This letter is in response to the complaint # [redacted] submitted by [redacted]. By way of background, Defenders, Inc.  DBA Protect Your Home is an Indiana corporation that specializes in selling residential alarm systems. We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT.   On August 23, 2017 Ms. [redacted] contacted Defenders Protect Your Home to set security services with ADT Monitoring System. After review of the sales call, the consumer nor the sales agent had a discussion on cameras. Ms. [redacted] was offered the Cellular Back-Up Link with monthly charges at $48.99.   On August 24, 2017 Ms. [redacted] installation took place. The Security Advisor installed these following items: 3 shock Detectors 2 DSC- keychain remote 1 keypad However, if looking for cameras the consumer will have to contact ADT Corporate at 1-800-369-0996. Our records indicate that ADT has fully purchased this account as of August 30, 2017. The Visa Gift Card will be arriving in 17-21 business days in an envelope from MPELL Solutions.  Sincerely, DeUndre E[redacted]Customer Loyalty Representative Protect Your Home ADT Authorized Premier Provider E: [email protected]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I was going to wait to install the ADT system until I had new windows.  I was told by salesman Christina [redacted] that ADT can come out with out any charge to remove and replace the window sensors.  With that information I went a[redacted] and purchased the ADT.  Worst mistake I made.  They bait and switch and then I called to have the windows scheduled to be done and I called ADT and they told me that it would cost !!0.00 to come out.  To remove the sensor with a knife and they would come out and replace them.  I called to check on this and talk with a supervisor and they told me they could only replace them for 3 months and then after that the company that does the sensor is not their company and they have no control over them.  I do not remember ADT telling me they contracted out their work.  I want to let anyone else know to get everything in writing from this company.  They lie and are not truthful at all.  Everything I was told always ended up being a misunderstanding and always on my part.  I know I am old but I think I get some things correct.  I felt very taken. I am wanting in writing the cost to get out of this service as I do not wish to do business with a company that lies constantly, does not have good sales  people and holds nothing to their word.  I want this in writing.

This letter is in response to the complaint no. [redacted] regarding [redacted]. By way of background, Defenders, Inc.  DBA Protect Your Home is an Indiana corporation that specializes in selling residential alarm systems. We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then usually purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT   In summary, Ms. [redacted] states that she would like her monitoring charges refunded including the installation fee. Her request for these refunds is a result of there being no contract on file.   I submitted a refund request for the installation fee in the amount of $104.94. A second refund request was placed for $258.43. I came to that total because Defenders collected $195.93 and ADT transferred us $62.05 from previous payments she made. This will be an entire refund of any payment that Defenders has on file for Ms. [redacted]. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.     Sincerely,     Crystal F[redacted] Customer Loyalty Representative Protect Your Home ADT Authorized Premier Provider E: [email protected]

Dear Ms. [redacted], This letter is in response to the complaint # [redacted] by [redacted]. We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells and installs ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT.   Ms. [redacted] is requesting billing statements to stop since her account is cancelled due to alleged misinformation she received from installer.   Our records reflect Ms. [redacted] contacted our office to inquire on service on May 26, 2016 due to recent ad she received. The flyer she received offered 15 pre-wired/7 wireless Sensor Package Offer for $27.99 for the life of their contract (do not include Quality Service Plan), PLUS a $100 visa gift card for signing up with Protect Your Home AND a second key fob. During the sales call it does advise there needs to be active/ or compatible landline provider.   Our records reflect that she opted to upgrade to pulse package at the monthly rate of $52.99. Ms. [redacted] did speak to our customer service department alleging that our installer manager promised her $27.99 with the cell phone package.  Our customer service agent did contact the manager in regards to the account and he advised he never offered this incentive.  Ms. [redacted] did call back and spoke to our customer service department on June 6, 2016 expressing her dissatisfaction with installation due to her feeling she was deceived on installation. Our escalation representative did contact Ms. [redacted] on June 8th regarding her complaint offered a resolution and she declined. We did come remove the system June 13, 2016. Our records reflect she received her refund of $49.00 on June 17th and the 12.42 was refunded on July 22, 2016.   Unfortunately we are unable to validate what was discussed in the home however we have forward the complaint to the field to address internally. We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration that Ms. [redacted] may have experienced and we appreciate the opportunity to address her concerns and reach a resolution.   Sincerely,   Ana D[redacted] Customer Loyalty Representative Protect Your Home

We have been an ADT authorized dealer since 1998 that sells andinstalls ADT monitored security systems. Once the security system is installed, the contract is then purchased, billed, serviced and maintained by ADT.  We have researched and locatedMs. [redacted]’s account.  Unfortunately,we cannot authorize the request to be released from the 3-year security alarmsystem contract and termination fees waived. This decision is based on the factthat, although a break-in occurred 01/08/14 at your residence, the alarm workedeffectively, in that the system was triggered, not placed on test during thebreak-in occurrence. The system was placed on test for one hour on 1/9/14. Anappointment was set with ADT Corporate for a technician to come to the home on1/8/14 because of the break-in, to place a door sensor back on a door frame, but the door frame was not yet repaired, and the account was noted ADT wouldget a return call when the door frame was repaired. During the month of April,ADT Monitoring received trouble signals from the system, contacted you directlyand asked if you would like the police dispatched, in which it is recorded yourequested they be dispatched. This proves the system was sending signals totheir monitoring center. Unfortunately, the monthly monitoring was not paid ina timely manner, leading to the cancellation of monitoring in October 2014 andthe account has been sent to our Collections team. Please keep in mind, theaccount has not been sent to an outside Collection agency, it is still with ourinside collections team, which you will have to contact to resolve, at1-800-381-1156.                   Dear Ms. [redacted], This letter is in response to the complaint no. [redacted] submitted by [redacted]. In summary, Ms. [redacted] states that she contacted ADT in regards to a monitored alarm system but was set up through Protect Your Home instead. She states that she discussed a monitoring rate of $27.99, but the technician installed her at $48.99 for the cellular service. She is not satisfied with the cancellation process although she did not sign any paperwork. She would like the equipment removed and have her money returned. She also states that this should be considered false advertisement because she called ADT and got Protect Your Home instead.   Ms. [redacted] contacted Protect Your Home on a marketing creative generated by Protect Your Home DF-PS-3RD-1216-V1. This advertisement does state Protect Your Home as the Authorized Premier Provider for ADT. We meet all compliance standards set by ADT. The advertisement promotes a monitoring rate for $27.99, a $100 Visa gift card, and a basic equipment package valued at $850. There are other rate plans available depending on how the service is monitored.   At the installation on February 7th, the technician connected the service via cellular uplink. Without a landline, the service needs to be connected through a cellular connection. The rate for this service is $48.99. Ms. [redacted] is correct that no paperwork was signed that day, but signals were ran to ADT. Since signals were ran, ADT saw the system as active and functional. ADT requires a written notice of cancellation form in order to process the cancellation. When Ms. [redacted] contacted Protect Your Home to cancel, she was advised of these steps in which she followed. The account was cancelled February 10, 2017 and the equipment was removed on February 13, 2017. Since she cancelled, she will receive all of her funds back. I apologize if she was inconvenienced during this process, but I appreciate the opportunity to address her concerns and make sure her account was taken care of. Acknowledgement of Resolution: In regards to Complaint #[redacted], we have carefully reviewed the matter and bring forth the following recommendations. Owner of complaint under “express consent,” voluntarily provided contract signature. Their voluntary actions bind them to a “financial” duty relative to length of contract. Owner of complaint was provided access to the terms and conditions of the 36 month contract.  Failing to comply within contract’s three day opt-out period, contract holds as irrevocable (w/limited relief) and enforceable. I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
First of all I never received the information packet that they stated had the phone number and referral number to be called. Our installer did not mention anything in regards to referring someone to the company and with a successful install receive a check. Also, I have received my invoice which stated that it was on an automatic payment system and we told our installer we wanted an invoice so we could pay it that way. We do not feel comfortable with the company being able to charge our credit card each month. Another matter is yes we were charged for additional equipment, but what they forgot to mention was we were overcharged! The installer added incorrectly and supposively Tim from there company credited the overage, but it has not posted to our credit card account. That was weeks ago!! The only paperwork we received was via email and that had nothing pertaining to the referral money. I have spent numerous hours of my time talking to people at there company and getting different answers every time. At this time I feel that we should not have to pay for the extra equipment for our inconvenience. I will not recommend there company to anyone!!! I regret even doing business with them. If it was not for the contract of 3 years I would be using another security company!! Also, supervisor James was very rude on the phone! I do not appreciate being huffed at or asking me if I could just eat the overcharge on my credit card! That is just bad business. The charges for the equipment were $229 + $99 which equals $334.64 not $354.64 which was what was charged on my credit card. I do not understand how no one from there company except for Tim could figure that one out. It's just basic math! Yes, I am very irritated with Protect Your Home!! Protect Your Home is so unprofessional and do not put there customers first. I have so many other complaints, but again this is taking up more of my valuable time. One last thing, my installer and my father in law's installer are not on the same page. His installer left an information packet and mine didn't. His installer informed him of the referral program and mine didn't. It would better business if all the installers did the same thing!! Just seems like they do whatever is easiest for them.
