roku scam
I was activating my roku this and number 855-948-3554 came up to call to activate my roku. I called he told me I had to pay for a 2yr or a 5yr agreement for services.
I paid for the 2yr, which was $86.99

Desired Outcome

refund

We are very sorry that the customer isn't satisfied for the purchase - We see no instance where we didn't informed the customer about us or any instance which made them dissatisfied about the service as it is not a common occurrence at our company.
We always provide our customer the complete document mentioned with all the services being offered in exchange of a one time transaction.

Regardless, we have already refunded the complete amount of $86.99, as customer satisfaction is the main priority to our organisation.

I was charged for fraudulent instalation fees & IT services.
Purchased a roku express on 5/16/20. During installment I received an error message, to call this number (800-451-1341). I advise that I had to pay a fee of $135.95 for activation and IT service. The IT service was a 3yr plan & 24 hr service.
I questioned the man, why do I have to pay a fee, I already have a roku account? He informed me that the old account will be expiring the end of this mouth (5/2020). And this is something new that began in March. He also said the fee was mandatory, and if I didn't pay the fee, my services would be interrupted. So I gave him my credit card information He sent me a document via email, and said I had to sign it now while he was on the phone, electric signature.. He said my name is ***. If you have any problems or questions, don't call the first number(800-451-1341). Call me @ XXX-XXX-XXXXX. The next day (5/17/20) I called back and told him I was not satisfy with the services, I wanted a full refund. He said what is the problem? I told him I wasn't satisfy with the services or the fee, and I want a full refund. He said fine. Than he send me a refund confirmation and I will receive the refund in 3-4 days. Which I never did.

Desired Outcome

I am seeking a full refund of $137.95. Thats all I want, is my money back..

CaliGeeks Response • May 22, 2020

We spoke to our customer & already issued the refund to the customer because customer satisfaction is our first priority.

Caligeeks INC want this case to be closed as resolved.

Caligeeks falsely represented I needed their service to connect my TV. I Canceled their service, and was verbally threatened, would block my computer.
On April 28, 2020, my 40" TCL ROKU HDTV LED 3 Series was delivered from Best Buy, Order # BBYXX- XXXXX XXXX XXX. The charge of $201.86 was submitted on my JetBlue MC.

As I was successfully following the set up prompts on the TV, a message popped up saying there was an error and gave a phone # to call for help. I incorrectly assumed this was a TCL tech support number. It was Caligeeks and they charged me for setting up ROKU. There is no charge for Roku! I called JetBlue and checked Revdex.com on line for any reports on Caligeeks. They were listed very poorly. Revdex.com's site about Caligeeks suggested I request they reverse the charges and then call JetBlue. After three hang ups, Caligeeks agreed to credit my account for $87.00. today, May 11, 2020, I heard from them repeatedly, saying I owed $199.00 and threatening that if I didn't turn on my computer and make some corrections they would block my computer. That's when I called and canceled my JetBlue card and contacted Revdex.com.

Desired Outcome

I want to make sure there are no further charges from Caligeeks and absolutely no further contact from them!

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I accept the response of Caligeeks but, if I continue to receive phone calls from this company I will reopen this case.

On Nov. 29th.2019 I also was scammed bought a smart tv and said I had to pay 60.00 for 5mo.or 116.00 for life took the life so I wouldn't be bother again. Didn't know what I was doing so I had no choice to pay. They should have to pay everyone money back.

Caligeeks are common thieves . They lie, cheat and steal your money. I went online to get and update for my Roku tv and got tangled up with theses crooks. They told me I had to do an update 179.00 permanently or 100 for 1 device for 5 years. I should have known it was a scam by his attitude he was rude but I always try to remain calm . I first chose the 100.00 as I had not heard it was for 1 device but when I said that I could tell it upset him. I then decided on the other . My mistake. Everything seemed normal. He logged into the tv. Sent documents to me but he sold me and misrepresented himself for something that is free. I was upset the whole time but I kept my composure as I just thought I needed it and I thought he had me over a barrel. They are thieves. Crooks . Nothing less . How dare they do this to people and think it is okay.

As of yet I have received nothing back at my bank. I realize you said it could be 3 to 5 days so I am waiting for that time to pass

The company posted as a technical support member of Roku. Both companies should be held responsible for misrepresentation and should be held responsib
On April 16, 2019, my husband purchased a Roku television from BestBuy. We sat for approximately an hour following the instructions and trying to activate our account. Finally we called three number on the television and was informed that we needed to purchase a subscription for access to channels. I purchased the subscription and immediately the tv was unlocked and everything was working.

A few weeks ago, I receive a text stating that services will soon be terminated. I call the company and was informed that I need to pay a maintenance fee or else my services will expire soon. I started researching this and could not find anything online about this fee then upon searching some more I realized this company lied and took advantage of me last year. This is intentionally misrepresentation and there company is in violation of the law.

Desired Outcome

I would like my money returned $129.99 and also there company need to be fined or charged.

I would like a refund of $149.99 because I was "tricked" and
"threatened" into giving my VISA information to Caligeeks to activate my ROKU device.
When I tried to activate my ROKU device, there were online instructions on my TV. When I reached the last step, there was a message that my device "failed to activate" and to call a telephone number that was on the TV screen. When I did so, I spoke with an agent who stated that I would have to pay $149.99 for "lifetime service" for my device....if I did not, he would inactivate the device I was calling about and another that I had on another TV. I was "sure " that I was talking to a ROKU agent and gave him my VISA number. After I hung up on the agent, I went to Best Buy where I had bought the ROKU and after discussing with the store personnel we discovered that this was a scam. ROKU DOES NOT AND NEVER WILL CHARGE A FEE FOR THEIR DEVICE. When my charge came through on VISA I received a text message and immediately cancelled the charge and my VISA card. A new VISA card was then issued. When I received my VISA statement I discovered that I was charged by Caligeeks, a company I never heard of or thought I had contacted. I called Caligeeks and they said they would send me a refund which they did not. I have disputed the charge with VISA and they "may reverse the charge" but have not yet done so.

Desired Outcome

I would like a full refund as I apparent paid for "non-existent services". You can see from the 6 attachments that I am not the only one who has been scammed.

Customer Response • Apr 13, 2020

This email is to notify you that my complaint against CaliGeeks has been resolved.

CaliGeeks refunded $149.99.

Without your help I am convinced that I would not have recovered the money that was scammed.

Thank you very much.

Company claims to be affiliated with ROKU. They charged $59.99 for a ROKU service and they are not affiliated I confirmed with ROKU. Very deceptive.
3/15 I was setting up my TV with ROKU, it indicated on the screen that I could not set up ROKU without calling a number to purchase a ROKU package $59.99. They said it was something ROKU just started this month and ROKU could no longer afford to provide a free service I called ROKU customer service 3/16/20 to confirm or deny.

ROKU claimed this company was not affiliated with them and that I had basically been scammed. The charge on my card was from Caligeeks ROKU is not affiliated with this company. The concerning part is they were able to access my television and account.

Desired Outcome

A refund of my $59.99 and $100 for the time I spent on the telephone discussing this for a total of $159.99

Thank you for your assistance, they did refund my money

Roku Ultra Installation Hacked TV
Message: Purchased the Roku Ultra and in 14 days it had an issue. It was returned for repair/replacement. Also, there was an issue while using the Roku Ultra with my Sony XBR TV. I had to get Sony involved to fix the issue. It took a few weeks for replacement. I could not get anyone to help me set upso I did it myself Sunday, 2/23/20. At the end of the installation, it stated my account had been denied and to call the phone number noted on the screen. I did & the person I spoke to was very hard to understand, but was finally able to get connectivity with his help. However, before I could get my Roku Ultra functioning, I was told that there was a new policy and if I wanted to view any programming I had to purchase either a $59.00/5 yr. or $79.00/Lifetime warranty/service. I could not believe this! Why wasn't this stated up front when I purchased the unit or when the unit was replaced? I opted for lifetime and could not afford it! Original purchase did not state this.

Desired Outcome

This company has hacked into my TV while an installation was being done. I would believe this to be a Federal offense. To the fullest extent!

After contacting the Revdex.com, FTC and the FBI, the company involved in this scam 'CaliGeeks' has refunded my money to the credit card it was charged on.
However, I have had to change my credit card, change all my passwords and notify all my billing contacts. This has caused me severe anxiety.

I received an error message to call this number before you can activate the Roku
I went streaming with my cable company XFINITY so I had to purchase Roku's to connect the service, when I went to activate the Roku I kept getting an error message to call this number 817-715-6364.

On 11/12/19 I paid 159.99 to activate the service for unlimited tv for 5 years.

When I turned my tv's on now I 'm getting an error message and I cannot watch tv. Also no one will answer the phone.

Desired Outcome

Refund my money

To Whom It May Concern,

The business has reached out to me and the issue has been resolved.

Thanks for your help

Falsely posing as another company tech support in order to charge your credit card fees that would never be charged by actual company
Made false representations they were Roku and Registration Fee required. Fabricated documents for my credit card company. Made false representations they were Roku and Registration Fee required. Fabricated documents for my credit card company so my refund was reversed. I bought a new Roku Tv on Jan 8th. It would not activate and on the screen I was told to call Roku at XXX-XXX-XXXX. The representative stated she was a Roku employee and that Roku had started charging a Registration Fee since 1st of Feb. It was a new policy. She represented that if you did not pay the Registration Fee, your Roku account would not work and TV would be useless. After the representative obtained all my information, she sent me a link for DocuSign which took me to a letter that I signed. I had no clue a TV could have a VIRUS Which could direct me to a false activation site. A day later I find that This is fraudulent actions by Caligeeks and has been experienced by several others. I will be contacting my credit card company to have the fraudulent charge reversed.
Desired Outcome
Refund of the fraudulent charge of $79.99 on my credit card and Caligeek employees taken to court for every penny they took from others knowingly. U don't work for these kinds of places and not know no are frauding people.

Desired Outcome

I did receive my money back. Thank you!

Fraudulent company hold themselves out to be associated with Roku.
This past Saturday. I purchased a Roku stick. While trying to install it. I was getting an error code 0 0 3. I went online to reach the Roku website. Found a customer service number and calls. An Indian gentleman answers the phone and tells me that I don't have a Roku account setup, but they will help me with that. So he perceives to take my name email information walk me through the downloading of the channels and then informs me that I will need to pay $120 activation fee for a lifetime of service and with taxes it would be a total of $144.99. Come to find out this is a fraudulent company that holds themselves out to be associated with Roku. Currently at the bank now trying to report the fraud and get my money back.

Desired Outcome

The company should be held liable for fraud and refund should be sent out.

Customer Response • Feb 13, 2020

I was issued a refund yesterday and recieved a email from the company about the refund.

Caligeeks represented themselves as Roku support and charged me $144.99 to set up my Roku device. I feel they mislead me into this service.
On 02/04/2020 I tried to set up a Roku premiere plus on my tv. Device # is JG28CGXXXXXX. I was directed to a phone # to activate this device. I called this number and was told they were support and could help me set ut up. I assumed it was Roku customer support. They had me log in to my account and wanted my pasword. I couldn't remember it to they sent me a reset link for Roku. I did this and reset password and gave it to them as it sounded very legit. They got it set up and went through a bunch of steps. When done with the steps they said I had to pay for a 5 year subscription or upgrade to a lifetime subscription which I did and was charged $144.99 to my crdeit card. They had me sign a contract electronically saying I could not charge this back. They gave me a phone # for customer support, XXX-XXX-XXXX and a ID # XXXXX. Afterwords I checked on my Roku account and found out my device was not registered with them. I looked farther and found out they don't charge for any services. I also read about the scams on there sight. Caligeeks said as of a certain date I January of 2020 they were authorized to collect the fee from Roku. I feel I was deceived by this company.

Desired Outcome

I would like a refund of $144.99 and have this account closed.

Customer Response • Feb 07, 2020

This issue has been resolved with a refund issued by Caligeeks

I was told by caligeeks I must pay $129 for Roku support, telling me Roku has changed. I have used Roku for 10 years and was never told this by Roku
On Dec. 22, 2019 While setting up my new Roku tv, a screen showed on my TV to go to Roku/active.com and enter the code that was given on the screen. On my smart phone I entered the web address and I chose the first blue highlighted address, little did I know that it took me to caligeeks where I entered the code but the code didn't work, it showed that I Must call a phone number to speak to customer service, which I did. A woman with poor English told me that Roku is changing and I needed to pay $129.99 for 5 yrs or $150.00 for the life of Roku. I was very upset for this pop up cost that I was not aware of, but I paid $129.99 with my debit bank card and within minutes my new tv was activated and ready to watch. She said I could access all 140 channels. A few days later I decided to access a few channels to which the channels wanted me to subscribe to, not free like the lady told me. So I decided to call the number I was given by the lady to ask what I just bought for my money. X-XXX-XXX-XXXX I asked the person what did I buy and he told me access to all of the channels, I told him I had no access and asked for his supervisor which he did, I asked If I could have something sent to me by mail of what I bought and he said there was nothing he could send. I think I got scammed by caligeeks pretending to be afiliated to Roku. How can you help? I'm told that my confirmation # is CGXXXXX

Desired Outcome

A full refund

Customer Response • Mar 02, 2020

I received a refund shortly after I have filled a complaint, I assumed that your services help me get that refund.
Thank you

Posing as Roku customer service. Charged said amount for registration when it's actually free from Roku. Just want my money refunded!
They pose as roku support service when in fact they are not.

Desired Outcome

Just want my money back.

Customer Response • Feb 10, 2020

Thank you very much for your help. The vendor has refunded my money back!
Sincerely

CaliGeeks are crooks. Posing as Roku and telling people that don't understand technology that they must pay $200 to register their Roku device
