College Works Painting Reviews (81)

Jackson *** was the College Work Professional in charge of painting our entire story concrete houseHe and his one man crew finished the job in daysDug around the foundation of the home to get paint where paint has never been, trimmed, rolled and sprayed the homeUsed duration Sherwin Williams paint that covered great even flaws in the concreteHighly would use them again

The first thing I did when I was considering using College Works for a painting project was to check with the Revdex.com I then met with a district manager...Arthur ("Trip") ***...at my home who very thoroughly and professionally explained how College Works is run, how and when payments are made, etc I did know that the work on my home was going to be done by college students...not experienced painters...so I knew there might be some quality issues I also knew that, as per the contract, payment would not be made until I was satisfied with the quality of the painting The first interns who were to supervise my project quit before my project began but the third...Josh ***...arrived with a great attitude and a marvelous work ethic The team that was assembled to do my project...painting my front porch, steps, house foundation, and some window frames...were very polite but NOT experienced at all I would guess they had never painted before and the quality was terrible They missed spots, spilled paint, etc I showed all of this to Josh and he completely agreed that the quality was not what I had contracted for He himself came back over the next few days and cleaned everything up, repainted, and went over with me day by day on his progress Josh and I did one final inspection today and I paid my bill I remember "learning the ropes" in my industry years ago...starting out in business not having achieved great skills yet but eager to learn and thankful when folks gave me a chance This is how I viewed hiring College Works It took them...Josh primarily...some extra time and some extra effort to achieve the results I expected...but they did

Primarily, this complaint is about the fact the "manager" James ***, who spent 95% of his time on the phone and no time painting or helping the painter who did an outstanding job by the way, but Jim INSISTED that the painter put on a second coat on the deck before the first layer of paint was dry and after two weeks, the deck is still not dry, is very tacky
We went over to Sherwin Williams to ask about this not-drying and tacky condition of the paint surface on our deckThe response of the gentleman at the store was, "They put way too much paint on the deckWith stain, it needs time to soak in and and that can take days or weeksUsually a second coat is not needed or if needed, should be applied much later." He said, "The paint probably needs to be removed and start all overWe have a product to do that." When we asked about putting our deck furniture back on the deck, his response was an immediate, DO NOT DO THAT! The furniture could adhere to the deck and may not be

Letter submitted to College Works on July 5th, 2016:
"We are contacting you to convey our dissatisfaction with the service we have received from College Works Painting
We were initially solicited door-to-door by Max *** in May of We were impressed by his enthusiasm & promise to do a detailed job of touching up our houseWe signed an $contract that included a power-washing, scraping, sanding, priming, caulking, paint chip removal & a year guarantee
Completed:
• The lower level of the house received a power-washing & lead inspection
• Bad areas were scraped & given a single coat of Duration
• A District Manager came out to inspect the work as it was being completed
• We were encouraged by Max to register for our year guarantee
• We paid the balance due under the promise that walk-thru items would be finished the next dayWe noted dissatisfaction regarding the lack of primer stated in the contract
• We gave Max a good reference &

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below
I do not agree on what you said For sure refunding the deposit is the way you tried to close the issueI will never encash since I do not see anything wrong I did. Your below response is too narrow minded "As you may be aware, the College Works employee who you were working with, i.ethe individual provided you with the estimate and was going to oversee the work, is no longer with College WorksUnfortunately, in this very rare circumstance, we simply do not have anyone else available to oversee the production of your jobAgain, we are truly sorry."I have called College Works for painting and not that individualshe was an employee right? If your employee is no longer working for you how does that matter to my work for which you had already taken deposit etc? She was good and also every time she was consulting her manager before taking any decisions Also he was taking pictures from phone and sending to her manager when doing estimates so I do not see any fault of herAlso other two contractors figure is almost the same Lets discuss the alternatives here Can you do one coat for the same price I would like to go-ahead with that You can strike out two coat from the contractI remember that was said as reason for the estimate too less.I cannot just sit without painting this year please. I do not see any fault of mine - Agreed for whatever conditions in contract - paid whatever deposit money you have asked to pay (on time ) - Waited for month and then followed up.

*** ***

As you can see in the contract that coats was agreed uponOnly one coat of paint was put on the houseI have asked several times and was told by the Vice President over a phone call that his crews would return and finish the job if I recanted my complaints online

We would like the opportunity to continue working with Mr. [redacted] to remedy
his complaint. And although we disagree on several facts/points, we believe we
can correct each of the issues for which Mr. [redacted] has submitted a

Our understanding is that Mr. [redacted] is in effect asking for $6,500; and

This is not a kids game where you give estimate then sign the contract and take initial deposit.  Later after couple of months you just say you cannot do.  Your guys were here and have been given inital walkthrough and then gave estimate inperson. What is that you assure about the estimates you provide ? and the all those guarantee you mentioned in your contract /websites etc ?. If on other hand if I do the same?? say  signing the contract and after couple of months I say NO..  you will make me pay penalty right?.  I will not accept the refund till this is resolved. Just sending refund does not mean you say bye bye. You need to tell me what is wrong?.  did I pay you less amount?.  did I pay you late?.  was my credit card transaction accepted?. Then what is wrong?. I had two other contractors giving similar quotes. Just because of your nonsense A++ ratings I went for it.  Now I need to know from you alternatives. Your district manager oliver is terrible. He does not even share your contact information attends/call during odd times!..

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (2000, 7, 2015/08/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
College Works has started the warranty work. We will not be able to determine complete satisfaction until the work is completed.

Hello, the contractors we would like to bid the work are not CWP contractors, they are other painting contractors in the area, with whom we do not have a business relationship. As we do not agree that a full refund is warranted, this would allow us to determine what, if any, amount should be refunded. We would like to continue to work with Ms. [redacted] to reach an amicable resolution.   Respectfully, College Works Painting
