Review: I looked at Background Alert once briefly and expected a $1.00 charge. On my August bill which I received in September I was charged not only $1.00 but also a $29.99 charge for a monthly subscription. They automatically signed me up for a subscription I didn't want. I called Background Alert at the time I got the bill in September and requested the subscription be cancelled. They promised it would be cancelled. However when I recently received my September bill they again billed me for another $29.99. Their website states that when a person cancels the pending bill will be cancelled. However, I called them again today and they tell me my subscription is cancelled, but they can't do anything about the new charge. This is purely a racket. They have now charged me a total of $59.98 for something I did not request nor sign up for.Desired Settlement: Refund my money that they have taken with no authorization !

Response:

Totally pathetic. Forget all their hype - they can't even get the basics right. I was married 30 years; they have no record. Divorced for 15; no record. Voted for years; supposedly I'm not registered. They have my ex living in two states she's never set foot in. Three states for my son. My daughter has been married 10 years, has two kids; they say no marriages. She's an attorney licensed in 4 states; they say she has no professional licenses. And on and on. Don't waste a dime or a minute with this crew.

Review: I used Background Alert one day and they charged me 4 time on the same day. They didn't say anything that it would cost you an additional 19.95 for 'each' upgrade search. I was under the understanding that when you wanted to upgrade, it would be for the month, not individual searches. I had called and he was not being honest when I asked him, " you didn't say that anywhere it would cost an extra 19.95 for each search as an upgrade. He didn't respond but returned one of the payments. He basically stole 60.00 dollar4s of my money but retuned 19.95. I am not satisfied either because they provide nothing but a name, relatives, possible relatives, city and sate. You can get that for free on Intellius, People Search and other free people finders. Then, they bait you in for more money using the term 'upgrade this report' and they give you nothing else but what you already know from the first search. I believe that this company has accessed all the information on these free sights and then uses it to bait you in on a so-called 'upgrade' which give you nothing else or no more information. Also, they give an explanation that some states don't give this information out because of state policy. It's false advertisement out in front and then when you go into an upgrade, this is what happens. Also the webpage stalls or doesn't respond and then they tell you to recover webpage and then that's how they charge you again. Something needs to be done because I spent over 100.00 dollars and it was all misleading in the advertisement. I have my computer and the hard drive will not lie about anything I have mentioned. I would like to recover the other 60.00 dollars that I was duped out of, please. Thank you

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to have the other 60.00 dollars returned because it didn't give specifics anywhere that each upgrade would cost you 19.95 extra. Also the upgrade provided no other information that I already had from the initial purchase. These type of practices should be stopped because someone is going to get real upset at this company and it's not necessary for them to take other people's hard earned money while they line their pockets with false or misleading advertisement. They are not transparent at all.

Response:

Hi [redacted],

I am very sorry that you are not happy with our service. We are committed to customer satisfaction and we will be refunding you $60. Please be ware that you had called in on Aug 13th and we had issued you 25% off on all your charges. So I have issued another credit today for $39.25 to equal $60 total.

I would like to address some of you other concerns. Your unlimited monthly plan includes unlimited standard backgrounds. These reports includes criminal records, marriage/divorce, birth/death records, personal records. Address history, phone number lookup, license search, related person search and sex offenders in the area. This report satisfies the needs of the majority of our clients and by keeping the report to its essentials, it allows us to offer unlimited reports for a flat monthly fee. Keep in mind that most other sites charge $30 just for a statewide criminal report, we give you unlimited checks for a flat monthly fee. If you require more information on a user, you can upgrade any of the standard reports you pull to a premium report for $19.95. This is a comprehensive background report that most other sites charge anywhere between $60-80 per report and contains a lot more information.

I am sorry you are dissatisfied with our service. We strive to be the leaders in background check services on the internet and we are constantly improving our service. If there is anything else we can help you with, please do let me know.

The google search for this company states in bold font FREE TRIAL. after 20 minutes of looking for a free trial offered on their site I gave up and simply entered my search parameters. Then I was asked for 22dollars to process my search. When I went to the contact us site they refused to acknowledge my email as being valid. A lame attempt to put me off. Subsequently. my computer was locked up by a full page banner offering me a trial for one dollar. One dollar does not constitute free in my dictionary. I had to manually shut down and restart just to regain function on my device.

Response:

Review: Background alert provides private information about individuals for a fee, collecting said information from a variety of public records. They seem to require nothing more than the fee to disclose this information. Do they require identification from the person purchasing such information. They do not alert the subject of the information that information about them has been disseminated. In order to remove information about oneself from their database, they require additional documentation from the person wishing to be removed, thereby supplying Background alert with additional information. The contact individual, Mr. [redacted], so listed in your entry on Background alert, has no entry in his own database. This business is highly unethical, having two separate and different criteria for handling information.Desired Settlement: I want ALL information about me and my father removed from their database; others in my family can deal with this themselves. I want someone from Background alert to call me to ensure that each and every entry in their database concerning myself and my 90 year old father be removed. I will NOT supply them with additional information about myself. I will be contacting my state and federal reps about this.

Business

Response:

My account was closed/locked/shutdown and was treated as if I had broken the code of silence because I had run too many reports. This information was needed for my Family Tree and would have been extremely useful for marriages, divorces, etc. I didn't know most of the people but they are in my Tree and in order for it to be complete, this information was germane.

One would have thought I was gathering names for my moonshine business and from the way I was given the left foot of fellowship from their site, their Security Dept wanted me to feel that I had broken a great law of the land by using their site for the gathering of such.

Never was I told there was a limit as to the number of reports that could be run for the membership price and even though I was not aware that an extended search led to a more hefty fee over and above the annual (I think it was annual @ $19.95), I paid for the information that wasn't there and took this as a fact.

It didn't take them long to lock me out and when questioned as to why, was treated as if my hand was in the cookie jar. "Too many reports", they said and would not discuss it any longer. No response to my request for a refund.

Listen folks: Don't go there unless you want to be disappointed with information that isn't there and feel the fool because you believe in something that wasn't there either.

Review: I went into this site and as I was leaving it popped up trial offer for $1.00. So I did this not knowing I was going to be charged $29.99 a month. That was not made clear at all. Now I have 2 charges for this that I DID NOT AUTHORIZE!!!

Their site is very deceiving and is a scam. Enticing people in and ripping them of!

I want my money back.

Thank you, [redacted]Desired Settlement: They should refund the charges!!!!

Business

Response:

Do not use this company ! It's a rip off ! They give you one price for the membership and tell you all the checks you want etc. Well when you run your first check after they have your money, you find out the check is worth nothing has no important info. or records etc. But then you get hit with the fact that you need to pay another higher fee to get any info. if that is any good who knows I refused to be ripped off. Then after my complaints etc. they had the guts to bill me for another month, who knows if I will ever get it back. Don't use them !!!!! Better , more honest ones out there.

Review: Background Alert makes false claims that it will pull up thorough and extensive background checks on anyone. I have done multiple background checks and for every single section of the background check for EVERY single person I searched it provided nothing more than an address and phone number. It could not even associate related people to the people searched like it said it could, and that is probably the EASIEST thing to do. Two people that I searched I am 100% positive that they have criminal offenses and NOTHING showed up. It is false advertisement to deceive people into thinking this is a legitimate business and then put a disclaimer that they may not be able to access information. This business needs to get shut down. Also, the information brought up about addresses were completely out of date. I want my money refunded for false advertisement or I will pursue this in court.Desired Settlement: Full Refund and business shut down

Response:

Hi [redacted],I am sorry you are unhappy with the information our service has provided. We understand how frustrating it can be when you are looking for something and can not find it. Please understand that we are a service that gives you direct access to thousands of government and private databases and sometimes this data is flawed, this is the nature of all public records. We strive to be the leaders in this industry and currently allow our customers direct access to over 37 billion public records, one of the best tin the industry. The amount of information returned from a search is really dependent on the person you search, some people have tons of information in public records and others do not, this is not a flaw in our service. Moreover, if you searched someone that has a criminal record, but did not come up with anything, this is because either the criminal record was not filed correctly on the person's name (you would need to search SSN or DL# which we do not over right now, but will soon) or the record was expunged/sealed which no one has any control of.Regardless, of your situation we have issued a full refund for your fees and hope this resolves this situation.Backgroundalert.com

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved. Although, I would still like this business to be shut down for false advertisement.

Regards,

I purchased a one month membership from them and received an email clearly stating that I did just that. To my surprise I was charged another month without my consent. Makes me very angry.

Signed up for a trial period in June fro $22.95. Have now been billed for 4 additional months for a total of $91.80. Called and was told that I had signed up for a regular monthly fee program. Needed to contact for a cancellation. A 5% credit on current billing period was offered. I can't believe that these companies get away with this type of marketing activity, I don't have the time to track down my sign up info and they of course are well aware of this. Please be aware of these marketing tricks. Make sure that you read the Terms and Agreements.

Review: I searched for myself on this site, in which I found my information.

I wish to have it removed.

At the bottom of the website there is a link which reads "remove content" but it requires a form of identification in order to "Prove its me" removing my own info.

I don't trust giving this website my id and demand they remove my information as I am being stalked and harassed by an abusive ex.Desired Settlement: Remove my personal information from [redacted] without identification.

Business

Response:

Hey [redacted],Thank you for your interest in Backgroundalert. Our number one goal is customer satisfaction and we are more than willing to work with you to remove your information from our website. Please understand that many people use our website to protect themselves and as a way of feeling safe about their surroundings. In order to preserve the integrity of our records databases, we ask our users to verify themselves before we remove any records from our site.At Backgroundalert, we hold privacy and protection above all else, which is why we understand the dilemma that you are in. I have forwarded your contact information to our risk department that helps manage these inquiries - I am sure that they can work with you to help remove your information in a way that you are comfortable with. You should hear from them in the next 1-2 business days.Thank you very much for your patience!

Review: Made a one-month charge purchase to use the service for one month only. I have been fraudulantly charged for 3 months now. I called on 11/25/15 once I noticed I was charged for a 2nd month. I was told the service was cancelled. However, I was charged again on 12/22/15. I made a second call on 12/29/15 and was told I would receive a refund.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund for the 2 months that were not part of the service that was ordered. I also want them to stop charging my credit card.

Business

Response:

Review: this company promises unlimited background checks for one month, for 22.95. then, provides only a name and address, nothing more. they ask for more money for any additional information.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my money, and also to have them stop advertising the way they are.

Business

Response:

We received an email form this customer on 3-16 stating she was having issues with a report she has pulled. We responded to her on March 17th and we did not get an answer back. Her original email stated that she did not get the information she requested. Upon looking at the reports she pulled we found that we provided her a report that included criminal records, marriage/divorce, birth/death records, personal records, address history, phone number lookup, license search, related person search and sex offenders in the area. Do understand that some people have more information available than others, hardened criminals have pages of arrest records whereas the average American has a clean criminal history with zero records. Some people have moved around quite a bit in their lifetime and will have a long history of addressed, and some may not. I would like to also point out the fact that no records is information in itself, when we return no records for a criminal check, we are verifying that the individual is not a criminal. We are very sorry that this client is unhappy with our service, as a good faith gesture, we would be more than happy to refund the monthly fees that she has incurred in order to resolve this matter. We take pride in being one of the leaders of the background check space with over 37 billion public records that we search to produce a detailed and accurate report.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

My complaint is that the company needed me to provide all of the information that they professed to be providing. I had to provide THEM with all of the information about the person in question. If I wanted anything more than just their address, I needed to pay to be upgraded to a new level. They did not provide me with anything at all that I did not already have. It is a 'come-on' to force people to pay more to upgrade to a higher level of service.

Response:

Our records indicate that you signed up for our service and pulled a report which included the following information:

Criminal Records Search - No one wants to find out that someone they know has been arrested or been to jail, but it's an important thing to know about someone. We'll do a detailed criminal check on any person and show you all available arrest and criminal conviction records the person may have. You may find possible traffic tickets, arrest records, or outstanding warrants. When available, you'll be able to see the details of when and where the crime occurred and details about the offense.

Marriage/Divorce Records - Want to find out if this person is married or has ever been divorced? Our service will search local government marriage/divorce records and provide a complete history of all available marriage or divorce records this person has ever had. Get all the available details about each marriage or divorce including but not limited to month, year, location of the wedding, or reason for divorce.

Personal Records - Things can get personal quick. We cover all the bases by providing the person's basic information such as full legal name, current address, age, birth records, death records and more. We'll go deeper where you may find possible aliases this person} has use to possibly hide the truth and current listed telephone number on file.

Detailed Address History - You can tell a lot about a person by where they have been. We'll provide you an exhaustive address history on {!name} complete with satellite pictures and all available details about each address including but not limited to possible roommates, phone numbers at address and census data. See how often this person has moved around and track down alarming patterns this person may have.

Related Persons Search - Get a complete relative report on this person including but not limited to possible siblings, parents/grandparents, cousins, aunts/uncles and other extended family members. Our search is very exhaustive and far reaching, you may also be able to find possible boyfriends/girlfriends, roommates, partners, in-laws or close friends.

License Search - See if this person holds a current Federal Aviation Administration pilot licenses or a Drug Enforcement Administration license. Get all the available details on each license including but not limited to license number, license status and expiration date. We pull records from the FAA and DEA so you can quickly and accurately find out if this person can prescribe controlled pharmaceuticals or fly a plane.

Sex Offender Search - Sex offenders are scary and almost always dangerous people. We help you protect yourself by providing you a complete list of registered sex offenders that live near this person}. We'll provide details of what they were convicted for, current address, and any mugshots (when available) we have on record. Many of our clients avoid registered sex offenders by regularly searching themselves to get a current list of registered sex offenders that live nearby.

Unfortunately, the person that you searched simply did not have a substantial amount of information on public record, otherwise anything available would have come up as part of our search. Moreover, as a good faith gesture, we have offered to refund you monthly fee to resolve this matter.

Review: I receive Spam type emails with links that redirect to their website. The 2 emails from today claim as follows:

( I used the * symbol substitute to 4 locations on the public file dispute #)

Second email is as follows:

ALERT: One (1) Negative Record Just Added to Your Public File. Dispute #[redacted])

( I used the * symbol substitute to 3 locations on the public file dispute #)

Both emials have the following in the body of the email:

CURRENT STATUS: PENDING/ACTIVE - ATTN NEEDED (this would imply that I must do something)

MSG FOR: [redacted]

(I did not include my actual email address here as I have provided that information to the Revdex.com in the initial complaint form)

Both emails today, and the others before then make the following claim:

These newly-added negative line items have now become publicly viewable for anyone that is looking for information on you.

ATTN NEEDED: Go here to view and confirm/dispute these negative items: [redacted]

I am curious as to the permissions they have to use the logos. I am also curious as to the legality of sending something like this to a business hosted email regarding an individual user. I have called on more than one occasion and was told to ignore it, that it is an advertising campaign, and once that they only deal with the customers of the website. This seems to be at very least irresponsible 3rd party advertising, and could possibly be defamation liable or slander.Desired Settlement: I want to know exactly what the information is, and the source of said information regarding my good name. I would like to know how to avoid these types of scare tactics. I would like the public to know that these businesses rely on the " charging of your credit card after your free, or low cost trial."

Once this information has been satisfied I would like to never be contacted by this company or any of their associate advertisers.

I would like full disclosure on the entity from which this email originated:

CourtRecords Accessed [[redacted]/

Is it typical for the company to combine Alphanumeric in their Zip Code adding Letters O when there should be a 0? I believe the emails are originating from someoen using [redacted]domain[at]gmail.com, and no one answers at [redacted]. Review: I signed up for a $1.00 trial of this background service on January 18,2016 at about 4:00 pm my time. I cancelled the service o January 20, 2016 at 1:30 pm.,my time. I did pay the dollar plus an extra 50 cent international fee. I have conformation of this cancellation. Now, they have charged my checking account (credit card)$29.99 plus an additional 90 cents. I called and talked to their customer service today, January 28 at 2:00 to have this amount taken off of my account. They claim I called them on January 15, 2016 and I have five days to cancel. So, why am I still being charged? They said they would have to look into it. Please have this amount erased from my checking account. Also, this business is not really legitimate in what they tell us customers.

Review: They have a published Refund Policy which states, "Our number one goal is customer satisfaction. If you are ever not satisfied with our services, feel free to contact us here, and we will work to resolve your issue. Refunds are handled on a case by case basis with the ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction."

I ran one report, on myself, and there was no data on any topics they advertised and even my birthdate was wrong. I called customer service within minutes and at first the lady said they had a no refund policy. I told her there was no value and I wanted a full refund. Then she told me she could refund me 25%.

This company did not provide a single thing of value and their site is misleading.Desired Settlement: I want a full refund. If their number one goal is customer satisfaction, that will satisfy me.

Review: I contacted Background Alert to remove my personal information from their site on March 31, 2015, and was instructed to fax my driver's license which I did on same day. I explained that I had survived a violent crime and my attacker was still at large, asking if they could expedite the matter. I was told it would take up to five business days to process.

It's now over two weeks later and all of my personal info is still on their site. I've called several times and spoken with four different reps who told me each time that a supervisor would return my call, but no one ever did. I've left three messages for [redacted], Sprvsr. of which I never got a response to. I explained each time about my circumstances, and that my safety could be compromised without removal of my information.

When I spoke to a rep yesterday I stated that if my info wasn't taken off of their site by this afternoon, I would file a complaint with the Revdex.com. As of today, 15 days later, nothing has been removed.

It does say on their site that "opting out" personal info can take "up to five days" to be removed.

I feel they just can't be bothered, and I worry for my safety.Desired Settlement: I want my personal information removed from their site at once.
