Review: I ordered by phone a Nikon D810 along with a 700 -200 nikon ii lens. I also had a camera bag included and a US warranty for both the camera and the lens. The order was placed at around 1 p.m on 12/**/15. Ralphie took my order. Later that night I saw that they are not a Authorized Nikon dealer. I called them on 12/**/15 at 9 a.m to cancel my order. I was transferred to Ralphie ' extension and told he would not be in until 10:30. I was not given a chance to tell the person I spoke to, to cancel my order. I left a voice mail for Ralphie that I wanted to cancel my order. I then called back to have someone help with cancelling my order. No one would listen. They kept abruptly just transferring me even as I asked not to be transferred. I asked for a manager and was told they were busy with orders. I told them I would wait and they hung up on me. This was several times. When Ralfie called me back at 11 a.m on 12/**/15 he told me he would take care of me and send me an extra battery with a hand grip. I asked why they were not and authorized Nikon dealer and how they got their cameras for sale. He said to take his advice and buy it. It was an authentic Nikon product. I told him their service was horrible and I wanted to cancel my order. He said I HAD to accept the camera and then call him back so he could email me a way to send it back to him. I told him I wanted to cancel my order placed not even 24 hours ago and would not accept the package. As he was on the phone [redacted] was delivering the package. I live 2 hours from them. I told him to give the info to the driver so he could send it back. I would not accept or take possession of the box. That I had canceled delivery with [redacted] already. I told him he could not force me to buy it. He yelled at me and said he was done trying to be nice to me. That what I was doing was not fair. I had no right to waste his time. That I would have to fight it out with the credit card company and he hung up on me.Desired Settlement: Refund my credit cards the full amount for the cancelled order. The charges are still pending, but Ralphie would not cancel my order and hung up on me.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: This company incorrectly lists prices on their website which are "grey market" prices and non-US pricing. This is false advertising and they should be reprimanded in some way. My story is not unique. This has happened with several online orders with several other people. They should not be allowed to advertise a price online that does not accurately represent what they are selling. I also paid for next day shipping ($90.00) for this product (on a Tuesday) and will not be getting the item until that Friday. Their customer service is also anything but helpful.Desired Settlement: At minimum, I should receive a refund for the amount I spent on shipping and I personally believe this company should be fined for false advertising and required to issue a formal public apology.

Review: I bought a Polaroid camera for a surprise birthday party that I was hosting and the purchase total (with film) came out to close to $200.00. The representative who sold me the camera was assured me that it was the best Polaroid I could purchase. Moral of the story, it did not work!! Not even to take one picture. The flash never dispatched... I had purchased all the props needed to stay in-theme and promised the guests who were attending the party Polaroid pictures they would be able to take as a keepsake. So you can imagine my disappointment when I flew to [redacted] and the camera was a total piece of junk-- bear in mind, I was EXTRA careful at airport security and the x-ray machines, and even asked the security personnel to please check the films/camera by hand to avoid any interaction with the radiation, etc. -- When I returned to New York, I kindly went into the store and told the manager what had happened, and he simply said "[redacted]." At that point, I nearly lost my mind and replied back explaining that when you sell a product you stand by it... and they assured me that the camera was in perfect condition and ready to use when they sold it, when clearly that wasn't the case. He tried to exchange it for the same camera. Now, WHY ON EARTH would I buy the same camera if the first one didn't work and "[redacted]." This store is a joke. The customer service is absolutely horrendous. They are nothing more than a gypsy store selling broken goods to tourists who don't know any better. Had I not been pressed for time with planning this party, I would've done my research and realized that this store and everyone who works there are SCAM ARTISTS. They should be shut down!Desired Settlement: I filed a dispute with my credit card company and left the BROKEN camera and ALL the film at the store. I even let the store manager know that I was filing a dispute and a complain with Revdex.com.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I refuse to continue this pointless chat. I have the conversation on record from when I went in to the store, and specifically have proof that the representative agreed that the camera was broken. I will call the VP of Sales to suggest that perhaps he should take a look at all the complaints that this store has online, as well as all the reports with the Revdex.com. Side note: When you type in the name of this store on [redacted], the search bar automatically adds the word "scam" to the end of the search.

In order for the Revdex.com to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

Review: I visited the business stated on ** May during a visit to the USA. I asked for a hood to fit my wide angled Canon lens which a salesman produced. He then said that I would need a polarizing filter. Without being asked he produced one and fitted it to my lens. I asked "how much" and he wrote something indecipherable on a scrap of paper. I said that I would just take the hood. He then spoke to an elderly man who was seated further down the store. He said it would be cheaper and asked me for my card. I said I didnt want the filter but it was fitted and he was disinclined to remove it. I was given the impression that it would be circa $60 so I signed the slip. The ink in the card reader was so faint that it cannot be read. I have just returned from my trip across the states and found my Mastercard statement. He actually charged me $220 which I certainly did not agree to. I am trying to contact Mastercard to see if anything can be done from this end. This type of selling is well known in the UK and I am old enough to know better. However, I was prepared to accept a small 'hike' in the price but not a massive fraud of this nature. I have checked the retail price of this filter since I came home and found it can be purchased for £20. It is Bower Pro dHD 77mm PL.Desired Settlement: I realize that time has passed but this is the first opportunity I have had to check my records and the retail price. My copy of the sales check is so faint that I cannot read it. I would appreciate a refund if that is possible. My main objective is to draw your attention to this ales technique that does little for your wonderful city. I did not want a filter or agree to purchase one. He fitted it without my approval and more or less said that's it - finished. Many thanks for providing the service and a vehicle for voicing my disapproval.

Sincerely,

I am very happy with the service that I received from 42nd St Photo. They were courtesy and friendly. Even called to make sure we ordered the correct lens.

Their website was informative and easy to navigate. I had questions and the phone sales associate was knowledgeable and helpful. Their pricing was very good for the mid-high camera/lens products I purchased. Delivery was as promised and there are no problems with the products.

42nd Street is knowledgeable about all photography products, honest and reliable. Excellent vendor able to offer the lowest prices.

Review: Purchased a [redacted] 16-300 Lens from them on line on 7/*/2015. The day before shipping a rep. who introduced himself as Robert asked me if I want an extended warranty from the store, but 30-day store warranty is included in my price. I asked him if he sold me a refurbished or counterfeit lens. He said "No, of course not! It's brand new." Then I told him that the lens should have a manufacture warranty, and he confirmed that it has 5 Yrs. Warranty from [redacted]. I received it on 7/**/2015, and decided to register my warranty with [redacted] USA . I've been advised that the serial number I got with my new lens doesn't exist. When I've purchased my lens on line, it didn't say Counterfeit, Gray Market, Refurbished or not for sale in USA. it was advertised as a brand new, not a Grey market!Desired Settlement: Date Sent: 7/**/2015 2:29:41 PMI would like to get a full refund plus the shipping cost.

Review: Review: I ordered the Sony DSC-RX 100 II 20.2 Megapixel Digital Camera online through the website. The day after I put in the order, I got a phone call from [redacted] named [redacted] who asked me why I did not order a memory card. I was told that the camera will not work properly without this special memory card. It was supposed to be necessary to unlock the camera's high definition features. I was ordering the camera as a gift for my son and I certainly did not want a gift that did not work properly so I went ahead and ordered the memory card. He threw in a camera case for free to clinch the deal. When my son received the camera he asked me why I ordered a memory card - he said he had one already and it didn't have to be the type I was sold. He also said the case was useless to him as he wanted a better quality one that would protect the camera. I felt gypped and wrote a feedback to the company to register my complaint, but the response was curt and not even courteous When I called about returning the memory card they said I have to return the camera as well. I was told the memory card was a promotion with the free carrying case (supposedly valued at $75) so they will not accept a return or exchange. But this is a plain lie. First of all I was never told the memory card was a promotion -- [redacted] said it was an essential part of the camera I ordered. Secondly, the camera case was added based on my request, not a part of a promotion. Thirdly, there is no way that camera case costs $75. I'd be surprised if it costs more than $10. The telephone responder's final word was, actually the [redacted] was not lying. Pictures in a different card will be deleted as you take pictures if the card is too slow. Does this even make sense? I don't think these people should be able to lie to customers without any consequence!Desired Settlement: I want to return the memory card and the camera case for a full refund of $99. I can hand deliver the stuff at the NYC store.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a lens online and received an email to contact 42nd street photo by phone. When I did I was told that I hadn't selected a warranty for the product. I said I hadn't because I assumed it came with the manufacturers warranty. I was told it was essentially a gray market product with no warranty. I told Jack I wanted my money back. He told me that he could get me the US model for 1049.00 to which I agreed to do that. When I received the lens I checked with the manufacturer and was told that this lens was not a US model but was, in fact, gray market with no manufacturers warranty. I did not get what I agreed to pay for. Now I want to return the lens and get my money back but they say I must pay a 20% restocking fee which I was not told of prior to the sale and that can only be paid with a money order. Clearly designed to make the return process so tough that everyone would avoid doing that.Desired Settlement: I was deceived with this purchase and the return policy was not disclosed at the time of the sale. I think this is a disreputable business as no reputable establishment would operate like this. I want a full refund without paying the 20% because I was deceived by this business.

Review: 42nd Street Photo advertised a Sigma 17-50 lens for a Canon camera for $429.00. I placed my order on line and received a phone message from [redacted] that I needed to call him about my order. I called him from the road and he informed me that the advertised lens was for a foreign made camera and it wouldn't fit one made in the U.S. He assured that it was stated right on the ad and that I probably didn't see it. He then told me that he could send me the right lens for $529. When I said that I couldn't do it, he put me on hold to "speak to a [redacted]". When he came back he stated that I could get it for $489. I told him fine and that I would check the ad when I got home. When I got home I re read the ad and did not find any mention that the $429 price was for a different lens. I called [redacted] again and he admitted that it was the same lens. The difference was that the $429 price did not include a warranty. I told him that since I had been lied to I wanted to cancel the order. [redacted] then told me that it was too late because it had been shipped. I thought of returning the item but their restocking fee is 20%. I am a totally disabled veteran who lives on a fixed income.Desired Settlement: I would like 42nd Street Photo to refund the difference between the $489 and the advertised price of $429 plus the additional tax. Also, get the cleaning kit that was not included as advertised and an instructional manual.

Sincerely,

Review: I ordered a Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC USD Canon Mount AFA007C-700 (Model A007E) lens on the 42photo website on 7/**/2015 for $849.

On 7/** I got a call from a rep, [redacted], who convinced me skillfully that the lens is crap and got me to agree to get a Canon L lens instead (that is more expensive). I called *20 minutes later* to say I want my original order and NOT the Canon lens but he told me he already rushed it to [redacted] and it shipped out after having packed it himself. This was on a Tuesday morning before noon. [redacted] assured me that if I do not like it I can easily exchange it to the original Tamron I wanted, and asked me to call him when I received it to let him know what I thought.

The following day 7/** at 5pm(!) I got a notice from [redacted] that a label had been printed, realizing that he had lied to me about the package having shipped out on Tuesday morning. I received the lens on 7/** and called requesting my original order, I am told there is a 20% restocking fee, although on the phone he told me I would have no problem exchanging if I wish to do so.

The Canon lens I received is also a grey market, non warrantied model!!!

When speaking to the rep [redacted] today, he told me that the original Tamron lens I ordered is an international import with no warranty - nowhere on their website is this mentioned!! For a warrantied US lens, I would have to pay $1,299 (the price showing as "original" on the listing - see here [redacted]) - the call went on for him to explain to me how they do not have to include a warranty unless on the listing it specifically mentions that a warranty is included. I have purchased tens of thousands of dollars in photography equipment over the past few years and I have never seen the warranty explicitly listed on a brand new product, it is always included!!! In fact, grey-market or imported products specifically list in the listing NO WARRANTY.

I find this deceitful, fraudulent and bait & switch in an extreme fashion, simply aimed at tricking customers and stealing from them. I would like to return the canon lens and receive a full refund for it, and take my business elsewhere. I have been purchasing photography equipment for many years and have never seen anything like this before. Simply outrageous.Desired Settlement: I would like to receive a FULL REFUND including SHIPPING for the grey-market Canon lens I DID NOT WANT.

Review: I ordered a Sony camera on Dec [redacted]. I received a confirmation email. I got a call on the night of the [redacted] from a man at the company explaining that they had only 1 camera in stock. Unfortunately for me, to get the camera, I had to buy a "bundle" that was $700 more. The bundle included a camera bad and a memory card. I explained that I don't need either. he then said he could switch out the bundle if I bought a warranty but he would need permission from his manager. I told him I didn't need a warranty. He cancelled my order because I would not buy the additional $700 in unneeded items. he also explained that this camera is sold out everywhere, which it is. I told him I felt scammed. Not a very nice way to treat customers.Desired Settlement: I would have liked my order shipped in the 24-48 hour timeframe the site said it would. Given this is an Christmas present, that won't happen and I don't trust waiting on an order from them. Therefore, I would like the owners to acknowledge this type of business practice is not ethical.

Sincerely,

Review: I'm the victim of a bait-and-switch scam. I ordered a camera and lens online from "42nd Street Photo" in New York. Unfortunately, the items I ordered – and paid for – were not the ones I received. I explicitly ordered the USA version of both items, including a 1-year manufacturers warranty. Both items arrived without a warranty, bearing model numbers that are not USA model numbers.

I've tried to resolve the problem with the merchant, but they refuse to acknowledge that they switched products. They will not allow me to return the shipment without paying a $400 "restocking" fee.Desired Settlement: I simply want to return the items (which are not what I ordered) for a full refund. I do not want to pay the merchant a $400 fee to correct their own mistake.

Sincerely,

Review: I purchased a camera lens on-line in September 2015. The advertised price was $1,929 (which is still the price on their web site today). Within a couple of days of ordering, someone from the shop called and said I needed the "US Version" of the lens, which was $2,299.99. I was suspicious but he insisted it was still "a great price" and pushed me to go ahead and order it, so I said it was ok to go ahead, even though it was more than I wanted to spend. But I didn't understand why, if the store is in the US, they wouldn't advertise prices for the US versions on their web site ??? I now want to return the lens, it has not been used and is still in the box. I called them today and they said there is absolutely nothing I can do, it's too late, even for a merchandise credit. I then did some research on line, and find that the "you need the US version" (which always costs more) seems to be a scam they have caught many people with. See Consumer Reports web site, and other review sites. I would like them to take back the lens, and give me a full refund. I am willing to take this to whatever level necessary to resolve this as this is clearly a disreputable business. Thank you.Desired Settlement: I want to return the product and get a full refund.

Sincerely,

Review: I've been in New York for ** to ** September and willing to buy a kit consisting of a Canon 70D camera and 18-135mm lens wich is sold at most retailers for US$ 1,549 + taxes. A kit advertised on the website of 42nd Street Photo caught my attention because it was ofered for little less than US$ 1,500.

Arriving at the store, the seller told me that the camera sold online was different, made in Malasya and only had a Japanese menu and was sold with no warranty. This information is not present on their site or anywhere else. He told me that if I wanted a camera with multilingual support, I would have to buy the "made in the USA" model and which would cost much more - about US$ 1,600 for it. As I did not have much options (I was for a short time in Manhattan), I decided to buy the camera, even paying more than that offered in other retaileres.

Upon arriving at my hotel, I found out that the lens was not the same as sold in the oficial kit from Canon, but a lower and cheaper lens. So I had to go back to the store to complain about the lens and they told me that if I wanted the same kit lens from the oficial Kit, I would have to pay $ 50.00 more, because they could not refund my money. Even feeling completely cheated, I had to accept because the lens they gave me would not be useful for my job and I did not have much time left.

Searching on the internet, I found that they deceived other customers with this practice, and seens that no one is doing something about it.

Ps. I apologise for my poor english skills.Desired Settlement: For me the only acceptable outcoome would be a partial refund, as I'm still with the camera and can't return it. The refund would be the diference from the price that I payed (about US$ 1,600 for the Camera Kit, plus the US$ 50,00 from the Lens) less th current advertised price on their website ($1,469.99), in a total of US$ 180,00. this can be in store credit as I don't think that they would return this to my credti card used in the purchase.

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me and the matter has been resolved.

Sincerely,

Review: My complaint is very similar to so many others I have seen against 42 Street Photo. I too have been victimized by their fraudulent and deceptive sales tactics, outright lies, deception by omission of the facts whereby they misrepresent a Nikon product on their web page.

I placed an order for a Nikon D750 and lens. The next business day I received a call asking why I did not order a memory card. The rep stated that that a special high speed card was required (at ~$340) for this camera to function; otherwise, I would get write errors, bad photos, etc. Additionally, he stated that the use of a polarizing filter outdoors and a neutral density filter indoors (at ~$430) was mandatory for this lens.

I thought I was dealing with an honest business and trusted his recommendation on both items. He then tried to sell me an extended warranty which I promptly refused. 20 minutes later after looking at the web site and seeing starter kits with filters and memory cards listed at a much lower price I called back to question his recommendations. I was told that it was too late to make any changes that the product was already sent to shipping and that those kits are not camera specific and a low quality, and that I had to get the 'special memory card'. I asked why those items are displayed with this camera; his response was "I don't design the web page" but assured me that I was "getting the exact same product that a competitor [redacted] sells at a savings"'.

I said I was going to do some research and contacted Nikon and the competitor. Both parties stated that there was no truth to the 'special memory card' or the 'mandatory filter' requirement. Outright lies on the part of 42 street photo.

I then inquired about warranty and was told all Nikon products for sale in the US have a 1 year warranty; anything else is a 'grey market' item not intended for US sale. Furthermore, they are not serviceable by Nikon USA, firmware updates would not be available, and the menus could be in a foreign language. I'd have to be an it to purchase such a product. Prior to this time I never knew that a 'grey market' camera existed. 42 street photo led me to believe that this was a genuine Nikon product; the competitor does not even list a grey market Nikon D750 package on their web site.

Upon learning of the deception I tried to call 42 street photo a couple of times letting the phone ring for minutes but never answered (Normal pick up by the 3rd ring). I have seen complaints on other consumer advocacy web sites by others having had the same experience, that 42 photo refuses to answer calls (caller ID) until the product has shipped. This experience and the [redacted] tracking info indicate that the 'too late to make any changes' was also a lie.

I emailed 42 photo on January 3 (they are closed on Saturday) that I was cancelling the order because of the deception and lies about what I was purchasing. They returned my call the next day and left a message to contact them.

When I called I was told that I could not cancel the order, I would be charged a 20% restocking fee, and that return authorization was required.

I stated my issues and said it is not a return, it is a refusal of a misrepresented product and falsely required accessories. I have notified [redacted] that I would not accept delivery. He immediately started talking over me, said he would not listen to anything I had to say, and called me a 'crazy person'.

At that point I stated I would look into the NY consumer protection laws and terminated the conversation.

I received a call from him about ten minutes later. He said 'we got off on a bad start' and did not want to go into dispute.

It would be his word against mine, and that 42 photo has a team of lawyers at their disposal and I would definitely lose.

I stated the best resolution would be for 42 photo to give me a complete refund and we go our separate ways. He said this was not possible.

He said that during our prior conversation that he used the wrong words, that it was meant to be a suggestion and he did not intend to mislead me.

From the other complaints I have read on the Revdex.com site and other sites I know that this too is also a lie.

He then emailed me an offer to upgrade my camera and lens to a full US model at no charge.

I interpret this offer to be an admission of guilt for trying to stick me with a 'grey market' product and items that are not required for this camera to function properly and for which I have no part numbers; thus unable to determine if they are indeed the high-priced items sold to me.

I have seen numerous complaints from others stating that 42 photo will substitute lesser quality items and used items in shipments and therefore I am reluctant to accept the upgrade offer or to have any more dealings with this company. Moreover, I have asked for a signed statement indicating that the person who emailed the 'upgrade' offer has the authority to issue such an offer and received no response. Response:

At this time, my complaint, ID [redacted] regarding 42nd Street Photo has been resolved. The company did not contact me but credited my credit card account the full amount.I think I was successful because:1.When I could not reach them after I realized I had been duped I immediately email them notification that I was cancelling the order.2. I refused to accept delivery of the shipment. By refusing delivery I was not subject to the restocking charge.

(By clicking "OK", your complaint will be closed as Resolved.)

Review: Ordered the wrong camera lens on accident. They have different mounts I was not aware of. When I called to return they kept passing me around to different voicemails for 4 days. Everytime I get someone on the phone they just put me on hold and pass the call along to someone who isn't ready for it. Then I finally got a guy I told him I wanted to exchange the lens and he told me the one I want that is listed on their website isn't in stock, although it clearly says it's in stock on the site. He informed me they have the "USA" version with the "metal mount" available for $300 more. This is not true, [redacted] does not make a lens without a metal mount. You can [redacted] bait and switch technique and this is textbook. It's almost embarrassing as I'm a professional photographer. I know a scam when I see one. No honest store talks down to their customers. Everyone on the phone was very rude and dodged every question. I simply want my money back and to take my business elsewhere. I tried to talk to several people in customer service but they won't return my calls. Horrible experience. I will spend a little extra money and go with a reputable retailer. Lesson learned.Desired Settlement: Just a refund. It's an unopened product. Any other retailer would offer this it's a VERY reasonable request. Most places don't even make you cover shipping with refunds. That would be ideal.

Review: I ordered a camera lens for a sale price of $119 per their website, was billing for that in addition to a filter that I didn't order and didn't need. Then my credit card was charged another $150 for the filter that wasn't needed. I received the order and the novice says to return it within ten days but must include a return number (not on invoice). After three phone calls to them, was informed I had to mail a money order for $60 to them to "restock" the items and then they would review to see if I could get a credit. He said I am stuck with it because I won't get the number before then ten days to return in up so I might as well take a $50 store credit and keep the order. These people are [redacted]!Desired Settlement: I want to return the order and have my credit card credited.

Review: Hello I spoke with a man on the phone from customer service dept. (42nd st photo) earlier this morning around 10am June *, 2015. He assured me I would receive an email with a return label for the product I bought and I would receive my full refund for the camera. I paid $649.00 for what the internet special 42 st. photo was offering a brand new Sony Nex 6 camera with a lens. I received a used camera of which I took pictures of all the deformities that point towards a used camera. It had white lint all over it like someone was desperately trying to clean it up, hairs caught underneath the screen when I lifted it up, smudge on the corners of the eye lens from skin oils, food crumbs in the bag the camera was placed in, scratch marks on the inside of the camera where the battery was placed in an out of there numerous times, the sticker on the bottom of the camera is worn from rubbing on its setting, the material handle it came with is faded an smells like cologne and the camera itself isn't even clear on focusing the lens. My phone camera has less megapixels an shows a better picture! A brand new camera should not be blurry on focus. When I told the man on the phone he said they only sell new products and I continued with there was not even a clear plastic sticker on the screen to peel off when you buy brand new electronics. All he could say was they don't do that no more! I received the camera on the night of June *, 2015 around 7pm. I opened the package that next day of Saturday June *, 2015 to discover the cameras disfunction's. I called the 42st photo store and the man said to call back Monday to speak with someone from the online ordering dept. since they are closed.

Today June *,2015 I called again twice after the first time this morning. I called the second time an hour later to ask when I will be receiving my return label an the man who answered the phone said it will take an hour. I said okay an waited a few hours. I called back again recently and asked why I haven't received my return/ shipping label. Someone was disguising their voice acting like he was transferring me to different people. I told him if we can't resolve this issue then I'm going to have to take it to the next step. He said to go ahead and do what I have to do. Finally another man answered the phone and I told him my issue an he told me I don't need to keep calling and there's no reason for it, but I was told in an hr a few hrs before that. He said don't call back an they'll send the label by the end of the day. I said what if that doesn't happen and he told me then to call back tomorrow. I shouldn't have to keep calling back if they already said they were going to take care of this problem. I feel like they're giving me the run around, they sold me a used product for what I ordered was supposed to be a brand new one, on their print out invoice paper says they've been in business for over 40 years an online it says they've been in business for over 50 years. They seem like they've been getting away with a lot of things for a long time and they're trying to get over on me too.Desired Settlement: I want to return this product for the price I paid and they shouldn't false advertise. Handle business in a respectful timely matter with all customers and fix the claims about who they are as a business.
