American Power and Gas, LLC Reviews (66)

I received a phone call from a telemarketer about switching to "green energy" for an additional fee. He made it sound as if all costomers were being forced to switch and it was only a formality that he was calling to inform me of the increased rate. When I questioned him, he began to get belligerent and irritated. The recording that he was forced to play by the government stated that it was an optional program.

When I called to complain about the salesman, the company said they would talk to the salesmans superior and proceeded to give me $0.13/kwt hr off for my next bill. This seemed strange to me because I was not calling to get a rebate. It seemed as if this happened all the time. This prompted an internet search and will ultimately lead me to cutting ties with the company.

I'm concerned that a less analytical citizen may be more easily persuaded by this technique.

Another strange thing that happened was that the salesman abruptly cut off the phone call and called back at the exact moment that I began to question his summery of the situation. This was in the middle of the required government review.

Something isn't right

LEASE don't sign up with this company. The first couple of months they were below the previous carrier by 2 cents. This month that were almost double my previous carrier. I have to pay an extra $125 this month because I chose to go with American Power. The rate for my previous carrier is 7.84 and their rate was 12.80 . That is a big difference!!! The sales person that sucked me into American claimed I should always be less than what my previous carrier charges. I realize he said "should be less" but he certainly made me feel like it was a good deal and it was presented to me in such a way that it would be to my benefit. This sales person gave me his phone number and extension however, it is no longer valid so I couldn't even speak to him. Please think twice before you sign up with this company !!!! I feel I was ripped off !

This company's sales rep gave me false information when I signed up with them. I was told that I was not locked in with First Energy, which I found out later that I was and would be charged $100 for early cancellation. I decided the savings to switch would cover this, so accepted the charge. The sales rep said the rate would be 6.5 cents and at the end of the year I would receive a 25% rebate on the charges. I was charged 6.5 cents for Feb. 2015, but in March the charge was 12.2 cents - nearly double! I called to cancel and the next partial month was charged 10.1 cents. What a rip off.
I recently received another sales call with the same spiel, only for 6.8 cents. I remembered to check old bills and found it was the same company. When I explained what happened the last time and refused to sign up, I was told I would be put on the Do Not Call list. We'll see if that happens.

We are running a food pantry in Pennsylvania and it is our startup business, were confused which company will be good as electric energy supplier. We opted American power and gag, it turned out to be a good decision, fair rates, and service delivery is as promised.

AP&G has called me nonstop for months claiming that they were calling on behalf of PSE&G. They finally admitted that they were not a part of PSE&G when they thought I was going to sign up with them. They are an energy scammer like many others.

American Power and Gas has switched our electric energy supplier fro another company chosen by us to themselves twice in the last two months. Both times we have sought reinstatement with our preferred supplied who offers distinctly better rates. We are a not-for-profit, all-volunteer food pantry in Bedford Pennsylvania and the cost differential and aggravation are material to us.

Be aware of American Power and Gas because there are lots of Ripoff Reports on this company. This is my case! I surely know the rate option is 'Variable' that means < subject to change based on market conditions >. This company offers electric rates of 7.60 per KWH as an introductory rate. The first month(Aug.14~Sep.21) was 7.60 and the second month(Sep.22~Oct.20) was 11.72 per KWH. Wow, 54% increase! I complained and finally changed to another company. I received my last bill and shocked. The rest of the third month(Oct.21~Oct.26) is 14.50 cents. Nearly 2 times of introductory rate. This is a big scam to get you signed up and then they hope you don't notice the higher rate. I signed up with another company (at 3 month guaranteed price of 7.75 per KWH). Stay away from this scam. The web site shows "current rates" with this scam. Do not be fooled. Your rate will be much higher the second month.

After a month I knew I had made the huge mistake of switching my energy company to American Power and Gas. I was happy with the supplemental Wind-powered company(In the NorthEast) I was using with ConEd. AP&G cold-called me and sold me on their lower energy costs. Wish I had just said, "No, thank you."
My bills shot up about 50%. I was shocked because I was using no more or less energy than before. And all this when energy costs were supposedly very low.
I knew something was wrong.
Don't use the number on your current bill to cancel. All you'll get is a constant Ad for some stupid cruise/vacation they want you to buy. Call the number above.
When I finally did get someone, I felt very uneasy with the customer service person I was talking to, so I just cancelled and got the heck out of there.
I was I had checked here on the Revdex.com site first.

APG did a sales call at our company, the promise of lower bills were enticing so we signed up for lower electric bills.

1. First month's bill was double our old amount, we called to complain and were told that we were in the wrong program we were entered in the green program and should have been in the brown program
2. APG also decided to switch our natural gas provider with out authorization

3. Second bill comes in that was double the first months bill, called to complain and were told that the first months supply rate was an introductory rate. We were now being billed at the ever changing supply rate.

If it sounds to good to be true it probably is

They tell you 25% rebate after 1 year. They doubled my rates and gave me back $22.00 that's it, not worth it.

After receiving these calls daily, I asked them to take our number of the call list and finally had to hang up on them. They wait a couple of months and call again and now have taken to calling our other departments. They also call from numbers that are not on the caller ID. I've told them repeatedly not to call here after seeing all the negative comments and reviews.

I would not give this company any business, it is horrible. First when we tried to cancel our electric service with this company they called repeatedly to get our business back despite being asked numerous times to stop calling. Then a few weeks later we received our final bill, our variable rate just happened to increase 250% over the previous month. Coincidence?

Company lied to me. Never deal with!!!

I had the same experience everyone has that goes with this company. They call you and give you a quote as the lowest cost distributor of electric. They tell you how much you will save by going with them. I asked point blank, will this rate stay this low. The rep told me they are variable but their rates are always lower than the fixed cost distributors. What she should have said was their introductory prices are always lower than the fixed cost distributors. So I watched the prices for the first few months and sure enough she was right. I stopped checking the price per kilowatt-hour after a few months. In my case about a year went by before they started to increase the rate. They now charge double what a fixed rate would be. They will come up with excuses as to why they have to charge so much but the truth is it has gone up between half a cent to a cent a kilowatt/hour every bill for the last 6 months. I would have canceled earlier but I figured it wasn't worth the hassle when I am moving in a couple weeks. I certainly won't be using APG in my next home. Lesson learned, NEVER use a variable rate electric distributor. They lure you in then take advantage of you.

EXTREMELY pushy sales person denied repeatedley that they are a third party supplier for or electric company. Others have claimed they double or triple their electric bill. Stay away!

Continuous, insistent calls. Our experience is similar to that of others. Our caller was Jill from APG XXX-XXX-XXXX [redacted] Insists the Exec. Dir. asked for the call, but he is completely unaware of the company.

I am an accounts manager and I switched all of our [redacted] and [redacted] accounts over to American Power & Gas of NJ after a lengthy explanation of how our rates would be lower than what we were currently paying. When I received the first bill, it was a supply rate of $407!! Plus [redacted]'s bill of $249. That's DOUBLE what we were paying with the old supplier. After speaking to them, nothing could be done. I'm cancelling their service but it will take 3 months. BUYER BEWARE!! Don't fall into their trap.

I have had fine experiences with American Power & Gas. We have been using them for a little over 2 years and they have been fair and serviced me well. All good to me.

This company has been calling about 20 times a day asking to speak to owner regarding their gas bill. they have been very rude and annoying to our staff. We have asked them to take us off their call list.

stay away from this company. they promised for lower rates than NYSEG and lower bill.. I only got one month saving then they doubled the rates compared to NYSEG. I have two accounts and for 3 months I paid $318 extra compared to NYSEG. customer service is good for nothing. advertising is good to trap people with low rates but reality is different.

top of this, when I canceled my accounts, they cant stop right away. I have to wait till one or two billing cycles. so another $100 - $200 rip off. stay way. stick with NYSEG..its better and less hassle.
