I have been a premium member of chuze carlsbad for over 4 years, in that time they have not upgraded very little if any of workout equipment, you can see rust forming on much of it, which they cover with paint from time to time, part of my premium membership states in bold, "Guest Privileges" as part of your premium membership. I rarely take advantage of this, but had an opportunity to bring a friend to work out with me. They made her fill out miles of forms then said she could not come more than once or twice unless she joined?! That's not guest privileges. That's a 1 day pass. After the 3rd degree was given, my friend definately won't join and I am becoming disillusioned with what I'm paying for. There are 2 other state of the art gyms in the area, one right across the street, I'm going to see what they have to offer

Review: I have a couple of problems with this business. First, they advertise "No Commitment" at all of their gyms, but then charge an annual fee and make you physically come in to cancel your membership 10 days in advance. I called to cancel my membership and was told I had to come in. I was unable to make it in before the next month's charge went on my card. As soon as I saw the charge and saw that it was double (annual fee was included) I went in to the gym the next day. I have not been to this gym for at least a few months and they can see that is the case. When I get there to cancel, there is already another woman speaking with one of the front desk people, very agitated about a similar issue to the one that I am there for. The girl that she is dealing with is offering very little concern and absolutely no sincerity in her apology. I get similar treatment to the fact that I tried to cancel by phone, but was unable to, have not been to the gym or used their services in months and now am being charged an annual fee for an upcoming year that I definitely will not be present for. When I ask about the annual fee and if it will be refunded since I am cancelling, I am told no, sorry.

I think that if you are advertising "No-commitment" that means that if a person cancels their service, they should not be charged for committing to an entire year that they won't be utilizing the services. This company banks on people that are looking for a cheaper alternative to the pricier gyms and takes advantage of them by offering cheap monthly rates with supposedly no commitment, meanwhile making it very easy to sign up and a bit more difficult to cancel. Clearly, when you have funds being automatically debited from your account each month and annually and you cancel and are not refunded your annual fee or at least a pro-rated amount of it, some commitment is implied by the business on the consumer's part.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of my annual fee. I also think they should be more responsible in their advertising and billing practices.

Response:

I received a phone call from [redacted] at Chuze Fitness in response to my complaint. While she was very friendly and overly courteous, she still held that their annual fee was not refundable and that they try to be very up front about their policies. In regards to the no-commitment issue that I have with them, there really wasn't much said, other than that customers can cancel anytime with a 10 day notice. The issue of the annual fee up front being a commitment was not resolved. After speaking with her about this, she said she would call someone else to see what she could do about the annual fee for me, but again reiterated that it was not normally refundable. She called me back shortly afterwards and said that she was able to get half of the fee waived ($20) and that she could offer me one month free at the gym.

I accepted the refund, but not the 1 month free offer. I reiterated that it was the principle of the non-commitment annual fee that I was upset about. Especially since I wasn't going to be utilizing their services/facilities for the upcoming year that I was charged for, but nonetheless I didn't want to have three more phone calls with Chuze. I just wanted to get it over and done with.

Thank you for your help. I just hope others are aware of this annual fee that is automatically charged (without warning or notification) and are sure to cancel well in advance of that fee being charged.

Review: Good afternoon,

I was a member at chuze fitness with my husband and due to the military we were due to move. My husband and I cancelled out memberships back in august of 2013. I was paying my bills and noticed a charge from chuze fitness for 29.99 apperantly when I called the chuze fitness in escondido, ca the lady told me that my husbands account had been canceled but not mine. So I have been charged for the past 4 months. I had to fax them over a typed document with my signature so they could cancel my membership. It is not my fault that they didnt submitt the proper paper work for my gym membership to be canceled. There was no trying type of option to make things better I asked for the company number and they gave me [redacted]1 which they are not available and then hang up. It cant end here. I did what I had to on my end and now they get to keep my money. Please help.Desired Settlement: Please refund the past 4 months that was charged to my account. Its not my fault that your employees cannot keep track of paperwork. I will report this to my chain of command.

Review: We have been members several years, and due to having community association fitness memberships we decided to cancel our Chuze memberships. On Oct. 5, 2015 I cancelled our 2 memberships at the Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) location. I spoke with the manager, [redacted], who said that because the monthly billing is taken from my credit card automatically on the first of the month, and because I had not given at least 10 days notice, that the monthly charges for October (total $19.98) would not be refunded, but I could use the club for the month of October.

A few days later I discovered that Chuze had also charged the full year "annual" fee on both memberships totaling $68.00 on Oct. 1, 2015, the membership anniversary date. I went to the club and spoke to someone there. I said that while I understood the monthly charge for October, I disagreed that we should be charged the full annual fee given that I was cancelling my membership at the very front end of the year. I was told that Chuze would not reverse the charges and the next day Mr. [redacted] called me to tell me the same thing. What distressed me was that he said I had no recourse to escalate and that calls to Chuze Corporate would be routed back to him. Having tried to call Corporate, I found that he is correct as I was unable to talk to any one there in person and my messages have not been returned. Mr. [redacted] also characterized my wanting to escalate as "threatening" which seemed inappropriate to me under the circumstances. We just want to be treated fairly.Desired Settlement: Refund of the annual membership fees.

Dear [redacted],

We have received the letter you filed with the

Revdex.com concerning your membership. Chuze Fitness is dedicated to providing the

highest standard of customer satisfaction possible and we regret if you feel

that this standard was not met.

We apologize that you

are unhappy with your Annual Fee charge on October 1st. According to your

membership agreement, we require that cancellation requests be received at

least 10 days before a scheduled bill date in order for us to guarantee that a

bill can be stopped. All monthly and

annual payments are non-refundable, unless we receive medical or military documentation

stating you were unable to utilize your membership. Because we did not receive

your cancellation request until October 5th, we are unable to refund your

Annual Fee.

During our phone

correspondences, I offered to credit your account with two complimentary months

of membership for yourself and your daughter. I explained that although we are

unable to refund your Annual Fee, we wanted to make an effort to show how much we value your

membership and commitment to fitness. Because you did not accept my offer

during our phone correspondences, I have not adjusted your account to reflect

these complimentary months of membership. However, [redacted], my offer still

Review: I signed up for Chuze and was paying 19.95 a month plus a 39.99 annual membership fee. I was locked into a year contract. In May of 2014 I became a domestic violence victim in a protection program and had to relocate to Sacramento where there is no Chuze. I contacted the club via email asking they close my account as of May. They continued to charge me finally cancelling my membership November 5, 2014. I am due a refund of 39.99 for my annual fee plus May-November 19.95 a month membership fees as a refund for a total of $159.69 that should be refunded to my cc. I physically went into the national city location last night to show proof of restraining order, protection order, new address in sacramento and proof of being in program. Still no refund!Desired Settlement: please refund the 159.69 back to my credit card I am a domestic violence victim and am protected by law, it is not ok to take advantage of my situation by forcing me to pay dues to a membership I cannot use when I am forced to live in another city for my protection.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear

Review: My complaint does not quite fit into any category. This business is a gym with, in my opinion, unreasonable cancellation policy for their membership. They require a person to come into the location in which they obtained their membership in order to cancel it. There is no way to cancel the membership online. The only other options are to make a written statement with full name, date of birth and a reason they deem valid, for cancelling the membership and the paper has to be signed. It can either be faxed or emailed. I am an active duty service member who used to live close to the location and moved across the country for my next duty station. Due to the timing of the move and my obligations to my command I was unable to cancel the membership before the move. The first time I called they refused to do it over the phone despite my informing them that I had moved and had no way of doing the fax or email. I called again just this evening and got the same answers. Luckily, as I do not have internet, nor a smart phone, I was able to use my neighbors internet to send the email requesting the cancellation. I moved on July 4, 2014 and it is now August 27, 2014 and have paid 2 months for a membership I am unable to use and just barely was able to cancel.Desired Settlement: Besides desiring a refund for the two months I could not use of the membership, the company needs to review and revamp its policy on allowing members to cancel their membership. A member should be able to cancel it over the phone, with giving the correct information or cancel the membership via the internet to avoid others from having this same problem. At the very least exception should be made for military personnel and their familes.

Overall a decent facility in San Diego for the price of $9.99 per month. I wouldn't pay a penny over $9.99 though. I was new to the area and wanted a cheap gym that was hopefully not a breading ground for meat heads. Last night at the Mission Valley location, an old dude who seemed to be a David Hasselhoff impersonator tried to fight me over a weight bench... None of the staff members either noticed or cared to resolve the situation, so that will be the end of my gym membership at Chuze Fitness.

Keep the Peace America

Review: I signed up with them under the understanding that they don't have contracts, that there aren't cancellation fees to worry about. Turns out that's not entirely true. If you DARE to take advantage of any kind of enrollment deal as I did, you are locked into a contract with them for one year and if you cancel and are within 39 miles of a facility you have to either continue your contract or pay the early cancellation fee.

I took a promotion to the LA office and guess what...there is a gym 38 miles from where I will be. So they won't let me out of contract unless I pay their cancellation fee. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD DRIVE 38 MILES TO GO TO THE GYM??!!!!!! Especially in LA?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!!!

I escalated it all the way to the general manager Ian and he sounded like a dang puppet just repeating what his manager, and staff said. I'm sorry ma'am, but you're within the 39 mile minimum radius, so we can't. You have to pay it. UGH.... I don't do contracts...I would NEVER have taken advantage of that deal had I realized it would lock me into a contract.

Their advertisement for the dollar deal did NOT say anything about being locked into a one year contract by taking advantage of the deal. I live too far from their orange county facility to realistically be able to continue my membership.Desired Settlement: Cancel my membership, and waive the cancellation fee

Review: Saw the Chuze Fitness Ad for $1 for the first month. On the same ad they claim no cancellation fee as one of the highlights of the deal. In small print at the bottom they then claim that there is a $50 cancellation fee. I told this to their manager when I did cancel and she said that their employee should have told me about this condition in small print at the bottom of the flier when they signed me up. The person who signed me up did not tell me this. I specifically signed up for this gym because there was no cancellation fee on the Ad. You cannot say no cancellation fee in large font on your ad and then say there is a cancellation fee in small font at the bottom of the Ad without properly instructing the customer when they sign up. The manager acknoledged that their representative failed to notify me but would not offer do remove the $50 fee.Desired Settlement: My Chuze Fitness ID is 728816 and I would like a $50 refund for the cancellation fee that I was not notified of.

Review: I filed a complaint with Revdex.com San Diego against Chuze Fitness Carlsbad a few months ago and thought this was resolved. I just went on "my account" on Chuze Fitness website to make sure there was NO BALANCE. Well they have still been trying to take out monthly dues and says I am past due over $100. This account was to be closed by the owner of Chuze and Bethany at corporate. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED??? This is not only illegal, but they now are probably reporting to all three credit agencies and I WANT THIS FIXED ASAP!!!!Desired Settlement: I want this account closed with NO monies showing owed. And I want a copy of all three credit agencies proving this is to be taken off and taken care of immediately. I will go to the Attorney General with this, if not resolved by end of this week.

Response:

Hello [redacted],

Thank you for reaching out to us again. I apologize for the confusion regarding the

cancellation of your membership. When we

communicated in July, I offered to honor your cancellation attempt on June 15th. As of that date, your membership account had

a balance of $49.99 and you had a pending bill of $20.14. After further review of your account, we

offered to waive $10 of your current balance, as well as to stop your pending

bill, leaving only $39.99 on your account.

You replied to my offer and stated that you felt this would not resolve

your complaint; therefore, we did not apply our offer to your account. Because the offer was not applied, you are correct in that your balance continued to grow in

our system. However, we did not attempt to draft this balance from your bank after July, nor we did send any information to any credit

bureaus or collection agency.

I would like to once again extend this offer to you. I have already set your membership to cancel,

pending the payment of the $39.99 balance. Once that balance has been paid, your

membership will automatically cancel.

If you have any further questions or feedback for us, or if

you would like to make a payment to close your account, please do not hesitate

to contact me.

Review: My husband and I signed up for a membership with your establishment in Westminster California , at the Westminster Mall last week. The way the plan was presented to us was " we get one premium membership and my husband or I can be the guest and work out together. Last week I had injured my shoulder and could not work out. My husband took my son as a guest to work out in my place. All of a sudden one of your employees came over to my husband and son and confronted them regarding our membership. If the policy was misrepresented or misunderstood that's fine. It was the way they were confronted and treated. They were asked to leave because they were not the membership holder. It was embarrassing, degrading, and the humiliation they suffered at the hands of your employees. was uncalled for. My husband asked to cancel the membership and was told he could not. That I had to be the one to cancel the membership, in which I did immediately following the indecent. I believe one of the girls names was [redacted] and their was another one as well. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

Regards,

Review: I'm filing a complaint against Chuze Fitness at 4730 E. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ 85710.

Since I was no longer able to pay the fees, I personally spoke with a manager at the gym ([redacted]) and asked for a membership termination (reason: Personal).

The date of the requested cancelation was 2/11/14. The actual termination date was to be 2/24/14, which was told to me - as well as documented on the printed confirmation notice of which copy I receievd- that on the next bill date, 2/25/14, my account was no longer to be charged!

At the day of the cancelation, 2/11/14, I still owed Chuze $30.54. I told [redacted] that I will return to the gym in the next week or so and pay the amount in person. He agreed. But before I had the funds to do so, my bank accoun was already charged with this amount, which immediately added an additional $34.00 to my account by my bank for insufficient fees. This was not a charge that I anticipated and which I cleared that I would pay through different means. However, Chuze Fitness accesses my account for this charge, as well as another one (which I will describe next), regardless of the fact that they ([redacted]) seemed to have understood that they shouldn't have.

On 3/01/14, I received an email from the gym, noting that my dues were past. I immediately emailed Eddie, a manager at the center the exact things that I noted at the top of this email. Since I have never heard back (very unprofessional), I figured that my business with the gym was totally finished; up until yesterday afternoon (3/04/14) and this morning, when there were additional charges from Chuze Fitness for the amount of $10.00 (about which I am totally confused) and $34.00 for insufficient funds. This brought my account to -$99.68!

These charges correspond with unprofessional, and even illegal, activities. I am forced to complain at this platform and demand that I am compensated for the two charges of $34.00 (insufficient fees) and $10.00 (unclear charge): A total amount of $78.00!

Also, I obviously expect Chuze Fitness Headquarters to be noted for these wrongful acts and contact my bank for the compensation.

I appreciate your assistance with this matter.Desired Settlement: 2x $34.00 (insufficient fees) and $10.00 (unclear charge): A total amount of $78.00!

Also, I obviously expect Chuze Fitness Headquarters to be noted for these wrongful acts and contact my bank for the compensation.

Review: I cancelled my membership to Chuze fitness in February 2013. They continued to charge me throughout March and April. I finally cancelled my debit card and got a new one in May to stop the charges. In July I was contacted by Chuze Fitness regarding an $88 balance. I let [redacted] know that I cancelled my membership in February and he said yes, I see that you have not been to the gym since January, but I do not see cancellation paperwork, are you sure you didn't cancel in Carlsbad? Then he gave me the phone # to [redacted] to call and get the account completely cancelled. I have left Bethany 3 voicemails and 1 email, all with no response.Desired Settlement: I would like for Chuze Fitness to credit my account the $88 due to their error of losing the termination paperwork, cancel my account, and stop contacting me.

Chuze Fitness

I was a happy member of Chuze gym for over two years. As a member I probably went to the gym twice a day every day, CHUZE in Carlsbad was like a second home to me. Since I'm not from the area I was looking to make friends and I found the gym to be a great place for that. My experience as a member was fantastic, until...

I had to move for work recently so I packed up my things and moved. During the move I was so busy that I stopped going to the gym. I left town and called to explain what happened. The rep in Carlsbad said I would have to come in in person to cancel, or send a fax. A week later I sent a fax with all of the information she requested, including a note I wanted to write for a few of the staff who I especially wanted to thank. I even joked with my friend that day that I canceled my gym membership, but it felt like a breakup ;)... I was truly bummed to not be a member anymore. I loved CHUZE. I loved working out there. I was very surprised to recently find a past due notice in my inbox. Chuze was still withdrawing payment on my account and my debit card had recently expired. I called to fix the issue. They said there's nothing they can do. In fact, in a very annoying manner they repeatedly kept telling me how there is nothing they can do. Finally the manager said he can cancel my membership but it would go into effect now and he would not be able to backdate it to when I sent the fax because he said they never received a fax. I told him it was a few months ago but I definitely sent the fax I even attached a note under my drivers license picture. I sent him a copy of my phone records to show him the phone call that I made back in August to chuze gym. I told him I also have the statement on my credit card showing the $2.33 fax payment from staples in my new city but that I am having trouble finding my actual paper receipt. I sent him a letter with my agreement number reason for leaving and everything, specifically requesting they backdate my cancellation. I canceled August 24th (sent fax). Today is November 16th. In return, all I got was a business email saying they canceled my membership effective immediately. I had asked what steps I can take to backdate this, because I know this was not my error. I am typically detailed with these things and as a former member of the CHUZE family I particularly found it insulting that I did not even receive a phone call back. It was as if the manager ignored the entire body of my email, and subject. Now I am not surprised they lost my fax because they did not even address my questions/concerns. I know it's mostly 22 year old kids behind the desk but I don't think this is a problem of maturity, it is that they don't have the best interest of the gym at heart. I would have gone above and beyond to contact a member who has concerns over her membership status. The company culture at Chuze has always struck me as a family one. I literally remember thanking the owner one day at Soup Plantation when I saw him climb out of his yellow Hummer. I said, I love your gym sir! For this to happen now is such a sad ending. I feel screwed over and it is really making me feel like I'm being hustled for a few months more of payment where I didn't even attend the gym because I had already moved away. I sent my new address with lease confirmation and everything. Again, not even one ounce of regard for my backdate request. Another example of how this is a matter of principle and ethics, but in this day and age people rarely understand what that means anymore. No one has any credibility and businesses want quantity not quality. So sad. So very sad about this.

Review: My mom signed up for a membership with Chuze. The advertisement said it was only for ten dollars a month. We ended up paying over 50 dollars just to sign up. A few months later, we went back to cancel her membership and one of the representatives said there would be a fee of 50 dollars which was ridiculous. So, we decided to keep the membership for a few more months. My mother has not worked out at Chuze for several months. She doesn't like going there, the staff is not very friendly and some equipments smell really bad. This morning there was a fee of $39.99 charged to my acct (I'm paying for her membership). I called and asked nicely if there's anything they could do about that. She simply said no and that it was my fault and I should have canceled before the free was charged. Again, my mother hasn't gone to Chuze in months so how was I supposed to know when the fee was charge. I asked if I could speak to a manager and she told she's the supervisor and the manager would tell me the same thing about the fee. She rudely rejected my request. I kept asking her to see where the manager was. She told me the manager would come in midday. So I asked for the customer service number and I called multiple times and no one was there to answer. I'm really irritated at the fact that you guys charged all these fee and yet nothing can get resolved for me.Desired Settlement: I would like my fees to be reversed and for your employees to not rudely deny ones reaquest to speak with a manager. Also, to take better care of your customers under these circumstances.

Review: Hi there,My name is [redacted]. I am a member at Chuze [redacted].I have to go back to my country ([redacted]) from May 18th, 2015 - August 30th, 2015 (3 months) for personal medical issue. When I talked to the staffs, they said that there is no way to freeze my account for those three months. They stated that either I close my account or I will be charged for three months. In case of me closing the account, they also told me that I will be charge the all the membership & first 90-day annual fees if I register again because they will treat me as a new member. The policy is not appropriate. I contacted other staffs and they all said that they could not do anything. They are not helpful with my issue. How could I be charge for three conservative month when I am not even in the U.S.?I need an explanation. If they could not resolve this matter, they will lost a lot of customers in the future with such policy.Best,ThaoDesired Settlement: I only need to freeze my account for three months. Also, the annual fee due date should be change along with those three months since I freeze my account.

Review: I joined Chuze fitness Carlsbad April of 2013 and tried to cancel last month around June 15th via fax per the Carlsbad location. I want to cancel the membership because I NEVER used it. I asked them to take in consideration that I NEVER used the gym and to not charge the yearly $39.99, $20 June charge, and then they tried to add $10 late fee. Chuze never got my fax. I have been emailing back and forth [redacted] and at first [redacted] since last month June around the 15th and they still have yet to satisfy my request. I said I don't want to be charged and not asking a lot. [redacted] final offer was to charge me $39.99. I asked to speak to someone above her. [redacted] replied there was nobody above her. I since then looked at Chuze Facebook and Twitter pages. This is on their Twitter page..A family owned business with spotless facilities, a great atmosphere, a dedication to member needs, and low cost memberships! I emailed [redacted] that I don't believe there is any "dedication to member needs". I also privately messaged his wife Maica to make sure Kris gets ALL the back and forth ridiculous emails. I am not asking for a million dollars. I am asking not to be charged those charges because I did fax the request to cancel something I NEVER used. Well now, I am coming closer to another months to be charged on the 20th and NOT going to pay for this. In all the back and forth emails between myself and [redacted] and [redacted], I did ask nicely to take in consideration my request in cancelling without these charges that I NEVER used the membership. Please help us to find a resolution.Desired Settlement: I want to NOT be charged any of the charges, since I faxed in my request last month and NEVER used the membership in 14 months. I don't feel there has been any empathy or like Chuze Fitness advertises "dedication to member needs"!!!!

Response:

Dear [redacted],

We have received the

letter you filed with the Revdex.com concerning your membership.

Chuze Fitness is dedicated to providing the highest standard of customer satisfaction

possible and we regret if you feel that this standard was not met.

We apologize that your

account was not cancelled when you attempted to do so on June 15th. As we notified you via phone at that time,

your account was already past due $49.99 and you had a pending monthly fee due

in five days. According to our contract

agreement, a member cannot cancel an account unless it is in good

standing. We also require that

cancellation requests be received at least 10 days before a scheduled bill date

in order for us to guarantee that a bill can be stopped.

Because you attempted

to cancel your account on June 15th, you were responsible for the

$49.99 past due balance on your account, as well as the $20.14 scheduled to

draft on June 20th.

In our email

correspondence, we offered to honor your cancellation request date, but you

requested that I re-review your situation and take into consideration your

cancellation request as well as the fact that you have only utilized your

membership a few times. Even though our memberships are not based on usage, I agreed

to take this into consideration and offered to backdate your cancellation request

date to June 10th, which is five days before your attempted

cancellation date. This means that as of

June 10th you would have been responsible for your June 1st

annual fee. However, we also agreed that we would waive the $10 service fee from

June 1st, as well as the $20.14 dues from June. This offer would leave the balance on your

account at $39.99.

I would be happy to

assist you with cancelling your account and adjust your account in accordance

with this offer. If you have any further

questions regarding your account, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

{ I never used the membership and asked kindly several times to close account without $39.99 for yearly dues, since they claim on all their websites, twitter, fb, etc. "a dedication to member needs". I feel that my request was reasonable.

Regards,
