Review: I called this company to ask about the Canon XA20 to make sure it had everything that was in its description for the price listed. When I was transferred to someone I was told that the description (also a pic) was not at the price listed. (An advertisement misrepresenting a product) He told me that it would be $1,999 for that one and said it can only be bought over the phone. He then asked if I wanted to make the order. When I said no I need to look around 1st he said " I didn't think so have a nice day and hung up on me". I returned the call and told him I think that was very rude and he just replied " well I don't".

Here is a link to the add. [redacted] In the description it says "The Canon XA20 professional camcorder features a removable handle with audio inputs and controls". At the price listed it does not come with the removable handle as seen in the pic.

So I have to complaint with this company now: An advertisement misrepresenting a product and inappropriate behavior by customer service personnelDesired Settlement: Change the description for the Canon XA20 on the site and an employee customer service training program.

Hello, I do not feel the complaint was resolved. I have not talked to anyone from the company and there website is still the same. The only was I will feel OK with resolving this issue is a gift card or a simple email apology from the company. Just something to show that they do care about there customer service.

Review: I ordered a camera off their online site and due to a billing error they contacted me about my billing address. After the billing address was completed and confirmed they then called and told me I was missing a vital piece of the camera and that I had to buy it or the camera would not work. I then spoke with family members who have the same camera and called Nikon and they both said there is no special memory card needed for the camera to work that as long as I had a memory card it would work fine. So, this company lied about needing the memory card, resulting in an additional, not to mention unnecessary, $100 charge.Desired Settlement: I would like them not send the memory card and re-credit my credit card with the $100 I was forced to spend.

Review: I purchased a Canon 7D Mark ii from their website. The next day, I received a call from them saying that I ordered the international version, and that the US version is $220 more. I told them that nowhere on their site or the product page does it mention that the product is the international version. They told me that it needs to say US Version for it to be the US Version. However, they don't even have a Canon 7D Mark ii on their website other than the one I purchased. It's a complete bait and switch! They were even advertising the 7D Mark ii as a featured item on their site. Very bad business practice!Desired Settlement: Indicate that the Canon 7D Mark ii on your site is the INTERNATIONAL VERSION. Same goes for any other camera that you sell.

I received product but was the incorrect color as ordered and confirmed. As of this date, they have failed to provide the product as ordered. Additionally, they will not provide shipping reimbursements (per their website), even though they provided an incorrect product.

As of this writing, 42nd St Photo has received the incorrect merchandise (November [redacted]) and has not issued a 'full refund' (no refund to my Credit Card as I just checked).

In fact, when they issued the "RMA' (RETURN MERCHANDISE AUTHORIZATION), THEY STATED IN WRITING: "RETURN CREDIT WILL BE ISSUED PER OUR STORE POLICY LISTED ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR INVOICE AND ON OUR WEBSITE. USE OF THIS RMA NUMBER CONFIRMS THAT YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS OF OUR STORE POLICY".

Their store policy is ANY merchandise returned for any-reason was to be subject to a 20% restocking fee. When I spoke to their customer service representative, he said "their store policy is their store policy and he cannot authorize anything else".

Review: I researched prices for a Canon EOS 70D Camera Body. 42nd St. Camera had everyone beat by 20%, so I purchased the camera for my daughter. I got a call the next day telling me I had ordered the "European Version," and that the American Version was, you guessed it, over $200.00, now making 42nd St. Photo the highest price for this camera. As I needed it by Christmas, I had to fork over the extra money. I went back to the description on the 42nd St. Photo website and it said nothing about it being the European Version. I then called Canon USA. I found out that 42nd St. Photo is not even an authorized Canon dealer. The representative for Canon told me to immediately cancel the order. I called 42nd St. Photo back 90 minutes after the bait and switch, and was told the order had already shipped. Evidently the [redacted] truck was parked outside with the motor running. The representative from 42nd St. Photo could not have been more rude and unprofessional. Now I know why the Revdex.com gives them an F rating. Avoid this unethical company at all costs, or it will most certainly cost you.Desired Settlement: I want my money back and an apology from the owner of the business. I will return the equipment.

Today at 5PM, received a call from a [redacted] who preceded to upsell me items using outright erroneous information. Review: I bought a camera from 42nd Street photo, and now I would like to return it but they are charging me a 20% restocking fee (not even Canon, the maker of the camera charges this). I want to return this camera because they scammed me. I found out from Canon that they are not an authorized dealer and the camera does not come from their reps like they stated, but instead is an illegal grey market product. They initially upped the cost of my camera because they said the one I originally purchased from them was grey market and if I wanted the USA version I would have to pay more. I want my money back, and would ideally like to see an investigation into this company because I know I am not the first customer they have scammed. They charged me for a product that they are falsely advertising and it is appalling.Desired Settlement: Full refund of money.

Sincerely,

Review: I ordered a camera body from 42nd Street Photo and the advertised price on their website was $299, we also ordered an extra battery. I received a phone call a few days later from a gentleman at the company and he wanted to know if I wanted to have to sign for it or if I wanted UPS to leave it. Then as an after thought he told me I had ordered the import model that generally ships overseas and wanted to know if I wanted it swapped out for a US model. Of course I said yes, please swap it for the US model. I then asked if the price was the same and he said no the US model was $399. I went ahead and approved it so I could get my camera on it's way to me. Once I had a chance I got back on their website and no where does it say the $299 is an import model - then I started looking at other packages they offered for this exact camera and there was a camera and lens for $399. So I thought well, maybe I will get the lens too. Once my camera arrived, it was in a Cannon box and had everything it was supposed to ex. battery, strap, charger, cord, etc., and it was just the camera body. So I called him and told him it was not listed as an import model and the only one on the website for $399 was the one with a lens; he says it is an import model as well. I fell this was a bait-n-switch tactic and have since contacted the company 2-3 times with no solution.Desired Settlement: I would like to get my $100 refunded to me.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved. I talked with Jonathan and he offered me a $50.00 refund and a camera case. I am still not happy with the fact that he doesn't see the problem with their website not stating import model or anything, he simply did it to make me resolve this issue. When we were about to end our conversation he told me to be sure to go on here and note that it has been resolved. They are still frauds!!!

Sincerely,

I responded to an online ad for a Sony camera lens which normally sells for $1,349. The ad listed the selling price at $1,179. (This ad is still running). The day after I placed my order, I was called by someone from 42nd Street Photo and told that the lens I had ordered was a "European model" and did not carry a US Warranty. No where in their ad does this state the lens is a "European Model." The caller said could not honor the $1,179 price, but would sell it to me for $1,249.99, if I wanted the US Warranty. This is classic, bald-faced bait and switch.

Review: I purchased a camera from this site and the next day a rep calls me to verify everything and was like "is there a reason you chose the import model? and I said, I didnt know there was an import model and he said, "yeah you chose that one, it doesnt have all the actual parts from the manufacturer. Itd be $200 more for the other, I said no way. and he said, ill do it for $100). So being at work, I said ok, if I chose the wrong product, then I guess I need the right one. I get on break 10 minutes later, go to my confirmation email and the website and nowhere does it say I was buying an import model. So I call to cancel the order and the representative tells me they cannot cancel it, that it was already shipped. There was no way it shipped within the ten minutes that passed. The representative was rude and when I told him that it was a scam, his reply was "well, if thats how you see it." I said nowhere does it say im buying an import model, and he says "yeah, we dont disclose that on the site." SCAM! The rep refused to cancel my order, saying it shipped. I pull up the tracking and it showed it was not being shipped till the [redacted] and today is the [redacted]. All I wanted to do was cancel and he refused. Told me I could return it once I got it, but have to pay a 20% stocking fee. This is a scam and [redacted] was sketchy as can be!Desired Settlement: I want my order discounted SEVERLY or I want my money refunded in FULL! If not, I would like to see these gentleman in court! worst business experience of my life.

Review: This product is said to be "brand new" at the 42nd Street Photo website: [redacted]

After placing the order, I was called and told that this was actually a "Demo model" so I should buy a warranty, which I did. When the camera arrived, it had no original packaging, the wrong manual, no camera strap (which was supposed to be included), generic brand battery, charger, and cables, and scratches on the bottom of the camera.

When calling about the issue, they refused to allow me to return for a full refund, but instead said I could exchange for a camera in better condition.

Since the advertising says "Condition: Brand New," this is a bait-and-switch. The cost of the same camera used through [redacted], [redacted], or [redacted] is $1200-$1300, so I would like to be allowed to return for a full refund or refunded the difference (I paid $2000, so should be refunded at least $700).Desired Settlement: A refund for the difference between what I paid and what a used camera would cost, since I was send a camera in used condition, not new.

A refund to my card of $700 is desired. Thank you.

Response:

Full Refund has been given ($700.00 disputed amount)

Review: Like many others here, I ordered a lens — the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 M. Zuiko ED Pro. Their website listed it at $759 which is a good price for USA version of the lens. I assumed it is the USA version because the company is based in USA and it doesn't say on their website that the product is an international version.

Anyhow, the day after the order went through, a guy calls me saying that it's the international version of the lens, and I could get the USA version for $849. I said I didn't need to get it from them, it's on other reputable stores for $849 and the international version is available online for around $700, and that I only bought theirs because I thought it was the USA version. I told him I would call back in 10-15 minutes after checking more options online.

After that he noticeably sounded more flustered and aggressive, saying that I had to decide soon because he's about to ship it out, and then offered $20 off for the USA version (so it would be $829). (These assertive, manipulative tactics are also noted in many other online reviews.) That's actually not a bad price for the USA version, so I agreed.

Big mistake. As you can see from the reviews on here and other websites, so many people have fallen for this bait and switch tactic.

I just opened the package a few hours ago to find ZERO indication that it is the USA version or even if it is new!

The lens got shipped in a generic white box. There was no Olympus manual, no Olympus warranty card, actually, nothing "Olympus" at all, except for the lens. The main reason you would buy a USA version in the first place is to actually get all of this stuff.

After opening the box, inside is a lens bag, which totally looked used with specks of dust and lint on it. Inside the lens bag was the a lens wrap, which also didn't look new — incredibly wrinkled.

Now this is most ridiculous part — inside the lens wrap, I took the lens out — and the darn lens caps ON BOTH SIDES weren't even secured to it! Not only is that NOT new, that could damage the lens during shipping! And of course, after looking carefully at the lens itself, I could find specks of dust on it. Obviously not new.

As noted in many other reviews, they try to scam you by charging a 20% restocking fee. There's no way I'm going to be paying for that because they sent me a falsely advertised item and are clearly an unethical business.

Based on other people's reviews online, the only way you'll get this kind of full refund is to complain on websites like this one and others. Some people have gotten it by filing disputes with their credit card companies. I plan to do all of the above and possibly more.Desired Settlement: 1. Discontinue false advertising and bait-and-switch tactics — Be honest about what it is your are selling. There are dozens of reviews online that describe your pattern of using these tactics. The numerous amount of people you are scamming with this qualifies as reason for a class action lawsuit.

2. Discontinue high-pressure sales tactics that revolve around deceit, manipulation, and intimidation — You're only doing this to get people to buy into your scam. There are also dozens of reviews online that describe your pattern of using these tactics. This also qualifies as reason for a class action lawsuit.

3. Full refund within the next two weeks. This means the entire price of the falsely advertised product ($824.99), the 3-day shipping to get it ($24.98), and however much it costs for them to send me a prepaid courier box to send the return back (probably $10-20). I won't accept anything less and will otherwise pursue conversations with law firms to evaluate options for a class-action lawsuit.

Sincerely,

Review: I recently purchased a camera online from 42nd Street Photo for our dealerships, hoping to make an investment that would allow us to make high quality videos for our customers. Everything seemed great when I purchased it. The price was extremely low for a Panasonic AG-HPX170 camera labeled "Brand New", and the accessory package was reasonably priced as well. But things started to seem too good to be true within two hours of purchasing the camera online, when my son (who put together the order) got a call from [redacted], one of the sales reps. He started hitting him up for warranties and extra accessories that I hadn't ordered. He said "You need a warranty from this company, because Panasonic doesn't cover demo Camera's". A red flag went off, and he asked what he meant by "demo camera", when I was under the impression that I was buying a camera labeled "Brand New". He explained that it was a brand new camera in mint condition, but that it had been in a case, on display, and never used. Because the price was so low, I didn’t mind if it had only been taken out of the box to be put on display, and then returned with everything in it. Four days later, I received my order, and was completely shocked. I received a used camera with noticeable wear and tear. There were scratches in multiple spots along the body's surface, the mic mount had been eroding from calcium decay, the leather strap handle was worn out, all the lettering and labeling on the camera was fading, and the eye sight was so loose, it looked as if it was hanging on by a thread. The camera didn't even come in a box with all of its extra parts and wiring, but instead came in a case I ordered (which was also worn out and looked used), with off name brand batteries, chargers, and accessories. I had my son, who had put together the order, call in and try to resolve the issue. [redacted], the sales rep, gave him the run around and refused to do anything about the issue. Instead, he made my son feel like the bad guy, saying that he was insulted that we would ever insinuate that he had scammed us. Finally, I got on the phone, and experienced exactly what my son had experienced minutes earlier. [redacted] refused to give us a full refund, and instead said he was going to charge us a 20% restocking fee ($800) if we decided to send it back. There was nothing we could do, which is what brought us to this point. Thankfully we had printed off the page the camera was posted on before they had time to change any details, as well as the receipt they emailed us. However, a it stands, we haven’t been able to get 42nd Street Photo to give us a refund, or to even exchange the Camera. We are hoping the Revdex.com will be able to helpDesired Settlement: We would like a full refund with no additional charge, or a NEW camera as an exchange.

Review: Hello,

I recently purchased a Sigma 24mm f/1.4 for Canon lens from this store. Several hours after my order was placed, I received a phone call from a representative from this store, stating that the lens I purchased was "international" and did not come with a Sigma warranty, and asking if I would like to purchase one separately. The representative also noted that the item had not shipped yet, and was shipping out later than intended despite my paying for [redacted] 2 day AM shipping. It sounded fishy, but the rep caught me at a bad time and in an effort to end the conversation quickly I agreed to move forward with the order.

When I was able to call the store back about an hour later, I informed them that I would like to simply cancel the order. The representative I spoke to said it had already shipped. When I expressed surprise at that and explained I was told that I thought there would have been a delay with shipping, he was atrociously rude, and told me that I was never informed of that. He then proceeded to ask why I wanted to cancel the order. I explained that at this point, I was unhappy with their customer service, and would prefer to buy a real Sigma lens with a sigma warranty from a reputable retailer. He became even more rude, and proceeded to ask me why, if I wanted the warranty, I didn't just purchase the lens that "came with" the warranty, instead of the one that didn't. (It is not listed anywhere on their website, or on the item's page that the item does not come with a warranty, nor that there is an option to purchase the item with one. (In the industry, this is very abnormal and shady. I've never heard of such a thing, and upon looking at the reviews for this company from several sources, I've learned the same "bait and switch" scam has been preformed on countless other unfortunate customers.)

At this point, I told him I just no longer wanted the item and wanted to know what my options were. He informed me that the package could not be intercepted, but that they have a 10 day return policy. I know that their return policy requires that I, the customer, pay a 20% restocking fee. Because I couldn't get any help canceling the order from this abrasive, rude associate of 42nd street photo, I opted to thank him for his time and hang up the phone.Desired Settlement: I simply do not want this lens, I want the package intercepted, and at the very least, I want to return the item for a full refund without paying a restocking fee. However, I know that I won't be able to achieve that on my own without your help. Thank you in advance, so much, for your time--I hope that you can help me.

Great product! Works well and high quality.

I was very pleased with the service I received from 42nd Street Photo. Review: I on-line purchased a a digital camera (Leica x2 ) at $1872 from 42nd Street Photo on 8/**/2013. Two days later, I got a phone call from them, saying that "why you are ordering the international version instead of US version of this good camera". I asked the caller what the difference between these two versions and why it wasn't specified in their advertisement. The caller kept emphasize that US version is much better and cost more at $2195. I told him that I would like to cancel the order because of their false advertisement of misleading. The caller said that it is too late to cancel and heavy penalty will be imposed..etc. Then he offered $2100 for compromise. I mistakenly took it without thinking. Right after I hung up the phone, I realized that it is a scam. There could not be any US version at all. I called [redacted] office and confirmed that. 10 minutes later, I noticed that 42nd Street Photo has already shipped the camera and charged extra $228 ($2100-$1872) to my Paypal account. By checking 42nd Street Photo in Internet (which I should have done earlier) I found a lot of complaints against them. I have been waiting the arrival of the shipment before I take some actions. I received the product today.
