Review: I submitted a claim through www.carfax.com and have not been contacted. The Carfax History Report did not do a full disclosure of the two accidents the car had been involved. I learned I lost at least $6,000.00 in value on a trade in this misrepresentation. I bought the car in May/2012 and could not trade it in on 04/02/2013.Desired Settlement: I Desire Carfax, Inc. honor the buyback gaurantee .

Response:

Dear [redacted]: We appreciate the opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint. The customer’s initial inquiry was twofold: first, that she contacted CARFAX and had not received a response, and second, that CARFAX failed to notify her that the vehicle had an accident history and therefore should purchase her vehicle under the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee. The answer to her first inquiry is that CARFAX has no record of being contacted by her about this matter, and if she would like to do so, she can contact us through our Help Center at www.carfax.com/help or via email directly to [email protected]. To answer her second inquiry, CARFAX did indeed include an accident history for this VIN on the CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and displayed the accident history on every CARFAX Vehicle History Report run for this VIN. The CARFAX Report also would have stated that since not all accidents are reported to CARFAX, CARFAX suggests a pre-purchase vehicle inspection to check for any hidden damage or prior repairs not reported to CARFAX. Lastly, as the CARFAX Report states, the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee only covers missing DMV-issued brand titles, and since no branded titles were issued, this case does not qualify for a CARFAX Buyback Guarantee claim.

I am rejecting this response because:

Dear [redacted],

I have record that I contacted you more than once about this issue. I got the carfax report from your partner in crime a.K.a [redacted] on [redacted] in[redacted]. Neither company chose to back their brand or act in good faith. I will never buy from Honda again and or any dealership, who boasts Car fax as a reputable report. This is the best way to remedy my complaint and insure I buy quality in the future.

Review: they don`t have a phone # where to call. they report a bad report. the police report has a mistake and instead of making sure. they report what they think is right I do have pictures and the two police reports the wrong one and the fix one after to many trips to the police station a lot a phone call the police officer admitted his mistake. but carfax still reporting that my truck have an accident is true that I was in an accident but the person is my costumer. I am a landscaper and I pulling a trailer whit my truck . my costumer hit my truck I can even call his insurance company and get copies of the report they check my trailer they pay to fix my trailer so I don`t understand why they come to put my truck with deployed air bags the other car has a deployed air bags because he back up with out looking even in the police report he admits his mistake I do paid for my truck $25000 now thanks to carfax it worth $2000 I am losing almost $15000 according to the value of my truckDesired Settlement: I want to car fax to pay the lost on price for my truck

Review: I was attempting to trade-in my vehicle but could not understand why they were offering me 4k under KBB trade-in value. Upon pressuring them to explain the showed my my CARFAX report. CARFAX falsely reported that my airbags deployed in an accident which is a downright LIE! They didn't even have the date of the fender bender right!!! The only damage done to my car was a dented bumper/lift gate which was replaced with a brand new one. They cost me at least 4k!!! I could not trade in my car because of them.Desired Settlement: Obtain the correct police report and correct my information on my carfax report

Business

Response:

CARFAX could find no record of being contacted by anyone with the name "[redacted]" or the email address of "[redacted]". If the customer would like to dispute information on the CARFAX Report, they must complete a Data Research Request form. CARFAX's accident information is reported to CARFAX by police departments. If the police report does list an airbag deployment, even if the officer marked it this way in error, it must be corrected by the police department before CARFAX can remove it from the CARFAX Report.

Review: Carfax listed a car with a selling price. I went to purchase the car from [redacted]. I was told by "The man in charge" they would not honor the price cause " That website is always wrong." The car was $9,000 higher at the website than what is listed on Carfax.com.Desired Settlement: I would like someone held accountable for false advertisement. I thought Carfax was set up to help car buyers not lie to us. If dealerships are going to advertise with them someone should be responsible for editing the mistakes before they are available to become potential buyers let downs.

Business

Response:

Vehicle prices listed on the CARFAX Used Car Listings website are submitted by the selling dealership. For this reason, the CARFAX website asks those using the site to "Please contact the dealer to confirm price and vehicle availability." The site also states, "Vehicle descriptions and details on this page may have been provided, in part or entirely, by the seller or its agent. CARFAX does not verify these descriptions and details, and is not responsible for the accuracy of the information."

Review: I purchased a 1998 Corvette on 12/2009. The carfax said the car had no damage. So I bought the car on good faith. I went to trade the car for a newer car on 3/28/2013. The dealer ran a Carfax report and found a total loss damage on 1/18/1999. Which was reported on 2/25/2013. This is just being reported for the first time after THIRTEEN YEARS ! I tried to contact Carfax via E-mail and phone to no avail. There is no way to have this problem resolved. There is no customer service to call. Basically, my car is worth half of what dealership offered me. Is this a mistake, is this a scam ? Carfax has a monoloply. Whatever they say goes ! They are playing God ! The consumer is loosing out again !Desired Settlement: Change report or prove that there was a total loss. If so,because of THIER tardiness, provide compensation for the money I lost.

Business

Response:

Dear [redacted]:

We appreciate the

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint.

On April 15, 2013, CARFAX

sent the following response to the complainant via email:

[redacted],

No, you cannot simply call us to get

accidents put on CARFAX Reports. CARFAX receives vehicle history information

compiled from thousands of data sources. CARFAX can only report the information

reported to CARFAX and relies solely on those data sources. Each CARFAX Report

states that it may contain errors or omissions, that not everything is reported

to CARFAX at the time the CARFAX Report is run, and, therefore, CARFAX

recommends a pre-purchase vehicle inspection and thorough test drive.

For this case, the insurance company name

is not provided to us for privacy reasons, however, we verified that the

vehicle was considered an "owner retained salvage". This mean that

the vehicle was deemed to be a total loss, but instead of giving it over to the

insurance company, the owner at the time chose to keep the car and have it

repaired. I do not have any further information, nor do I have any reason to

believe the information is incorrect. I'm sorry it was not reported to us by

our data source earlier, but it has been reported and has also been verified.

Review: I ordered a carfax and was extremely dissatisfied with the content provided. It included false information and was also missing some content. I sent two emails and filled out the refund request form and yet I'm still being ignored.Desired Settlement: I would like the money refunded back to my debit card as per your money back guarantee

Business

Response:

CARFAX received the refund request form submitted by the customer. The customer was sent several auto-response notices informing him that we had received his requests and would be responding shortly. Due to a backlog from being closed for the Holiday, CARFAX responded in two business days via email issuing the refund.

Review: The Carfax purchase page clearly and boldly states that there is a No Risk, Money Back Guarantee if not 100% satisfied. There are no disclaimers, qualifiers or footnotes associated with this claim. I signed up for the unlimited service which I used for only 30 minutes when I discovered that the unlimited service was limited to sales by private sellers only and only allowed 5 searches by VIN. This is not stated on the purchase page. I ran a total of 4 reports in 30 minutes before discovering the limitations. I immediately stopped using the service and sent a request for adjustment to the terms of the service or a refund. Subsequently I followed up on one of the reports that proclaimed the car a "one owner" car. This turned out to be untrue.

I am unsatisfied with the limitations of the service and the results of the service. I am 100% dissatisfied. I requested a refund per their boldly stated satisfaction guarantee. The reply stated that because I used the service for more than 2 reports negated their guarantee. How can you claim that using a service negates your ability to be dissatisfied.

I only used the "unlimited" service for 30 minutes and was totally dissatisfied. Please honor your "Money Back Guarantee if Not 100% Satisfied - No Risk!" policy.Desired Settlement: I expect a full refund of my purchase payment.

Business

Response:

When the customer purchased an account from CARFAX, he checked the box stating "I agree to the Customer Agreement and understand that CARFAX may not have the complete history of every vehicle." Within that Customer Agreement outlines the refund policy, which states:

Review: Carfax has my vehicle title listed as "Branded - Salvage" for which it is not. I contacted the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles twice and both times I was told that Carfax was incorrect and my vehicle title was clear. I Emailed Carfax everday since April 4th, 2014 and have corresponded with [redacted] multiple times. I've explained the situation to [redacted] and told him that I contacted the La. Dept. of Motor Vehicles who stated my title is clear and not salvaged. He has refused to contact the DMV himself to clear this matter and since April 4th several individuals have refused to buy my vehicle because of the false Carfax report. I'm losing potential buyers due to the Carfax mistake and now [redacted] is not responding to my emails.Desired Settlement: I want Carfax to change my vehicle title from "SALVAGE" to CLEAR

Business

Response:

The state of Louisianna reported a salvage brand to CARFAX for 2005 for this customer's vehicle. CARFAX is currently working with the state to determine if the brand was issued in error and later corrected, or if the brand is still within the DMV system. Once the state concludes its research, CARFAX will notify the customer directly.

Review: On 5/26/2013 I purchased the unlimited auto search package from Carfax website. After using the search site by typing in the VIN # for 4 vehicles. after the fourth search I was advised by Carfax that I would have to search for cars by license plate numbers from now on. This is not possible because car that are sold by dealers dont have plates on them. The package cost $54.00 and now it is useless after 4 searches. This company has mant complaints on the Revdex.com site and many more on other sites. all I want is my $54.00 back.

Thank You

Dear **. [redacted]:

We appreciate the

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint.

Although **. [redacted]’s account does not qualify for a

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Regards,

Review: I went to carfax.com to order a report prior to buying a vehicle it gave me the option to purchase one report for 39.99, five reports for like 47.99, and unlimited for 54.99. Well I chose the unlimited option and processed my order for 54.99 at which carfax took out of my bank account I then opened up the report to read it and was unable to read the whole report. I then tried to run another report beings I paid for unlimited and it tells me that my email address is not recognized and that I need to purchase the report. I tried to get ahold of customer service to discuss this matter and there isn't any customer service number listed an no way to get ahold of the company other then to try to request a refund which I did but it asked for my information about my payment and then said I never paid bit the funds have been deducted from my bank acct and state carfax! This company should be stopped its not right to offer customers different prices and an unlimited option to then just take the customers money and only allow them one or no access as if they meet tried to open an acct! It should also be a must have for them to have a customer service number listed to help customers in this instance! Very disappointed and will never use this company again!!! Now I'm out 54.99 for nothing!!Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund and for the Revdex.com to either bring this company down or make them get some kind of customer service representatives and a customer service number! If they are taking people's consumers money they should have a way to be contacted!!

Review: I bought a Hyundai Genesis coup 3.8 in June 2012 for the purchase price of $22,321. I purchased the vehicle based on a clean Carfax report that claimed the car had flawless background.

Six months later I was already looking to sell the car and went to a Carmax dealership where an appraisal was performed and an [redacted] report history was produced that clearly showed my car having been in an accident and ben previously sold at an auction under " auction announced as unibody damage". The car was appraised at $11,000 which is a 6 month loss of value of $11,321.

It is outrageous that even to today, that same Carfax company has NO records of accident on this vehicle and that they are allowed to continue and defraud consumers.Desired Settlement: I have no idea as to even what to ask as an outcome. All I know is that I have purchased a car based on Carfax reputation, advertisement and their ability to stand behind the cars they report and I am now $11,321 short.!

Consumer

I would like to receive monetary compensation to make up for the $11,321 loss that I have suffered because of Carfax misrepresented report.

Business

Response:

Dear **. [redacted]:

We appreciate the

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint. However, without the VIN, I can only respond

generically to these allegations.

**. [redacted] alleges that

he relied on a “clean Carfax report that claimed the car had flawless

background” and has accused CARFAX of fraud and misrepresentation. However, it is **. [redacted] that is

misrepresenting the CARFAX Report. No

CARFAX Report ever makes the claim that a history is “clean” or has a “flawless

background.”

If **. [redacted] did rely

on the CARFAX Report before purchasing, he would have relied on the section which

recommends a pre-purchase vehicle inspection.

If the vehicle did sustain prior structural damage, the inspection

should have uncovered the alleged hidden damage and prior repairs. If he did read the entire CARFAX Report, he

also would have had to rely on the parts of the CARFAX Vehicle History Report

that state:

This CARFAX Vehicle History Report is based only

on information supplied to CARFAX and available as of [the moment the CARFAX

Report is generated]. Other information about this [vehicle], including

problems, may not have been reported to CARFAX. Use this report as one

important tool, along with a vehicle inspection and test drive, to make a

better decision about buying your next used car.

Not all accidents / issues are reported to

No structural damage reported to CARFAX.

CARFAX OR ITS AGENTS FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS IN THIS REPORT. CARFAX FURTHER

EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED

WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Lastly, it is not CARFAX that

is causing the devaluation of the vehicle.

If someone is alleging the vehicle sustained structural damage, **.

[redacted] will have to take the matter up with them and ask them to show the

evidence they have to make such a claim.

No collector of third-party data records can make the claim that their

information is free from error. CARFAX

will not be offering any compensation on this matter.

I am rejecting this response because

Review: I went to trade my car in on a new one and they pulled my car on Carfax....the amount they wanted to give me was ridiculous! Turns out Carfax had on their report that there was airbag deployment at the time of a minor accident. I sent the appropiate file with the complaint online. It was the repair bill from the [redacted] authorized dealer..Today I get an email that they need the police report. I HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT! First of all, I feel if a report is wrong it should be up to their reps to check into it..but they have us jumping through hoops! But the fact that I sent the bill to them to prove their was no airbag problem repaired should be enough!!! I cannot even begin to look for a car til lthey take this off..I am not paying money to get a police report when they have info right there to substantiate my claim! I'm so upset......Please help me!!!Desired Settlement: I want the wording airbag deployment removed from my report from an accident in 2009.

Review: website sais $39 for 1 car report or $54 for five reports by vin number and unlimited by plate. I assumed it was a yearly subscription and did not say otherwise. I only used one time until today just over a month later to find it was a monthly subscription. It should clearly say a month next to it. The only way you would see it is if you click on a side box. It was very deceptive and from there history on Revdex.com I would say I am not the first to be taken. I would be happy with a return of my hard earned money. Change there web site so it is clear.Desired Settlement: $20 dollar return....there history will show I only ran one vin number.

[redacted]: Hello, welcome to CARFAX live chat! How may I help you today?

You: Hi. Im a long time Carfax user and I always buy the 1 month unlimited reports when I buy a car every few years, and I did this again last night but its saying on your siter that I only have 2 or 3 reports left, but I thought I bought the unlimited package like Ive always done before. Any idea why this is?

[redacted]: I apologize if there was any misunderstanding about our services. The 30 day unlimited account allows you to run a unlimited number of reports using the plate number only. The account also allows you to run 5 VIN reports.

[redacted]: I apologize that we are not offering or advertising unlimited VINs. The Order Page states that the Unlimited Package is unlimited by U.S. license plates, which generates the same CARFAX Report as running it by VIN, because it is design for looking at private party vehicles. Many cars on dealer lots do not have license plates, but many dealers will provide a CARFAX Report when asked.

[redacted]: We include five free CARFAX Reports by VIN when plates are not available and because some specialty license plates may not be in our database.

[redacted]: As a one-time courtesy, I have added 5 free VINs to your account and it will expire on 12-27-2013.

[redacted]: Is there anything else I can assist you with?

You: 1 second please

You: got a phone call

You: Ok im back

You: So you changed it to be only unlimited for plate #?

You: thats rediculas. All the cars on the used dealer lots dont have plates !

[redacted]: I apologize, but we are no longer offering unlimited VINs. Dealer lots do not have VINs but the majority of dealers will provide you a free CARFAX Report when asked

[redacted]: I apologize "plates" not VINs

You: yeah but the free one they provide is never as good as the ones I get from you guys

You: its like a simplified version without all of the details?

[redacted]: The Reports that are provide from the Dealer are the same Reports we provide unless they are not providing you with a CARFAX Report.

You: So the last time I bought was a few years ago but it was $40 and unlitited vins.. and now its $60 and only unlimited for plate #s? That rediculas

You: Everyone Ive seen from a dealer is simplified .. not the full version .. I think its cheaper for them

You: Can I request a refund?

You: plate #s are rediculas ... used cars on lots dont have plates .. Im sorry but thats a big change and more $

You: not your fault personally of course. just upsetting

[redacted]: It is possible the Reports you have seen from dealerships are not CARFAX reports but a competitors Report as they provide a summary if the infromation in their reports. I apologize that I am unable to refund your purchase because you have run more than 2 Reports and our refund policy is that we can refund you if 2 or fewer Reports have been run. Since I am unable to Refund the purchase, I have added 5 additional VINs to your account

You: becuase I loved Carfax previously but I have to warn people about it

You: I only signed up last night. Less then 12 hours ago. and I have a 1 month package, and youre saying its too late to request a refund?

[redacted]: Its not because of the time frame but due to the number of Reports you ran. For your convenience, I have included our refund policy that is located in the Customer Agreement. You qualify for a refund if:

• You have not, nor has any member of your household, received a refund from CARFAX within the last 12 months;

• You have run two or less CARFAX Reports on your Plan account; and

• Your refund is requested within 90 days of your date of purchase.

You: If you look at my past history I always buy 1 month and run about 200 reports before I buy a car, but this time its switched to 5 reports and 50% more $, and too late to request a refund?

You: Thats not very customer friendly

[redacted]: I understand and I apologize, but I am unable to refund the purchase of this account.

You: Ive run 3 reports and had the service for less than 12 hours. There must be something more that can be done

You: When did it change to plates only? Was there a lot of confusion around that and a lot of people upset and requesting refunds, and what did you guys do then?

You: deney everyone a refund?

[redacted]: I have added 5 free VIN reports to the account since I am unable refund the purchase. Unlimited VINs was removed since November 18, 2009 and did not begin offering an unlimited account until 2012.

You: WOW

You: were a lot of people upset?

You: thx for the 5 extras but I still feel Ive been slighted

[redacted]: I do apologize that you are upset, butI have done all I can to assist you. As I previously stated, I am unable to refund your purchase as you do not qualify for a refund. If there is nothing else I can assist you with, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving.

You: Im not sure exactly what to do next as I dont see anyway out or way to rectify

You: Thx and same to you. if u can, please record this for me in your records as another unhappy customer

Business

Response:

CARFAX stopped offering

an unlimited-by-VIN product four years ago, based in part on the fact that a

large majority of customers only ran a handful of CARFAX Vehicle History

Reports, rendering an unlimited-by-VIN plan largely unnecessary.

We can’t please everyone,

but today, CARFAX offers three plans which satisfy the most customers: a single

CARFAX Report (by VIN or plate), 5 CARFAX Reports (by VIN or plate), and Unlimited

CARFAX Reports by plate (which includes 5 CARFAX Reports by VIN for free). The CARFAX order page specifies that this

plan is unlimited by U.S. license plate only.

It is also mentioned in the Customer Agreement, the receipt email, and

specified in the account upon logging in.

Review: I purchased a car on July 17th 2013. I checked the CarFax report and the car had no reported accidents. About a week later my radiator was leaking. I took it to a Honda dealership and they told me the car had been in a bad accident. The radiator was not the original neither was most of the body. CarFax advertises if their report is not correct they will buy your car back. Well there report is not worth the paper its printed on. Yes it cost me over 600 dollars to have it fixed. But they just washed their hands of the situation and said its my problem. What good is a CarFax Report ?Desired Settlement: I would like them to pay my invoice of $605 for repairs that they did not report. And now I have a car with damages on it from an accident that I have no knowledge. The value of my car is a lot less now knowing it was in an accident. This needed to be discloused to me prior to my buying the car.

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint.

**. [redacted] alleges that the

CARFAX Report stated “the car had no reported accidents,” and that “if their

report is not correct they will buy your car back.” Unfortunately, it is clear that **. [redacted]

did not rely on the CARFAX Report before purchasing his vehicle. If he had, he would have taken the vehicle

for a pre-purchase vehicle inspection as CARFAX recommended, which, according

to his own statements, clearly would have uncovered the alleged hidden damage,

prior repairs and mechanical issues. If

he did read the entire CARFAX Report, he also would have had to rely on the

parts of the CARFAX Vehicle History Report that state:

Review: I purchased a 2008 BMW 328xi on July 17-2012, .Well now here is the problem, I went to try an trade it in on 5-31-2013 and was shown a car fax which in the month of " october 2012 damage report, accident involving front or side impact with another motor vehicle. Minor right rear damage reported airbags did not deploy". Well I was never in a accident, so I got with car fax an they researched and verified that there was an accident on 3-28-2012. So now they have updated the car fax to show the damage event on the correct date. The problem is I was never informed about the car having been involved or had damage, also the information came out many months after I bought it. I would have never bought it knowing this information. I purchased what I thought would hold some value but instead it isn't worth nothing, this deceit has cause the value to be way way below what it should be worth. There was no disclaimer that it had damage done. I can't even do a trade because of the devalue of it now. VIN # [redacted] , car fax case # [redacted], an ref#[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to have the difference in loss value of my vehicle with a clean car fax vs the deprecation of the vehicle with a tampered car fax report and a no damage disclaimer, so that I can trade it in.

Response:

Dear [redacted]:

We appreciate the

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint.

CARFAX can only report the information reported to CARFAX,

and CARFAX constantly contracts with new data sources which may provide older,

archived vehicle history records. Because

CARFAX knows that not all information is reported at the moment a CARFAX Report

is run, each CARFAX Report contains notices and disclaimers on the matter and

suggests a pre-purchase vehicle inspection to check for hidden damage or prior

repairs not reported to CARFAX at the time.

I’m sorry the accident had not been reported to CARFAX

earlier. The CARFAX Report did state,

among other things, that “Not all accidents, or other problems, are reported to

CARFAX.” Because CARFAX was forthright

about its limitations, CARFAX does not offer any compensation for missing

accidents or other problems.

I am rejecting this response because:

Regards,

I totally disagree with the response, I now have a vehicle, that has really lost lots of value due to the car fax report 8 months after the fact, if this is not deception/ fraud I don't no what is. My trade in value is at 14,000 dollars for a car with 53,900 miles something is not right about this and I want to still pursue further action , cause I'm not pleased with this answer. Someone should be held responsible for this. Like I said before if I was given a disclaimer or something letting me know that would be different but there was nothing stating previous damage, nor anything on car fax.

Dear [redacted]: We appreciate the opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint. **. Review: Carfax sent out a massive email with over 100 people's private email addresses, mine was one that was sent out. This is a breach of identity for all of the consumers that pay their money to this company. There are people who are trying to sell our email address because this company was so careless with what they did. I now have to cancel my email address and change my information, because of the stupidity of someone in this company.Desired Settlement: I want a refund for all the monies that was charged to my card, because they were charged falsely. I did not request the amount that was charged to my credit card.

opportunity to offer the following response to the subject complaint.

[redacted] had requested

a partial refund for her purchase; however, on April 22, 2013, CARFAX issued a

full refund in the amount of $54.99, which should be on her credit card

statement by now.
