Discount Engine Exchange Reviews (72)

Customer's brother in law came in, went over all the details with him, and agreed to have work completed. We've been waiting a week for a response. Now that we have the go ahead to compete the job contracted to do, we will wrap this up shortly. Since the customer has stated, in person, that there is...

money problem, we will need the final payment in cash or cashier's check.

I took my truck in to get a used engine. Initial price was $2,100 with $1,000 down to start the work. They said I would have my truck I. 7-10 days. That has turned into 5 weeks. And every time I call to find out about my truck they add more fees to the original amount. I have now paid $4,000 dollars and still do t have my truck.

yes we have read the complaint...as we told the customer there is a restocking fee of $300 were willing to refund him the $700 of the $1000 deposit.. Engine was ready when we told the customer, vender shipped to out warehouse from out of state which is where we stock the engines, customer called before engine was supposed to be picked up and canceled order. all the customer has to do is bring in his credit card and we will do the refund Thank you[redacted]

HORRIBLE!!! They hook you with decent customer service and a great price to replace your engine. Once they have your vehicle, they take 3 times longer than they originally estimated, try to charge you for repairs they caused and turn into complete MONSTERS! The Owner is the worst and the employees are not much better. Total scam, save yourself the frustration and take it to any other repair shop!!!!

No that's not was said, Customer DECLINED valve cover gaskets on a 10 year old used engine (did not pay for new gaskets) Head gaskets were replaced at no cost to customer under warranty   when a head gasket set is purchased the valve cover gaskets that come in the set are...

generic, we used customers orig valve covers and explained after vehicle was up and running that either one of the valve covers was warped from heat and leaking or we recommended using a thicker gasket witch would have to be purchased separately from kit form.  Customer needs to pay for the cover gaskets and or another valve cover that's not warped.

customer had option to decline repair, insurance company wanted to fix and approved repair.   no repairs are completed without approval. all he had to do was decline.

customer brought vehicle to our facility in February of 2016, we where moving at a timely fashion of replacing the engine, customer then decided to do additional work resulting in over 3,500 dollars in repairs. customer did not have the money at the time and asked if he...

could make monthly payments. Discount engine agreed to the monthly payments but also told customer that vehicle would not be started with additional repairs until paid in full. after months of making payments customer paid of 98% of balance, his vehicle is next in line to be completed. Since the time it took for him to fulfill final balance other vehicles have come to our shop in need of engine repairs, setting his vehicle behind and not first priority, we have had the customers vehicle here since February and we have not charged him any storage fee's and have worked with the customer on the payment plan we agreed upon. customers vehicle is next in line to be completed, as I stated above the agreement was that he had to pay off balance first then we complete the vehicle repairs.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Message from this business is complete lies. I tried to get this engine for 17 days. [redacted] said he 2 days to get the engine in.  I was supposed to pick it up on Dec 19 but it was going to cost me to take off so the day before I called and asked if I could get the engine on Dec 26th. The engine was already supposed to be there and that is why I am filing a dispute. I t is funny how they can’t even keep their lies strait. The letter to the Revdex.com says the engine is coming from out of state, but the letter to [redacted] states the engine is already in. that is why I have filed a dispute I was off on the 26 and the engine was still not there so I was not able to pick it up.This contract should be void because they never followed through, and they have been nothing but dishonest. For 1 week I tried to get that engine lined up to pick up on the 26th calling every day. This was not a purchase yet because it was a completed transaction. The engine was never delivered, and this was only a deposit. At this point we are very scared to use a business like this because of how they have constantly lied. You cannot charge a person’s charge card $1000.00 and just hold their money for ransom. Please see the other documents I am sending. It shows the reputation of this business and how we are not the first or the last if nothing is done about how they run a business. This is a couple of many examples from the internet. Regards,[redacted]

Gave a false time line to do repairs.

After job was started then call to try and add additional work and money stating if you do not do them your warranty will be void. Continuous problems first day after car wars returned. Ax wasn't charged when returned and they want &150 to charge it . That was never mentioned at time of quoting job.

Overall horrible experience!

Its obvious he does not understand what warranty repair requires: Per warranty quid lines which he signed before work was performed and after work was complete,  Warranty is with a outside vender, we follow there requirements .WARRANTY STATES;OIL CHANGE RECIEPTS -  EVERY 3,000 MILES OR EVERY 3 MONTHS WICH EVER COMES FIRST.This customer could not produces what was needed for warranty repair because he could not follow warranty quid lines Furthermore this company went above and beyond for the customer and begged vender to repair issues at no cost to him, after a few attempts we got a approval to repair. So who's the bad guy here? Our vender will not pay for labor only tearing down engine and going through it and repairing what is needed. customer will be responsible for labor and fluids.I advise in the future this customer reed warranty guidelines and follow them or chances are there will be no coverage next time.Discount engine

This customer had his long term friend Bob Lara, who worked here only a short time(due to dishonesty to customers, he was let go), rebuild his transmission.  After Bob was let go and the customer's vehicle was left in disarray, the customer verbally agreed to have a used transmission installed....

Discount Engine did as instructed and upon attempt to test drive found it was the speed sensors that was causing the reverse issue. The speed sensors that were quoted had nothing to do with the transmission. As you did not authorized Discount Engine to make this repair before picking up your vehicle, we are unable to make the repair.Discount Engine allowed the customer to pick up his vehicle without payment as the customer only verbally approved the work he instructed us to complete.

I had a good chuckle reading Discount Engines responce which they made it sound like I have provided zero oil change reciepts. Here are the oil change reciepts also, oil change #1 was  performed by Discount Engines at the 500 mile check up at a cost of $90.00 labor. A strange niose that the mechanic technition could not identify where it was coming from was also documented at the 500 mile check up (6-17-2013 Invioce) even though they did not look into it further. At 3,000 mile oil change intervals an Engine with 14,000 miles is four oil changes which I have done. Even Discount Engines own Documentation (4-6-2015 Invoice) clearly states that the Timming chaing guides are broken which is clearly a defective parts/labor issue. With plastic debris in the oil pan it is only prudent to check the rest of the lower end for damage due to the loss of oil presure (documented also). I do not think that I am being unreasonable by wanting them to make it right and give me what I had payed them almost $6,500.00 to get in the first place, a reliable Engine that is going to last a long time . On April 9 2015 durring a call from Discount Engines the man that called stated that his name was [redacted] and he was the owner of the shop. Durring our conversation he offered a solution of removing and returning only the engine for the repairs under the guise of saving me on the labor ( I saw right through that one, and Void the remainder of my warrany thanks but no thanks). The truck was returned later that day on April 9 2015 so that they can not try to say that they did not authorise another shop doing the repairs. [redacted]'s  conversation with me where he was telling me about the engine only return option and that he is still argueing with the vendor to also cover the labor costs was also documented on the April 9 2015 invoice. To date I have identified three ways they have tried to get out of doing the repairs so far #1 require Nine oil changes (which my oil change tech laughed at), #2 piss me off enough to take it to a different shop and later claim they did not authorize the repairs as a reason to Void the warranty, and #3 offer the engine only return so they can claim they did not authorize the work to remove it and have a reason to Void the warranty. I have a better understanding of why people are complaining about this shop.

Regards,

Holly molly!! I never knew businesses like this one existed!!! STAY AWAY from this shop!! So unethical, dishonest, rudest, and worse LIARS ever! [redacted], owner/manager is a total jerk and loves to use his intimidating/ evil attitude to manipulate you. Don't fall for it! Just stay away from these crooks and you'll be safe! They are SUPER expensive and will not do anything on your car. I honestly don't know why they are still operating as a business.

Horrible experience! Cost more than quoted, took longer than promised and couldn't drive it off the lot when finished. Had to tow to another shop rather than deal with them any longer to just get my car on the road again.

Wish I had read reviews BEFORE I went there. After the fact, I Notice there are over 30 hidden bad reviews under (not recommended), and an "F": rating and more than 30 complaints and bad reviews from the Revdex.com.

I do NOT recommend anyone to ever take their car there.

After stopping by the shop without an appointment to pick up their engine and refusing to return later, the customer submitted a credit card dispute. By this time the agreed upon engine was already purchased and shipped to the Discount Engine shop. Customer never called Discount Engine back after a...

few attempts letting them know the engine was in. The engine has now been shipped back. Per the contract signed by the customer, Discount Engine has already processed a refund of $700 as there is a $300 restocking fee.

The truth of the matter is,  customer was quoted a price to install a remanufactured engine, at time of installation the tech noticed ac system was low on Freon, during repair we aloud customer to supply his own additional parts recommended, customer did verbally agree and to send...

injectors out to have serviced (after sublet co. already serviced them he changed his mind and said no  $250 service (in which we never charged this customer for, but he received them anyway) during pick up of vehicle, we did a ac evacuate and charge for free..as he complained.  few days later customer called and said there was a oil leak and demanded a free tow back to facility, as we explained to him he would have to get it it back and we could look at the car and address or even determine if it was under warranty or if there was some other issue he had going on.. Not only did he get free injector service he received a free ac evacuate and charge with Freon .. and now he wants free towing...customer needs to bring car in and we would be happy to look at the leak and repair if under warranty.

please read contract signed by buyer, we uphold tax laws, customer was charged tax. customer did not file a5000 form at time of purchase. credit of $51.00, explained to customer he does not understand state requirements in regards to sales tax.

On 10/8/14, [redacted] checked his vehicle with the mechanic and drove it out of Discount Engine's lot with no issues.  He called us shortly after with some possible concerns. Discount Engine instructed him to bring back his S10.  [redacted] never brought it in or called back.  Now, a month...

later, this is the first we are hearing from him. If there are any issues with any of the parts we installed, these are all covered by the warranty.  [redacted] would only need to bring his vehicle in as instructed a month ago.If there was an oil leak at the time the vehicle left there would have been smoke and misfiring. This was not the case. Our mechanics have no reason to be in or to place any thing in the bed of the truck. If the vehicle came back to us in that condition, we would have cleaned it up regardless of why it was there. As for the vehicle taking extra long.  We had the engine completed on 9/22/14.  From 9/22/14 to 10/8/14 [redacted] authorized us to fix other pre-existing items wrong with the vehicle. The long block we originally gave an estimate and time frame on was completed and in working condition by that point. If [redacted], would like us to warranty any of the parts Discount Engine put in his vehicle we would be happy to fix these items.
