EZ Movers, Inc. Reviews (107)

The very first estimate sent via email, prior to booking, had one total with full value protection and another total with limited liability. That same email contained information on movinginsurance.com as an alternative coverage option. The confirmation letter sent via email after booking, which you signed and returned, also had one estimated total with full value protection, another total with limited liability, and information on alternative coverage options. On the day of the move, the binding estimate of charges written up by the foreman had 2 estimated totals with and without full value protection. On the bill of lading, you signed waiving the full value protection option, and selecting the limited liability coverage. The claim submitted was executed according the contractual agreement. This claim has since been concluded and our position on the matter is final.

I apologize for Mr. [redacted] negative experience with EZ Movers. We make every attempt to include all charges in the estimates we provide our clients and inform them of any potential additional charges. We sent Mr. [redacted] a confirmation letter via email (approximately 20 days prior to the move date) which...

was signed and returned. This document includes all terms and conditions, as well as potential accessorial charges. Mr. [redacted] signed acknowledging, "All locations outside of the Chicagoland area must have trailer access to avoid additional shuttle charge. - Shuttle fee is $75.00 per 100 cubic feet of goods plus the truck rental fee. (to be determined at time of move". We reviewed the details for His previous move, in which he claims the same size truck delivered to the PA location without charge; we found the truck that delivered him previously was a 26 ft. straight truck, the truck that came this time around was a 53 foot semi-tractor trailer. Unfortunately, we cannot accurately ascertain the access in most cases until we arrive to the location and sometimes we find that a shuttle service is required. At no time do we "hold hostage" the contents of the shipment. Mr. [redacted] was given the option of having the delivery made to a public storage location with semi access to avoid paying the shuttle fee, which he refused. The only alternative option, since he refused to pay the shuttle service fee and also refused to accept delivery to a more accessible location, was to then deliver his goods to a public storage facility of our choosing which Mr. [redacted] also refused and stated that he would not pay the remaining balance for services already rendered. We regret the circumstances, however, they were unavoidable in this case. Mr. [redacted] filed a claim which was reviewed and addressed and according to the terms and conditions within the bill of lading and contractual agreement. If he would like his claim reassessed, he's more than welcome to provide receipts of purchase for the items in questions showing their weights to be greater than the weights according to the promover military weights and measures we go by. At this time, Mr. [redacted] has received a compensation offer of $111.00 which is our current position on this matter.

Ms. [redacted],
You will find a few pages attached here. The first two are address late arrival. I apologize but customer service issues and damage claims are handled separately. There is a set amount according to our tariff/bill of...

lading that we offer regarding late arrival. (pages 1 & 2 of the attachment). If you would like to accept, you may sign and return the release to me via email or fax.

Secondly, Natalia denied your damage/loss claim because she was no notes were made on the inventory indicating loss or damage. There was nothing extra left behind in the warehouse, and you packed all of your boxes. The pickup foreman actually made a note that states the following:
"customer refused additional packing"
And all items on the inventory are labeled 'PBO' or 'Packed by Owner'.
None of these items you mentioned as missing were specifically itemized on the bill of lading and we have no way to verify what was transported. Our records indicate anything picked up, was delivered AND was in good condition.
Sincerely,

we had a very positive experience with EZ Movers when my dad moved out of his house in November. The guys worked very hard and got everything packed, loaded, and delivered in less than the estimated time we were given. they treated all of our furniture with respect as well as our family. I was truly impressed by the effort of all the guys!

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/01/17) */
Ms. [redacted] & Ms. [redacted],
I would like to request that this case be closed as invalid.
The move under job no. XXXXXXX was completed on [redacted] 2013. Please see an attached release of liability where Ms. [redacted] understood "the...

foreman has advised that there will be materials required in order to adequately protect my goods. I do not want these materials to be used and I agree to release E-Z Movers from any responsibility for the condition of the items listed below." and where she wrote in her own writing "No furniture protected with blankets as well as mirrors" and initialed and signed. (Please see attach 1). She also signed her Bill of lading acknowledging "Shipment was received in apparent good condition..." (Please see attach2). We did take one dresser to our workshop for repair. We had it sent over to Ms. [redacted]'s new home in Evanston, IL where the repairs and delivery were signed for and accepted(Please see attach3a & b). On December 16, 2013 we received a 'Presentation of Loss or Damage' form for the dresser (which was repaired to satisfaction), sofa, and coffee table (please see attach4). We denied the claim after assessment based on the above listed information (please see attach5). Ms. [redacted] moved after we moved her items. We cannot assume liability for items that were not handled by us. Please see further proof through photos that Ms. [redacted] sent in showing her furniture pictures inside of a home - there are windows and different colors on the wall unlike the storage facility we deliver to in Chicago (please see attach 6a & b).
We firmly maintain our stance in this denial based on the customer signing a release to deny using materials, signing the bill of lading with no mention of damages, and because she moved after we moved her items.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2014/01/28) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have been trying to resolve this issue since November, the company took over a month to respond to any and all request and correspondence. The repair of my vintage dresser was b incorrectly repaired and I didn't sign the paper saying it was. The person who was here to receive it did, I was unaware that he signed anything until the copy was sentto the Revdex.com. I just want the ccompany to so what's right and that is to take responsibility for its negligence, if you read the reviews you'll see that my accusations are justified.

Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2014/01/20) */
My apologies, but EZ Movers is not willing to accept liability given the previously mentioned documentation and timeline. We firmly maintain our stance.

I used EZ Movers a year ago August 1. I'm posting a year later because I still become very upset every time I think about my experience, and I want to prevent others from experiencing something similar.

When I setup the appointment, I was given a quote on the phone and told that I would pay after the move, at our new location. The price was pretty affordable, and I was late in scheduling, so I committed to using them over the phone. When the movers arrived at my apartment the day of the move, they immediately doubled the price, and made me immediately pay. When I contested the doubled cost, they packed up their things and began leaving. I had to be out of my apartment that day, so I paid up front. Throughout the entire day, the movers were argumentative. One actually pulled me aside and apologized for the others. Next, their truck already had two prior sets of furniture in it. My things were the last to be loaded. They didn't have enough room in their truck, so they loaded my dad's van and my car as much as they could. Later, when we arrived at my new apartment, my fiancé and I began to notice several crushed boxes and damaged wooden furniture. Literally, every piece of wooden furniture I owned was damaged. After the movers left, and I had things unpacked, I called the owner to tell him what happened. He was equally as combative as the movers were and only offered to fix my damaged furniture. He didn't address the fact that the movers began to leave when I refused to pay the doubled price or that they had to use my dad's van and my car to complete the move. The owner just argued with me about how they would go about fixing my furniture, whether I needed to send it to them or whether they would come to my new apartment. At that point, I wanted to cut my losses, get over the whole thing, and focus on moving forward. I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't such a traumatic experience.

The other people who were with me during my move, such as my parents and my fiancé, believe EZ Movers are scam artists because of the doubling in price, not having enough room in their truck to move all my items, and damaging my furniture. I don't think EZ Movers did anything illegal, but they were certainly dishonest in leading me to believe that the price would be cheaper and that they would have a truck available on my move date to transport all my items.
