her mentor for
several weeks. On January 10th
she reached out to me and shared personal circumstances that led to her
inactivity and requested assistance to remain
enrolled. I provided her with resources and connected
her with a student liaison to assist her with requesting a rescission of the
withdrawal. Her rescission request and
subsequent appeals were denied based on the time between her last date of
documented academic activity and the rescission requestRather than rescinding
the withdrawal, she was granted approval for readmission, but because of the return
of federal financial aid funds for the term from which she was withdrawn, she
was left with a $balance which she was told she needed to pay before
she could be cleared to restart.
All of the above actions were taken in accordance with
published WGU policy and procedures and with sound reasoning. However, based on the personal circumstances
the student shared with the university in January and her inability to return
to her studies due to the balance, we have waived the $outstanding on
her account so that she may return to her program

I am rejecting this response because: Everything that I said in my previous statement is true I do have emails where the mentor told me I was ready for demonstration teaching and also received the packets two times I took the blame for my part The reason I was put on academic suspension in the first place was because I didn't complete the cu requirement I was scheduled to take a test at a public library and when I went to take the test the school had failed to send the proctor the logon information Therefore, there was not enough time in my term to reschedule I don't see how this is my fault I am not requesting anything but the ability to receive my degree I paid thousands of dollars to this school and feel that I should be able to receive my degree As I said before, the code of ethics should go both ways (students and employees) If you had been told over and over again that you are ready for your demonstration teaching and then told by someone else that you wasn't, you would also feel like you had been screwedThis is what I basically said in my email to them That's the main reason they do not want to readmit me (I also apologized for saying it, but I was upset)My mentor had several ways of getting in touch with meI had to work while getting my education to help pay the expenses So, I was hard to get in touch with sometime Studying for a test for minutes a day once a week on the phone was not a way for me to study I had the study guide and explained to them that I was ready to take my test but the mentor refused (I had already passed the practice test) All courses were complete with the exception of tests and demonstration teaching It's strange that I was that close and then not allowed to complete the program I don't understand why anyone would even think about entering a different program at Western Governors University when they were not allowed to finish another program It just doesn't make sense to me I sure wouldn't want to spend thousands of dollars more on another program and take the chance on something like this happening again I would appreciate the $back for the readmission fee that I was told to pay and be readmitted and then wasn't

I am rejecting this response because:The November 1, start date is not an acceptable solution WGU provide no other optionsEverything was completed for enrollment and I was told that if someone was unable to start on October 1st I would be the first in line However on September 22nd, Katherine called and told me there is no wait list and the Octstart date was not possible I feel this was another example of WGU not following through on the expectations that were set

FERPA regulations prohibit the release of details necessary to provide specific rebuttals to some of the allegationsStudents may be administratively withdrawn (unofficial withdrawal) from the university and assigned an “inactive” status for a variety of reasons, including non-payment of tuition
Specific directions for making payment plan arrangements were previously provided via emailAs disclosed in article of the public WGU Student Handbook, Students with a withdrawal date that occurs after 60% of the term has been completed are not eligible for a refundThe admission application fee and resource fee are non-refundable.The student offered that the account has been referred to a collection agencyFailure to meet financial obligations of any kind to the university may result in a financial hold and suspension of future services including enrollment for subsequent termsIn addition, delinquent accounts may indeed be referred to a collection agency and the student will be responsible for additional late payment charges, interest, attorney's fees, and other costs and charges necessary for the collection of any amount not paid when due.A student who has been administratively withdrawn may appeal to be reinstated, and an appeal of administrative withdrawal was receivedHowever, to be considered, the student must have met all financial obligationsStudents withdrawn from the university, whether administratively or upon request, may also appeal for readmission at the end of the term from which they withdrewOnly students who appear to have potential for success in the WGU model and within their selected program of study will be readmittedReadmission is not automatic and could be denied for various reasons, including administrative withdrawal for non-payment.As always, WGU wishes the student the very best in their academic endeavors

I am rejecting this response because:While I can appreciate WGU's admission process and dedication to providing the student appropriate support, I believe the expectations set by WGU during the initial interview were not accurate The only deadlines presented in my first initial conversation with the Enrollment Counselor were from me, the student I clearly stated that I needed to be enrolled for the October 1st start date (and no later) The Enrollment Counselor never mentioned that there was a capacity or it could be reached To further my point, my first contact with the Enrollment Counselor was on 9/ She never mentioned that the official transcripts must be received by the 1st of the month prior to the intended start date If she would have mentioned it, then the October 1st date was not possible and I would not have continued the enrollment process In fact at no point during my daily conversations with WGU was it mentioned that I could not start on 10/until after capacity had been reached. If I would have known that transferring credits would have prevented the October 1st start date, I would have decided not to transfer the credits and retake the courses Seeing that WGU is at the student's pace, I could have covered the repeated material and pass the classes within a short period of time (less than the one month delay). At no point in WGU's response do they take ownership for their miscommunication and not setting clear expectations It is disheartening that as a business professional trying to become a WGU student and graduate I seem to have a stronger strategic plan for achieving what should be a mutual goal

FERPA regulations prohibit the release of details necessary to provide specific rebuttals to some of the allegationsWhile the Program Manager was unable to reach out to the student the first week, they made numerous subsequent attempts to contact the student to discuss their concerns but the
student did not respond to their outreach.WGU disputes the student’s claim that they were forced to pay to retake the coursePer the WGU public website, tuition is charged at a flat rate each term and covers all coursework completed in that timeEach WGU term is six months long, and unlike other schools, students aren't charged per course or per credit. As noted in the public WGU Student Handbook article, students may request an additional seven days to finalize a course for which they are registered and have the grade posted to the recently concluded termThe request must be in the form of an appeal letter to the student’s mentorThe appeal letter must be specific in nature and address the event(s) or circumstance that interrupted or impeded academic progress on a courseIn order for the appeal to be considered by the Office of the Registrar, the student must have the support of the mentor Mentor support does not guarantee the appeal will be granted.WGU disputes the student’s claim that their right to retake the assessment was violatedThe student acknowledged that the Course Mentor informed the student that they would not approve an exam retake until they completed every activity in the courseThe student record provides evidence they were not prepared to pass the exam in the prior term during the summer, and they were only later prepared to pass the exam after completing the study materials provided by the Course MentorThis history confirms the validity of the exam approval processThere was no deviation from WGU’s standard exam approval process, as administered by the Student Mentor and Course Mentors.Students are charged a $retake fee for third and subsequent attempts at proctored assessmentsNoting that financial aid does not cover retake fees, and although there was no WGU service lapse, the university will waive the retake fee that was assessedThe fee will be reimbursed on the student account in a few business days.As always, WGU wishes the student the very best in their academic endeavors

As previously noted, FERPA regulations prohibit the release of details necessary to provide specific rebuttals to the allegationsHowever, WGU reaffirms that the description of the events in the complaint is incomplete and inaccurateNevertheless, the student’s request for review by appeal was honored by the RegistrarAs stated, readmission is not guaranteed and can be denied for any of the reasons formerly outlined, and is determined according to readmission standards (see Readmission Following Withdrawal)The WGU Teachers College has a high expectation for the demonstrated ethics and behaviors as outlined in the ‘Teachers College Code of Ethics, Professional Behaviors and Dispositions‘ found in the Student HandbookUnfortunately, the decision not to readmit this student into a teaching licensure program is considered final, and upheld by the Associate Provost for Academic Services per WGU policy.Given the outcome and particular circumstances, WGU will waive and refund the $Readmission Fee previously submittedPlease allow 5-business days for processingIn addition, WGU continues to promote that the student is eligible for readmission to other non-licensure programsThe university will gladly assist with the process if the student wishes to submit another application for readmissionNote that students who are requesting re-entry into the university will return with the Satisfactory Academic Progress status calculated at the time of withdrawal

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is some what satisfactory to me.They did finally make contact with me, but it took for me to file complaint in order to hear from them Needless to say I will not be having them back to finish I beleive when a customer calls you , it shouldn't take weeks to get back to them
